WHIN FILLING TANK GAS BOILS OUT JUST AFTER THE AUTO SHUTOFF CLICKS.
THIS VEHICLE AS BOUGHT USED AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON, TX WITH ABOUT 33,800 MILES ON IT. WHEN REFUELING THIS VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME THE GAS PUMP DID NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL, RESULTING IN GAS OVERFLOWING ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SPILLING ON THE GROUND. THIS SAME KIND OF MALFUNCTION CONTINUES TO OCCUR EVERY TIME IT IS REFUELED UNLESS THE PERSON REFUELING IT MANUALLY STOPS THE PUMP BEFORE THE TANK IS COMPLETELY FULL. SOMETIMES THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AS GAS BEGINS TO OVERFLOW, AND OTHER TIMES THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF AT ALL. THIS CONDITION IS VERY HAZARDOUS, HARMFUL TO THE VEHICLE'S PAINT, AND WASTEFUL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, FUEL SPRAYED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ONTO THE GROUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 3/14/13 *CN THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM JEEP HAD WITH THE ROLL OVER VALVE IN THE GAS TANK BEING DEFECTIVE AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FILL FUEL TANK, THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF AS NORMAL WHEN TANK WAS FULL, HOWEVER GASOLINE SHOT OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ALL OVER MY PANTS AND SHOES. THERE WAS PROBABLY A PINT TO A HALF GALLON OF FUEL THAT SHOT OUT OF THE TANK. I HAVE CHECKED ON LINE AND DETERMINED THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH THE 2007 DODGE NITRO. THIS NOW OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME I FILL THE FUEL TANK. SOMEONE IS BOUND TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED OVER THIS SITUATION, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.
WHILE FILLING FUEL INTO THE TRUCK THE AUTO STOP DID NOT WORK, THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED MY 5 YR OLD SON WAS WASHING THE WINDOWS WITH MY WIFE AND IT SPRAYED FUEL ON MY SONS LEGS AND SHOES. WE FIGURED THE PUMP HAD A PROBLEM. NOW IT SEEMS TO DO IT EVERY TIME WE FUEL THE TRUCK . AFTER SEARCHING I FOUND ITS A VENT PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 NITRO THAT THE DEALER KNOWS ABOUT, IM NOT HAPPY RIGHT NOW THE DEALER CLAIMS ONLY SOME VEHICLES ARE RECALLED ON THIS. SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR LEGAL ACTION NEXT? *TR
GAS SPILLS OUT WHEN FILLING TANK. BY THE TIME THE AUTO SHUT OFF ON PUMP STOPS, GAS SPILLS OUT AND ON THE GROUND. HAS HAPPENED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP WITH FUEL THE TANK WILL OVERFLOW SPILLING OUT APPROX. A GALLON OF FUEL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT ALSO INDICATES THAT THE SHUT OFF VALVE ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY AND THAT THE SAFETY FEATURE OF SHUTTING OFF THE FUEL LINE WHEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WILL ALSO NOT WORK THEREFORE BEING A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
WHILE FILLING GAS TANK, WHEN TANK BECOMES FULL IT WILL SPEW OUT GAS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE NITRO AND ON TO THE GROUND. NOT JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS. CLOSE TO A PINT OF GAS, IF NOT MORE. AT EACH FILLUP. TRIED DIFFERENT PUMPS AT DIFFERENT STATIONS, IN DIFFERENT STATES. ALL DO THE SAME THING. VERY HAZARDOUS TO SPILL THAT MUCH GAS ON THE GROUND EACH TIME THE NITRO IS FUELED UP. *TR
WHEN THE GAS TANK IS BEING FILLED UP AND THE NOZZLE AT THE PUMP SHUTS OFF INDICATING THE GAS TANK IS FULL, ABOUT A QUARTER GALLON OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GAS, FUEL WILL SPEW FROM THE FILLER PIPE AND SPILL ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE PERSON FUELING. IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THE CAUSE IS A FAULTY OVERFLOW FLAP THAT IS DESIGNED TO KEEP FUEL FROM FLOWING OUT OF THE TANK UPON FILL UP, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IT IS TO PREVENT FUEL FROM EXITING THE TANK IN THE CASE OF A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. THIS FAULTY FLAP COULD MEAN LIFE OR DEATH IN A ROLLOVER IF FUEL IS ALLOWED TO LEAK FROM THE TANK AND IGNITE. *TR
UPON REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE GAS HOSE IS NOT TRIGGERED TO SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY AND ALLOWS ABOUT A HALF OF A GALLON OF GAS TO OVERFLOW ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. WHETHER THE HOSE IS BEING PUMPED MANUALLY OR TRIGGERED TO STAY ON DOES NOT CHANGE THIS OUTCOME. *TR
THERE IS A VALVE IN THE GAS TANK THAT'S PREVENTS GAS SPILLAGE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR ROLLS OVER. WHEN FUELING, THE FILLER NOZZLE NEVER SHUTS OFF. FUEL SPEWS OUT OF THE FILL NECK ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK, THE GROUND, AND YOU (IF YOU'RE STANDING TOO CLOSE). THIS HAS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I'VE FILL THE TRUCK. I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND IT HAPPENS AT EVERY ONE. THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. BASED ON THE RESEARCH I'VE CONDUCTED, THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED TO A "ROLLOVER" VALVE. THIS VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT FUEL FROM FLOWING OUT OF THE FILL NECK IN THE EVENT OF A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, AND BASED ON MY INTERNET SEARCH, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO WHILE FILLING UP MY GAS TANK THE PUMP SHUT OFF TO INDICATE A FULL TANK AND GAS WAS GUSHING ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN THE GAS STATION PUMP AND DIDN'T THINK TO MUCH OF IT. THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO FILL UP IT DID THE SAME THING. THE PUMP SHUT OFF AND GAS SPILLED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM EVER SINCE AND I AM NEVER ABLE TO FILL UP THE GAS TANK. AFTER LOOKING INTO SOME DODGE NITRO FORUMS I REALIZED THAT THIS IS A VEHICLE PROBLEM RELATED TO A FUEL TANK ROLL OVER VALVE STUCK OPEN WHICH COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
2007 DODGE NITRO. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE GAS TANK *TGW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE GAS TANK WAS MOST LIKELY INSTALLED ALREADY BROKEN OR IMPROPERLY. THUS, WHEN FILLING THE TANK, THE AIR DIFFERENTIAL INSIDE THE TANK THAT FORCED THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY DID NOT REGISTER DUE TO THE DEFECT. THE CONSUMER STATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE TANK HAS OVERFLOWED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *JB
EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK OF MY 2007 DODGE NITRO THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE THAT "BURPS" BACK OUT OF THE TANK ONTO THE CAR, THE GROUND AND ANYONE (UNSUSPECTING THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN) STANDING NEAR BY. IT MAY BE AS MUCH AS A GALLON OF GASOLINE. CHRYSLER HAS ADMITTED THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OF A VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. THIS VALVE IS THERE TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EXPLOSION IN THE EVENT OF A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. IF THIS VALVE IS DEFECTIVE IT WOULD SEEM IT WILL NOT PREVENT AN EXPLOSION IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. RECENTLY MY DAUGHTER BORROWED THE CAR. I NEGLECTED TO TELL HER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. SHE FILLED THE CAR AND STOOD THERE AS GASOLINE COVERED HER SHOES AND THE BOTTOM OF A GOOD PAIR OF SLACKS. THE GAS TANK VALVE INSIDE THE TANK FOR SAFETY IS BROKEN. WITH OUT THIS VALVE GAS WILL BE RELEASED IN ANY ACCIDENT. IT ALSO CAUSES THE GAS TANK TO OVER FILL WHEN FILLING UP. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROLL OVER VALVE WITHIN THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK WITH AN AUTOMATIC CUT OFF NOZZLE, THERE IS SEVERE SPLASH BACK AS THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF THE GAS SUPPLY. GAS SPUTS OUT OF THE FILLER PIPE UNDER PRESSURE. THIS IS A REAL FIRE HAZARD PLUS QUITE A MESS IF IT GETS ON THE DRIVER/GAS PUMP USER. REPEATED SURGES WILL LIKELY TAKE THE PAINT OFF THE LEFT REAR FENDER. IF I ESTIMATE THAT THE TANK WILL TAKE ABOUT 14 GALLONS, I STOP THE DELIVERY AT 11 GALLONS, REMOVE THE NOZZLE AND SHAKE THE VEHICLE. THEN I REINSERT THE NOZZLE AND STOP AT EACH GALLON UNTIL FULL. EVEN WITH THIS TECHNIQUE, THERE MAY BE A MILD SPLASH BACK. THIS TECHNIQUE MAKES FUELING THE VEHICLE A REAL CHORE WHICH IS AN AGGRAVATION! *KB

WHEN REFUELING, AFTER THE PUMP NOZZLE SHUTS OFF, THERE IS A BACK SPLASH OF GASOLINE FROM THE TANK FILLER TUBE. SUSPECT THE FUEL TANK ROLL OVER VALVE IS STUCK OPEN. THIS CREATES A FIRE HAZARD UPON REFUELING AND WOULD ALLOW FUEL LEAKAGE UPON ROLL OVER, THE EXACT EVENT THE VALVE IS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT. THIS HAS BEEN CONSISTENT SINCE NOVEMBER 2010.

WHEN PUMPING FUEL INTO OUR FAMILYS 2007 DODGE NITRO, A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE SPILLS ALL OVER THE PERSON, THE CAR, AND THE GROUND AT THE GAS STATION. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION IS USED. IT IS A SAFETY DEFECT FULLY KNOWN TO CHRYSLER-DODGE, AND MAY BE CAUSED BY A PART SUPPLIER DEFECT. THE ALLEGEDLY DEFECTIVE PART IS A FUEL CHECK VALVE THAT IS BUILT INTO THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THE DEFECTIVE PART SO IT IS A MAJOR REPAIR. THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS APPARENTLY INVOLVED IN PREVENTING TANK EXPLOSIONS SHOULD THE VEHICLE ROLL OVER. SINCE THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS LIKELY INSTALLED IN MANY THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES, THERE IS CONCERN THIS DEFECT COULD LEAD TO FUEL TANK DETONATIONS IN NITROS AND JEEP LIBERTIES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. MY 2007 DODGE NITRO SPILLS GASOLINE EVERY TIME I PUMP GAS. THE PUMP FAILS TO SHUT OFF AND GASOLINE SPEWES OUT OF THE FILL TUBE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE PAVEMENT AND ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS MY LEGS AND SHOES. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS AND ONLY STARTED RECENTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY VENT VALVE INSIDE THE TANK THAT MUST BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION THE FAULTY VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT EXPLOSIONS IN CASE THE VEHICLE ROLLS OVER. IF THIS VALVE IS FAULTY THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR NITRO OWNERS. *TR
