I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN I HEARD AN ENGINE KNOCK I LOOKED OUT MY WINDOW TO SEE ORANGE FLAMES FROM UNDERNEATH MY CAR PULLED OVER THE INTERIOR CAR AND GOLF IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I HAD ONE ADULT PASSENGER A 12 YEAR OLD CHILD AND MYSELF IN THE VEHICLE WAS VERY SCARY.

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED AN ABNORMAL ODOR COMING FROM THE HOOD AND BASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
THE FIRST TIME I WENT OUT TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT WOULDN'T START WHILE IN MY DRIVEWAY. I CALLED HYUNDAI FREEHOLD AND THEY SAID THERE 'MAY BE' A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE BUT THEY WOULDN'T KNOW UNTIL THEY BROUGHT IT IN. (REALLY, EVEN WITH THE MASSIVE RECALLS ACROSS THE NATION? OKAY.) THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE TOW. THEY WOULD REIMBURSE ME AFTER THE FACT. I PLAYED DUMB AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEM BUT REPORTED IT TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE. THEN HYUNDAI OF FREEHOLD ADMITTED THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A NEW ENGINE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS COMING OUT OF THE COLLEGE FROM A NIGHT CLASS AND IT WOULDN'T START. I CALLED THEM THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING (WE WON'T PAY FOR THE TOW WE WILL REIMBURSE YOU). THEY KNEW BY THE SECOND TIME AROUND THAT I...
I BELIEVE MY CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V759000 BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD DETERIORATION I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING PRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO COME ON AND STAY ILLUMINATED PREVENTING ACCURATE COMMUNICATION TO REARWARD FOLLOWING VEHICLES THAT THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING OR STOPPING. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHIFT THE THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. LASTLY, WHEN THIS ALL OCCURS WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE LOSES POWER AS OFF I AM PRESSING THE BREAK. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET, HIGHWAY AND WHILE TURNING.

WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WAS MAKING HARD SHIFTS WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. THEN IT SLOWED AND GAS PEDAL WHEN PRESSED WAS LIKE BEING IN NEUTRAL, THEN IT WOULD CATCH AND STOP AGAIN...THEN HAD NO POWER AT ALL. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALSO, THE SOCKETS MELTED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT HAD TO BE REMOVED TO PREVENT THE MIDDLE REAR BRAKE LIGHT FROM REMAINING ILLUMINATED. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TAIL LIGHT WAS OPERABLE, BUT EVENTUALLY SHORTED OUT AS WELL. THE CONTACT ORDERED REPLACEMENT TAIL LIGHTS THREE TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE CONCERNING THE FUEL SYSTEM. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE INTERMITTENTLY. WELL I BOUGHT THE CAR A FEW YEARS BACK. I LEARNED ABOUT A FEW RECALLS ON THE CAR AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN. THEY FIXED ONE ISSUE, WHILE THEY SAID THE ENGINE WAS FINE. 2 YEARS PASS AND I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. NOTE THERE WHERE NO SIGNS OF THE ENGINE HAVING TROUBLE. JUST PASSED SMOG. HAD THE OIL CHANGED, THE AIR FILTERS AND INTAKE FILTERS CHANGED. THE CAR MAKES THIS NOISE LIKE A RATTLE NOISE. I TURN OFF MY MUSIC AND WAS LISTENING TO THE NOISE. THE CAR SEEMED LIKE IT WAS LOSING POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND ACCELERATING WAS DECLINING . ALL OF A SUDDEN CHE K ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. NOT EVEN A MOMENT LATER THE ENGINE TURNS OFF. I WAS SCARED. ENGINE SEIZED ON EXPRESS WAY. HAD TO BE TOWED. ENGINE REPLACED. NOW WE HAVE A RECALL. STATING "DURING ENGINE REPLACEMENTS UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 132 AND 162, THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL P IPE MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED, MISALIGNED, OR IMPROPERLY TORQUED DURING THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE, ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK. A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESSENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF FIRE. WE BELIEVE WE CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE OUR VEHICLE.
SONATA HAD A NOTICEABLE DECLINE IN ACCELERATION MINUTES BEFORE THE ENGINE HAD A SMALL FIRE. THE CAR WAS CHUGGING SLIGHTLY WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN, ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND I QUICKLY PULLED OVER. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND TRYING TO RESTART IT, THE ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING. DURING THIS DRIVE ON LOCAL STREETS, I NEVER WENT ABOVE 45 MPH AND WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR HARD.
MY CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD TICKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE, I TOOK IT IN AND THEY TOLD ME IT'S NORMAL BUT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT WAS NOT MAKING THAT NOISE AT ALL. AS MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER MYSELF TO THE SHOULDER AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART WITH NO SUCCESS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOME AND TRIED STARTING IT THIS MORNING, NOTHING. IT WOULD CLICK, THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD COME ON BUT STILL WILL NOT START. I CONTACTED BLUE LINK AND THEY TOLD ME ALL SYSTEM WE'RE GREEN ON THEIR END AND COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND COULD NOT DO AN ON DEMAND DIAGNOSTIC FOR MY CAR, I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR, I ACTIVATED...
WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND LOSE SPEED THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC. TRANSMISSION FLUID SPILLED OUT PROFUSELY. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BUT STARTED TO SLIP AGAIN THE SAME DAY I PICKED IT UP AFTER NEW (REMANUFACTURED) TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED BY THE HYUNDAI DEALER. PRIOR TO THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE, THE ALTERNATOR IN MY CAR FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC. THIS COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER A NEW ENGINE WAS INSTALLED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL ENGINE SEIZED AND FAILED PRIOR. ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. THE NEWLY INSTALLED ALTERNATOR FAILED AGAIN. A NEW ALTERNATOR WAS ONCE AGAIN INSTALLED. I AM NOW HAVING SIMILAR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS YET AGAIN AND THERE IS A CURRENT CONCERN THAT THE VEHICLE MAY POSSIBLY STOP SUDDENLY AND HAZARDOUSLY AGAIN WHILE IN MOTION.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND NOTICED NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WITH MY VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS STEPPING AWAY FROM MY CAR AND PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON THERE WAS NO CLICKING SOUND. I CONTINUED INTO THE BUILDING AND RETURNED TO MY CAR A FEW MINUTES LATER AND IT WOULD NOT START. ALL OF THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON, BUT THE BRAKE LOCKED UP AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE THE BATTERY WHICH DID NOT WORK. I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY CABLES FOR A PERIOD OF TIME TO RESET THE LOCK SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY UNLOCK THE STARTING SYSTEM, WHICH DID NOT WORK EITHER. IT HAS ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE I TOOK THIS VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM UPDATED DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE ISSUES IN OTHER VEHICLES. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND IT DOES NOT SHOW FROM...

VEHICLE DIED DUE TO BEARING FAILURE, WHEN BROUGHT TO HYUNDAI WAS IMMEDIATELY DENIED WITHOUT ENTERING REPAIR FACILITY DUE TO "VEHICLE HISTORY". VIDEO CAN BE PROVIDED, CANNOT ATTACH. FIRE WAS DUE TO STARTER MOTOR CATCHING FIRE AT FAILURE. EXTINGUISHED MYSELF.

THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, THE PLASTIC THAT THE TAIL LIGHT BULB IS ATTACHED TO IS MELTING AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TAIL LIGHT CASING ALREADY RECENTLY. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT, I REPLACES A BULB AND THE PLASTIC IS STARTING TO LOOK BURNED AGAIN. TWO WEEKS SINCE I REPLACED THAT BULB, THE LIGHT IS OUT AGAIN.EVERYTIME I HAVE THIS PROBLEM MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER A FEW DAYS IT GOES OFF. WHEN I TAKE CALL THE DEALER THEY SAID IF THE LIGHT GOES OFF THEY CANNOT CHECK THE PROBLEM, THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 3 YEARS AFTER I GOT THIS CAR AND NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND WILL NOT GO OFF.THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALWAY ON SINCE A YEAR AGO. WHILE DRIVING TO MOBILE ALABAMA AFTER OUR VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND WERE TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS FINE, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,616.
ENGINE SEIZE UP
CAR HAD A THRUSTING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING ON FREEWAY, LOST STRENGTH POWER, NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. ELECTRICAL WENT OUT, THEN CAME BACK ON WHEN I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. UPON DECELERATION, SMOKE COMING FROM BACK, THEN UPON STOP SMOKE WAS IN FRONT. WHEN HOOD WAS LIFTED, FIRE AT THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK.
THE CAR HAS RANDOMLY STALLED THREE TIMES, TWO OF WHICH OCCURRED WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC (RIGHT-TURN MAJOR INTERSECTION AND ENTERING HIGHWAY). ALL LIGHTS ON DASH APPEAR WITHOUT WARNING AND THE CAR WONT ACCELERATE, BRAKE OPTIMALLY, OR STEER (LIKE IN THE LAST INSTANCE). CAR WON'T START BACK UP AT ALL NOW, WON;T EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER. ALL INSTANCES OCCURRED RANDOMLY WHILE IN MOTION. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED THE CAR STARTED UP WITH A SPUTTERING HESITATION, NOW I AM PRETTY SURE THE ENGINE SEIZED ON THE LAST OCCURRENCE.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN SMOKE STARTED COMING INSIDE THE CAR FROM THROUGHOUT THE DASHBOARD I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND I SAW FIRE AT BACK OF ENGINE WHERE THE ORANGE TUBE AND COMPONENT. AFTER THAT THE WHOLE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE IT WAS TOTAL LOST. BY THE WAY AT THE SAME DAY AT 7:45 AM I WAS AT RICK CASE HYUNDAI FOR MAINTENANCE FOR THE CAR.
ARRIVING AT BUSY INTERSECT WHEN ACCELERATORS AND BRAKES CEASED TO WORK ALL DASH LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH FOR LIGHT TO BE GREEN AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AT SHOULDER THROUGH INTERSECTION W FLASHERS AND HORN BLOWING ! I RESTARTED CAR AND PULLED INTO A LOCAL BUSINESS W A CLUNKING NOISE!! WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC WHO HAS REGULARLY SERVICED THIS VEHICLE THAT IT WAS THE ENGINE ! WHY BRAKE/ACCELERATION NOT WORKING ?? I WAS TOLD HE'S HAD 3 OTHER SONATAS IN THIS MONTH THAT 'JUST BURNED UP ALL THE OIL ' WITHOUT A LIGHT ON OR ANYTHING. I COULD HAVE BEEN ON S BUSY HIGHWAY AND KILLED IN ADDITION TO RISK TO OTHERS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON TWO LANE HIGHWAY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR SMELLED OF BURNING PLASTIC AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM PASSENGER SIDE UNDER HOOD. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND MOTOR WAS REPLACED THRU RECALL. ON 8/20 I WAS SCHEDULED TO PICK UP AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS HAD MELTED BADLY AND THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I FILED CASE #11538113 WITH HYUNDAI CORPORATE ON 8/20, CITING THAT IT APPEARED TO BE RELATED TO THE MOTOR SEIZING, AND/OR A SAFETY DEFECT. I WAS DENIED ASSISTANCE ON 9/20 AND CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO BEGIN WORK AT MY COSTS. THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP AS THEY ARE STATING HYUNDAI CANNOT RELEASE THE WIRING HARNESS. RESEARCH ON WHY BROUGHT ME TO SIMILAR COMPAINTS THE APPEAR TO WARRANT A RECALL.

HAD MOTOR REPLACED FROM A PREVIOUS RECALL, 4DAYS AFTER THIS FIX I NOTICED A ROUGH IDLE. MY ENGINE BEGAN KNOCKING AFTER I HAD AN OIL CHANGE THE MORNING OF DEC 7TH 2018, THE NEXT DAY THE KNOCKING GOT LOUDER AND MY ENGINE ATALLED COMPLETELY WHEN GOING ROUGLT 20MPH. MY CAR ENGINE WOULDN'T START AND I HAD MY CAR TOWED. I FINANCED MY CAR AT 97K MILES FROM AUTO EXPRESS KIA RT 8 IN ERIE PA ON APRIL 28TH 2018, I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR NO LONGER THAN A LITTLE OVER 7 MONTHS. "FIRE HAZARD" RECEIVED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT UNDER HYUNDAI ENGINE RECALL, I PICKED-UP THE CAR ON 09-13-18. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS OCCUR IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUES IS A FUEL/GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN AND AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NOW THERE IS EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHENEVER I JUST TURN ON THE IGNITION WITHOUT STARTING THE CAR. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND UNDER THE ENGINE AREA. I READ THAT SOME CARS ARE CATCHING ON FIRE AFTER HYUNDAI REPLACED THE ENGINES UNDER THE ENGINE RECALL. MY CONCERN IS FOR SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THERE IS POTENTIAL THAT MY CAR MAY/WILL CATCH ON FIRE. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN OVER THREE WEEKS. I'VE FILED A COMPLAINT ON 12-03-2018 WITH HYUNDAI MOTORS(CASE # 13222827) BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY UPDATES AS OF YET.
TURBO CHARGER FAILS TO ENGAGE RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE'S DANGEROUSLY MINIMAL SPEED AND INABILITY TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC FLOW. ACCELERATION IS SLUGGISH AT BEST AFTER REPLACING VARIOUS TURBO COMPONENTS.

THE CONTACT HAD TO MAKE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE BUCKLE TO FINALLY SECURE. THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED BY A CREDIT MONITORING APPLICATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V137000 (SEAT BELTS AND AIR BAGS), 17V152000 (SEAT BELTS), AND 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I AM NOW SEEING THAT HYUNDAI IS BEING UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION OVER THE FIRES. I NOTIFIED THE COMPANY BACK IN JUNE OF 2018 ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST THE ENGINE RECALL. NOW THAT THE COMPANY IS UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION, I FEEL THE COMPANY LIED TO ME EARLIER DURING MY ISSUE.

THE CAR HAS ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL NEEDING TO BE PERFORMED ON THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME BECAUSE THE DEALER STATES ITS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL MILAGE SLOT. I FEEL AS IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE AS A SAFETY RECALL...

SPEED 65 MPH WENT TO PASS TRAFFIC BY APPLY THROTTLE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, CAR MADE SOUND OF OVER REVVING. WHITE SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDERNEATH HOOD EQUALLY ON BOTH SIDES. IMMEDIATELY STEERED CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED SMOKE CAME FROM CAR VENTS. LEFT VEHICLE WHITE SMOKE BECAME MORE INTENSE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE. FRONT OF VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE ENTIRE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITHIN 4 MINUTES ATTEMPT TO PASS TRAFFIC. 911 CALLED IOWA HIGHWAY PATROL AND IOWA CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED. VEHICLE TOTAL LOSS NO INJURIES OTHER THAN SMOKE INHALATION OF THE 2 OCCUPANTS. VEHICLE SINGLE OWNER NO ACCIDENT HISTORY, ENGINE RECALL BY HYUNDAI COMPLIED WITH AND NO PROBLEM DETECTED.
