2017 FORD F-150 Service Brakes Problems

I took my 2017 F150 pickup to Aaron Ford in Poway to perform the following: 1) Resolve recall #25V236 Ford Brake Booster 2) Provide an estimate for resolving the "wrench" cockpit display icon Aaron Ford had my vehicle for 3 days they claim, investigating #2 and provided an estimate of $10,000 to rebuild a transmission with <85,000 miles. The recall was NOT investigated nor resolved even though the dealer had the required parts in stock. I would like to file a formal complaint on Aaron Ford's failure to complete the specified recall work as request.

Duval Ford in Jacksonville, Florida claims they will not have the part until April of this year which means my child and I are in danger until that time. I will seek a remedy at another dealership but I do not believe it is reasonable to have this part on backorder for 3+ months after a recall notice has been sent out.

During the last two years with my 2017 Ford F150 XLT 4X4 5.4L, I've replaced the brake pads 8 times. I've also replaced the rotors on all 4 wheels. Each time, with less than 30,000 miles between needing to replace the pads, the front pads have worn down the entire pad at an unreasonable rate. I do not brake hard, and I drive mostly on highways without much traffic, so having to replace the pads every other month is excessive. With new rotors, still the pads continue wearing down to plate quickly. I've also had to replace the calipers on each wheel more than once because the caliper pins seize and will break when trying to adjust the caliper. I have taken my 2017 F150 to Sunrise over a period of 3 years to ‘fix’ the downshifting issue on the engine. I was constantly told I was imagining things. Then the dealer kept my truck for 3 months while is was supposedly fixed according to a recall sent out in 2022. The problem was not corrected. Then in 2025 another recall was issued for the braking system and the emergency brake light coming on. Again, back to the dealer for recall repair. And again it was NOT repaired as the light still comes again every time we are driving on the highway. Our truck has very low mileage for 2017. Please advise if you can assist us. 2017 F150 Super Crew 4x4 brought into dealership for brake master cylinder recall. ( no lights on dash) Dealership changed both the master cylinder and brake booster at no charge. The same day the vehicle was picked up, I returned it to the dealership. The vehicle was having issues with keeping straight on the highway and when I slowed down when coming to a full stop, the steering wheel turned completely to 1 side on its own. These symptoms were not present when vehicle was initially dropped off. Dealership is now telling me that the ABS module is bad and that I need to pay for that repair. The local Ford dealership submitted documentation (Special Service Support Center Assistance Request) to Ford to cover related damage, but request was denied. I called Ford corporate to re-open case and appeal decision. Ford corporate would not re-open. I requested a field service...

Since the brake recall was performed when driving the brake light will come on in the instrument cluster. When the light comes on the brake pedal gets stiff. Like it's stuck and takes a little effort to break free. This is not present when the light is off. Before the recall was performed I never had an issue with the brakes or the light coming on. Also. The door ajar light in the instrument cluster comes on when all the doors are completely closed. Will turn off after pulling over and turning the truck off, and back on. Sometime it comes on for a whole day no matter how many times I restart it, then be fine the next time I use the truck.

The powertrain/transmission is not receiving the signal from the engine to accelerate. It can be inspected. The vehicle is slow to accelerate or will not accelerate at all, causing lurching motions and slow movement of the vehicle. This can cause my vehicle to rapidly accelerate or me to slowly decelerate, causing me to possibly run into others or be hit by others. No one has reproduced or assessed the problem. The problem occurred multiple times before a warning message was displayed. The signal appeared after two weeks of the failure occuring.

In June 2025 and again in December 2025, when my truck stopped at a Red Traffic Light and I applied my brakes to stop the vehicle, my two rear wheels/tires started to spin rapidly non-stop for 60 seconds or the duration of the traffic light, causing a great deal of smoke and noise. My truck acted like a "Drag Racing" machine on a short track revving its engine and spinning its tires for a very short burst of speed down the track. Cars behind me kept their distance and I thought my truck would bolt forward at any time causing a serious accident. I applied my brakes as firmly as possible, praying my truck would not lose control and bolt forward into the lane of traffic. Transmission dropped into first gear at 45mph. Rear end locked up while taking my kids to school. Output speed sensor in transmission. Lead frame issue.

While driving , brake pedal went to the floor causing vehicle to barely stop. upon stopping and exiting vehicle noticed brake fluid on the ground and right side brake hose had ruptured. Vehicle had to be towed for repairs. Ford Service department says entire brake line and hose must be replaced due to "fitting is swollen".

This vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall #25V236 (Ford Recall #25S37) for a defective brake master cylinder that can leak into the brake booster, reducing braking effectiveness and creating a serious crash risk. The recall was issued on April 11, 2025. As of today, Ford has not provided any remedy. My local dealership confirmed that no fix is available, and Ford Corporate has refused to provide a loaner, rental allowance, or written timeline. This leaves me with an unsafe vehicle that I cannot rely on. This recall has been open for months without resolution, and Ford’s refusal to provide assistance places me and the public at risk. I request that NHTSA investigate Ford’s failure to provide a remedy in a timely manner, require Ford to provide comparable loaner/rental vehicles until the repair is available, and hold them accountable for this unreasonable delay.

Front brake flexible hose assembly failure without warning leading to loss of brake function. Luckily this was noticed during start up while parked. Brake fluid discharged with each brake pedal depression. Work was repaired by Ford dealership.

This first began when we went to Oregon from dry Central Valley in California and hit rain. Multiple error messages appeared: Service Advance Trac, Check 4x4, Hill Assist Not Available, ABS, Steering Assist Fault, etc. Power steering assist was lost and is now intermittent which creates a dangerous situation. The ABS brakes made load groaning noises. I went to O’Reilley’s and used their OBD2 scanner. It showed codes: U1012-00, U0212-00, U0121-00, P062C-00, all being communication errors. I got a new battery and had a shop scan it. The clockspring was bad so it was replaced with an OEM from Sunrise Ford. He can’t get any communication with any of the other modules. I researched the issues and disconnected the battery while I cleaned the ABS controller connection with electrical contact cleaner. The truck was parked overnight and operating normal. I started it up the next day and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. It's leaking brake fluid all over from the front passenger brake hose. The dealership says it is not under recall or fixable by warranty. This could have been extremely dangerous on a highway or while towing. This vehicle has just over 61k miles.

Went to hit the brakes and they went all the way to the floor and come to find out the brake line was completely shredded. I have it at Les Schwab tire center in Lincoln city right now getting fixed. It’s going to cost me $950 for all of this. And now my kids and I are stranded.

While parking my truck in my shed the passenger side flexible brake hose ruptured and all the brake fluid gushed out. I almost immediately lost my front brakes. I pull a 9,000 lb camper and was fortunate I was not pulling it when this occurred or this could have put my family and anyone in other vehicles on the road at risk of severe injury or death. I had the truck towed to a local Ford dealership. The technician there confirmed that the front passenger side brake line flexible hose ruptured and that the driver's side needed to be replaced as well. There was no warning lights prior to the event. But soon after the brake hose ruptured a warning that the brake fluid level was low came on.

I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES ON MY F150 2017... ACTUALLY I WAS AMAZED HOW LONG I WENT WITH OUT BRAKES BEFORE GETTING THEM FIXED. MY PROBLEMS BEGAN WHEN I DECIDED TO GET NEW BRAKES. SO EVERYTIME I'M COMING DOWN THE HILL I GET NERVOUS BECAUSE I FEEL THE BRAKES WILL GIVE OUT COMPLETELY ONE DAY.

Driver front brake hose ruptured and pedal went to the floor (thankfully while parked). Upon inspection, found the passenger front brake hose to be swollen in the same place directly below the crimp where the fitting is attached. There were no warning signs or symptoms prior to this failure and I hate to think what could have happened if this failure occurred somewhere like an interstate off ramp or some emergency braking situation. The parts can be made available for inspection before Dec 31 2024.

I was stopped at a red light when all of a sudden with no warning my brake peddle went to the floor and my truck started rolling backwards. I was terrified, but luckily there was no one behind me else I would have hit them. I have a scheduled appointment with a ford dealer to check the brakes on Monday May 6th 2024. I looked up the issue and apparently some F150s have been recalled for a brake fluid leak from the brake boosters master cylinder- recall # 20S31 (22V150000). But my truck doesn't have any recalls?

Brake Booster failed to operate. When driving and needing to stop the brake peddle was stiff and would not compress failing to safely stop the vehicle. I had to stand on the brakes as hard as I could to come to a stop. Shortly afterwards the dashboard alerted me to Check Brake System. Upon reading DTCs it showed P0555 (Brake Booster Pressure Sensor Circuit) and P0556 (Brake Booster Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance). Vehicle no longer is safe to operate. I had this issue back in 2019 on several occasions but it was intermittent and self resolved itself after pumping the brakes. I took it to a Ford dealership. They kept the truck for 2 months saying they couldn’t duplicate the issue and that there were no recalls for my VIN and gave the truck back to me saying it was safe to drive. I have not had the issue again...

My advanced track warning light comes on then all the lights on the dash and start going off one warning after the other. (Low oil, limited breaking, tire pressure, etc.) Then all electrical components in the vehicle turns off while driving. Its been serviced by the dealer which they replaced the break booster sensor. About 2-3 weeks later, it started happening again only this time when i drive the breaks lock up now and grind to the addition of everything lighting up the dash and all electrical components turn off while driving. Dealer charger me $900 for first repair now they’re charging me $2500 to start for the APIM replacement. They are not clear on issue. They stated well start with apim and go from there.

My truck went to Bolton Ford in Lake Charles, Louisiana for a Brake Master Cylinder Recall on September 07, 2023. Upon receiving my truck back that afternoon, the repair was stated to have been successfully completed. After driving about twenty miles, a loud alert came on in the truck, and an alert came on the dash stating, "Check Brake System", also the Brake light by the tachometer. I immediately pulled over and called the dealership service department. I checked under the hood, and only found that the fluid reservoir cap was slightly loose. They advised watching the truck and getting it back as soon as I could. Turning the key off, cleared the warning. The warning happened two more times that day on my way home. I returned the truck back to the dealer for service two more times again after this time for the same problem. They have worked...

When I went to stop as I pulled up behind another car at a gas pump, my brake pedal went completely to the floor and I had no brakes. I then left the gas station to go to my place of employment down a hill and my ability to brake was very minimal. I lost my front brakes in my F150 and later found out that only the back brakes were stopping me. I had to have my truck towed and found out that my front brake hose burst and the second one was bubbled and ready to burst as well. I have saved the brakes hoses if the NHTSA would like them for examination.

2017 F150 with approximately 71k miles. The front passenger-side flexible brake line split and sprayed out all brake fluid from the system. This happened while parked and in the process of shifting into gear with the brake pedal pushed down. The pedal went to the floor without resistance due to loss of brake fluid pressure. The truck was towed to a Ford dealer for inspection with the expectation this would be covered under the extended warranty. The dealer service center reviewed the issue and recommended replacement of the hose due to it "spewing fluid near crimp connection". Brake booster. Have a 2016 f150 that has an open recall, but our 2017 f150 5.0 is the one with the brake booster failure. Wife and kids in the truck and brake fluid sensor went off and within 20 minutes she could hardly brake.

My front right brake line busted on my 2017 F150 STX. This 5 year old truck has under 70 thousand miles on it and it matches up with the Master Brake Caliber Recall 22S11 or 22S14. I think my vehicle should be included in the recall. Brake lines don't just bust and I could have seriously injured someone or myself because of this faulty part.

Brakes slowly stop holding while at a stop for too long; such as at a red light or waiting for a train, and takes more force from driver to stop vehicle. After inspecting the braking system I found brake fluid leaking between the brake booster and master cylinder. With a little investigating I found Ford already recalled the same part number for other F150 trucks but mine was not in that group from the same model year. The current recall needs to be expanded to cover every truck with that part number. Due to this failure i was involved in a low speed TC in a parking lot when my brakes stopped holding.

DOING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, IN FREEZING TEMPS AND LIGHT SNOW, APPROACHED A YELLOW LIGHT. HAD PLENTY OF DISTANCE TO STOP AND BEGAN TO APPLY BRAKES. TRUCK BEGAN TO SLOW, BUT SUDDENLY FELT LIKE THE BRAKES LET GO OR MAYBE HIT A PATCH OF ICE. LET OFF AND DEPRESSED THE PEDAL AGAIN. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR - NO BRAKES. I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO TRY PUMPING THE BRAKES OR STEPPING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED THE GARAGE DOOR DAMAGING IT TO THE POINT THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT COST IS $1,833.33. THE VEHICLE IMPACT POINTS WERE THE PLASTIC PARTS OF THE TAILGATE, BUMPER AND TRAILER HITCH. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE AGAIN AFTER THE INCIDENT. I HAD SKYLINE FORD CHECK THE BRAKES AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY TROUBLE CODES OR PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES DURING A TEST DRIVE. I NOW DON'T TRUST THE BRAKES AND AM CONCERNED THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH MORE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,613.

WHILE COMING TO A STOP IN TRAFFIC MY 2017 FORD F-150 XL 5.0L STARTED BRAKING NORMALLY WITH SOLID PEDAL FEEL. HOWEVER, AS I CONTINUED BRAKING AND APPLYING MORE PRESSURE TO STOP THE PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME VERY SOFT AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO RELEASE THE PEDAL AND REAPPLY THE BRAKES. AGAIN, THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED OUT NORMAL AND THEN WENT SOFT AGAIN AS MORE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED AND I HAD TO VEER TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID REAR ENDING A STOPPED VEHICLE. LUCKILY NO COLLISION OCCURRED. THE BRAKES CONTINUED ACTING THIS WAY UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO CAREFULLY DRIVE IT TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER. THIS OCCURRED ON BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR TRYING TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY DUE TO TRAFFIC. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN FOR REPAIR AT A FORD SERVICE CENTER.

I WAS ON A HIGHWAY IN RAIN ON CRUISE CONTROL APPROACHING AN OFF RAMP. MY SPEED WAS 72 MPH AS SET BY CRUISE CONTROL. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO DISENGAGE AND SLOW FOR THE OFF-RAMP WHICH IS SHARP. AS I APPROACHED I STARTED TO APPLY MORE BRAKE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING AS I WAS GOING INTO THE TURN. I STOMPED ON THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR REPEATEDLY WHILE STILL ACCELERATING. I NAVIGATED THE TURN AT HIGH SPEED WITH THE BACK END BREAKING LOOSE AND FISH TAILING. I BARELY MADE IT AROUND AND PROCEEDED TO HIT THE OFF BUTTON FRANTICALLY. THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN AND I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD MY 7YR OLD GIRL IN THE TRUCK. IT WAS TERRIFYING. WHEN I RESTARTED THE TRUCK THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISENGAGED AND THE BRAKES WORKED

I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY SITTING STATIONARY IN MY VEHICLE BUCKLING UP TO DEPART FOR THE STORE. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PUSH THE START BUTTON. AFTER STARTING I MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. BECAUSE MY DRIVEWAY HAS A SLIGHT RAMP TO IT THE VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING FORWARD, I KEPT HITTING THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL KEPT GOING TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. AS A RESULT I ROLLED INTO A BLOCK FENCE ACROSS FROM MY DRIVEWAY KNOCKING IT DOWN AND DAMAGING MY VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS JUST ROLLING UNDER ITS OWN MOMENTUM, NO POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN. NO INJURIES, BUT FENCE WAS DOWN AND VEHICLE HOOD AND OTHER FRONT END AREAS WERE DAMAGED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE BRAKES...

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. *PM CONSUMER STATED HE TRIED APPLYING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES BUT BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND EMERGENCY BRAKES HAD TO BE USED.*JB

DRIVING FROM CALIFORNIA TO OREGON THROUGH NEVADA ON INTERSTATE WHEN VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT NEVADA DEALER WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. INFORMED FORD MOTOR COMPANY. CONTINUED TO OREGON AND THEN ON TO BOZEMAN MONTANA. VEHICLE IS NOW AT BOZEMAN FORD HAVING THE MOTOR DISMANTLED FOR DIAGNOSIS. WAS TOLD THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE NUMBER ONE CYLINDER, FORD CORPORATION HAS NOT BEEN OF ANY HELP WHAT SO EVER.

WENT TO GROCERY STORE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. CAME OUT OF STORE AND STARTED TRUCK AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. ALONG WITH ERROR MESSAGES ON DISPLAY READING: SERVICE ADVANTRAC, HILL ASSIST FAULT, POWERSTEERING ASSIST FAULT, ALSO HAVE ABS LIGHT ON AND CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING. STEERING IS VERY HARD TO TURN AND MAKES TRUCK VERY UNPLEASANT TO DRIVE.

INTERMITTENT BRAKING ISSUE. BREAKS DO NOT HAVE MUCH BREAKING POWER. WHILE SETTING AT A RED LIGHT MORE PRESSURE NEEDS TO APPLIED TO THE BREAK PEDAL. IN SOME INSTANCES THE PEDAL TRAVELS AN ADDITIONAL 2 INCHES. LOSS OF BREAK HOLDING POWER CAUSED ME TO HIT A TRAILER BEING TOWED IN FRONT OF ME. MY BUMPER HAD TO BE REPLACED.

DASHBOARD WARNING MESSAGE "PARK BRAKE MALFUNCTION-SERVICE NOW" ALONG WITH OTHER BRAKE SYSTEM SYMBOLS. MULTIPLE RANDOM OCCURRENCES, CAN HAPPEN UPON STARTING, WHEN RUNNING OR ANY OPERATING CONDITION. FIRST HAPPENED DAY AFTER NEW CAR DELIVERY AND RE-OCCURS UP TO PRESENT DATE. AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE ATTEMPTED REPAIRS SIX TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. FORD F-150 LOST CONTROL AND ACCELERATED COMING OUT OF CAR WASH TUNNEL. CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO BRAKES AND ACCELERATED INTO A BUILDING INJURING DRIVER AND PEDESTRIAN.

I GO TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME MY VEHICLE FOR ALL MAINTENANCE. (COWLES PARKWAY FORD, WOODBRIDGE VIRGINIA). ON 10/22,2018, I HAD MY TRUCK SERVICED AND IT WAS NOTED THAT MY BRAKES WERE IN A "YELLOW CONDITION." ON 12/11/18 MY VEHICLE RECEIVED A MANDATORY VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION (WITH NO MENTION OF THE BRAKE CONDITION). ON 1/22/2019, I TOOK MY TRUCK FOR A SERVICE TO INCLUDE TIRE ROTATION AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIRES COULD NOT BE ROTATED AND THE BRAKES COULD NOT BE INSPECTED BECAUSE THE "LUGNUTS WERE SWOLLEN." I ADMIT THAT THIS SOUNDED LUDICROUS--(I AM A RETIRED AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE OFFICER WITH 27 YEARS SERVICE IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE). WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS CONDITION FROM THE SENIOR TECHNICIAN, HE INFORMED ME THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS THESE LUG NUTS THAT SWELL DUE TO WATER INTRUSION AND FREEZING. I ASKED HOW I WOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE...

COULD NOT STOP FOR RED LIGHT AND SMASHED INTO SOMEONEE

THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS SEIZED UP CAUSING GRINDING NOISES AND EXCESSIVE WEAR OF PADS AND ROTORS IN A VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. GAS MILEAGE WAS ALSO GREATLY REDUCED AS BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED WHILE DRIVING. FORD REPLACED THE EFFECTED CALIPER BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE OTHER 3 WILL NOT DO THE SAME THING SAYING IT WAS A FAULTY PART RAISING CONCERN THAT THEY WILL GO OUT AFTER MY WARRANTY ON A ONE YEAR OLD TRUCK EXPIRES IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS LEAVING ME RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE FAULTY PARTS OUT OF POCKET.
