I AM CONTACTING YOU REGARDING THE FOLLOWING RECALLS, PART 573 SAFETY RECALL REPORT 17V-226 AND 15V-568 AFTER VISITING HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TWICE, MY CAR STILL HAS KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE, AND THE LAST MONTH MY CAR ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE
ON SUNDAY MARCH 29,2020, THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO HER DAUGHTER'S HOUSE. A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND THE ENGINE WENT DEAD. IT DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL TO START IT. IT WAS TOWED TO MY WIFE'S DAUGHTER'S HOUSE BY A FRIEND OF MINE WITH A STRAP TO PULL A VEHICLE. THE DISTANCE TO HER HOUSE WAS ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE. THE NEXT DAY ON 03/30/2020 I WENT TO GO CHECK ON IT TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE ON THE ENGINE. ON 03/31/2020 I CONTACTED ALLSTATE, MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY A WRECKER TO AN AUTO ELECTRIC BUSINESS. ON 04/02/2020 THE MECHANIC SAID I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR, THE ENGINE WAS LOCKED. THAT SAME DAY...
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN

THE CHECK ENGINE, OIL, AND THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER ABD OBSERVED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD. THERE WAS ALSO AN ODOR OF BURNING PLASTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO (PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND TURN ENGINE OFF). THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TULSA HYUNDAI LOCATED AT (9777 S. MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74133) TO BE DIAGNOSED WHERE THE FAILURE WAS DISCOVERED TO BE RELATED TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND CURRENTLY STILL AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY $1,500 OF THE REPAIR COST FOR GOODWILL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
YOU CAN ADD MY SONATA TO THE LIST OF BLOWN ENGINE.ITS IN THE SHOP NOW HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ONLY 73,000 + MILES ON IT ALWAYS USED MOBIL ONE.OIL AT AROUND 7,000 MILE INTERVALS. WAS JUST RETURNING HOME GETTING OFF FREEWAY RUNNING AROUND 70MPH SLOWED DOWN FOR CURVE IN SIDE ROAD TO ABOUT 45MPH . ACCELERATED AND ENGINE QUIT SHUTTERED AND VIBRATED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT A MILE ON THE BATTERY TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY WHEN TO BATTERY RAN OUT..
WHILE OWNING MY VEHICLE FOR 5 YEARS, I HAVE REGULARLY MAINTAINED ALL ASPECTS OF THE CAR FROM OIL CHANGES EVERY 3000 MILES TO RECALL NOTICES. I WAS JUST DUE FOR A 3000 MILE OIL CHANGE WHEN WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE CAR SHUT DOWN THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED, AND I ASSUMED THE ALTERNATOR DIED. I GOT IT TOWED AND MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE IS DONE, THERE IS NO OIL! THIS CAME AS A SHOCK SINCE I HAVE IT CHANGED TIMELY AND THERE WAS NO SENSOR OR LIGHT IN THE CAR THAT SHOULD HAVE INDICATED LOW OIL. I READ ON CARGURU WEBSITE WITH OTHER REVIEWS THIS HAPPENED WITH THE SAME VEHICLE MODEL. VERY DISAPPOINTING WITH THIS CAR WITH LOW MILEAGE TO HAVE TO REPLACE AN ENGINE SO SOON.
WHEN I GOT THIS CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE COOLANT CONTAINER DOESNT STAY FULL. IN FACT, I HAVE TO GO TO WALMART TO BY COLLANT AND FILL THE CONTAINER EVERY WEEK. I NOTICED THERE IS A LEAK AS WELL AND ITS SPRAYING ALL OVER THE MOTOR AND BATTERY. ALDO AFTER DRIVING FOR HOURS, I'M ABLE TO OPEN THE CAP TO THE COLLANT CONTAINER WITH NO ISSUES. IT'S NOT HOT OR ANYTHING. NOT SURE WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THIS CAR AND DINT WANT GO SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS JUST FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK AT IT.
AFTER A NEW ENGINE WAS PUT INTO THE SONATA DUE TO RECALL , WITHIN 24 HOURS THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN CATCHING FIRE CAUSING DRIVER TO ABANDON VEHICLE ON HIGH WAY FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT.
WASTEGATE ACCUATOR DEFECTIVE MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE ENGINE FAILURE REPLACEMENT.. BUT RICK CASE HYUNDAI WONT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY AS IT WAS GIVING ISSUES WHEN THE WARRANTY PERIOD WAS STILL VALID. POSSIBLY DAMAGED AT THE TIME OF BLOCK REPLACEMENT AS I HAD TO RETURN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES TO RESOLVE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TURBO FAILURE.

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED IN 2016. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS-16227242, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

WAS GETTING READY TO MOVE FROM NC TO LA. DURING ACCELERATION ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN MOTION, STUMBLED AND THEN DIED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. HAD A HARD TIME STEERING AND BRAKING, BUT LUCKILY THERE WAS NO VEHICLE AROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ENGINE AS FAILING/SEIZED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T LIMITED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER WORKING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHILE PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AND BEFORE I STOPPED ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE PANEL WERE OUT. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO CUT IT OFF WITH THE PUSH STOP BUTTON AND IT WOULD NOT CUT OFF. THEN I CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND BEFORE I ENDED THE CALL THE ENGINE CUT OFF WITHOUT PRESSING THE ENGINE STOP BUTTON. IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN A BUSY AREA THE COULD HAVE ENDED IN A FATALITY. WHY ARE THERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS?

DURING NORMAL DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (65 TO 70 MPH), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR LOST POWER. I WAS VERY STARTLED AND I IMMEDIATELY EXITED AND HEADED TO MY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THE CAR HAD ALMOST NO POWER AND WAS BUCKING HARD. THE ENGINE HAD A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND THAT GREW IN INTENSITY AS THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASED. I DROVE GENTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT INVOLVING OTHER VEHICLES AS I WAS STARTLED AND LOST POWER AT THE SAME TIME IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN EXIT FROM THE ROADWAY TO AVOID MANY MORE MILES OF TRAVEL TO GET TO HELP.
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE CAR JOLTED AND SOMETHING DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OFF OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AND INTO A PARKING LOT. I DISCOVERED MOTOR OIL ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE BAY AND IN THE RIGHT WHEEL WELL. UPON INSPECTION BY TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICAL SHOPS AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY, A HOLE WAS FOUND IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS 90,017 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN INDICATED THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT WOULD LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE AND A HOLE IN THE ENGINE. HYUNDAI IS CLAIMING THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE THETA II ENGINE RECALL AND HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY SLOW TO ASSIST. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2017 WITH APPROXIMATELY 39,500 MILES ON IT. I HAVE CHANGED OIL WITH...
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 60 MPH AND ALL THE SUDDEN IT'S LIKE THE CAR SHUTS OFF, SLOWING TO ABOUT 45. AS I PUSH ON GAS IT DOES NOTHING THEN ABOUT 3 SECONDS LATER JERKS BACK UP AND THEN REPEATS. IT DOES THIS NOW EVERYTIME I AM TRAVELING. MY COLLEGE AGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT STARTED KNOCKING. THEN A WARNING CAME UP THAT SAID TO PARK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY, HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE. AFTER HAVING HER CAR TOWED, IT TURNS OUT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT'S A 2.4 LITER ENGINE VERY SIMILAR TO THE RECALL CURRENTLY GOING ON WITH THE THETA II ENGINES.
WAS CHANGING LANES AND TRIED TO PICK UP SPEED. AT WHICH POINT MY ENGINE LOCKED UP AND NO LONGER TURN OVER. THIS CAUSED MY POWER STEERING TO FAIL, BRAKES TO BE APPLIED DESPITE ME NOT PRESSING THEM. THEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE IT WAS BURNING. I WAS GOING 50 ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS ACCRUED DURING RUSH HOUR.
MY CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. IF THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED AFTER STOPPING IT JERKS VERY HARD BEFORE GOING INTO GEAR. ALSO, MY MILEAGE FOR GAS IS BROKEN. THE ELECTRIC METER WILL GO UP AND DOWN ON ITS OWN AND DOES NOT READ PROPERLY. NO MATTER IF THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, THE GAS METER WILL JUMP UP OR DOWN.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V137000 (AIR BAG, SEAT BELTS), BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND MY CAR SIMPLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND BEGAN TO SHUT OFF. HOW DOES A CAR JUST DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING?! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. UNKNOWN REASONING FOR FAILURE, BUT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION OR ISSUE WITH THE ALTERNATOR. I AM NOW AWARE OF A RECALL ON THAT INDICATES ENGINE FAILURE WOULD RESULT IN VEHICLE STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF CRASH!!!! UNBELIEVABLE. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND A COST ESTIMATE WAS PROVIDED FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,614.
METAL IN THE OIL AND MAKING A NOISE. IT STALLED NOT ONCE BUT TWICE WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. HAD TO PULL OVER THEN PUT IN PARK AND RESTART. JUST HAD OIL CHANGED AND IT WAS 1000 UNDER NEEDING IT DONE AGAIN. HAVE NO IDEA WHY METAL SHAVINGS WOULD BE IN THE OIL. PRETTY SURE SOMETHING HAPPENED WITH THE RODS NOW.

WHILE TRYING TO MAKE IT HOME, IT STALLED FOR A THIRD TIME AND WHILE PULLING OVER IT STARTED SMOKING SO BAD I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THERE IS AN ENGINE RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE BUT DEALER IS GIVING ME THE RUNAROUND. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW HYUNDAI HAS HANDLED THE INCIDENT THAT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD OFF BEEN DEADLY.
WHEN DRIVING IN HUNTSVILLE, AL ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY WHEN I'M TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL IT MAKES A CLICKING NOISE AND THE COLUMN APPEARS LOOSE. THE BRAKES ARE STICKING AND REQUIRES ME TO PUSH DOWN HARD TO STOP MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT LIGHTS AND BACK ENDS LIGHTS NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY CONTINUE TO GO OUT FREQUENTLY. I PURCHASED NEW TIRES IN JUNE 2019 FROM BENTLEY HYUNDAI IN HUNTSVILLE, AL AND WHILE DRIVING THE TIRE TUBE POPPED AND DEFLATED. THERE WERE NO NAILS IN THE TIRE. THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE TUBE. I ALMOST CRASHED.
OUR 2012 SONATA IS NOW ON ITS 3RD ENGINE (1 ORIGINAL AND 2 ADD'L). THESE WERE SUBJECT TO RECALL. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH HIS HOOD. NO FLAMES WERE NOTICED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY AAA TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH VAPOR LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BUT WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER INVER GROVE HYUNDAI (1290 50TH ST E, INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN 55077 (888) 706-5928) BUT NO DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT AN INVESTIGATION WOULD TAKE PLACE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
MY 2012 HYBRID SONATA, 104,000 MILES, SUDDENLY STARTED JERKING AND NEARLY STALLING ONE RECENT MORNING ON A DRIVE FROM HOME ON A DIVIDED ROAD. IT BARELY MOVED FORWARD, BADLY JERKING, MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN WAS : HYBRID BATTERY LOW. PULL UP SAFELY AN PLACE THE CAR IN PARK". SO AFTER 1/2 MILE, I RETURNED HOME. BECAUSE OF LOW SPEED ON A DIVIDED ROAD, THERE WAS A SERIOUS CONCERN OF BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED NEXT MORNING TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY REPORTED 'NOTHING WRONG FOUND' AND RETURNED THE CAR WHICH IS RUNNING FINE, THOUGH JERKING TRANSMISSION AT LOW SPEED. I AM WONDERING IF THIS HAPPENED AWAY FROM HOME, WHAT SHALL I DO. I NEED ASSURANCE THAT THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. HOW DO WE GET THAT ASSURANCE ?
I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM. WHEN I WOULD TAKE OFF IN MY CAR, I ACCELERATE AND AFTER I STARTED GOING, I COULD PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND IT HAD NO POWER, IT WOULD ALMOST COMPLETELY STALL IN THE ROAD. I HAVE NOW HAD TWO MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY HYBRID. THE FIRST WAS 5 MONTHS AGO. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE, WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN HE LOST POWER AND THE ENGEN STARTED SMOKING AND MAKE HORRIBLE NOISES.
