The vehicle was towed to the residence, and then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the underbody shield was striking the drive shaft while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. I noticed a few months ago my dash lights and radio lights at night when I turn my headlights on would flicker on and off several times then stop and do it again repeated process. I never got it looked at so just the other day I was driving and my windshield wipers, my emergency flashers and my driverside window and the back passenger window was all going crazy my widows was rolling up and down my flashers was going off and my wipers wouldn't turn off so I immediately pull over fearing of causing an accident with someone due to not being able to focus on driving once I pulled over my horn started blowing like crazy it was weird so I cut the vehicle off and everything kept doing what it was doing so I popped the hood and killed the battery. HAD NEW TRANSMISSION PAN INSTALLED AT DEALER; NOW HAVE A SHUDDER WHEN AT 28-35 MPH AND AT 38-47 MPH. SHUDDERS LIKE YOU RAN OVER A RUMBLE STRIP.
WHEN ACCELERATING MY VEHICLE I BOUGHT TWO DAYS PRIOR (USED), FROM BEING A A STOP LIGHT, IT JERKED/ WOULDN'T ACCELERATE RPMS WENT VERY HIGH, MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME IN IMMEDIATELY. WHEN ABLE TO PULL THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT TO ASSESS WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED I NOTICED IT DUMPING TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED.

THE CAR WITH LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS BY ITSELF AND FLASH LIGHTS ON AND OFF, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE INOPERABLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS DURING DRIVING AND WHEN PARKING. WE WERE ALREADY TOLD THE CONTROLMODULE NEEDS REPLACING BUT BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A 4X4 IT IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. THEN THE BRAKES STOP BUT NOT FULLY AND WILL CAUSE A SLIDE BACKWARDS IF NOT HELD DOWN WHILE IN MOTION, ON AN INCLINE, ON STREET OR RAMP. THE THROTTLE LIGHT AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING, WHILE TURNING, ON STREETAND HIGHWAY, CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL IN TRAFFIC, WHILE MOVING WE HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENEDED A COUPLE OF TIMES. WE SEE SEVERAL RECALLS THAT WOULD RELATE TO OUR PROBLEM BUT ALL HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED FOR THE 4X4.
THE HEAT SHIELD DID COME PART WAY OFF DURING A DRIVE. HAD TO REMOVE IT AND REPLACE IT. AMAZINGLY IT DIDN'T CAUSE A WRECK.
WHILE DRIVING ON ASPHALT AND DIP, SLOPE, AND CURVE, THE VEHICLE WANTED TO STALLED AND LOOSES POWER. BRAKE LIGHT FOR ENTIRE RIDE. THIS POWER LOST IS CONSISTENCE WHEN GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACK OR SLOPE AND DIP MOTIONS. IT BEEN LIKE THIS WITH POWER AND STABILITY SINCE IT WAS PURCHASE NEW FROM THE DEALER. I'M THE OWNER. WHILE DRIVING NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED THE CAR KICKS BACK. IT COULD BE WHEN IT'S MOVING TO THE NEXT GEAR OR JUST ON A GEAR IT KICKS BACK HARD. TOOK THE CAR TO MECHANIC NO ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION EVERY ONE IS STUMPED AS TO WHAT IT IS. NOTHING COMES UP ON DIAGNOSTIC. THE OTHER ISSUE THAT STARTED WITH THE ABOVE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF ON IT'S OWN. IT COULD BE WHILE YOU ARE IDLE OR BACKING UP, PARKING OR EVEN IN THE PROCESS OF STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT BECAUSE THE BREAKS LOCKED UP AFTER THE CAR JUST STALLED WHILE I WAS STOPPING THE VEHICLE. AGAIN NO ONE KNOWS WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. VERY DANGEROUS. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER FOR REPLACEMENT OF AN "UNDERBODY TRANSMISSION SHIELD". I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE (DODGE NITRO) TO ALLEN SAMUELS DODGE IN HOUSTON. AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, THE SERVICE ADVISOR ([XXX]) INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART FOR MY VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD TAKE 2 AND 1/2 MONTHS BEFORE THE PART WOULD ARRIVE AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I BELIEVE THE ADVISOR WAS ATTEMPTING TO DISCOURAGE ME FROM HAVING THE REPAIR DONE (SINCE THIS IS A REPAIR WHICH THEY WILL NOT RECEIVE PAYMENT/COMMISSION). AIR BAGS WENT OFF WHEN THE DRIVESHAFT JUST BLEW BECAUSE APPARENTLY IT WAS MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM WHICH IS MAGNETIC AND CAUSES IT TO WEAR QUICKLY AND DRAWS OTHER PARTS TO IT CAUSING IT TO RUB AND RUPTURE; ALSO THE A/C ALWAYS GOES OUT. I HAD IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES ALL FOR FREON LEAKS. NOTHING GETS COVERED BECAUSE NOT ALL OF THE VEHICLES WERE MADE WITH THIS TERRIBLE ALUMINUM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD!!! TOOK MY 2007 DODGE NITRO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ENGINE LIGHTS. AFTER ALL ISSUES WERE REPAIRED RELATED TO ENGINE LIGHTS, I WAS TOLD THE HEAT SHIELD HAD FALLEN AND WAS RESTING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. THIS CAUSED A SHAVING OFF OF THE METAL ALONG A 6-8 INCH SPACE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD NO LONGER HONOR THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WAS FOR THE CAR TO BE IN HIGH WATER THUS DAMAGING THE HEAT SHIELD CAUSING IT TO WEAR DOWN THE METAL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO FACTORY-INSTALLED FASTENERS HOLDING THE HEAT SHIELD IN PLACE. I HAVE NOT EVER HAD MY CAR IN HIGH WATER AND UPON MY FURTHER EXAMINATION INCLUDING VIDEO DOCUMENTATION OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE, I POINTED OUT TO THE SERVICE TECH THAT THE FACTORY LABEL ON THE DRIVE...
THE DRIVE SHAFT BROKE IN HALF. THE ALUMINUM INSULATION BLANKET LOCATED ABOVE THE DRIVE SHAFT SAGGED AND CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT. OVER TIME, THE RUBBING OF THE BLANKET AGAINST THE DRIVE SHAFT WORE AWAY A 5 INCH PART OF THE DRIVE SHAFT UNTIL IT BROKE IN HALF. THE BLANKET HAS NOTHING TO KEEP IT FROM SAGGING SUCH AS WIRE (WIRE IS USED IN OTHER PLACES BUT NOT ABOVE THE SPOT ON MY CARE THAT ALLOWED THE BLANKET TO SAG). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATED CAUSING IT TO LUNG FORWARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED GEARS WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT TRIED RESTARTING THE VEHICLE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 78,000.
ON JULY 4TH 2012 I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND AS I STARTED TO TURN THE CAR JUMPED IN THE AIR THE AIR BAGS ON THE SIDES DEPLOYED. I STOPPED THE CAR TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED.
