THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY SMOKE RESULTING IN A FIRE. THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED INDEPENDENTLY. ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2007, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I TOWED IT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE THEY WORKED ON IT AND REPLACED THE CAM SENSOR (TROUBLE CODE P-0340). I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS CODE POPPING UP SINCE 15,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 90,000 MILE. THIS IS THE SAME SENSOR USED ON ALL 7.3 DIESEL ENGINES SINCE 1999 THROUGH 2003. ALL OF THE DIESEL FORUMS SAY THAT THIS SENSOR IS ALWAYS GOING OUT. WHY ISN'T FORD DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SINCE THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM.
