The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds in inclement weather, the check engine warning light illuminated and the message that FWD drive was deactivated message was displayed. The was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a filter canister needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and advised the contact the whenever the check engine warning light was illuminated, the FWD feature would deactivate as a standard procedure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The VIN was not available.
While driving vehicle, warning lights came on stating "Stop Safely Vehicle will shut off soon". There was no other indication of any issue with the vehicle. The engine then shut off in the middle of the road with no power steering or any other features. Safety was put at risk not being able to control vehicle while driving in the middle of the road. Vehicle restarted 10 minutes later with no issue. Warning light issue repeated itself a week later.
My name is [XXX] DL #[XXX], I live in Detroit Michigan 48219, About August 2022 I purchased a used 2018 Jeep Compass. About late November 2022 I was driving on the drive free way and the I got a quick dashboard reading High coolant Temperature and the vehicle started slowing down, I push the gas pedal and the car, accelerate it. I truly thought I did not have any radiator fluid in the radiator so I put the gas station and brought radiator fluid and put it into the vehicle. In December 2022 I was coming from basketball practice in the evening with a cold evening and I had the heat up in the ventilation of both up to high and I got to a stop sign the car * at the stop sign. From that point it had to be towed to a dealership Feldman Chevrolet in Livonia Michigan...
2 000 miles after each oil change, a quart of oil must be added
The torque converter is bad and when driving on the highway it stopped my car and caused it to stop luckily I was able to get off the freeway before wreck could happen
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the main control screen began to malfunction and was independently activating different apps, make phone calls, turn on the heated seats and sudden electrical failures. The contact stated that the low oil level warning light illuminated one and a half month after having an oil change performed. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle operated as needed. The failure persisted. The contact stated while idling at a red light, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle accelerated as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic was able to restart the vehicle. The manufacturer...
Engine light comes on with a warning saying "Stop soon, Vehicle may shut off". A few times that light does not come on but the vehicle applied brakes while driving (5mph) on the road. Felt as if it put the parking brake on by itself. Engine light is still on now constantly saying to pull over. Dealer checked it out and re-grounded some wires but issue is still happening.
CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED CAR LOST ALL POWER NO ACCELERATION / BRAKING / STEERING THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. NO NO. AS IT WAS HAPPENING
Over the past two days the engine on my 2018 Jeep Compass Trailhawk simply stopped and cut off as I was turning into intersections. Thankfully I was able to coast to the shoulder and put the Jeep into park to restart engine. This is such a dangerous issue, and I cannot even imagine it happening on a highway or merging lane going 65 mph. Scheduled an appointment for vehicle, and I noted that other Jeep Compass vehicles from 2018 had a recall due to cracked fuel pump issue, though it seems my particular VIN is not "part" of that recall. Maybe it needs to be. This is a very dangerous issue.
Did an oil change on 2018 jeep compass, within 500 miles I had to replace I’ve a quart of oil. When turning before, they car stalled and parking break engaged in the middle of the road. Had to put the car in neutral and start it. Once started the low oil light turned on and had lose of power. Have dealt with adding oil multiple times shortly after oil changes.
The auto start stop stopped working. My car overheated in May 2022 which I paid 900 dollars for repair. Also screen went out on Dec 2021. My car is in the shop now because it stopped on the freeway and the hot start/stop stops the car from moving.
Vehicles stalls, engine shuts off while driving in the middle of the road. Very scary and disconcerting. Has happened once every day in the last 3 days. Just as it stalls, a low oil pressure warning flashes and disappears almost immediately. Vehicle hasn’t been seen by any one yet.
2018 Jeep Compass is doing the same as the 2019&2020 models, flashing a coolant temp high notice on the dash then vehicle is shutting off while driving Incident occurred once at 70mph and again at 35mph
After being serviced by my vehicle’s dealership only a month earlier (and still well within the powertrain warranty), my vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off in the middle of the freeway during peak morning traffic. I narrowly escaped being hit by a semi-truck from behind and had to quickly pull over to the side of the freeway as safely as I could. I’ve taken my vehicle to several mechanics who could find nothing wrong with my vehicle, save the open recall on similar models (though not my VIN in particular, which I do believe to be an error) involving an issue with the powertrain and an electrical chip. This vehicle has been thoroughly maintained with regular service intervals, yet somehow will randomly stall and shut off when driving. It is dangerous and discouraging.
Vehicle warning lights for Service 4wd, ABS and the A! with arrow flashed on. The vehicle lost the ability to accelerate while turning at the stop light. Coasted to side of the road. Powered Vehicle off then back on. Stop/Start error message flashed on screen "start/stop unavailable Service Stop/Start system" Oil and coolant levels are good. Only error message remains is the stop/Start system.
All lights randomly flashed on dash then the vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic. This is the third time it has happened, and the dealership had claimed to have fixed it. Just had brand new batteries installed to ensure sufficient voltage, and it still happened. 32k miles.
The auxiliary battery has failed at least 3 times (2018) and been replaced, as well as the main battery. When this happens the car is dead in the water, even the SiriusXM Guardian controls on the rear view mirror do not respond leaving you in dangerous situations. You are unable to contact emergency services for a tow, or emergency vehicles. The dealership said it was faulty batteries but has had to replace them one more time after replacing the ones they say were faulty by manufacturer. The dealership wants additional money for tracing the issue but the car is just out from warranty by a few months. Prior to this, the dealership did not trace to find any shorts and the batteries were confirmed to be malfunctioning. There are no error codes found when this occurs. Dealership has confirmed MANY Jeep Compass have had the batteries replaced.
This Compass has been to North Point Jeep in Winston Salem, NC, 3 times for engine problems. The car overheats and then turns completely off after going 60 mph. We have complained but the dealership denies that there is an issue and these cars are "good". The car is currently at the dealership in repair and has been for the last month. Please make them accountable as we have spent a lot of money and time on this car that only has 40,000 miles. Please advise.
I will be driving and suddenly the car stops. The parking break comes on and the car won't start. Takes awhile to get it restarted. It seems dangerous and as I've googled seems like a problem all across the board not just me.
Since taking over ownership in 2020 of a 2018 SUV that currently has only 61,000 miles I've had electrical issues with the auto start/stop warning light coming on/off intermittently. I was told by that make and model dealership that that happens for several reasons and was of no large concern. I've had the 1 electrical recall 'reprogrammed', but then my car wouldn't start on Thanksgiving. Replaced the main battery then took it back to dealership, $180 later was told the steering gear rack needs replacing. I've heard a clunking sound in the steering for about 2-3 weeks. How with so few miles is that possible? After replacing battery they also said all old codes should've cleared from system and hadn't so they cleared them. I've also noted multiple times that the coolant seems to run on the low side periodically. I've already had warranty replace the washer fluid resevoir next...
While driving, car began to overheat. I have recently completed an oil change where all my fluids are topped off to ensure proper functionality. Upon inspection, the coolant is completely empty and the car continues to use up coolant as it is used. Car becomes overheated within minutes of driving. When turning on the car occasionally, the dashboard flashes and does not work.
I was driving my daughter to school going 25-30 miles per hour and the car engine shut off as we were moving on the road. I didn’t realize it was off until I couldn’t move the steering wheel. The car stopped in the middle of the road disrupting traffic. The lights on the dashboard were on but the engine wouldn’t start. The dashboard message said “place the car on Parking, press the break and push the button to turn on the car”. I attempted several times to place the car in Parking but it wouldn’t recognize the shift. Finally after several harsh attempts of going from Drive to Parking on the shift, the lights went off and the car recognized being on Parking. I was able to turn the car back on and drove it to the dealer. This is the second time that the car shuts off, the first...
My car will flash a "Coolant Temperature Too High" message, vehicle shuts itself down. There is no way it’s too hot and it is really unsafe for my car to just shut down.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, while driving at various speeds, the transmission temperature warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that when the gear shifter was shifted into reverse(R) or drive(D), the vehicle was jerking. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer on three different occasions; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Car is stopping while driving at highway speed (second time in a little over a month). Car was taken to Spartanburg dodge after first incident. They claimed it was due to unknown factor and then claimed it was low on oil, which was not true as there was no warning or low oil warning. this car belongs to my daughter and the dealerships think that women are not knowledgeable enough to know of the oil situation. On public forums, there are many sites telling of exact problem and the dealerships will not take responsibility for the situation.
Stalled in the middle of traffic and would not switch out of gears almost was rear ended. Acceleration delayed and jerks when accelerating going up hill. Check engine light comes on if idling too long. Constant need for oil changes and burning smell of oil leak. Smoke coming from hood due to oil leak. Misfires and if idle temperature of coolant and transmission increases.
The vehicle would not go into gears engine stalled in the middle of road. the engine cut off after it slowed and wouldn't go down. consumes a lot of oil struts tips when turning and bounce when going uphills picked up speed on its on when the highway without pressing on gas pedal
My car uses too much oil and my car keeps shutting off after 3000 miles when I should be getting 5-6000 to an oil change. My engine literally ran out of oil in about 6 weeks and my mechanics stated that it must be a recall issue. I feel like this is a threat to engine safety.
My car has been shutting off, at low speeds and high speeds the auto on/off will go on even after I turn it off
Jeep stalls while driving. Brake pedal becomes stiff and car will not start. Happens in the middle of the highway sometimes. It also will do this when I come to a complete stop. I have caused traffic interference and almost caused an accident. Sometimes I am able to get it started again after 10-15 minutes, sometimes I need to call a tow truck. The dealership said that it was the batteries in my key fab so they replaced them and it continued to happen. When researching online, I see that a lot of people have this issue and Chrysler has not responded to anyone.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID "SERVICE ENGINE", THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND SHORTLY AFTER RESTARTED ON IT'S OWN. WHEN IT RESTARTED IT DID NOT ALLOW ME TO REACH THE PREVIOUS SPEED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO RESTART THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. IT DID FINALLY LET ME REACH A DECENT SPEED. I PARKED THE CAR AND THEN LATER STARTED THE CAR, IT APPEARED TO BE NORMAL, THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED AGAIN. AT HOME I WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THIS WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE CLOSE BEHIND ME THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT.
OUTRAGIOUS OIL CONSUMPTION, CAR SHUTS DOWN OR SLOWS DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY WHILE DRIVING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW READS CODE P1DD2, IVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 1.5 YRS. AND IVE HAD TO CHANGE OIL ABOUT 8 TIMES AND CARRY EXTRA OIL WITH ME IN CASE IT ACTS UP OR NEEDS IT. NOW CAR WONT GO OVER 30 MPH AND SPITS AND SPUTTERS. I JUST GOT AN OIL CHANGE DONE! LITERALLY 2 DAYS AGO. PLUS I JUST HAD TO REPLACE SWAY BAR LINKS AND BOTH FRONT TIRES DUE TO ACCESSIVE WEAR. THIS VEHICLE DOESNT EVEN HAVE 35,000 MILES ON IT. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO REPLACE THOSE THINGS SO SOON. PLEASE HELP!
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The contact arrived on the scene and added two quarts of oil to the engine. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the dealer performed an oil change; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 61,938.
The week after I purchased it, the warning for my eco fuel came on and then service engine light. I was traveling at 45 mph and it instructed me to pull safely to the side of the road. Before I could do so, the car seized and jerked to a halt at a slowing speed of 10pm. The car had to be towed, “reset”. Since then I get the same alerts, the car will not accelerate when this happens and then slowly declines and shut down.
Oil was changed last year and within 48 hours all leaked out, no issue found with oil filter such as torn gasket, double gasket, twisted gasket, etc. Refilled and installed new filter and randomly there would be oil spots. Next 2 oil changes we ran into the same issue with slow leaks, random leaks, etc. with no reason why. This last time, the technician stated that it has been seen frequently on Jeep Compass vehicles in their shop. In researching we found there is a known issue where the oil cooler sheet metal is too thin and it easily warps which prevents a solid seal on the oil filter causing leaks. When I called our local dealership the service manager agreed and said they have the new replacement part in stock and are frequently changing them due to this issue. I believe this should be a recall as there is...
Vehicle seems to be consuming oil at a rapid pace. The vehicle does not leak oilt. I had to add over two quarts of oil on 8/16. This has happened between the last time I got the oil changed and the next scheduled oil change. The vehicle just suddenly stalled in traffic while driving with not warning. This has happened multiple times since we have owned it. No low oil notification alert. It is going in for service this evening. The dealer says there is not a recall on this VIN yet I am reading about a recall for this same oil consumption issue that we are having.
Engine is consuming oil at an alarming rate. Not time for an oil change and have already had to add oil twice. Low oil pressure light comes on. No known leaks, engine is clean, no oil under hood. Based on other complaints this needs to be investigated!
The vehicle consumes oil at an alarming rate despite being fixed by dealership. The oil pressure light will come on and stall the vehicle WHILE driving, usually while turning. This will shut off the vehicle in the middle of roads.
I was driving my 2018 Jeep Compass in February 2022 and had received no warning of critically low oil pressure, then my car shut itself off in an intersection and the parking brake automatically engaged, then the critically low oil warning came on. I got an oil change and they said it wasn't leaking oil. In mid-July the same issue occurred again, my car shut itself off while I was driving and engaged the parking break and I got a critically low oil warning. Had it towed to a shop and they told me I was down 4 quarts of oil even though I should not have needed another oil change for another 3,000 miles. Carfax states campain number W20, which addresses this issue but it does not appear to have ever been addressed. Had I been driving on the highway and my car turned off and engaged the parking...
After leaving the freeway, my vehicle completely shut itself down without warning while in traffic. (The "Auto Off" feature was off, so that my car wouldn't shut off at a light.) The dash completely turned off as well as the console. When I attempted to restart it, 4WD service not available and a coolant over temp warning was displayed and showed the coolant temp was all the way at it's hottest. Even though the entire drive up to this point showed the vehicle was running at it's normal temperature. After a minute or 2, the vehicle finally started, after blocking traffic the entire time. Now the temperature was showing normal but now the "Auto Off" was disabled was showing on the dashboard. I pulled into a gas station and the vehicle did the same thing again. I opened the hood to find that nothing seemed out of the ordinary and...
There are so many issues I hope I can get it to fit. I love my jeep but after reading all these problems. Having all of them but showing no recalls. I am frustrated. My car is unsafe. It has left me stranded time and time again. And all I do is put money in it. Something needs to be done about it. 1. Since week 5 of owning my 2018 compass I have been told the alignment is terrible. I have replaced tires over 10 times due to wearing down on the inside before reaching 20k miles. 2. Massive oil consumption. I have a constant oil burning smell inside my vehicle when the ac is on and off. Oil is visible under the hood. My car is very well maintained. Checked daily because it goes so fast. 3. The engine runs so hot you can feel it inside at...
As I was driving my car and was stopped at a red left and when the green light came on my car shut down all of a sudden. My emergency brake turned on and it was not allowing me to turn on my car or drive it. This caused my safety to be jeopardizes because I was on the road and had no warning it was going to turn off on me. Then my engine light went on and i had to have it towed to the nearest mechanic and when they checked the car had 4 codes P0123 P0222 P2111 and U0420. All indicated that it was the Throttle. When my regular mechanic finally checked it he said the Throttle was broken and needed to be replaced. I never had any warning or had my car experience any of this prior to this incident. This car is only 4...
My Jeep burns through oil very fast. My oil change sticker will stay I do not need an oil change for 2,000 more miles but my car will shut off WHILE driving and then be hesitant to restart. My engine light will then turn on. I will go to get an oil change and there will be nothing left. I will get an oil change and then everything will be fine again for the most part. There is no recall on my VIN but there needs to be. It is incredibly unsafe because my car has shut off on me while driving and then will not start until after a few attempts.
I believe I received a faulty vehicle from Brooklyn Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. Located at 2286 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234. I received this vehicle in October 2021 with a dead battery and a faulty engine. I returned the vehicle, and services claimed to fix all the issues. The next day my car completely shuts down on the highway in the middle of traffic nearly causing an accident. I immediately contacted Jeep to let them know my concerns. Since, the car has completely shut down in the middle of me driving multiple times. This is creating a hazardous environment for myself and others. I returned the car to Jeep and told them I am no longer comfortable driving this vehicle especially since I got it within reasonable mileage (18K). I was told that if I wanted to give the vehicle back I would have to pay $10,000 to do so....
I was riding down the road, and my “service transmission” code came on, it started stalling in the middle of the road and shutting off with my kids in the vehicle. It was sent to a transmission shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission ** I eventually checked my oil and realized it was extremely low so I put oil in it, the next day the service transmission light went off and the car ran great. This morning 5/11/12 the same exact thing has started happening again without a “low oil” warning from my car, I had an oil change not even a month ago and I don’t have a leak. My motor is burning oil at a quart per 500 miles with no explanation and each time it gets low my check engine light comes on, my service transmission light comes on, and it starts shutting...
The car stalls when slowing down to approach stop signs and intersections, and the power steering is lost causing a dangerous situation. One instance it stalled while driving on a highway at 55 mph which was frightening! Luckily I was able to glide off to the shoulder without causing an accident. The start/stop notification showed on my dash, advising me to restart the vehicle. I had to put the gear back into park and try to restart. It took a couple of tries to restart the vehicle.
I was driving my Compass in traffic when it died and wouldnt start for about 60 secs and then it started right up no issues. The next day they very same thing happened- No lights or anything the vehicle died in the middle of traffic. I could have been injured or someone else could have been injured due to the sudden stops. I did take the vehicle to the dealership and I have been informed that the engine is defective and unsafe to drive as this will continue. I have opted to have a new engine installed in the vehicle. FCA did not express any concern for the safety of the consumers of these vehicles.
My car burns a quart of oil every 500 miles, it doesn’t warn me when it’s low on oil. Only when it’s bone dry, and when its low on oil it throws random engine codes that make the car start stalling. I’ve been driving down the interstate in the fast lane and my car just shut completely off with no check engine light on, no low oil warning, no warning at all. My breaks don’t work when my car shuts off, so on the interstate doing 70 isn’t an option for me anymore. I fear that my children will be in my car, and I’ll get plowed from behind because my car randomly shuts off!! This car shouldn’t be allowed to be sold.
My car has 58,000 miles on it, I purchased it with 20,000 certified pre owned. I have noticed engine noises since around 40,000 miles. I was driving down the road a week ago and the Jeep Compass sport 2018 had shut completely off on me while driving and I never had any warning light. After getting the car to start about 2 minutes later my control screen gave me a low oil pressure message. I immediately took it for an oil change, I was still not due for. I still had at least 1,000 miles on my oil. I asked them if it was low and it was almost empty. I also had the sway bar links replaced already and my car still shakes, it feels to me, like the control arm. The dealership has me scheduled 2 weeks out and hasn’t offered me a rental, this engine issue is...
