2017 Pacifica Head Gasket 68000
#11570075 |
The van shuts off while driving. This has happened several times now. Stuck in the middle of road where van stalled. Need to stop and restart. No warning or indicator lights.

Engine misfire, spark plug issue, blown head gasket
#11567950 |
After smelling a burning smell when driving, an independent service center diagnosed that the engine oil cooler had failed causing the engine oil and antifreeze coolant levels to drop low enough that continued driving could seize the engine. The sparkplugs were damaged and a head gasket could be required as well. If not for the burning smell, the van could have stopped suddenly in busy traffic on the highway with my kids inside. The vehicle can be inspected anytime. I have not yet contacted the manufacturer. No warning lights went on. The only indication was a burning smell that I first thought was the new rear brakes I had installed.

This car has a blown head gasket at 123,000 miles. It seems this is a VERY common problem with this car and something that is clearly a factory defect. I have heard of this problem with many of these cars and a lot of them occur at less than 100,000 miles.

I am experiencing an issue where the air conditioner blows hot air intermittently and now just blowing hot air. It seems to be a known issue with the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica but there doesn’t seem to be a recall for my van. I also noticed that there seems to be an issue with the coolant leaking which after some google searching also seems to be a known issue. Please advise.

The vehicle first malfunctioned 09/2022. All the signals on the dashboard came on including the wipers. Then the vehicle wouldn’t accelerate and stopped while driving in the middle of the road. I got it towed to a Chrysler dealership and they had it for 4 four months and couldn’t maintain power within the van. After 4 fours I received the van back and it was driving good. Recently, while out of town on 12/16/2023 the van began to run hot for the first time and I parked it. The next day it wouldn’t start and I got it towed to a nearby shop on 12/18/23 and I was told it was my starter. I replaced the starter and the shop said it was something with my engine due to white smoke coming out the exhaust pipes. I got it towed again to a nearby Chrysler dealership on 12/19/23 and they...

2017 Chrysler pacifica has had multiple major engine failures. First was 2021 head gasket failure which lead to a new engine. Now 2023 the exact same thing has happened again. Engine temperature warning light came on got car towed. Head gasket failure again. This van is unsafe engine design is horribly flawed leading to multiple engine failures
#11562792 |
When going to accelerate, the car will not shift into gear. It g Jerks and it takes a few seconds to physically move foward. There are times when turning onto a road or highway it will not accelerate as it should.

Head gasket and Rear valve cover gasket replaced. Still smelling burning oil. Started with check engine light for misfire on cylinder 5. 75K miles on vehicle. There is a rough idle and loss of power at interstate speeds.
#11561416 |
There was a flashing check engine light and shaking engine. Found out there was a misfire at cylinder 5. Dealership found coolant inside the cylinder.

Head Gasket has failed on the engine which resulted in radiator blowing out in the middle of traffic stranding my wife and four kids on the side of the road for hours. Seems to be a common issue with the Chrysler 3.6 engine in 2017 models and possibly 2018 models.

Blown engine gasket
#11558353 |
Head gasket failed, causing the engine to overheat and damage to occur. Luckily, my wife was able to move safely off of the roadway. The vehicle was taken to LaFontaine CDJR in Walled Lake, Michigan, for repair. They confirmed that it was indeed a head gasket failure and the repair total would be around $6000. Research shows that this is a frequent problem with these vehicles, with numerous reports online.

Check Engine light came on in October 2023. Code indicated misfire cylinder #5. Dealer could not reproduce problem in shop. Returned vehicle with instructions to drive until check engine light came back on. 800 miles later light came back on. Dealer reported code was misfire cylinder #5 again on Nov. 22, 2023. Also found coolant in cylinder indicating blown head gasket. Recommended repair was engine replacement as Chrysler did not recommend head gasket repair. Cost $11,500. Engine has 56,000 miles on it. Power train warranty was 5 years/60,000 miles, so just out of warranty for time but not mileage. Problem could result in total engine failure while driving, putting driver and passengers at risk of injury or worse. Problem was confirmed by dealer on November 22, 2023 and vehicle is currently at dealer service center awaiting repair decision. My research shows that there have been many reported failures of this...

While driving 70 mph on freeway passing a semi the engine shut off. Had steering and braking but no power. Managed to pull over without getting hit. Dash message "put in park, press brake and press start. Major panic attack as we were 200 miles from major town in the desert. Started car drove about 5 miles and it did it again. Dealer claims to never heard of that problem. Since getting home I've not taken vehicle on freeway. Utterly terrifying.

Engine overheating, leaking coolant, Engine 3 misfire, apparently it is a common issue. I have two children I drive around every day and almost had an accident when my engine started overheating. Cost of repairs outweighs current value. Check engine light is constantly on because of this. Car shaking when starting up, etc. This is too common of an issue for it not to be recalled at this point. I have had this vehicle less than 1.5 years and I've already replaced the compressor, the spark plugs, cleaned the fuel injector and body, and have had a mechanic run diagnostics on it multiple times.

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share an issue I've been facing with my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, which I bought brand new back in 2017. Unfortunately, I'm currently experiencing a lack of heat while driving, and it turns out that the engine head gasket is blown and leaking coolant. It's quite disappointing to learn that this seems to be a common problem, with an ongoing lawsuit related to it.

Engine code for misfire fixed and still has a shake, looking like head gasket. Transmission jerks upon shifting.
#11553585 |
Had engine issues a few years back around 87,000 and was fixed at Chrysler in Sarasota FL. Rods and other engine parts had to be replaced and engine was running hot. On 11/4/23 our vehicle is again experiencing the same engine issue at 105,000 miles. From what I have read on threads many costumers have expressed similar issues. I have an appointment on 11/7/23 with the local dealership in Knoxville.
#11552854 |
I received a P0303 engine misfire code. I have noticed a very slow coolant leak. Thankfully I noticed the leak before the coolant ran out or else the car could have overheated and left me in a very dangerous situation. My mechanic ran a test and confirmed that there is a blown head gasket. My vehicle has ~85,000 miles and from what I have read that is very few miles to be having a head gasket fail.

I have a 2017 pacifica with 40,230 miles on it and has a blown head gasket .called chysler customer support to file claim on 10/12/23 .van is at dealership for a week now waiting to hear from chrysler

On or around September 11, 2023, our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica began to stutter and shake upon ignition. On September 27th, the high engine temperature alarm came up. The coolant reservoir was empty. We filled it up and scheduled an oil change and diagnostic. The Check engine line did not come on for the mechanic during the diagnostic and oil change. The oil change was on September 29th. Shortly after the oil change, the Check Engine line came on again, and on October 5th, the high engine temp alarm came on again. The coolant reservoir was empty again. I filled it again, and drove it to another location. Within a matter of hours, the coolant reservoir was empty again. I scheduled a maintenance visit with our local Chrysler Dealership. I told the dealership the Check Engine light was on and that the reservoir for coolant appeared to be leaking and I...

Bought the vehicle in 2020 (Second Owner) from a wholesale dealer and owned the vehicle for about 3 years. Bought with only 20K miles and currently has 55K on Odometer. Car one day wouldn't start. Had it towed to first Chrysler dealer and told it was a bad starter. Paid for starter and fuse replacement and told it filled the shop with smoke indicating a bad head gasket probably caused by a warped engine block. Had it towed to a second chrysler for addition opinion/look where they speculated it "dropped" exhaust/intake valve requiring a new engine/engine replacement. This vehicle is essentially a lemon and people are reporting many issues whith the 17-18 Chrysler Pacifica's. It has been in shops for over a month.

Need new engine after rough idling.
#11547523 |
When driving, car completely shuts down. Usually happens when we are slowing down or stopping, but has also happened when accelerating. No lights come on and never happens when we take it to a mechanic. Happened 10x today alone but 5x over last seven days. We thought it was an issue with the auxiliary battery, but continues to happen. 130k on 2017 Pacifica

Powertrain Stalls randomly when moving from first to second gear and when changing in and out of park. Vehicle also has loss of power and freezing electronics. The entertainment system and navigation system may stay frozen until vehicle is restarted and in some cases may not turn off even while vehicle is not in a powered state.

I received P258B warning and further diagnosis came to know that C0021-02 and C1252-92 warnings. While applying breaks i am getting hissing noise and break pedal pushes me back where i have to apply lot of pressure to stop the vehicle. This is happening only when i press the pedals hard. I did diagnosis and noticed that the break vaccum pump fuse gone and replaced the same again it blown. Then realized that that the Vaccum pump it self is not working and the same is ordered and replaced. Now the vaccum pump issue is fixed but still the break pedals are hard and getting hissing noise while applying breaks. Now i may need to change the break booster to get this fixed.

I'm writing to report a serious incident involving my Chrysler Pacifica with less than 70,000 miles. Recently, the engine light came on with error code P0303, leading to violent vibrations and power loss while I was driving my children to school. This hazardous situation nearly caused a major accident. A diagnostic at the dealer revealed a blown head gasket, raising concerns about the safety and reliability of this vehicle model. I believe this issue might not be isolated and could pose a widespread danger. I'm reporting this incident to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to request an investigation into potential design or manufacturing flaws that could endanger drivers and passengers. Safety must always be the top priority. Therefore, I am taking the initiative to report this incident to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) because I believe that it is imperative to investigate the extent of this...

Continue issue with stop/start system failure that drains batteries to the point of total power loss, even at high rate of speed. An audible ticking sound, engine misfires resulting in bucking and surging, decreased engine performance, hesitation, loss of power. Start/stop system has been investigated by dealership multiple times. Power loss and engine misfire were reported as the result of the start/stop system failure. However it has been a reoccurring problem with continued worsening symptoms. The safety of myself, my passengers and other travelers is at risk due to the unexpected bucking, surging, hesitation and power loss that occurs during traveling. Problem has not been reproduced at service center as it has been “solved” by replacing batteries and not investing further. Vehicle has been inspected by qualified mechanics. Warning lamps have recently alerted but the problem of engine bucking, power loss, surging, hesitancy have preceded the warning lamp. It has...

Misfire of cylinder 3 as many have reported. Chrysler stating car needs a new engine. Prior owner had warranty work done at 43k miles. At 60k miles, Chrysler diagnoses engine failure and replacement necessary. Chrysler and dealer denying any goodwill despite of history of problems with this vehicle and the Pentastar engine in 2017 Chrysler Pacificas. Engine light and high temp warning bounced on and off while on a highway. Exited to find no coolant, 600 miles after a $2000 tune-up. Added coolant but was losing coolant too. engine light back on. I am out a car, the money I owe on it or a $12k repair.

The check engine light came on, upon inspection at our mechanic we discovered our head gasket was blown. Searching for recalls online I found several other owners of Chrystler Pacifica that have the same issue of blown head gasket at relatively low mileage. Contacted Chrystler and there is no current recall for any of those components.

While driving, the car malfunctions stating to have the shifter serviced. All of the alerts start going off and it feels like my car isnt shifting properly. Some times when I start it, the shifter will not respond. I have taken it to be serviced and it seems to be electrical.

I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica that keeps dying. I bought my Pacifica new from the dealer and now it has 100K on it. Since we bought it, I has a tendence to dye on us from time to time. The past 5 years we have owed it, we have been through 4 batteries. This past week, my Pacifica decided not to start. The battery was only 8 months old. We had it towed to the dealer, where they said there was a problem with the sensors in the shift knob that goes into the transmission. The mechanic said, he has see a few of the same problems with 2017-2022 Pacifica's. The dealer said I would have to take it to a transmission place to have the transmission looked at. Sees like many Pacifica have this problem with the shift knob sensors.

The engine was having misfire on cylinder 5. This turned out to be a head gasket leak, the local Chrysler dealer confirmed the diagnosis and proceeded to replace the entire engine head. If this was not abruptly fixed, then the engine would overheat and lockup mid drive. There have been many other similar reports on this site indicating the same problem on either cylinder 3 or cylinder 5 -- these sit in the back of the engine bay (transverse engine) and get the hottest. There seems to be a general defect in the cooling causing very premature head gasket failure which can be a dangerous situation if not handled extremely promptly

Engine temperature suddenly rose to the point where an alarm appeared on the display (no prior warning or prior instance of this). Allowed temperature to cool, drove vehicle home gently. Subsequent examination showed coolant level in reservoir below minimum with no physical evidence of leakage. Obtained correct manufacturer-specified coolant, topped up and continued to monitor. Pattern developed where the coolant level would be at minimum after approximately 200 miles of driving, vehicle appeared to be operating normally otherwise. Continued to top up coolant level as necessary, still no sign of any physical leak. Vehicle then began to produce error codes for misfire on either Cylinder 1 or Cylinder 3 - no discernible “pattern” to the codes appearing or clearing. Vehicle was subsequently examined by an independent repair facility who determined that the cylinder head for cylinders 1, 3 and 5 is warped.

The van stopped while driving without warning in traffic, luckily I was able to coast to the side of the road and there was not a vehicle directly behind me or my family and myself would have been in an accident. Even now it does not have a check engine light on we had the battery checked and alternator and they are both good. I’m not sure what else would cause the vehicle to stop while driving with out warning. It completely turns off just suddenly without any warning. This is dangerous and could cause an accident. We are having it towed to the dealership today to hopefully repair whatever caused the dangerous shut off. I will revisit and if able upload whatever I am told the problem is.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Touring, twice in last 4 months got P0303 message (Cylinder misfire). Upon research turns out this is common issue, dealership confirmed that head gasket is leaking coolant into the 3rd cylinder and needs replacement.
#11542630 |
Engine stalled while making a right turn with incoming traffic. It felt as if the vehicle had gone in Neutral position. The vehicle was unresponsive to the throttle until I manually put it in Low gear (L) and then back up to Dive gear. I was looking into the recall and it sounds similar to U01.

At 83,000 miles the 2017 Pacifica needed new headgaskets, rocker arms, and camshafts. I am the first and only owner of the van and have been meticulous about maintenance. Apparently this is a known issue with the Pacifica. The dealership and an outside mechanic verified these issues with my Pacifica. Rough idle was the only warning something was wrong before the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership immediately.
#11541510 |
I have 2017 Pacifica with just under 80,000 miles on it. I had a check engine light come on which was a 5th cylinder misfire. I had the plugs/coils replaced and oil/filter done. After 2 days the service engine light reappeared with the same diagnosis(5th cylinder misfire). I took it back to the shop and they discovered coolant leaking and the smell of it burning. They believe it was a blown head gasket. The car is now at a Chrysler dealership to confirm the bad news. Chrysler needs to step up and resolve this issue with a recall or some type of reimbursement.
#11540677 |
Check engine light continues to come on and it gives the code “3rd cylinder misfire” even after multiple attempts to correct the problem. Has been determined there may be a crack in the engine block. Car only has 94,000 miles on it so this is too young for it to be happening. The engine runs rough continuously and I am afraid for the safety of myself and my 4 children that ride along with me daily.

The head gaskets were replaced at 107 miles before I purchased my van. Now here I am 20k miles later with another blown head. The vehicle is undrivable and left me, my wife and my kids stranded. Yes this has been confirmed by a qualified shop. No. Check engine light, misfire.

The vehicle will shut off randomly while in the drive position, and happens when in motion or stopped. THIS CAUSES A HUGE CONCERN as this is our family vehicle that Carrie’s our children. My wife was making a left hand turn in an intersection, with our kids in the Van and shut down on its own in the middle of the turn. We ensure all regular and required maintenance is completed on our vehicle to ensure the safety at all times and this is beyond our control. We took it to the shop and they don’t know what’s going on as it’s intermittently happening. I have read several others having the same issues. This is a huge safety issue that requires immediate attention, please help!

2017 Pacifica has a blown head gasket @80k miles (diagnosed by a Chrysler mechanic when our check engine light came on). The van has never overheated and has been well maintained/ serviced regularly.

Blown head gasket 2017 chrysler pacifica 82000 miles. Spark plugs replaced. All are black with heavy carbon buildup. Check engine light went on as did the engine stop start warning. Code read cylinder 5 misfire. Many people have had the same issue. Check out following thread. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

A head gasket leak caused coolent to enter a cylinder. The vehicle now suffers from hydrolock and the engine needs to be replaced.

We have 2017 Chrysler pacifica there's 96miles on it that my drives to work, after she came back from work this morning I took the car key so i can go to the car wash when started the car i notice the was shaking and there was a check engine light, so i scan the car there was three code on the car. P0420, P0303 and P0203. I checked online for the meaning. I saw that everyone with the same car had the same issue. And before this issue I been noticing low coolant so I always top up the coolant. I noticed everyone say is the head gasket that went bad. Base on all the information and the complaints people made regarding this code i don't need to take it to a dealership for diagnostic, I am sure it is the engine head gasket that's bad.

While driving on the highway, our car started to make a jerk, like it was having trouble shifting gears, which is weird because we were driving through Kansas and the road was smooth and flat. Then suddenly the car lost power, but did not turn off. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. We turned on the emergency flashers and pulled over to the shoulder, shifted into park and then turned the car off. We waited a few moments then restarted, everything appeared fine. We started to accelerate and merge back into the highway when it started to happen again. This time, our dash reported a message of "shift into p to start." We again pulled over, waited even longer, and restarted again. After about 5 miles, it did it again. After several occurrences of this, we eventually looked to have it towed to the nearest dealership. However, now it also has...
