2014 GMC TERRAIN Visibilitywiper Problems

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH in a snowstorm, the windshield wipers became inoperable. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V165000 (Visibility). The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that the recall repair could not be performed due to a Salvage Title. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the repair could be covered because the Salvage Title was not related to the windshield wipers; however, the manufacturer called the contact and informed the contact that the repair could no longer be covered due to the Salvage Title. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 149,680.

Wipers stop working In snow storm

I was driving my suv while it was raining heavily and my driver side wipers just stop working out of no where the passenger side still operates. I have not been to see if a dealer can fix it because I was unaware it was under recall so now I’m trying to find someone to fix it while under the recall.

The actuator that controls the blend door / recirculation door (moves the air from defrost to floor to vent) does not last more than a year in my vehicle. I see on the GMC Terrain forums that it is a common problem. It is a danger when defrost is needed on the windshield, and it doesn't work.

The windshield wipers suddenly stopped working when it was raining really hard last week. This caused me to almost get into a car accident because I could not see the road with all the rain. I had to stop on the side of the road until the rain stopped, which took a while. This occurred on a road where there were not many street lights, which made it even worse to see ahead. I took the vehicle to the nearest GMC dealership for diagnostics and they were not able to provide the service to repair/replace the wipers because of the recall not being complete. I currently can't drive the car when it is raining which is difficult since this is my only mode of transportation for work.

The contact stated that while her daughter was driving in the rain the windshield wipers became inoperable. Additionally, the headlights were dim. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the wiper motor and motor assembly were replaced. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. 73,101. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Headlights- melted plug causing fire damage on both headlights, replaced with new headlights and bulbs as well as a new wire harness plug. Was driving smelt smoke/wires burning. Wipers- stop preforming during rain storm Southeastern NC on hwy 701 south on 3-24-22. And still does not work. Maybe be associated with older model terrain recall. Same happen to this model.

Using wipers and the just quit working and I couldn’t see the road and had to pull over to avoid a crash

The ball joint on the windshield wipers failed (mid rain storm on the highway) causing the wipers to fail. There is a recall for this issue on 2013 GMC Terrains, but not on any other model years. The vehicle is being repaired at a dealership for $650CAD, can upload invoice if needed after completion. The part is available for inspection. Not being able to see at night, on the highway and in a rainstorm put not only myself and passenger at risk, but also all the vehicles travelling on the highway with me. The part has not been inspected by anyone except a GM mechanic. No warning at all prior to this failure.

Windshield wipers stopped working during heavy rainfall. No warning signs, were working fine, and then just stopped. Fortunately I was traveling at a manageable rate of speed given the weather conditions & lack of daylight. Appears this is a known issue for multiple GMC models.

During a rainstorm the wiper blades became stuck after regular use. It was then discovered by a technician the transmission/linkage arm (plastic) broke off and possible windshield wiper motor failure. No warning signs were given to anticipate this failure.

While driving on a major North Carolina highway at the posted speed limit of 65mph during a rain storm the windshield wipers stopped and froze in the middle of the windshield. The wipers would not operate at all and necessitated attempting to move from the middle lane to the berm with no visibility. This was a danger to other vehicles in the right lane and to the vehicle being driven. I pulled off the highway and waited until it stopped raining. Vehicle was then driven to the nearest exit and closest repair shop, which was a tire and repair shop. The manager said the vehicle has had recalls for the wiper motor and said to bring it to an authorized GMC dealer. This has not occurred to date as the weather is not clear. No other warnings, lights, or indicators occurred prior to the wiper motor failure.

I was driving to physical therapy when a heavy downpour started. I had the wipers going full speed and still could barely see the road, when all of a sudden both wipers just stopped in the middle of the windshield and would not work. I could hear the motor still running and spinning, but the wipers wouldn’t move. I had it looked at and the wiper linkage arm had popped off and the ball joints and sockets are all worn out.

THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. LOSING OIL QUICKLY AND NO LEAK. WIPER MOTOR SHOT. 90K MILES ON VEHICLE

On 7/30/21 was driving on freeway going about 60mph in a heavy rainstorm when wiper blades suddenly stopped working in the middle of my windshield. Nearly crashed the car due to extremely poor visibility. This was a horrifying and dangerous safety issue. Had to pull over to side of the road out of traffic and wait for the rain to stop. I was in the middle of an 8 hour road trip and still had 4 hours of driving to go. Upon investigation when turning the blades on you can hear the motor working but no movement of the blades. Thankfully no one got hurt in this event. This happened shortly after hitting 100k miles.

Driving and there was a thump and the right windshield wiper arm came to a stop in the middle of my windshield and would no longer work during a downpour.

On an extremely rainy day, the windshield wipers stopped working. My son was driving the car, and his safety was extremely compromised. He could not see out the windshield at all, and he was lucky that he was in a position to get to the side of the road without incident. If he were on a highway, it would have been extremely dangerous. This occurred on July 8th, 2021. There were no warnings that precipitated the problem. The wipers were working fine. We went to our mechanic who had to replace the entire windshield wiper mechanism due to corroded joints. We paid approximately $260. The mechanic said this is a very common problem with GM wipers. We did not keep the damaged part... we did not know that this was a safety issue with other model GMC Terrains until today. Clearly, it is a widespread problem, and there should be...

I was driving to work during a rain storm. I drove for about 25 minutes until I reached the highway. I merged onto the highway behind a tractor trailer. There was enough spray that I needed to put the wipers on high speed. After driving for a few minutes the wipers came down and stopped halfway. I was able to pull over on the shoulder and tried to determine what happen. I turned wipers off and on and could hear the wiper motor whirring. Motor worked but wipers did not engage. I got out of the vehicle and pushed the wipers down and they moved freely telling me they are not connected to the motor. This was very dangerous and scary! I am now in need of repairing this issue.

While driving in a rainstorm, the wipers stopped working. This caused my visibility to suddenly become extremely compromised. A tractor trailer was in front of me and spraying water from the tires due to heavy rain as well. I had to pull over, under an over pass, and wait out the rain. This is extremely dangerous in of itself to be on the side of a major highway. I have since investigated and found the ball joint connection to the wiper arm corroded and broke off. The wiper motor still runs. This is identical to the 2013 GMC terrain issue.

While driving in the rain, my windshield wipers just stopped working while in an upright position on the windshield. Not only could I not see due to the rain, the wipers were actually blocking my view as well. They now will not turn on at all.

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. LITERALLY ALMOST DIED WITH MY SON IN THIS VEHICLE, AS WE WE'RE DRIVING BACK HOME ON THE INTERSTATE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY FOR SUNDAY EVENING DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RAIN THAT WAS FALLING. IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS DRIVE THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING, THEY STOPPED IN THE UPWARD POSITIONS. WHICH ADDED TO THE DIFFICULTY OF VISIBILITY AS I PUT MY HAZARDS AND PLAY THAT WE WOULDN'T GET HIT OR THAT I WOULDN'T HIT ANYTHING. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND FIDDLED WITH THE WIPERS TO TRY TO GET THEM TO WORK-AGAIN AND DIDN'T HAPPEN WE HAD TO STAY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UNTIL THE RAIN SUBSIDED A BIT TO MAKE IT HOME IT WAS HORRIFYING. AS BEING IN FLORIDA IT RAINS A LOT AND HEAVY WE STILL HAD A LONG TRIP AHEAD OF US TO GET HOME. I DID REACH OUT TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS AND...

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I75 YESTERDAY OCTOBER 29TH 2020 DURING HEAVY RAIN THE WIPERS WERE ON AND WORKING, AS SOON AS I TURN THE WIPER SPEED TO A FASTER ROTATION ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE WIPERS JUST STOPPED WORKING AND WAS HARD TO SEE ANYTHING. THE NEXT MORNING I CHECKED ALL FUSES AND MOTOR, WHEN I TURN THE WIPER ON THE MOTOR STILL MADE NOISE. I TOOK THE WIPER ASSEMBLY APART AND GOT INTO THE WIPER LINKAGE AND SAW IT HAD CAME APART, I PUT IT BACK ON AND TURN ON THE WIPER AND IT CAME RIGHT OFF, LOOKS LIKE THE LINK AND BUSHING IS RUSTED AND NEEDS REPLACED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S A PRETTY COMMON WITH THE TERRAINS AND EQUINOX. THIS IS AN DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND GET IT FIX FOR ITS CUSTOMERS.

OWN 2014 GMC TERRAIN WITH 56K MILES ON IT, HAVE HAD THE CAR TWO YEARS AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES. FIRST INCIDENT, WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN RAIN WIPERS JUST SHIFT OFF. ALMOST WRECKED TRYING PULL OFF SIDE OF THE ROAD. COST $300 FOR NEW MOTOR. 2ND ISSUE HAD TO HAVE A SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE CAR BURNED EXCESSIVE OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, WITH NO INDICATION OF LOW OIL. FRIED THE SENSOR. 3RD ISSUE, A REPEAT OF THE 2ND CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED ON HIGHWAY, STABILTRAK LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SPEEDOMETER STOPPED IMMEDIATELY, I CHECKED OIL. WASN'T BONE DRY. DROVE IT STRAIGHT HOME AND WAS IN EVEN WORSE CONDITION REVERSING INTO DRIVEWAY. THE OIL EXPLODED ALL OVER DRIVEWAY, HAD IT TOWED TO PRIVATE MECHANIC. NOW I HAVE TO PUT A WHOLE NEW ENGINE IN BECAUSE GM IS NEGLIGENT WITH ISSUING RECALLS. OIL WAS LEAKING FROM...

WHEN I LEFT WORK YESTERDAY EVENING IT WAS DARK AND RAINING OUTSIDE, AND NATURALLY, I TURNED ON MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS. ABOUT FIVE MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE HOME, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED OPERATING. I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING AHEAD OF ME, BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING PRETTY HARD AT THAT POINT AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DARK ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE APPROACHING PRETTY FAST. I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON, AND CROSSED THREE LANES TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAITED, APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, FOR THE RAIN TO STOP, BUT IT NEVER DID. I WAS ABOUT 1/2 MILE AWAY FROM MY EXIT, SO I INCHED MY WAY THERE, WHILE DRIVING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I MADE IT TO A NEARBY GAS STATION AND WAITED AN HOUR FOR THE RAIN TO DIE DOWN....

WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 S IN KENTUCKY DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED IN FILED GOAL POSITION MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SEE. I HAD TO CAREFULLY PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I TRIED REPLACING THE FUSE, TO NO AVAIL. I ATTEMPTED TO USE RAINEX TO IMPROVE VISIBILITY BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP MUCH. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE $125 TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I COULD'VE BEEN KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY .THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO THIS RECURRING ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL

WHILE DRIVING TO NIAGARA WITH MY SON ON THE MASS PIKE, MY WIPERS JUST STOPPED WORKING . IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY FOR THE LAST 2 HOURS OF THE TRIP AND IT WAS HARROWING , STRESSFUL AND UNSAFE . WE COULD NOT FIND AN OPEN GARAGE TO FIX THE PROBLEM . THE GUY AT REST STOP TRIED TO REPLACE THE FUSE BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK . IT NEEDED A NEW MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION WHICH COST ME $562.42, INCLUDING CAR LOAN FOR $29.95 SO I COULD GO TO WORK . I HAVE READ SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2014 TERRAIN .

WHEN YOU TURN ON THE WIPERS ABOVE THE FIRST CLICK THEY DETACH FROM THE WIPER ARM AND QUIT WORKING. EVERYTHING HAS TO BE TORN APART TO REASSEMBLE. IT'S HAPPENED IN MOTION AND STATIONARY. IT'S HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. CAN'T DRIVE IT WHEN IT RAINS.

I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH WHILE USING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND THEY STOPPED WHEN STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN (12 O'CLOCK). THE WIPERS ARE VERY EASY TO MOVE BY HAND.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN AND WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THEY WERE STUCK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. I GOT OFF THE ROAD AND MOVED THEM PHYSICALLY DOWN OUT OF MY VIEW. THEY THEN WOULD NOT TURN ON. I CAN HEAR THE MOTOR TURNING BUT THE WIPERS DO NOT MOVE.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A THUNDERSTORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHICH FORCED ME TO PULL OVER BECAUSE OF NO VIABILITY! I HAD TO WIATBFOR THE RAIN TO STOP IN ORDER TO MAKE IT HOME. HAVE REPLACED FUSE AND THEY ARE STILL NOT WORKING! WAS TOLD THAT THE MOTOR MAY HAVE FAILED AND WOULD COST AROUND 300 TO 400 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WIPERS ARE STILL NOT WORKING AS I AM UNABLE TO AFFORD REPAIR COST.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THIS MORNING DURING A STORM, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING AND WAS WORRIED I WAS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF TO THE NEAREST EXIT TO CHECK MY WIPERS. THE WIPERS WOULDN'T WORK BUT I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR WORKING. WHEN I FINALLY MADE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE, I CHECKED ON THIS AND FOUND THAT OLDER TERRAINS WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE WITH WIPER BLADES BEING FAULTY.

I RECEIVED A DOCUMENT DATED DEC 2019 REGARDING A CONDITION WHERE A LINK BALL SOCKET IN THE WIPER TRANSMISSION MAY SEPARATE CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. IT IS NOT BEING HANDLED AS A RECALL WHICH I THINK IT SHOULD BE. ONLY VEHICLES WHICH EXPERIENCE THIS FAILURE WILL BE REPAIRED. THIS APPEARS TO BE MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE THAN AN ADVISORY AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A RECALL OR BE DONE FOR FREE AT THE OWNERS REQUEST. I CONTACTED PATRIOT GMC IN BOYERTOWN AND ASKED THAT THE REPAIR BE DONE UNDER THE ADVISORY NOTICE AS A COURTESY BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK.

AS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED HERE MY WIPER TRANSMISSION/LINKAGE HAS FAILED ALSO BUT JUST WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER HAVING REPLACED IT JUST LAST YEAR WITH NEW REPLACEMENT ONE. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND IT WAS SNOWING PARTIAL CITY STREET AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. LAST YEAR WHEN IT FAILED IT WAS RAINING ON MY WAY HOME ON HIGHWAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS HAS FAILED FOR A SECOND TIME AND NO MANUFACTURING DESIGN UPGRADE HAS BEEN DONE BY GM TO RECTIFY THIS CONTINUAL FAILURE.

AS SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVE REPORTED RECENTLY, WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN A RAINSTORM. I TRIED CHANGING THE FUSE SINCE BUT NO CHANGE. I CAN HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING WHEN SWITCHING TO THE ON POSITION BUT NO RESPONSE AT ALL FROM EITHER WIPE.

WIPERS STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF FUNCTIONING PROPERLY ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF A RAIN STORM. CHECKED FUSE & RELAY - ALL HAVE POWER. REGULATOR BROKEN.

WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN ON CITY STREETS MY WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT HAVING A WRECK AND WAS CLOSE TO A GMC DEALERSHIP. I DROVE VERY SLOW WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE THERE. THIS IS A SATURDAY AND WILL NOT HEAR FROM THEM UNTIL MONDAY AS TO THE REPAIR.

WE BOUGHT OUR TERRAIN BRAND NEW IN 2014, I HAVE REPLACED THE LINKAGE ONCE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND NOW THE WIPERS DO NOT WORK AGAIN. OUR TRANSMISSION IS GOING AND WE JUST GOT OUT OF 5 YEAR WARRANTY. SO DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED WITH THIS VEHICLE

I WAS DRIVING OUR VEHICLE ON 8/28/2019 AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING DURING A DOWNPOUR. LUCKILY WE HAD GOTTEN OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, WERE CLOSE TO HOME, AND WERE ABLE TO SLOWLY MAKE IT HOME, BUT HAD THE FAILURE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. TOOK THE CAR TO OUR MARTYS BUICK/GMC IN KINGSTON, MA AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THE WIPER MODULE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY HAD FAILED AND WE HAVE TO VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR ROUGHLY $400. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED AND RECALLS ISSUED IN CANADA FROM THIS MAKE, YEAR, AND MODEL VEHICLE. NO SO IN THE US. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED.

DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY THIS PAST WEEK DURING A RAIN STORM, MY WIPER BLADES SUDDENLY SLIPPED OFF THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WOULD NO LONGER MOVE. THEY BECAME STUCK LEANING OVER THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. I TRIED TO PUSH THEM BACK BUT THEY WOULD NOT MOVE. I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR BUT THEY WERE IN A SET POSITION. I HAD TO GO TO AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE WIPER TRANSMISSION REPLACED.U

WHILE DRIVING IN A HEAVY DOWNPOUR ON I-71 IN CLEVELAND, OHIO, MY WIPERS STOPPED SUDDENLY. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY FOR SEVERAL HOURS UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED IN ORDER TO CONTINUE ON. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH ESPECIALLY DUE TO THE LOCATION, RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND SPEED (60MPH). UP TO THIS POINT, I HAVE HAD ZERO ISSUES AND INDICATIONS THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I WAS DIVING DOWN GRATIOT STREET IN SAGINAW MICHIGAN, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPER DECIDED TO STOP WORKING COMPLETELY. I LOST ALL VISIBILITY AND HAD PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHILE SITTING IN MY CAR WAITING FOR THE RAIN TO STOP I REALIZE THAT MY WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS STILL WORKING, BECAUSE I COULD HEAR IT MOVING BACK AND FORTH. BUT MY WIPERS WERE NOT. I HAVE READ THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH SOME OF THE HARD WEAR AND A LOT OF PRIOR YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IN THIS CAR, NOW ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THIS CAR WITH IT FAULTY EQUIPMENT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE ME MY LIFE... I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANYONE.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY YESTERDAY IN HEAVY RAIN, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE, BESIDE A SEMI, AND SUDDENLY I HAD ALMOST ZERO VISIBILITY!!! I MANAGED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED, BUT NOT WITHOUT ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK THAT WOULD HAVE INVOLVED SEVERAL VEHICLES. WHILE SITTING THERE WAITING FOR IT TO QUIT RAINING, I BEGAN TO RESEARCH WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE. I WAS BEYOND UPSET TO FIND OUT THAT THIS EXACT ISSUE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED TO YOUR AGENCY MORE THAN 20 TIMES! FURTHER, THESE DEFECTIVE WIPER ASSEMBLIES HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED IN CANADA BECAUSE THEY POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!!! IT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND NEGLIGENT TO NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE CORRECTED.
