The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH the vehicle slowed down and the head lights dimmed. The contact stated that many warning lights were illuminated but was not able to recall the exact ones. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was then told that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicles failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer where the owner was then told that the computer needed to be replaced due to the damage caused by the alternator. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 62,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while his wife was driving 55 MPH, the vehicle stalled and veered to the left; However, she was able to safely guide the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle would not start. The contact stated that his wife did not notice any warning lights. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence and later had it towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with needing the alternator and battery to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred and the vehicle became undrivable. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ALTERNATOR SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE THAT THE ALTERNATOR SAFETY COVERS IN THE MODEL YEAR 2012 VEHICLE BUT, THE RECALL WAS NOT EXTENDED TO THE MODEL YEAR 2011. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER, HOWEVER SHE WAS ABLE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT'S COMPANION OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS ON FIRE AND BURNT OUT COMPLETELY. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RIVER OAKS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (4807 KIRBY DR, HOUSTON, TX 77098) WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED....
