I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE FROM ENGINE. ALL MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. I LOST ALL POWER IN VECHICLE.

THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A CATASTROPHIC MOTOR FAILURE AND THAT THE DEALER NEEDED TO PROVIDE A REPAIR. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT AT THE DEALER FOR LONGER THAN TWO MONTHS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MOTOR AND STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
NOV. 2014 WHILE ACCELERATING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH THE MOTOR OF MY 2012 SONATA SUDDENLY SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. NARROWLY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT! AFTER HOURS ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE IT WAS FINALLY TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. NOTE THIS HAPPENED AT 104,000 MILES, HYUNDAI CERTIFIED MECHANICS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THE"SEIZED ENGINE" WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE (WHICH WAS A BLATANT LIE) THEY INFORMED US THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN 5-6K FOR A NEW ENGINE OR OFFERED TO BUY THE CAR FOR A FRACTION OF WHAT WAS OWED ON IT; WHICH WAS A JOKE. AFTER MONTHS OF THE CAR SITTING IN MY YARD AND DOING NON-STOP RESEARCH, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME. I CONTEMPLATED ON BUYING A USED ENGINE FOR THE CAR BUT THAT WOULD'VE JUST PUT ME...
I WAS DRIVING ON A 6 LANE CITY ROAD.. I GOT IN A LEFT HAND TURN LANE. THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE LIGHT WAS RED. WHEN IT TURNED TO A GREEN ARROW., I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GO AND THE ENGINE HAD STALLED. I HAD JUST FILLED UP WITH GAS THE NIGHT BEFORE SO I KNEW I WAS NOT OUT OF GAS. I TURNED OFF THE STATIONARY, STALLED CAR AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. NOTHING! THE ENGINE DIED AS I SAT AT A RED LIGHT. I HAD IT TOWED. THERE WAS NO WARNING. ONE MINUTE IT WAS RUNNING FINE AND THE NEXT MINUTE WITHOUT WARNING SIGNS, IT WAS DEAD. A FEW MINUTES BEFORE I HAD BEEN ON A FREEWAY WITH MY CAR RUNNING FINE. IF IT HAD HAPPENED THEN THERE COULD HAVE SERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES.
MOTOR KNOCKS GOING UP HILLS.AND HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR 2-YRS.
I HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA THAT MY CAR IS PART OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN 15V-568. THE ISSUE IS METAL DEBRIS FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND POSSIBLE ENGINE SEIZING. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE WILL EVALUATE THE ENGINE WITH A "SOUND" TEST, ONLY, TAKING ABOUT 15 MINUTES. THIS BEING THE AUTHORIZED METHOD FROM HYUNDAI TO THIS DEALER. I ASSUME THAT NHTSA HAS APPROVED THIS METHOD OF EVALUATION. THIS METHOD OF TESTING WILL ONLY IDENTIFY THOSE ENGINES THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED ENOUGH EXCESS WEAR TO CAUSE UNUSUAL NOISES. THIS DEPENDENT ON MILES DRIVEN WHICH WILL VARY SIGNIFICANTLY AMONG THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES EFFECTED. METAL DEBRIS BLOCKING OIL PASSAGES WILL NOT BE DETECTED BY THIS TEST. CRANKSHAFT AND BEARING DAMAGE DUE TO METAL DEBRIS THAT WILL BE A LONG TERM PROBLEM WILL NOT BE DETECTED BY THIS NOISE TEST. VEHICLES WITH LOW MILEAGE SUCH AS MINE...

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
HAD A MINOR FENDER BENDER AND THE CAR STALLED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT THE ENGINE CEASED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY FAULT . I HAD THE OIL CHANGED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE SO I KNOW THAT WAS NOT AN ISSUE. I WAS FORCED TO EITHER TRADE THE DEAD CAR IN OF PAY $6500. FOR A NEW ENGINE. HYUNDAI TOLD ME OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT HYUNDAI HAD NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. THEN AFTER 1 MONTHS AND BEING FORCED TO BUY A NEW CAR I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HYUNDAI THAT MY CAR WAS BEING RECALLED FOR THE ENGINE CEASING. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED WITH YOU GUYS.

THE ENGINE OIL PAN WAS RESEALED FIVE TIMES AND STILL ITS LEAKING. WHEN THEY RESEALED THE SECOND TIME, THEY REPLACED THE OIL PAN AS WELL. AFTER THAT IT WAS RESEALED THREE MORE TIMES AND THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR SIXTH RESEAL. THEY ARE REPLACING THE PAN AGAIN. THE BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS ARE EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE RUST WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN IN MY LIFE WHILE OWNING AND MAINTAINING VARIOUS CARS. THE FIELD ENGINEER IS SAYING THAT ITS NORMAL AND I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. WHAT I HAVE SEEN BASED ON THAT IT'S A DESIGN FLAW. THE CALIPER PISTON SHOULD BE PRESSING COMPLETELY AGAINST THE BRAKE PAD SURFACE AREA WHERE AS SMALL PORTION OF THE CALIPER REMAINS IN NON CONTACT WITH THE PAD AND THE SALT AND SLUSH DURING THE WINTER GETS INTO IT MAKING IT RUST WHICH WILL IMPEDE THE BRAKING OPERATION IN FUTURE AND MAY CAUSE A FATAL...

1/23/2016 8:02 AM I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING HER 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA ON THE I-95 IN SOUTH FLORIDA ON THE WAY TO WORK GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN SHE WENT TO ACCELERATE TO OVERTAKE A CAR DRIVING SLOWER. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION POWER AND THE SPEED DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 40 MPH. WHEN THE SPEED REACHED 40 MPH, SHE COULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE AND HENCE QUICKLY PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (UPON MY REQUEST). DUE TO THE HEAVY TRAFFIC, SHE WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I ARRIVED TO SWITCH CARS WITH HER, THE CAR STARTED FINE AND ACCELERATED APPROPRIATELY. (NOISE OBVIOUSLY NOTICEABLE) AFTER DRIVING CAR WITH MECHANIC HE SAID THE CVTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I TOOK MY RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA # 15V-568. I ASKED IF THIS WAS DUE TO METAL DEBRIS LEFT IN ENGINE THEY SAID NO.THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL.TOOK 2 WEEKS FOR CVTS TO BE REPLACED. ABOUT 8 DAYS LATER AFTER HYUNDAI RETURNING CAR THE NOISE WAS BACK. 3 WEEKS IT GOT WORSE, CALLED HYUNDAI DEALER, TOOK IT BACK. THE SERVICE REP. AGAIN CLAIMS THEY DONT HEAR ANTHING.HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR AGAIN TO IDENTIFY NOISE TO MECHANIC.ITS VERY FRUSTRATING. THERE STILL IS NO SOLUTION TO RATTLE NOISE, RECALL OR HAVE THEY INSPECTED...

MY 2012 SONATA HAS STOPPED ACCELERATING AND SHIFTING PROPERLY. WHEN THE GAS PEDDAL IS PRESSED, THE CAR REVS HIGH AND DOES NOT UPSHIFT PROPERLY, RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL POWER LOSS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DAYS AFTER THIS BEGAN AND GAVE CODE P2562 FOR AN ERROR IN THE TURBOCHARGER. FURTHER RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE RELATING TO THE WASTE VALVE OF THE TURBOCHARGER. THIS IS A GRAVE SAFETY CONCERN AS THE CAR CANNOT SAFELY MERGE ONTO ROADWAYS AND CAN LOSE POWER RANDOMLY AT ANY TIME, RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE AND MUST CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE BEFORE DETERMINING IT IS COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY.

ON 08/30/2015, I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA TO MY RESIDENCE AND THE ENGINE TO THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD LIGHTED UP, AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE ENGINE OF THE VEHICLE AT NO COST, BUT I WAS CHARGED $125.87 FOR A NEW CAR BATTERY. MY CAR BATTERY WAS FULLY OPERATIONALLY BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WOULD LIKE A REFUND FOR THE AMOUNT I PAID FOR THE CAR BATTERY. I WAS TRAVELING ON A PUBLIC STREET WHERE VEHICLES WERE BEHIND AND IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A LETTER SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED FOR A RECALL OF THE ENGINES FOR 2011-2012 HYUNDAI SONATAS.

LOOKING FURTHER INTO THE FLUTED TUBE THAT RAN DOWN INTO THE FILTER HOUSING AND DISPERSED THE OIL INTO THE FILTER WAS MANGLED TO THE POINT WHERE THE PAPER ELEMENT WAS COMING OUT OF THE INTO THE OIL FILTER CENTER TUBE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS SABOTAGED AS HIS BROTHER-N-LAW HAD JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGED. *JB

AFTER STARTING THE CAR AFTER IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 8 HOURS OR MORE, IT SEEMS THE TURBO CHARGER WAS NOT ENGAGED. NO ENGINE FAULT LIGHT WAS ON AND THE POWER WAS DIMINISHED. IF YOU STOP AND RE-START THE ENGINE EVERYTHING WOULD BE BACK TO NORMAL WITH THE TURBO CHARGER ENGAGED. EVENTUALLY THIS PROCEDURE STOPS WORKING AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO ADJUST THE TURBO. THE SAFETY ASPECT IS IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE FULL POWER PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THEN SUDDENLY YOU DON'T, THEN AN ACCIDENT CAN HAPPEN. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME I GOT INTO MY CAR AT WORK AND IT STARTED FINE. WHEN I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC I COULD FEEL SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT AND THE CAR BARELY MOVED YET THE ENGINE REVVED TO OVER 4K.
A VERY LOUD, CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELARATE AND EVENTUALLY STALLED ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR STARTED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACED AND I HAD TO ACQUIRE A RENTAL CAR FOR A WEEK. I WAS THEN INFORMED OF THE RECALL AFTER MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE ENGINE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED SO ANOTHER REBUILT HAD TO BE INSTALLED. REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS IS EXPECTED DUE TO RECALL.
WE PURCHASED THIS 2011 SONOTA USED FROM THE FOX DEALERSHIP IN GRAND RAPIDS, MI. THE CAR STARTED WITH ODD ENGINE SOUNDS ON 3/3/15 WHILE DRIVING CITY & LOCAL AND THEN STALLED OUT. WAS ABLE TO RESTART & 2 DAYS LATER THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES IT DID RESTART AND WE GOT IT TO A SHOP A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. AFTER THAT IT WOULD NOT START. THE SHOP SAID THE ENGINE WAS FROZEN. AFTER CALLING FOX HUYNDAI TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP US, AS WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPT 2013, THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND ONLY OFFERED $4000 TO INSTALL A REFAB MOTOR. THE SHOP IT WAS AT SAID $4500 FOR A NEW MOTOR AND NEITHER COULD GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM WOULDN'T ARRISE. WE ENDED UP SCRAPING OUT THE CAR AFTER 4 DAYS OF GETTING QUOTES AND TRYING TO DETERMINE OUR BEST OPTION. THE CAR...
