My father's Honda CRV, which I was driving, suffered a computer reset due to a low voltage drop. This was, in turn, due to a failing fuel injector. The computer reset disabled many safety systems and core systems, including the parking brake (which is electronic), as well as adaptive cruise control, the tire monitoring system and blind spot sensors, tire inflation warning, hill start feature, and many others. There were no warning signs prior to the reset. After calling the dealership and reporting these issues, they still advised me to drive into the dealership for service. Upon doing so, they diagnosed the failing fuel injector. At this point, I had done research on the issue and found hundreds of similar reports concerning Honda CRVs and models with the 1.5L Turbo engine. Despite warranty extensions for some vehicles, the dealership claims that our VIN is not covered under the warranty extension....
On October 7, 2025, I was driving to work. There was a steel metal plate of approximately 1 inch height lying flat on the roadway, presumably to cover up a pothole or other utility work. The steel metal plate was near an intersection where I was to be turning left. I was driving relatively slow as it was almost time to make the left turn, about 15-20 mph. When I was almost upon the steel metal plate my car braked to a complete stop because of the Collision Mitigation Braking System. The intense deceleration has had my back in pain all day, and my neck is slowly starting to hurt as well. I feel like I was in a car accident from how quickly my car came to a stop over what appeared to be the steel plate tripping the CMBS. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My...
I’m writing to report a recurring and increasingly dangerous issue with the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) in my vehicle. The problem began shortly after I purchased the car. The system would intermittently flash the word “BRAKE” and apply the brakes without any apparent reason. Initially, this was more of an annoyance, but it has since escalated into a serious safety concern. Most recently, while driving through an intersection with no vehicles in front or behind me, the system suddenly applied the brakes with significant force. This caused everything in the front seat to be thrown to the floor and forced me into the steering wheel. The weather was clear—no rain or sun glare—and there were no visible obstructions. Had there been a vehicle behind me, I believe a rear-end collision would have been likely due to the abrupt deceleration. I have brought the car to the dealership where I...
THE ADAS SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING, IT KEPT BLINKING WARNING SIGNS ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
Last week, the collision avoidance braking system activated without being triggered by an actual hazard. I was traveling btw 30 and 40 mph on a straight road, overcast conditions, no pedestrian or oncoming traffic or vehicle in front of me, nor any shadows, or roadworks that could be perceived as a problem. My car flashed the BRAKE sign and immediately braked very hard, car coming to a full stop. LUCKILY no one was behind me, or I'm sure i would have been rear-ended. I was able to continue driving normally right away, but It was very alarming and unsettling to happen with no provocation. This has been reported by others. I disabled the avoidance braking system for the next few days until I could get the car into my local dealer which happened today, 4/29/25. They ran complete diagnostics, could not replicate the problem, confirming the camera and forward radar...
I was driving 50 mph, "BRAKE" lit up, immediately my car slammed on the brakes while I had my foot on the gas pedal! Cruise control was not on. Nothing was in front of me - no cars, snow, rain, plastic bag, etc. This has happened many times before. I thought it had to do with Automatic Cruise Control, but it's much worse. I told the dealership and taken it in many times & I have written to Honda Regional Customer Svc. What do I do now?
On [XXX] at [XXX], I was driving down the road - there were no vehicles in front of me. The sky was clear and the sun was bright. There are several trees whose limbs extend high above the roadway causing a shadow to be created beneath them. All of a sudden, the collision avoidance system activated on my car. The "BRAKE" light illuminated, the "chirping" sound associated with the "BRAKE" light activation occurred, and the brakes were instantly applied slowing me from 40 mph to about 15 mph. There was no impediment (vehicles, pedestrians, animals, etc.) in front of my car nor was there a car next to mine in an adjacent lane. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is this: the tree limbs overhead created a "shadow" on the roadway. This "shadow" was of enough contrast in brightness from the roadway, just prior to this incident,...
Forward braking system came on while traveling approximately 25 mph with no car in front of me. The system showed flashing braking light then car applied the brakes hard causing me to drop to a very slow speed. I was fortunate to not get rear ended. The braking system intermittently shows lights for no reason but has never applied the brakes before. I brought this to the dealer while it was still under warranty and explained the lights came on for no reason while no car was in front of me and was told it was working properly. This is a huge safety concern that Honda seems to be dismissing. Thank you
Yesterday, my car was working fine. This afternoon October 1, 2024, when I turned on the engine I saw a prompt “CMBS problem” on the screen. Warning signs/lamps lit up as well, 1. Adaptive control cruise problem, Road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem, and auto high beam problem. I have not contacted the dealership about this current issue because I plan to go to the dealership to do my oil change this coming Saturday 10/05/2024. Just an FYI, they still haven’t addressed my recall ( the 2017-22 fuel pump mtr saf recall exp2). At this time, no injury happened, but I am definitely scared of my safety using my car.
While coming home from a restaurant, all kinds of warnings were displayed on the screen. Then as I got in front of my house, my brakes and transmission locked up preventing the car from moving. I had it towed to the Honda dealer and after inspection I was told the wires in the harness leading to the rear view mirror were loose and caused the electrical system in my vehicle to malfunction. I had no idea why this happened as neither my wife or I ever touched those wires. I was told the repair would cost $3,650 and would not be covered by the extended warranty I had purchased when I bought the car new. I did go ahead and authorize the repair, but was not happy about it. The service advisor said this had happened before on other Honda vehicles. This is a major safety defect that could cause...
Warning lights: adaptive cruise control fault. Lane departure fault collision avoidance fault and emissions check engine. Diagnosed fix: fuel injectors malfunctioning. This making the emissions light come on making all the other warning lights to go off. Fixed at a local Honda dealer. Not really a fix less then 24 hours later the same warning lights came back on however now a huge loss of power and loud engine noise when stepping on throttle. Just dropped off at dealer again to be diagnosed again.
The CMBS suddenly engaged the brakes when there was no other vehicle on the road no less in front of the vehicle. The brakes very forcefully engaged causing the vehicle to slam to a stop. The light has come on previously on occasion with no cause but the brakes have never been engaged till now.
Our 2019 Honda CRV had all warning lights on and flashing non-stop on the dash. We contacted Honda support and was asked to take car to a Honda dealer for diagnostics. We took the car to a Honda dealer in Huston TX. They found the cause DTC P0301, a internal failure to fuel injectors. We had to pay the dealer cash $$$$. We submitted the all repair documentations to Honda and asked for a reimbursement. Honda Co should have refund this repair cost!! It's so unfair that Honda denied to cover this recall repair just because somehow our car was not in the recall list!
Driving along highway at highway speeds, the automatic braking system indicated 'BRAKE' in the center dash when there was no object in front of me. The vehicle did _not_ auto brake, but that was obviously the next step/possible if it continued to malfunction (actually brake the vehicle).
1. CMBS (front collision detection system) has malfunctioned approximately 3-4 times over the past 3 years. 2. While operating the vehicle in different settings, front-collision will incorrectly detect something in front of the car when nothing is there and apply brakes causing the car to stop suddenly and unexpectedly. The first 2 incidents occurred in my parking structure and no one was behind me. The 3rd incident occurred while driving on a surface street in Honolulu, and again no one was ahead or behind me. The final incident occurred today ([XXX] at approximately [XXX] HST). There was no one in front and a car behind me and the CMBS flashed a warning and slammed on the brakes bringing the car to a complete stop. Car behind me was forced to stop to avoid rear-end collision. 3. I took the car in for inspection after the 3rd incident last year (Pacific...
All of these warning indicator messages pop up on dash: electric parking brake problem, tire pressure monitor problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system problem, hill assist etc. My battery was changed and my system was checked but these lights still come on frequently. This has been going on for over a year.
Warning lights kept cycling thru and dinging every half second. Took it to dealer and it is a faulty front camera in the windshield. They said they see it all the time and immediately diagnosed it. Said it is a faulty design and costs ~$1,700.
Vehicle went into crash avoidance mode unexpectedly with no vehicles directly ahead. There was a vehicle beside me in an adjacent lane. I was traveling at about 40mph and had just completed a turn when the BRAKE warning appeared on the dash and the brakes were suddenly applied. The incident lasted for only a few seconds and the controls returned to normal. The problem this caused a sudden decrease in speed. Fortunately there were no cars nearby so I did not have any trouble. While returning home after a stop, the BRAKE warning light momentarily appeared on the dash, but this time the brakes were not applied. This has never happened before. There has been no inspection of the vehicle at this point by anyone. As a footnote. on 23 January, the windshield was replaced by Safelite Auto Glass who recalibrated the camera system as part of the service.
Earlier this morning, while driving in stop-and-go traffic, I attempted to accelerate once traffic ahead of me had cleared. There was no car, obstruction, etc., in front of my car for at least one car length, if not more. As I accelerated, the CMBS system suddenly kicked in, flashing BRAKE on my dash and applying the brake. My car came to a complete stop. Luckily, the person behind me had started up slowly and did NOT rear end me. I could not say with complete confidence how fast I was going, I had accelerated to maybe 10-20 mph before the issue occurred. I have not seen a dealer or service center since the incident and there was no police or insurance representatives engaged (as thankfully there was no accident).
As I was driving the vehicle suddenly braked to a complete stop in the middle of a street as I was crossing railroad tracks. I was at significant risk of being rear-ended as the car came to a complete stop without notice; there’s also risk of being run over by the train as I was stopped in the middle of the train tracks.
On now three separate occasions, the vehicle has suddenly applied emergency braking force during cruising speeds in a residential area. I have noticed the incidents seem to occur when there is plenty of sunlight and high contrasting shadows being cast down on the road ahead. I have brought this up with my local Honda dealer to which they did not show concern and turn me away saying it was just a fluke and ´´should not happen again´´. I have been lucky that there were no cars behind me as they would surely have rear ended me for suddenly braking in the middle of flowing traffic.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I AM WRITING TO INFORM YOU THAT HONDA CRV ARE BEING TARGETED FOR THE RADAR. MY RADAR HAS BEEN STOLEN 2X AND HONDA NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED. THE RADAR ARE IN FRONT OF THE CARS AND IT IS EASY TO BE STOLEN. IT IS NOT FAIR FOR PERSON TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE AND PARTS ARE BEING STOLEN. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE SURE THIS DOES NOT KEEP HAPPENING TO ME OR ANYONE ELSE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
While driving on a 4 lane highway at about 60-65 MPH the automatic brake system activated. There was no apparent reason for the brakes to be applied at that time. There was no car close to me in front of me. it only lasted about a second and only slowed the vehicle down instead of bringing it to a complete stop. The risk to me was if a car had been close behind me I might have been hit from behind. The problem has not occurred since and I have not taken it to a dealer. I noticed the dash light said BRAKE but that occurred during the braking event rather than before it. I had put RainX on my windshield before leaving home and I have questioned if that had any influence on the camera seeing through the windshield. I have applied RainX on the windshield since then but...
While traveling 35 mph, car abruptly braked itself with no approaching vehicles or obstructions. There was no warning, everything on the seat went flying forward.
Was driving on a residential street at 30 mph. Pavement was dry and clear of any road damage. No vehicle was in front of me, for at least three blocks. My car beeped repeatedly and a BRAKE warning flashed several times, followed by the vehicle automatically braking , hard enough to toss my 50 pound dogs around in the back seats, but not hard enough, long enough to stop the car. After that single application of the brakes, the audio and visual alarms stopped, the car released the brake, and I was able to drive on unimpeded. If this had occurred with another vehicle behind me, or the roads were icy, or if I were traveling at higher speeds, as on a highway, I feel the vehicle might have caused an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the brakes were inadvertently applied without being depressed and the vehicle's driver assistance technology warning was heard. The vehicle had an unknown warning light illuminated on the dash. The vehicle was driven to the contacts school and was able to restart. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 70,322.
Today traveling south after work on 3rd St. near the railroad tracks in Bismarck, North Dakota the brakes applied themselves to a complete stop with an orange BRAKE warning and beeping sound. I was traveling slowly (<20mph) in case the street was icy on the down hill slope to the Front Street traffic light. There was a pickup in front of me, but it was over a full car length away. Thankfully the car behind me was far enough back to not rear end me. We purchased The 2019 Honda CR-V Touring after leasing it for two and one half years for the advanced technology which we enjoyed having. I do not feel safe knowing this could randomly happen again.
I bought the CRV new, and it now has 31,000 miles on it and was never in an accident. On three occasions the breaks engaged without warning. There was no car in front of me and no reason for the breaks to engage. The car went into a fast slowdown form 45MPH to about 10 MPH when the breaks disengaged by themselves, and the car returned to normal. When this happened the Orange BREAK banner in the speedometer window, went on. This is obviously a very hazardous defect. If I were Highway driving, someone would have surely ran into me for stopping so suddenly without any provocation. I read somewhere Honda is aware of this and is investigating it. But I worried about using the car as it may happen at any time without warning,
Vehicle has had phantom braking and accelerations, occurrences of "Christmas tree dashboard" with all system alerts going off - have been intermittent, far between and unsure how to go about presenting to dealership or auto repair due to this - however THIS OCCURRED TODAY AND CAUSED A COLLISION/ ACCIDENT! My looking into the issue online has shown that this is a problem that many others have also had and that NHTSA has opened an investigation into it with honda! AGAIN - MY VEHICLE IS NOW DAMAGED AND I AM INJURED DUE TO THIS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION/ERROR! Today while in slow moving traffic to turn onto interstate, car started having the phantom breaking and jolting forwards out of my control. All of the system failure alerts started going off (I've been able to clear in the past by turning off and turning on car multiple times in a row and on the...
I have had my cross traffic alert come on at least 5 other times. There was no reason for it to alert. Unfortunately this time it came on while traveling on a 2 lane street going 40mph and jammed my brakes on slowing me down to almost a complete stop. Causing me to lunge forward and hurt my right hand. There was no reason for this to happen. Luckily no one was behind me or I may have been hurt seriously. I am now scared to drive my car. I have made an appointment to take my car in on Monday for repair. I do not want this car anymore and have no confidence in its safety.
The forward collision or automatic brake system engaged for no reason, Zero cars on the road. The car beeped and then came to a complete stop, luckily no vehicles were behind me or I would have been involved in a car accident. The LCD screen beeps, turns on and off, brightens appears and go and down. It won’t stop until you turn the car off. It’s happened numerous times. The backseat passenger window went down and wouldn’t go up either by backseat passenger door or driver door, heard clicking by shutting the car off it fixed it.
The car has applied the brakes with no vehicle in front of it at least twice now. Front collision sensor keeps malfunctioning Has been re-calibrated by the dealership two times in the last week vehicle has never been in any collisions or accidents. Only has 32,049 miles (Road departure management system Problem) displayed on dash first time before the first dealership recalibration then (Front radar obstruction) second trip to dealership also re-calibrated next day same alert vehicle is clean weather is nice going back to dealership for the third time
While driving the vehicle over afternoon, the vehicle flashed "BRAKE" on the console and then almost immediately slammed on the brakes without any need to. There were no cars in front of me. The metal plate that was on the road due to road maintenance appeared to have set it off. This was not the first time the car's automatic emergency braking system would warn me of nothing. Unfortunately still, it slammed on the brakes this time and could have caused an accident should there of been anyone behind me.
Phantom braking without warning - including at high speeds! Often accompanied by 'Christmas tree dashboard' with all system failure/ warnings going off.
Earlier today my brake warning light suddenly came on and my 2019 CRV suddenly slowed down. No cars were nearby on the street. I was driving just under the 40 MPH speed limit. This could have been a problem if a vehicle was behind me. A few hours later on the freeway my brake light suddenly came on again. I was driving just under the 65 MPH speed limit. No cars were nearby on the freeway. This time the car didn’t slow down.
When driving on a main road at about 45 mph, the automated braking system slammed on the brakes, slowing me down to 20mph. At this time, my foot was already on the brake as I was going through an intersection so I was slowing down. There was nothing in front of me. This happened on 8/20/2022. Thankfully there was no car behind me, otherwise I would have been rear-ended. On several other occasions, the automatic brake warning has gone off when there is no obstruction in front of the car, but this was the first time the brakes actually slowed the car down significantly.
Twice this has happened. Driving on normal city streets, approximately 35 mph, come to the metal plates on the road in construction area Nad car slams on its brakes and comes to a complete stop in traffic, almost causing an accident and scaring heck out of the occupants of the vehicle.
I was driving our car on a suburban side street, maybe going 15 MPH, and all of a sudden the car just completely to an abrupt stop and we were all jerked backwards. The dashboard displayed a rectangle that said BRAKE in all caps, which I'd never seen before. There was absolutely nothing in front of us or in our way. No dog, no person, nothing. It was like someone had pulled an emergency brake and stopped the car out of nowhere. We were OK, though my son in the backseat said the seatbelt pushed against his neck. It was really scary and unsettling.
On multiple occasions I have received a notice to brake, but there is nothing in front of me. It's even started to break a couple times. When these incidents happen, there was nothing in front of me. It was a clear lane... This has happened while adaptive cruise control is on and when it is off.
ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON DASH, BRAKES, POWERS STEERING , CRUISE CONTROL ANTI LOCK BRAKES ,LANE DEPARTURE ECT. THIS HAPPEN ON THE WAY TO WORK SHUT OFF CAR TWO DAYS REMAINED ON. ON THE WAY HOME LIGHTS WENT OUT. WAS TOLD TO BRING CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS. MADE APP AND AWAY IT WENT, APON ARRIVING TO DEALER , I EXPLANIED THATTHE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 150 DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSTICS. TOLD THEM I WAS UNDER WARRANTY WITH FULL COVERAGE, DIDNT MATTER. THEY ASKED IF CAR WAS RUNNING OK AND I REPLY YES. BUT ALITTLE CONCERNING TO HAVE ALL LIGHTS FLASHING AT SAME TIME. NEEDLESS TO SAY ONCE AGAIN LIGHTS CAME ON A MONTH LATER SAME THING WITH DEALER MAKE APPOINTMENT. I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR HONDA IT...
I was driving on a city street at around 30 mpr with no cars in front or behind me when my CRV came to sudden jerking stop and then continued forward. It was so abrupt that my head snapped forward and I slid toward the steering wheel. Luckily, no one was behind me otherwise, I would have been rear ended. This has created a great fear in driving my CRV. I still intend to contact the dealership and report directly to Honda.
3-29-2022 forward collision warning - BRAKE - showed on display in front of steering wheel. There was no vehicle in front of me for a great distance. This had not happened before but the automatic braking system has malfunctioned 2-3 times per year for the 3 years I have owned this car. I reported that to this site last week and have discussed that issue a number of times with 5 dealer employees to no avail.
DEFECT - The Forward Collision Warning and Braking system erroneously activated for no apparent reasons. On March 3, 2022, I was driving on a highway at 65 miles per hour when the Forward Collision Warning and Braking system unexpectedly activated for no apparent reasons. I had reported earlier incidents of this erroneous activation to a Dean Honda service representative who attributed the cause to interference with sensors such as snow on vehicles. I want to emphasize the following conditions at the time of the March 3 erroneous activation: (1) my car was the only car on the road, no vehicles were in front, beside or behind; (2) the road was straight; (3) no overpasses, (4) no objects or structures on both sides of the road and (5) the windshield in the vicinity of the camera, and the hood and front grill in the vicinity of the radar were clean. As...
In April or early May 2021, my wife and I were driving my CRV on Interstate 77S coming from downtown Cleveland in the afternoon. It was a sunny day and we were driving at highway speeds. All of a sudden my CRV went into an Emergency Braking condition. The car was braking was as if I slammed on the brakes full force. Luckily no cars were immediately behind us or else they would have rear-ended us. The car slowed down rapidly and drastically, but control of the car was returned to the driver before it came to a full stop. No cars were in front of us. Nothing was in the road that we could see as an obstruction or shiny object (which Honda said sometimes fools the sensor). We were approaching (maybe 100 yds away) a shadow in the road from a bridge overpass. The dealer checked the vehicle...
My car will run normally with all the safety equipment turned on. Sometimes, when I switch lanes, the car will brake and slow down possibly 10 miles per hour and cause a dangerous situation on a highway or expressway. It happens mainly when I'm on a highway and traveling at normal speed and will make the traffic behind me come closer to my car as if I'm braking. When this happens, there aren't any cars near me neither in front and to my sides. This happens about once every 2 weeks of highway travel and also when merging from an entrance ramp. My email address is [XXX] and my phone number is [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Car will randomly brake when there is nothing in front. Has happened several times.
This vehicle is NOT equipped with an automatic braking system however if I get too close to a vehicle in front I will get a visual and audio warning to BRAKE NOW. From time to time the BRAKE NOW warning will appear when there are no other vehicles in front of me.
Periodically my vehicle will abruptly slow down, propelling myself/passenger forward. I would examine the area and there is nothing moving that should have triggered it. There are no identifying factors involved, (day/night/wet/dry), it may occur at any time. I have mentioned it to the Honda service department at my local dealership. They say it will happen sometimes.
I was exiting I-490 east to I-390 north at 45 mph and suddenly my Honda CRV forcefully applied the brakes. There was no vehicle in front of me and fortunately there was no vehicle in back of me. But I remember this because it really scared me. This is the only time this has happened. I am reporting this now because of an article I read on AOL titled "Over 1.7M Hondas probed for unexpected automatic braking".
The ABS system suddenly engaged for no reason with the brakes slamming on. The system has also randomly alerted to brake for no reason with nothing but shadows in front of me. I purchased this vehicle because it happened multiple times in the 2018 CRV model I owned and the dealer I bought it from said there was nothing wrong and that it couldn’t be turned off. That vehicle stopped in the middle of a road from going 35 and again in the highway while traveling at 60 mph.
