My vehicle has a documented excessive oil‑consumption defect. After a 1,000‑mile oil‑consumption test performed by a Hyundai dealership, the engine was found to have consumed 2.8 quarts of oil, which is far above normal and poses a safety risk. The dealer referenced TSB 23‑EM‑008H and recommended a chamber cleaning but could not guarantee it would resolve the issue. Hyundai Motor America declined to cover the repair and refused to escalate my case. This level of oil consumption is consistent with known Theta II engine defects that have led to engine seizure, stalling, and fire in other vehicles. I am reporting this as a safety concern due to the risk of sudden engine failure while driving.
Airbags did not deploy no indicator light came on before nor after I was struck from my driver side front area and yes it is available for inspection upon request. My safety along with my sisters safety was put at risk due to the negligence and cheapness of the dealership I purchased the car from also from there misleading information and improper inspection before selling me the car Car has not been reproduced or confirmed The car was inspected by a third party appraisal company for damages amounts There were no lights on at all before the accident and I am pretty certain that the dealership cleaared the codes before selling me the car
e vehicle is burning approximately 2 quarts of oil every month with no external leaks. This indicates severe internal oil consumption, which is a known defect in Hyundai’s Theta II 2.4 GDI engines. I discovered oil inside the VVT solenoid electrical connector and on other wiring, which shows oil is traveling through the engine harness. This causes hesitation, rough running, and the risk of sudden engine power loss. The vehicle feels unsafe to drive because the oil level drops quickly, and the engine could seize or stall while driving. Hyundai vehicles of this generation have a history of excessive oil consumption, piston ring failures, and engine fires, and I believe my vehicle is experiencing the same defect. This is a serious safety concern.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine in my 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport is defective. Oil pressure failed testing, oil contamination was found on the oil pressure sensor and connector, and the vehicle has experienced excessive oil issues. The engine is still in my possession and available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle has gone into limp mode on the highway, which caused a sudden loss of power and created a dangerous situation in traffic. The car also shakes, misfires, and loses power unexpectedly, which could lead to stalling or loss of control at highway speeds. I do not feel safe driving the car. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Multiple Hyundai dealerships have inspected the car. One confirmed...
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR THE GAS ENGINE SHUT OFF AND THE ELECTRIC ENGINE LOST POWER, WERE ABLE TO COAST A FEW MILES UNDER LOW POWER UNDER ELECTRIC ENGINE AND THEN ENGINE SHUTDOWN COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT START, HAD CAR TOLLED TO NEAREST MECHANIC, HE CONFIRMED ENINGE DAMAGED BY ROD BEARING FAILURE, HE TRIED TO GET A NEW ENGINE TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED ONE AND HYUNDAI TOLD HIM THEY COULD NOT SELL HIM AND ENGINE
I am leasing a 2017 Hyundai Sonata from Car City in Michigan. In May 2025, the vehicle received a brand-new engine replacement due to previous problems. I picked the car up on [XXX], and on the same day, the vehicle began malfunctioning. It would not accelerate properly, jerked and stalled, and multiple warning lights — including the check engine light — came on immediately. This made the car unsafe to drive. I contacted the dealer, but they told me to wait until Monday to get it looked at, leaving me with a dangerous and unreliable car. The vehicle had already been in the shop for over two months for the engine issue, and I had only driven it for six months beforehand. I believe the repair or replacement engine is defective or was not properly installed. This creates a serious safety hazard. A car that stalls while driving puts everyone...
The engine in my 2017 Hyundai Sonata has been burning excessive amounts of engine oil over an extended period. The issue started approximately 10,000 miles ago but has worsened recently, requiring frequent oil top-offs between regular oil changes. The oil consumption is abnormal and not consistent with normal wear. This excessive oil burning poses a potential safety risk, including possible engine failure, stalling, or fire hazard due to low oil levels if not monitored carefully. The vehicle has not yet experienced a complete failure but the risk concerns me. The problem has been observed consistently during normal driving conditions. I have not yet had an official inspection or oil consumption test performed by a dealer, but I intend to request one. There have been no warning lights related to the oil burning issue, but the oil level drops rapidly and noticeably.
Constant losing oil, constant changing of spark plugs, car shaking, can't pick up speed
All documents are attached as it is many separate incidents that ended knock from motor and minutes later, a piston shooting through the engine block which is what made the car inoperable
The check engine light light is on now giving code p200a I was driving and the center console shut off and the engine died I had to pull over and start the car again it started but the check engine light light is on now for a p200a I’ve looked it up and everything I can find says there is a recall but my car isn’t in it so what can I do I don’t want to cause a fire or an accident because my car messed up o. Me
I have had many problems with my car since 1st day of purchase timing belt oilpans valve cover gasket burning excessive oil caliper brake hose last few events I have experienced my ABS light coming on in the car stop moving while am in traffic very dangerous I work for the hospice reserve one day while driving the car started shaking compulsive and the check engine light came on I was informed oil was leaking onto my spark plug and engine was going out I experienced extreme hot air inside the car coming out vents back firing etc my warranty in finical company seems to be ripping me off more concerned about money I have reported all these problems to them the past 13-14 months i was suppose to hear back from lisa warranty about this problem this past week no contact I reached out to Hyundai Corporation after visiting...
I have to add a quart of oil to car a day tul the motor blew
The car is burning through oil at an excecated rate. This is a well-known issue with this make and model. The dealer said they fixed the problem, and they did not. This engine needs to be replaced. It was inspected by a mechanic not affiliated with Hyundai. Hyundai has refused to replace the engine. This should be covered by the 15 year/ 150,00 engine warranty. This engine could seize up at any time. It is a hazard to be driving. The driver is an 80-year woman. She needs help.
I was driving the vehicle and it of no where the hybrid warming triangle comes up and I had to pull over. The car went in creep mode and then rpm and sped was capped.
While driving on a highway at ~60 mph, the check engine light came on (plus other indicator lights) and the car immediately dropped to ~45 mph. ~20 seconds later, while trying to pull into a school parking lot, the hybrid system fault warning came on and the car dropped to ~5-10 mph and then became extremely difficult to control. The car was towed ~80 miles to my home dealership and it was diagnosed as a partially blocked EGR tube. ~1 month later, on the next longer drive I had to make (all other drives were short distances), ~70 miles into the drive, the car started making a knocking sound and then suffered the same failure under the same kind of conditions. This was diagnosed as a failed knock sensor. One week later I tried to drive it a long distance to see if the problem would happen again (but closer...
My son was driving the car, and completely out of nowhere it seized to have any compression and steering/accelerating became disabled. I have been given an estimate up to $7,000 for an engine rebuild due to this happening. I have reached out to Hyundai and they denied my claim due to car being out of warranty. This should have never happened when the car has been well maintained, even with the motor burning through oil faster than it should be, which I have always kept a close eye on. This car is defective and unsafe.
Engine oil light or any warning lights and symbols never came on after Engine had burned out all the oil. Had oil changed and new oil filter installed and in less then a week it burned out 3 quarts, again with no low oil warning at all. Motor stalled at intersection and had to cool down, oil was again added and lower Engine knocking was present. Meanwhile had a mechanic inspect it and diagnostic done and lower bearings are knocking. Vehicle has had this issue for over 4 years and never mentioned to us until now after 100,000 miles. 2019 is when this oil burning issue began. Hyundai dealer serviced this several times and never mentioned the reason for the knocking other then it was low on oil. After breaking down in a busy intersection had to be pushed off road and waited for Engine to cool down to add...
My 2017 Hyundai sonata burns oil rapidly, almost 400 miles it burns 5 quarts of oil. The engine stalls randomly and beings to mis fire. The car has stalled on me in the middle of the road with no check engine light or indicator that a problem is present. I have had to change spark plugs and coils far to offen and every time I have to pay the mechanical shop. There is a recall on the hybrids sonatas but not the gas ones. The dealer acknowledges that the car burns oil allot. Which I’ve been told it can lead to engine failure I have done everything possible. And I’ve spoke to other owners and I’m not alone. The vehicle hasn’t been inspected by others such as police. No warning lights appear
I was traveling on [XXX] Baton Rouge La. and Gonzales La. at 70 mph when I lost power to my vehicle , an alarm sounded saying it was the Hybrid control system failure, putting my safety at risk as I had to maneuver off the interstate and onto the shoulder during heavy traffic . I called State Farm insurance to get my vehicle towed to Ralph Sellers Hyundai in Gonzales La. where it is being repaired. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving the vehicle on the highway, the check engine light began flashing and the car immediately lost almost all power. We had enough power to pull off of the highway off-ramp where the vehicle began jolting before stalling on a side road. We started the car back up and had just enough power to drive into the hospital parking lot next to the side road, where we had it towed to the Hyundai dealer across the highway. That Hyundai dealer identified the Intake Manifold Runner as the culprit via engine fault code P200A00. This Hyundai dealer was also concerned with oil consumption as the car's oil was low even though it had been maintained according to Hyundai standards. They did an oil consumption test, but argued that it was normal, while refusing to repair or replace the Intake Manifold Runner, & only cleaned the Intake Manifold Runner, for which...
The car is consuming excessive amounts of oil. The engine has a knocking, tapping sound. Found out today the intake manifold is bad, which we all know is a very bad thing to go wrong. The engine has a very bad misfire. The car only has 53k miles. I own an 09 Sonata with 154k and I have never had a problem. This is why I continued with Hyundai. Also, the steering seems to tense up regularly. I am very worried about driving this vehicle. I have read hundreds of complaints regarding the excessive oil consumption. I feel you need to express the importance of these concerns to Hyundai
Burning over a quart of oil every 500 miles.
On 12/26/22, I was on a road trip and the car began vibrating violently on the PA turnpike. The car was losing power and would not accelerate. I was forced to stop on the highway with my kids in the car. Hyundai repaired the cylinders in the engine and then it began burning excessive oil, 1 quart ever 1000 miles. For months, I drove this car and as the oil got lower, the car hesitated while driving and ran very rough. On 7/4/23, transmission overheated and once again, car lost power on the road and left me stranded with my kids. Engine is burning excessive oil and causing other issues with car. Was not fixed when car died the first time and has now left me limping along and stranded twice. Car has been at shop since 7/5/23. Engine approved, but dealer can’t get parts. Hyundai won’t approve transmission until...
My engine seized up after burning every drop of oil dry. My last oil replacement was 5,200 miles prior, and Hyundais recommended mileage before replacement is 7,500 miles. I never got a single oil annunciator light.
I was driving southbound on I429 approaching the Vineland Wintergarden (FL)exit. approximately .75 miles from exit, a bit of an uphill. I heard a ticking noise, then suddenly the car went silent. The screen lit up with every sensor flashing. It took me a few seconds to realize I was in potentially deadly trouble. The car began slowing from 70 MPH to maybe 25MPH as I crested the last hill. To add complications, that stretch is under construction and does not have any shoulder. I could see a wall of cars streaming ever closer in my rear view mirror. I believe my hazzard lights probably saved me from a crash before gliding the last 1/4 mile to the exit where I was able to finally pull over to safety.
Car completely lost all power train systems while in motion after repair at dealership for HSG. Car was able to be restarted after shifting into park after complete stop. All instructions in user manual for restarting vehicle while in motion were followed but not successful. The vehicle died again pulling into dealership and the tech began diagnosis.
Total loss of power while driving occurred on 2 separate occasions driving the Hyundai Sonata. The dashboard lit up with multiple failures with no warning, and car lost all power. Both times were in peak traffic conditions and on one of the two instances, a very dangerous mountain road with very little time to react. Towed on 2 occasions to 2 different dealers with no clear cut fix for the car. These were very scary and dangerous incidents and I am afraid to drive this car to be honest. Hyundai has not done much to contact or reassure me that they were dealing with the situation.
Driving this passed saturday and my car was jumping when i would slow it down to decrease my speed. Once my car got to 5mph it’ll jump forward then it would stop. When i went to accelerate it would pick up no speed until 40mph then the engine light came on. I went to get a diagnostic from autozone and it was my power train system having an issue. I have no clue what that was. Went to make an appointment for hyundai NO appointments for a month! What happens if the car shuts down on me? or doesn’t brake when i press on it?
Driving on highway went to pass a vehicle and merge into the next lane, when car lost speed. Pulled over and tried to restart car, car restarted only to shut right back off. Put quart of oil in and shortly after there was a clicking noise when I got up to speed, I had to put two more quarts in as well as a cleaning additive. Cannot drive over 8 mph without car making noise
The check engine light came on and wouldn't accelerate normally. The speed was delayed and cutting back and wouldn't pass 40 mph. Upon taking it to a local shop it had to be taken to the buying location by road side assistance. After the service department checked into the problem it now needs a new engine. They stated there were metal shavings in the motor. This was transferred by a known problem in the 2.4 L motor that hyundai has put in their vehicles with problematic bearings. This happened within 2 months of buying this vehicle. We Can't drive it at all now so it's still at the shop.
at 75000 miles car started to be out of oil 2000 miles after the oil change. At 83000 miles motor went. Check engine lite went on and day later started blinking and car died on the highway. Just went dead. Mechanic tells me motor is shot please help
It's knock sensor issue code was showing since 85000 mileage, dealer just got rid of the code and said can drive safely. Then again at 101000 mileage knock sensor code and Hyundai dealer said software is updated can drive safely. Also it's engine oil burning faster that we keep on topup oil all time. Then at after 108000 mileage my car started overheating, & it's engine seized. Now Hyundai don't want to fix such problems. I don't know maybe it get fixed, then catches fire on highway can cause death.
APRIL 28, 2022 THE ENGINE. IT IS REPLACED AND STILL AT ANTWERPEN HYUNDAI IN BALTIMORE MD. AT GREAT RISK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL FORWARD POWER AND REDUCE SPEED FROM60 MILE PER HOUR ON A BELTWAY WHERE THE TRAFFIC MOVES VERY FAST AND I WOULD QUICKLY GO DOWN TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY 2 CERTIFIED MECHANICS BEFORE TAKEN TO ANTWERPEN WHERE THE 3RD DIAGNOSIS WAS PROVEN A NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I AM NOT SURE IF IT WAS INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE SERVICE DEPT. AT ANTWERPEN WERE IN TOUCH WITH THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THEY APPROVED REPLACING THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO-(NONE) CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BUT IT DID SAY CHANGE THE OIL. I DID CHANGE THE OIL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY 1200 MILES SINCE THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED. THE POWER FAILURE OCCURED TWO TIMES PRIOR TO THE FINAL TIME AND...
Recall on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata was repaired 9/13/2019, purchased the vehicle with financing on 7/16/2021. On 8/18/2021, had vehicle towed back to the dealership and explained the issue. Engine knocking, tire pressure and engine lights on, frequent stalling, turning off, smell of gas and something burning, loss of power to the engine, car could not accelerate to 60 MPH. The dealership had my car till 9/20/2021, power train warranty was denied and voided, no loaner car was given, was not offered any reimbursement for car rental by dealership and Hyundai corporate. Although car is included in Theta class action lawsuit. I was correct about issue with engine, but the dealership replaced engine with used parts. No later than five days after having my car back, the engine and tire pressure lights came back on, car is tugging, and the engine noise is louder. I don’t believe that they replaced...
AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACE IN DECEMBER 2020, NOTICED STARTING IN JAN 2021, THAT VEHICLE DID NOT STAY IN PARK AND ROLLED BACK UP TO 5 FEET FROM WHERE PARKED. PICTURES FROM PARKING LOT, 3/6/2021 ROLLED BACK 5 FEET FROM WHERE IT PARKED. MILEAGE ON 3/6/21 WAS 96858. ON 4/15/21 WE HAVE VIDEO WITH THE NOISE THAT IT IS MAKING WHEN IN PARK AND ROLLS BACK (UNABLE TO ATTACH HERE). MILEAGE ON 4/15/2021 WAS 97881. CAR WAS PARKED IN A HANDICAP SPOT AT A RESTAURANT. THE AMOUNT OF ROLLBACK COULD CAUSE SOMEONE WALKING BEHIND THE VEHICLE TO BE CRUSHED OR KILLED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, NOT ONLY ON AN INCLINE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE; THERFORE, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE.
MY CAR WON'T TURN ON WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION KEY. IT STAYS SILENT NO CLICK OR ANYTHING INDICATING ITS TRYING TO TURN ON. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT RANDOMLY DOES THIS AND RARELY IT TURNS ON WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION.
CAR GIVES WARNING MESSAGE TO "IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE CAR TO PREVENT DAMAGE ".... THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HYUNDAI DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE A FIX, AND DOESN'T THINK ITS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PARTICULARLY WHEN YOU ARE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH NO PLACE TO MOVE OVER TO SHUT OFF THE CAR. *TR
WHEN STARTING CAR, IT STARTS SHAKING REAL HARD THEN CUTS OFF. IT DOESN'T AT TIMES. *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A SCAM DEALERSHIP. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE RECALL IN JANUARY UNTIL IT TURNED OFF AND ON JUST ONE WEEK AFTER LEAVING THE LOT. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THEM, OBVIOUSLY, THEY SAID IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM. I THEN TOOK IT TO COLLEGE PARK HYUNDAI TO HAVE THEM UPDATE THE KNOCK SENSOR AND DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. AFTER AN EXTENDED ROAD TEST, IT WAS DECIDED THAT MY PROBLEM WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. YET I TOOK IT TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS, AND PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE SAYS THE SAME. MY DASH CAM HAS RECORDED THE MOMENTS WHEN THE CAR STUTTERS AND FAILS TO ACCELERATE BEFORE TURNING BACK ON A COUPLE SECONDS LATER. IT HAS HAPPENED ON CURVES AND I HAVE NEARLY DROVE OFF THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THIS. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS REACHING ABOUT 60MPH. I LIVE IN MD BUT WORK...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SPORT DURST HYUNDAI (4507 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BLVD, DURHAM, NC 27707, 919-251-5996) TO BE REPAIRED PER MANUFACTURER RECALL SERVICE CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 953. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR FLASHED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AGAIN, BUT THE SAME FAILURES RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
CAR LOSES POWER IN SITUATIONS WHERE YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE LIKE PASSING AND MERGING. WE JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE 8/3/2019. THIS IS BERY DANGEROUS. AFTER THE CAR JERKS AND LOSES POWER, THEN IT SUDDENLY COMES BACK FULL THROTTLE. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER CAR AS IOST POWER WHILE MERGING INTO 55MPH TRAFFIC. THE CAR IS NOW IN THE SHOP AND WE ARE AWAITING A DIAGNOSTIC. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IF NOT CORRECTED SHOULD CAUSE THESE CARS TO BE TAKEN OUT OFF THE ROAD.
IF THE VEHICLE IS LEFT IN DRIVE AND TURNED OFF IT WILL ROLL BACKWARDS. I GOT OUT OF THE DRIVER SEAL AND THE WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND TURNED THE VEHICLE BEFORE SHE GOT BECAUSE SHE WAS ON THE PHONE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED IN THE ROAD WAY, THANKFULLY NOTHING HAPPENED TO ANYBODY. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEWER MODELS DO NOT DO THIS.
MY VEHICLE IS UNDER 70,000 MILES. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY AND HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL ON THE ROAD ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE IS MAKING A GRINDING/CLICKING NOISE WHEN IT SHIFTS. THE DEALER IS NOT HONORING THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY FROM THE MANUFACTURER.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL ON 06/27/19 STATING THAT I NEEDED TO BRING MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE COMPUTER UPDATED TO PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM EXCESSIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING DAMAGE. I WENT IN TO HAVE THE SERVICE DONE ON 7/1/19. WHEN I CAME TO PICK IT UP THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THE UPDATE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE AND THAT MY CAR AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE COULD GO INTO WHAT THEY CALLED SAFE MODE. HE EXPLAINED WHAT THAT WAS AND I TRULY DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE CAR HOME. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE DRIVING IT. I CONTACTED CUSTOMER CARE BY PHONE, CORPORATE BY EMAIL AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THEY CAN ONLY DO SOMETHING IF THE CAR MALFUNCTIONS. I HAD SCHEDULED A TRIP TO MONTGOMERY THE DAY AFTER I HAD TAKEN MY...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GERALD HYUNDAI OF NORTH AURORA (209 HANSEN BLVD, NORTH AURORA, IL 60542, (877) 781-4106) AND NAPLETON'S VALLEY HYUNDAI (4333 OGDEN AVE, AURORA, IL 60504, (630) 851-2500) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15823638. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,494.*BF CONSUMER STATED THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY OTHER MONTH. CAR FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO STALL AT THE RED LIGHT WHEN YOU PUSJH ON GAS PEDAL. NOES NOT GO FOR A FEW SECONDS. CAR STARTS EVERY TIME AND RUNS OTHERWISE.*JB
CAMPAIGN 953 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BY MAIL FOR THE KNOCK SENSOR DETECTION SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE AND IT WAS COMPLETED ON 03/19/2019. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T ACCELERATE PAST 20 MPH, JERKS AND HESITATE. I CONTACT THE HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, WILL NOT PROVIDE ME A LOANED VEHICLE AND WILL NOT COVER A RENTAL. MY WIFE JUST GAVE BIRTH TO OUR SON ON 03/21/2019 AND WE WERE DEPENDING ON THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT THE BABY FROM THE HOSPITAL TO OUR HOME. I WAS BASICALLY FORCED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER COMPANY, BECAUSE THE HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE COULD NOT GIVE ME A DATE OR AN APPROXIMATION OF WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL BE FIXED. I STILL OWED $3500 AND STILL PAYING INSURANCE...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE GEAR WOULD SHIFT INTO SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH, AND BACK INTO FIRST GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALL STAR HYUNDAI (3950 CENTURY CT, PITTSBURG, CA 94565, (925) 778-7878) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE FOR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,900.
MINOR VIBRATION ON FRONT END AXLE DURING INITIAL ACCELERATION STARTED EARLY DURING OWNERSHIP, BUT INCREASED OVER TIME WITH MILEAGE AND USAGE. TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED FOR DIAGNOSIS, BUT COULD NOT ISOLATE CAUSE. PROBLEM WORSENED OVER NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, SO TOOK IT BACK IN TO SAME DEALERSHIP. FINALLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A MISSING CIRCLIP ("C" CLIP) THAT HOLDS THE CV AXLE IN THE TRANSMISSION CASE. WITHOUT IT, THE AXLE ITSELF WAS WORKING ITS WAY OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE, AND VIBRATING BECAUSE OF ITS LOOSENESS. RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT FULL SEPARATION OF THE AXLE FROM THE TRANSMISSION COULD RESULT IN UNCONTROLLED BEHAVIOR OF CAR, AND INEVITABLE ACCIDENT OR WORSE. THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING/ASSEMBLY ERROR, AND COULD BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM IN THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS COULD PRESENT A DANGEROUS RISK TO OTHER 2017 SONATA PURCHASERS,...
MY VEHICLE WAS IN PARK ON MY STREET. MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I EXITED THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR. I KNEELED ON THE SEAT TO REACH BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT TO GRAB MY LAUNDRY BASKET. THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. WE HIT A VEHICLE DIRECTLY BEHIND US AND ENDED UP IN OUR NEIGHBORS YARD. WE CONTACTED THE POLICE AND A TOW TRUCK WAS SENT. THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED FROM JOYCE'S TOWING ON MT. NEBO ROAD IN PITTSBURGH PA. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER NOTICED THAT WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK THE WHEELS WERE SPINNING. THE BODY SHOP IN WHICH WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO, IS HAVING AN ISSUE TRYING TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME, I DO NOT FEEL THAT OUR VEHICLE IS SAFE, AND DO NOT WANT TO RISK THIS INCIDENT HAPPENING AGAIN, BEING THAT...
MY CAR HAS BEEN HESITATING AND CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHETHER I GO 25 MILES PER HOUR OR 70 MY CAR CONTINUES TO HESITATE. WHEN IT HESITATES I CAN REV THE CAR WITH THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR BUT MY CAR WONT ENGAGE. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND HOPE MY CAR RE-ENGAGES OR MY ENGINE WILL CUT OFF AND I HAVE TO RESTART IT. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES. 0N 11/22 ORLANDO HYUNDAI REPLACED LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP.
