While driving steering suddenly stopped working. Red light came up onto dash stating "steering down safely pull over"
I’m writing about my 2015 Ford Focus (VIN: [XXX] ), which has under 38,500 miles. While heading to work, I suddenly lost power steering—no warning, just stiff steering out of nowhere. The repair cost me over $5,000 to replace the electric power steering rack, which only a Ford dealer could handle due to software restrictions. This follows a TCM replacement that Ford covered under recall. I contacted Ford for goodwill assistance, but they refused. At this mileage, these failures are unacceptable. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering default on the dashboard and I can’t drive steering is too stiff , hard to turn
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while attempting to turn the steering wheel, the steering wheel was sticking and jerked abnormally, making it more difficult to maneuver the vehicle. The contact experienced resistance while turning the steering wheel to the left or the right. The contact stated that there was a rubbing, grinding, and scratching sound coming from the steering wheel. The contact stated that the jerking had gotten progressively worse and occurred while accelerating from being idle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering gear and rack and pinion had failed. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V514000 (Steering); that was related to the 2014 model vehicles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure....
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an abnormal sound while turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed rack and pinion. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel seized momentarily, due to a sudden loss of power steering functionality, causing the vehicle to cross over to the other side of the road, eventually stopping in a patch of grass on the side of the road. The contact continued to drive the vehicle with manual steering. The dealer was contacted and informed of the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not under recall for the steering. The contact used a diagnostic tool and retrieved a power steering fault code. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
I was driving on the freeway approaching a curve at about 45mph when I first experienced the wheel locking up. As I was trying to cut the wheel to the right, the steering wouldn't allow me to turn any further. Upon noticing this I immediately hit my breaks to avoid slamming into the median and hit the hazards lights to avoid have a rear end collision with the many cars driving behind me. Extremely terrifying experience and thankfully I avoided collision by acting fast, however someone else may not be as quick to avoid a potentially fatal event. Someone could have died, I could have died by losing the ability to control my steering. I thank god that total steering loss didn't happen while I was doing 60mph, I can only imagine how differently this could've ended. No lights or warnings popped up while that happened until I got off...
Power Steering loss of function.. Power steering module and motor failure.. Inoperable Steering Rack.. This is a documented problem in the 2014 Focus models, why not the 2015 Focus models.. My Power Steering is dead, my Steering Rack is Inoperable, and my Power Steering Module and Motor are dead.. My problems started happening in January 2024
I own a 2015 Ford Focus with 69,071 miles - low mileage. It's driven lightly. A couple of months ago, I was driving when suddenly the power steering went out and was extremely difficult to drive and manuever the vehicle. I went to the local dealership to schedule repairs and their computers were out so I couldn't even make an appt. So, I called Ford Motor Company about the power steering going out suddenly on my vehicle while driving to determine if my 2015 Ford Focus was covered for this repair in their current Ford Focus power steering recalls after finding thousands of cases reported for the exact same thing on 2010 - 2015 Ford Focus vehicles. I discovered that my vehicle is not included in the recalls. This is a very dangerous issue that Ford should take responsibility for the safety of their consumers and families who drive their...
I have discovered this is a very common problem and should be recalled immediately. I bought this ford focus with 50k miles on it and the electrical power steering unit went out within 4 months. i have been driving it this way for 7 months. due to lack of grease or perhaps even lack of an engineered gasket, I believe water has gotten into my system and fried the electronics. this seems to be the most common problem with these electric power steering racks. i see several other models of this car recalled for this problem, why not mine? I'm already overpaying I shouldn't have to pay $1600 to fix this issue. I believe an immediate recall is in order based on how many thousands of people have the same problem as me and are out here driving without power steering.
UNKNOWN. Power steering assist fault message appeared. After driving the car on the road and stopping to fuel up and turning off the car the error message appeared. The power steering was not working making the steering wheel hard to turn. No warnings or errors prior and as well no error codes found via OBD reader. Safety was put at risk as I was not able to turn the wheel when trying to take off after stopping. Several people have complained online already about this same issue.
Now making a loud winding noise when I drive and turn.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering became inoperable. The contact stated that the steering wheel had seized. The contact stated that the failure occurred during freezing temperature; however, after approximately 45 minutes, the vehicle warmed up and regained power steering functionality. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000. The VIN was unavailable.
A warning saying steering assist failure appeared after which I couldn't turn the wheel more than 10 to 15 ° in either direction. I pulled over on the shoulder and 30 minutes later, the check message had disappeared the steering worked fine.
Start the vehicle, put it in reverse, stop and change gears to drive and the vehicle will not move forward the steering wheel jerks. I have to put the car in park turn off the engine and then power back on and try again.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with steering rack failure. The mechanic informed the contact that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
My vehicle began making loud rubbing noises when turning and then in addition, progressed to having trouble steering. I took it to a shop that advised me that I needed a new rack and pinion steering system. I took the vehicle home and when I went to get return to the garage to have it replaced, the car would not turn at all except with extreme force; I had to have it towed. I had to pay for an entire new rack and pinion steering (and labor) and for the front end to be aligned after. I checked and even though there are numerous complaints, there is no recall.
I was driving home from work when I got a "steering fault" notification, followed by very limited control over my vehicle's steering system. I was going between 55-65 miles, as I was on an expressway, and came very close to colliding with other vehicles on multiple occasions. I was able to make it home and then when I went to drive it to the shop for repairs, I received the "steering loss" notification and I could no longer move my vehicle. There are quite a few noted complaints about Ford's power steering assist failing with the Focus and many other models.
I started to notice a rubbing sound when I would turn the steering wheel. I also noticed when I turned the wheel to the right, there was a slight hesitating resistance. A week later, I was going down the highway about 70 mph, when a warning message popped up “power steering fault”. At that moment, the steering completely lost power and it was difficult to steer. Going at that speed on a busy highway was very dangerous. Without any power steering, in heavy traffic, I had to manually steer my way from the speed lane to the right outer lane to take the exit. I had to cancel mission, turn around and go back home, hoping to get back safely. I was put at risk and so were other folks on the road, that day. I haven't taken my car for repair yet.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the power steering assist failed, and the steering wheel locked up. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with electric power steering module failure. The electric power steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
The steering assist on on our 2015 Ford Focus failed at 35,000 miles as I was backing out of the driveway. The steering fault was indicated on the dashboard and the car became very difficult to steer. Had I been driving on the street or expressway this very well could have resulted in a serious or even fatal accident. I checked with the dealer to see if a Ford safety recall had been issued. There was no safety recall on this year Focus. Sure seems like Ford should issue a safety recall regarding this issue since there is one for the 2014 Ford Focus and other Ford cars. It is the same steering assist unit. The car was undrivable, of course, and the local authorized Ford dealer charged me $2,470 to replace the steering gear. It was in the shop for more than a week. My wife and I are...
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the steering box started making a grinding sound. The vehicle became difficult to steer. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated he was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer and it was diagnosed with the steering box needing to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was 72,254.
- power steering system, steering assembly - the power steering stopped working suddenly - yes, both a Ford dealer and an independent mechanic saw the failure code on the computer - steering fault light flashes on the dashboard at the same time as the issue happens
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE STEERING FAULT MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT WATCHED A VIDEO OF HOW TO REPAIR OR ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO FRACTURE IN THE FUSE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUSE AND THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED THE STEERING LOSS DRIVE SAFELY MESSAGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND REPLACED THE FUSE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,082.*DT THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HIM THE BOLTS HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL ON BROKE...
I WAS SOLD A 2015 FORD FOCUS SE SEDAN FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP. I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE ON GOING LAWSUIT. TELL THE YEAR AFTER WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO ACT UP. NOW AS OF 11/14/20 THE STEERING ASSIT WHICH IS ELECTRIC STOP WORKING IN MID DRIVE. AND IT HARD TO STEER THE CAR. AFTER CHECKING THE WEB ABOUT THIS I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A MASSIVE RECALL ON THE FOCUS'S FOR THE STEERING ASSIT. THE DEALER SERVICE GUY IS TELLING ME THERE WAS NO RECALL. I FOUND ON LINE TONIGHT THAT THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS STATES THAT THE RECALL STAYS OPEN FOR EIGHT YEARS. IT'S ONLY BEEN 5 YRS. SINCE THE CALL WAS BUILT. THE SERVICE GUYS WANT 2,200.00 THE REPLACE THE STEERING ASSIT. I DON'T GET THAT MUCH ON DISABILITY. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME.
AFTER DRIVING HOME FROM VISITING EXTENDED FAMILY, MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME INCREASINGLY STICKY, CAUSING IT TO BE SLIGHTLY JERKY WHILST ATTEMPTING TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT PATH. MY VEHICLE WAS STILL IN MOTION WHEN I INITIALLY DISCOVERED THE DIFFICULTY. NO INDICATION LIGHTS CAME ON. AS THE WEEKS PASSED BY, IT WOULD GO IN AND OUT OF BEING STICKY AND THEN BACK TO NORMAL STEERING WHILE DRIVING. ONE NIGHT ON MY RETURN TRIP HOME FROM WORK, TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT. AN INFORMATION LIGHT CAME ON EXPLAINING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH STEERING AND TO HAVE IT SERVICED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS APPEARED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. WHEN MY GRANDFATHER WENT TO GO CHECK IT OUT AND DRIVE IT AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG, THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND A WARNING NOTIFICATION APPEARED SAYING THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST, SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. THE...
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD FOCUS 2015 AND THE STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF AND THE CAR TURNED OFF AND I GOT OUT EATE MESSAGE STEERING LOSS
STEERING SEIZED UP AT 70K MILES. ELEC. RACK & PINION NEEDS REPLACING $2800! THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT 70K MILES - EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE TO FIX ON A 5 YR OLD CAR. TRANSMISSION STUTTERS - WAS RECALLED, "FIXED" AND STILL HESITATES OCCASIONALLY. NEVER TAKE AN INTERSECTION FOR GRANTED BECAUSE CAR MIGHT STUTTER - EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SOMETIMES. GAS TANK RECALLED - FIXED.
RECEIVED ERROR MESSAGE AND THEN STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. CAN'T GET IT UNLOCKED HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID STEERING SYSTEM FAILED AND IT'S NOT ON RECALL OR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY WANT $2000 TO FIX IT.
MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2015 FORD FOCUS HOME FROM COLLEGE AND HER POWER STEERING SHUT OFF. THE WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO DRIVE AND ERROR CAME ON THAT SAID 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT'. I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA AND SHE WAS ON 95 GOING 70.
WAS DRIVING ~75 MPH, GOT OFF HIGHWAY TO GET GAS (NO SIGNS OF ANY STEERING PROBLEMS). TURNED CAR BACK ON WARNING CAME ON, TURNED CAR BACK OFF AND ON AGAIN, WARNING STILL THERE. MOVE CAR TO PARKING SPOT FROM PUMP, NO POWER STEERING. HEARD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR POWER STEERING FOR SOME FORD FOCUSES BUT NOT FOR MY VIN.
HAVING PROBLEM WITH STEERING HARD TO STEER FEELS JERKY SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL APART I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND CANNOT AFFORD THE QUOTE THEY MADE DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO I STILL AM PAYING ON THIS CAR ALSO PREVIOUSLY HAD WIRES CHEWED BY RODENT BECAUSE THE WIRES ARE SOY BASED MATERIAL AND CLUTCH PROBLEMS THAT WERE FIXED AFTER QUITE AWHILE EXPENSIVE AND VERY INCONVIENENT
POWER STEERING FAILED ON 2015 FORD FOCUS. SAFETY ISSUE LOOSING STEERING CAPABILITIES DRIVING FROM ROAD INTO DRIVEWAY. STEERING ASSIST FAULTY MESSAGE APPEARED ON DASH. CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND SAID NO RECALL ON DEFECTIVE STEERING. TOOK TO FORD. DEALER AND QUOTED ME $2573 TO REPAIR. LUCKILY MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS NOT TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY ON THIS DEFECTIVE STEERING ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED.
WHILE DRIVING HOME (FIVE HOUR ROAD TRIP) NOISES STARTED COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. FELT LIKE IT WAS IS BINDING AND GRINDING. THIS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY ON MY WAY HOME, LATER ON CITY STREETS, WHEN TURNING. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO SAVANNAH TIRE TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. THE DX WAS RACK AND PINION. THEY COULD NOT REPAIR MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND THE FIRST OF JULY. MY STEERING NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON A FIVE YEAR CAR IS A PROBLEM, THIS MADE MY CAR UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. AT ANY TIME MY STEERING GEAR COULD HAVE WENT OUT CAUSING ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT HURTING MYSELF OR OTHERS. I COULD HAVE DIED. FORD HAS HAD STEERING ISSUES IN THE PAST ON MY CAR. THE CAR HAS HAD THREE...
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 60 AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND AN ALERT POPPED UP ON MY DASH SAYING 'DRIVER ASSIST FAULT. REPAIR REQUIRED', IT WENT AWAY AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES BUT IT HAS HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN SINCE THEN AND THE FIRST OCCURRENCE ONLY HAPPENED YESTERDAY. AND AS WELL TO THAT MY TRANSMISSION WHICH IS A 6 SPEED IS STIFF AND STICKS A LOT WHERE I CAN'T CHANGE GEARS IMMEDIATELY.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF WHILE EXITING THE RAMP NEARLY CAUSING ME TO VEER INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAS HAD A CLUTCH REPLACEMENT ALONG WITH A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION... I WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THAT DAY AS I WAS TERRIFIED. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO FORD DEALER AND THE HAVE SAID IT NEEDED A STEERING RACK REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $2000 I UNFORTUNATELY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY AT THIS TIME FOR REPAIR SO I HAD TO DRIVE IT ONCE MORE TO TAKE IT HOME , WHICH WAS ANOTHER SCARY ORDEAL.. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND THERE SEEMS TO AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH STEERING.. I HAVE ATTACHED THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT AND ALSO A SUMMARY ON PREVIOUS WORK DONE. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED. MY GRANDSON PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AND A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WE DISCOVERED IT WAS THE POWER STEERING. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AS WE HAD BEEN RUNNING ERRANDS ALL DAY. *TR
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT IDLE, THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THERE IS NO INCREASE IN RESISTANCE. WHEN DRIVING THE POWER ASSIST INTERMITTENTLY WILL FAIL. IT SEEMS TO GO ON AND OFF AS YOU DRIVE AT 35-45 MPH ON CITY STREETS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING SIMPLY FOLLOWING THE CURVES IN THE ROAD. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANY FASTER AS I AM CONCERNED IF IT FAILS UNEXPECTEDLY AT HIGHER SPEED, IT WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE 2011-2014 VEHICLES WERE RECALLED BUT THIS MODEL YEAR WAS NOT.
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THIS VEHICLE ALONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WE LIVED IN THE DESERT AT THE TIME (PHOENIX METRO/SAN ANTONIO TO BE EXACT); YET WHEN WE TOOK IT IN FOR WORK THE MECHANIC HAD FOUND EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE TO EVERYTHING. PAID OUT-OF-POCKET FOR A NEW STEERING COLUMN AND REBUILT TRANSMISSION. NOW, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE RADIATOR COMPARTMENT. I BELIEVE THAT SOMEWHERE THERE IS DAMAGE BECAUSE ONCE WE ARE DONE DRIVING FOR A BIT, THE ENTIRE RESERVOIR WILL LEAK OUT ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
WHILE DRIVING LOCALLY AND ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT 50 MILES/HR, I SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY. I WAS ALSO NOTIFIED VIA THE DASHBOARD COMMUNICATION SYSTEM "STEERING LOSS - STOP SAFELY". I WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY BACK HOME. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER TO BE TOLD THIS HAPPENS AND WOULD BE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. I ALSO RESEARCHED AND SEE THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH FORD AND CHEVY VEHICLES. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THE LOSS OF STEERING CAPABILITY - SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. WE ARE TALKING THE INABILITY TO CONTROL A 2000 POUND SLEDGEHAMMER WHEN THIS OCCURS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN STEERING BECAME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. A WARNING 'STEERING LOSS. STOP SAFELY' DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THERE IS NO POWER STEERING AND IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. STOPPED THE CAR, TRIED TO RESTART BUT THE WARNING APPEARED AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY WHILE DRIVING.
MY WIFE DROVE TO WORK, THE CAR FUNCTIONED FINE. WHEN SHE STARTED THE CAR AFTER WORK THE CAR COMPUTERS NOTIFIED HER THE STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM HAD FAILED. SHE NOTICED SHE COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL. SHE CALLED ME AND I ASKED HER TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME AND I WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD DO LITTLE BUT TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN I WAS SLAMMING FULL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE AND CAUSED ME TO HIT A STORE, THANK THE LORD I HAD FULL COVERAGE AND IT ONLY DID COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, I'VE ALSO HAD TIMES WHERE IT WILL SAY THE TRACTION CONTROL IS OUT OR IT HAS NO UPHILL START, MY MODEL DOESN'T HAVE THAT. I WOULD LIKE A REFUND ON MY VEHICLE BUT IT HAS ISSUES ALREADY.
I TOOK A 3 HOUR TRIP UP TO MY MOTHER'S HOUSE THAT WEEKEND AND THEN DROVE BACK ANOTHER 3 HOURS AND PARKED IT FOR THE NIGHT. I HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL I STARTED MY CAR UP THE NEXT MORNING. A NOTICE CAME ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED." THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY STIFF AND MAY AS WELL HAVE BEEN LOCKED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING. SO THAT WOULD MEAN THIS HAPPENED OVERNIGHT WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AFTER UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO FIND A BASIC FIX AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. I FIGURE IT HAPPENING OVERNIGHT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WHOLE SYSTEM BEING EVENLY SOAKED WITH HEAT FROM THE LONG DRIVE AND COOLING VERY SLOWLY OVERNIGHT CAUSING CRACKS IN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. IT WAS A $3000 REPAIR JOB FOR...
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK AND WAITING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A GRIND NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNING. NEXT I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BECOMING MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN. SHORTLY FROM NOTICING STEERING WHEEL DIFFICULT MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN, THE STEERING WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICES AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT POWER STEERING GEAR INTERNALLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
"STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE REQUIRED" CAME UP ON THE INFORMATION PANEL AND MADE IT VERY HARD TO STEER AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD! LUCKILY IT HAPPENED ON A 35 MPH SECTION OF THE ROAD AND THERE WAS NO TURNING INVOLVED, IT WAS LIKE THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY.
AT 56,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING FAILED. THIS RESULTED IN HEAVY AND INACCURATE STEERING INPUTS WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. FORD IS QUOTING A REPAIR BILL IN EXCESS OF $2,400. I DO BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE RECALL IN 2018 AFFECTING 1/2 MILLION FORDS AND THE RECALL FROM 2014 AFFECTING OVER 1 MILLION FORDS FOR SIMILAR STEERING RELATED ISSUES AND PREMATURE FAILURE. I HAVE NEVER HAD STEERING FAIL AND HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER 200K MILES INCLUDING MY 1989 F250. THE TECHNICIAN SAID UPON INSPECTION THAT THE STEERING GEAR WAS FULL OF WATER AND DIRT CAUSING CORROSION. I'M A NORMAL COMMUTER ON EVERYDAY ROADS. HE SPECIFICALLY SAID IT'S NOT ANYTHING THAT I COULD HAVE DONE THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THE BOOTS WERE COMPLETELY IN TACT AND HE COULDN'T COMMENT ON HOW THE CONTAMINANTS ENTERED THE STEERING GEAR. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT...
AT AROUND 70,000 MILES I COULD HEAR A SCRATCHING/RUBBING SOUND WHEN I TURNED, AROUND 70,500 I COULD HEAR IT OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. 71,000 MILES THE STEERING RACK AND PINION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. I WAS IN A CORNER AND COULD HAVE DIED.
TAKATA RECALL MY CAR HAS HAD MULTIPLE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND A MESSAGE ON THE CLUSTER CLAIMING A ECLECTICALLY STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION WHILE I AM DRIVING AT ANY SPEEDS. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NOW THE POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY OUT. MY CARS SUSPENSION IS 100 FACTORY OEM PARTS. WITH NO MODIFICATIONS.
