Power steering stops working while driving, even at highway speeds. Happens repeatedly.
While driving, a warning message appears in my dash and then the power steering immediately becomes inoperable. The traction control warning also appears in the instrument panel. Found that turning it off and on on would reset it but it’s now a constant warning message. I took the truck to a local dealership with no resolve. They claim there is a recall on the year/make/model for my vehicle but that my trucks VIN “doesn’t qualify “. (Recall N202325410). I don’t understand why I am excluded from a safety recall. The dealership did a diagnostic test and a test drive but at the time the PS was working properly so they dismissed me. Fast forward a few more days and the PS goes again, this time I take it straight back to the dealership, issue active. Again, they scan the truck and proceed to tell me they can’t help me. No...
Power steering fails randomly when turning both left and right
The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the power steering became inoperable. The steering wheel was difficult to turn. The power stabilizing, drive safely message was displayed. The contact restarted the vehicle and the power steering operated as designed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering). The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
Power steering assist failed several times over a course of a week, both city and highway speeds. Took vehicle to dealer and was told there's no recall associated with my vehicle's VIN, wants to schedule a diagnostic inspection for $170, and see if tte technician can find any issues with tge electrical power steering assist. I found a recall on this very issue, but according to the GM dealer service department it doesn't apply to my VIN. I believe my VIN is affected by this recall.
Without any warning, loss of power steering and the stabilitrak light comes on. This happens going 5 mph in a parking lot or 65 mph on the freeway. Causing loss of power steering making it hard to control the truck. I see there has been recalls on the power steering issues but my truck falls just outside the window. I feel that this recall should be for all trucks that have the issue, major safety issue when traveling with kids in the truck.
There are times while I am driving that I will get a message pop up on the screen that say “ service steering system soon, drive with care” then the vehicle becomes incredibly hard to turn. Usually I can ease my self to the side of the road and shut down the truck and turn it back on and then everything is reset until it comes on again. I dont see any kind of correlation as to what causes it to do this, not the weather, conditions, speed, temperature, or altitude. The last time I was on the highway going 70 mph and the road separated directions and the message popped up and I had no steering assist and almost hit the guard rail trying to make the turn. I understand that their was a recall on this and mine had the service performed but now it is actually doing...
Power steering failure at both low speed and highway speed. This week it failed 4 times making unexpected move ability dangerous. Display chimed then displayed power steering failure, followed by stability and traction control displaying. Then stating service ASAP. 1st time it failed at 35 MPH on a straight street. Then within 10 minutes it failed on a left hand turn. The third time was the next day at highway speed of 65 MPH. The 4th time was today at 45 MPH. I researched this failure and it appears theirs a recall by GM that began in 2021.
While driving at a slower speed the power steering stopped working and the warning lights on my dashboard came on.
2015 GMC Canyon steering assist has quit working while driving on multiple occasions. Received Safety Recall to repair affected steering component short. Took GMC Canyon to Parks GMC, 2640 Laurens Rd. 29607 for repair. Service department called and said they updated program in control module to keep the power assist from reengaging if the short occurs while driving and truck is ready. What?? I need to steering fixed!! When the steering goes out it has happened unexpectedly and the truck is almost uncontrollable on multiple occasions. The recall says you will replace the steering gear torque sensor cover and the service will be performed for you at no charge. The service guy regrouped and called me back and said that they would make the safety recall repair for $475.00. What?? There is no fine print anywhere where on the recall letter where it states there is a $475.00 surcharge in...

the system failure is the power steering control module rack and components The safety risk is loss of power steering assist, no traction control, StabiliTrak message on dash, abs and traction control lights is on, don't feel safe to drive. The problem is confirmed by a dealer. The component has not been inspected. Yes, there are warning messages on the dash, and they appear in February 2022. A loss or reduction in power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash. In my opinion, this issue has to be solved and fixed by the dealer at no cost to the customer.
Power steering failure and stabilitrak. Stopped and turned off ignition for a few seconds. Power steering started working but stabilitrak light is still on and steering feels a little loose.

While driving the vehicle, the power steering suddenly went out. My teenage son was driving and luckily he's had training on this in Driver's Ed or it could have caused a major accident. It has since happened to me while on the freeway and while going up our driveway. I took it into the dealership where I purchased it and they could find nothing wrong, but clearly something is wrong with the wire harness or power steering. I suspect the parts used were part of an earlier recall on GMC Canyon's as the recall ended with vehicles only a month older than mine.

The vehicle's power steering assist failed, so while driving down the highway the warning msg came on with the msg : service power steering drive with care and then it switches to service stabili trak. The vehicle becomes very hard to steer, and it happens often. It started happening around 80000 miles. We might drive it for a couple of days and it doesnt happen at all, then out of no where it will happen multiple times in the same day. It has been checked out by a dealership in Broken Arrow OK, there is no error codes that show up when a diagnostics test was ran. I have notified GM customer service but they basically said they couldn't help me if it didn't show a code.

I WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN THE GIANT EAGLE PARKING LOT AND THE POWER ASSIST FOR THE STEERING STOPPED WORKING. A NOTICE CAME ON THE DASHBOARD SCREEN INDICATING THE SAME AND STATED THAT THIS MALFUNCTION COULD CAUSE A CRASH. I STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE NOTICE ON THE DASHBOARD WENT AWAY AND THE STEERING POWER ASSIST FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I DROVE THE CAR FOR A WEEK WITHOUT RECURRENCE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE GMC DEALERSHIP AND AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE THEY CONCLUDED THAT THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM SINCE THE STEERING WAS OPERATING PROPERLY. I HAD INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE NHSTA REFERENCE #S 15595 AND 16V054000 COVERING A POTENTIAL STEERING ASSIST FAILURE BUT WAS TOLD THAT THESE RECALL NOTICES DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO BRING THE CAR IN...

THE POWER STEERING KEEPS TURNING OFF. HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES OVER THE FEW YEARS I'VE OWNED IT. IT'S TURNED OF BEING STATIONARY AND DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY
EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT MY VIN NUMBER, [XXX], DOES NOT FALL INTO THE PARAMETERS FOR THE RECALL. PRESENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS AT HENRY BROWN BUICK GMC IN GILBERT, ARIZONA. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION! THE RECALL MUST BE EXPANDED! POWER STEERING WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES AS I WAS DRIVING
IN THE LAST WEEK MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT 5 TIMES ON MY 2015 GMC CANYON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT WITH RACK AND PINION FAILURE. I RESEARCH THIS AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS AND GMC REFUSES TO RECALL. AND FIX IT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT ALL. P PLEAS HELP AS IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND A HAZARD.

UPON START UP, POWER STEERING HAS FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES MAKING STEERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. IT HAS ALSO OCCURED ONCE WHILE IN MOTION, THANK GOODNESS AT A SLOW SPEED. AN ALERT MESSAGE WILL POP-UP ON MY DASH THAT SAYS "POWER STEERING FAILURE". I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A OPEN INVESTIGATION REGARDING THIS KNOWN ISSUE. LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, THUS SAID NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS GIVES ME GRAVE CONCERN THAT IT WILL OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED RATE, AND THAT SOMEONE IN THE VEHICLE, OR ANOTHER VEHICLE WILL GET SERIOUSLY HURT. MILEAGE ON VEHICLE IS 44,000 MILES
APRIL 13, 2018 STEERING WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING DEALER FIXED, JANUARY 27, 2021 STEERING WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING DEALER SAID IT WAS BATTERY THEY INSTALLED NEW BATTERY. FEBRUARY 6, 2021 STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AGAIN TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER WHO KEPT VEHICLE AND WILL CALL ME!?
I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 AND STEERING WENT OUT VERY DANGEROUS STABILIZER WARNING ON DASH I PULLED OVER TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO GET HOME THEN TOOK TO DEALER. THIS HAPPENED IN 2018 AND WAS REPAIRED AT MY COST AT DEALERSHIP AND THE SAME HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY 1/26/2021 !
SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING THEN STABILITRAK ACTIVATED AND TRUCK STARTED VEERING LEFT. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. WHEN VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED POWER STEERING RETURNED FOR APPROXIMATELY A MILE. DURING THAT MILE TEST RUN STABILITRAK WAS ON AND VEHICLE WAS STILL VEERING LEFT.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST STOPPED WORKING ON A CITY STREET. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE SECOND INCIDENCE HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY.
POWER STEERING ASSIST SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING ON NORMAL.
I WAS MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN IN TOWN WHEN THE POWER STEERING QUIT ALMOST HITTING A CAR THAT WAS SITTING AT THE INTERSECTION. I KEPT DRIVING LIKE A LOG WAGON UNTIL I GOT HOME. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND THEN BACK ON WHICH SEEMED TO UNLOCK THE STEERING WHEEL. BUT NOW EVERY TIME I DRIVE THIS TRUCK IT AVERAGES AT LEAST 2 TO 3 TIME SHUTTING THE STEERING DOWN. IT STARTED AT 34500 MILES. I CALLED EVERYONE I CAN THINK OF TO SEE IF THEY KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO FIX IT. NO LUCK.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, ALARMS AND DISPLAY MESSAGES APPEARED INDICATING THAT MY STABILITRACK AND POWER STEERING WERE OUT. I DID IN FACT LOSE POWER STEERING AND HAD TO DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES BEFORE I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER. ONCE I PULLED OVER, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND I REGAINED POWER STEERING. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2016; HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DESPITE IT HAVING A BUILD DATE OF MARCH 2015.
SEVERAL TIMES OVER PAST MONTH AND TIME SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE . THE POWER STEERING MODULE WILL GO OUT DURING DRIVING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS POWER STEERING IS LOST AND I RECEIVE WARNING CHIME AND AM NOT ABLE TO STEER PROPERLY. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH. GM IS OFFERING NO HELP BECAUSE MY VEHICLE VIN DOES NOT SHOW UP UNDER THE RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN LINE AT A DRIVE THRU RESTAURANT, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. AN UNKNOWN MESSAGE WAS ALSO DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO THE STEER THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BENTLEY BUICK GMC (2120 DRAKE AVE SW, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35805) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE NEEDED BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST MAKING THE VEHICLE HARD TO OPERATE AND STEER. LOOKING BACK ON THE RECORDS, ON 09/21/2015 A SERVICE BULLETIN CAME OUT, "LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST EXPIRES WITH BASE WARRANTY" ON 10/28/2015 FIELD ACTION RECALL, POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING WITH SPS. DEALER STATES $1450 TO FIX. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. CALLED GM, THEY SAID THAT THIS IS NO LONGER COVERED. THIS IS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. 10
POWER STEERING AND STABILITRAK INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT. HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AND ALSO WHILE TURNING. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC NEARBY WHILE TURNING. IT DOES SO WITHOUT WARNING AND WILL RESET AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF (SOMETIMES TAKES MORE THAN ONE TRY). I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT ONLY ON VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN CERTAIN DATES. UNFORTUNATELY MY VEHICLE FALLS OUTSIDE THE RECALL PARAMETERS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT GMC NEEDS TO ADDRESS
TRUCK LOSES STEERING ASSIST WITHOUT WARNING GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANY SPEED
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. FREQUENCY OF LOSS IS INCREASING. EXPERIENCED THIS EFFECT 6 TO 10 TIMES IN LAST 3 MONTHS. CAN HAPPEN IN TOWN OR INTERSTATE DRIVING. DEALER SAYS NO RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR UNIT.
