2015 Chevrolet Silverado complete engine failure. At 143,000 miles the engine failed because of the displacement on demand fuel injection system/lifters. Lifter failed without warning, destroyed the camshaft, cam bearing and crank and crank bearings. Chevrolet/GM were no help at all and took on responsibility for building defective engines they knew would fail after the warranty expired. I ended up spending nearly $17,000 to have a remanufactured engine installed.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster started flickering, and the vehicle stalled. During several failures, the check engine warning light illuminated, and during other failures, there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated on several occasions that the vehicle restarted independently. The failure was an intermittent failure, but was a recurring failure. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The 6.2L AFM DOD caused the lifter failure in #7 which destroyed my motor causing $10,000 in damages. Junk lifters. Only way to fix is get rid of afm dod.
AFM/DFM on my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT had to lifters collapse without warning and no engine light was hole I had my 7 year old daughter and 10 year old son in the vehicle while I was driving. My kids got scared and I had to react quick and go into a drive way. While I was driving my vehicle gave out without warning and could’ve caused a serious accident to my kids and myself including other vehicles.
86K miles smelled gas. Dealer replaced one fuel injector on the 6 cylinder rail. At 108K miles, catastrophic engine failure caused by misfire in the #6 cylinder. No compression or diagnostic testing done at initial fuel injector replacement. It is now my understanding that it is good practice when replacing one fuel injector, all should be replaced. After truck was inoperable at 108K miles, ran a borescope into the 6 cylinder shaft and noticed massive wash and scoring. Goodwill from GM was denied for an engine swap. Subsequent diagnostic testing revealed low pressure in all cylinder heads. I don’t put a lot of miles on this truck per year and suspect the problem compounded over time without notice. There was gas mixture in the oil, however this issue was never brought to my attention during routine maintenance and oil changes. I know there were issues with the 6.2L and didn’t...
The 5.3 engine in the 2015 Chevy Silverado had lifter failure. The engine needed to be repaired and taken out of the truck. The engine needed a full repair of the lifters, camshaft, gaskets, etc. Which ended in a costly repair.
I have had a problem with the theft deterrent system which, shuts the truck down and issues a message saying "turn the driver side window down and then up". After 5 minutes the truck starts back up by itself? This has occurred sitting in Popeyes drive thru line in August 2024 in Benton Harbor, Mi. This has occurred 3 times in the past week, 09/25/25 driving on Garrett road it shut down during the entry into a "s curve" 09/26/25 driving into my drive way 09/28/25 driving into my drive way Took the truck into Wimberley Chevy dealer and they searched for error codes and checked some of the ground wires not connected properly and found the negative cable on battery was ok. I don't know if any other wire connectors were checked, however I have had this before and the dealer said they would have to keep the truck...
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine started shuddering and the vehicle decelerated unintendedly. Additionally, the check engine and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced, but the failure reoccurred. The contact was informed that the engine shudder was due to a faulty fuel management system, which caused the lifters to remain in the open or closed position. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 75,000.
2015 5.3 with afm related failure / lifter collapse still within warranty by mileage (5 yrs, 100,000 miles I think), out by years in service, was diagnosed by a GM authorized dealership by a GM Master Certified Technician and under the supervision of service manager. Issue Description On 6/18/2025, the dealership diagnosed a failure in the #7 lifter due to afm / afm related failure / lifter collapse. The vehicle’s engine, diagnosed at approximately 58,000 miles and minimal idle hours. While the GM Master technician is confident that only one side of lifters require immediate replacement, there is a possibility of damage to the camshaft lobe, which cannot be inspected without significant additional labor. There is also a concern about potential metal contamination in the oil, which could further impact the engine’s performance. I also have many documented repair orders indicating my concern with the transmissions performance.
Component that failed Lifter failure causing camshaft damage. I was driving my truck at the time the engine failure and loss of propulsion. The problem was later linked to lifter failure. Car started to lose power and surge forward while I was in oncoming traffic. I pulled over and had my truck towed to the Jamestown Chevy Dealership. I have had all of my services done at the certified Chevrolet dealership. Their professional diagnosis was lifter problem with camshaft damage. The vehicle was inspected by mechanics at Sierra Motors in Jamestown Ca. No prior warning to the vehicle failure. Once the truck lost propulsion and was surging the check engine light and road traction light came on.
I was driving my truck on a interstate when the torque converter broken and forced me to stop on a "No parking" area, The cars couldn't see me until I got really close to my car and almost caused an accident, the sheriff had to intervene and signal that there was a car stopped on the interstate, it wasn't the first time that it happened, it happened 5 times since I got the truck( I have it for 5 months) I already fixed it and replaced the torque converter but it's not safe to be on the side of the road every month, it need to be fixed because it can cause many accidents
My engine shakes when shifting into the V4 from the V6 and my transmission shifts hard as well as a dieseling affect when shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. Rear main seal was replaced 1000 miles ago and now has to be replaced again due to the rapid shaking of the V4 cylinder deactivation(which was a terrible way to make the reliable 4.3 Lt engine unreliable)
Experienced a problem with electrical theft deterrent system and it shut the vehicle off while driving. I tried to start the vehicle and nothing happened except it said theft deterrent system. I took the key out tried starting again and it turned over immediately. The dash said theft deterrent and I clicked dismiss but the dash icon (a car with a lock light) remained on. I then drove 11 miles home. I turned on my directional proceeded to brake upon approaching my driveway. As I attempted to turn the steering wheel the vehicle completely shut off. The info system stating theft deterrent active. I lost power steering and brakes. I needed to press the brakes with great force because the vehicle was headed towards the sidewalk and a road sign. Steering was virtually unresponsive. Vehicle stopped as the tires reached the curb and approximately 1 ft from the sign. Placed...
I bought this truck a little over a year ago. Mileage 89,392. 2 weeks later the truck started to run poorly, shaking badly, misfiring. Took it to the garage. They told me the had to replace coil packs one one side lifters and one push rod. Truck ran good for 1 year. I know this because I had just gotten it inspected. A couple days later the truck started doing the same thing. Now it’s in the garage again. They tell me the camshaft is shot and needs replaced including all the lifters. The truck now has just over 100,000 miles on it. The repair is about $6600.00. GM will allow the garage to do some work under a warranty type citation and GM will pay approximately $535.00. For a total of about $1000.00. Now my concern is this truck could break down on the highway and cause an accident...
The transmission went out with only 140,000 on it. It also has problems with shaking
Number 7 cylinder valve failed. “Good Morning Mr. [XXX] . I have some updates on your vehicle. Based on my technicians inspection cylinder 7 is misfiring. He removed valve cover and found a stuck rocker arm caused by collapsed lifter. may need camshaft will know further when engine is tore down.” Then they quoted an outrageous bill. This is an on going issue with General Motors. Why is this not being fixed by the corporation? The truck doesn’t even have 100k miles on it and it’s been kept up routinely. I am the original owner and feel that problem has been going on for over 10 years now. GM should be held accountable. lack of acceleration when going from 2nd to 3 gear. Lifter damage, push rod broken
While driving at 55-60 mph on Saturday, [XXX], the vehicle made a distinct engine sound and lost power, but continued to run with a pronounced misfire, and a ‘check engine’ light came on. Our safety was put at risk because we were merging into high speed traffic and I had to abruptly slow and move as far out of the travel lane as possible. I had the vehicle towed to Champion Chevrolet in Reno on Wednesday October 16 for evaluation. The mileage in was 44,252. I was told that the camshaft and some lifters had failed, and I opted to have the engine replaced with a remanufactured unit at the total cost to me of $14,660. I picked the vehicle up on 10/28/2024 with 44,259 odometer miles. I have since learned on the internet that this particular ‘Active Fuel Management (AFM)’ failure is known to Chevrolet corporate office and is...
Knocking noise in the engine , took it to the mechanic and he stated lifter failer
Vehicle shuts off when stopping. Everything goes dead. It will eventually start again, but very annoying. What happens when it shuts off going down the highway? No power steering or power brakes, that's what!
I heard a sharp click like metal on metal, then I lost all power from the engine. I was on the highway close to rush hour and I was trying to move to the right side of the road and get off on the shoulder, the engine would start long enough to get off the road and then that was it. The engine was dead. I called for a flatbed tow truck through my insurance. I had no idea as to what had happened. However, I have read many reports of engine failure concerning the 5.3 v8 engine which I have. The Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton pickup was towed on a flatbed truck to Chevrolet, They found that the engine had dropped a valve in the #7 cylinder and some rocker arms, etc also had broken. The final billing was $7092.89 I was in traffic going around 60mph when the...
I purchased a Brand new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Z71 in2015. While still paying on this vehicle I had an issue with the engine bogging down and it would almost die. It would jerk and shake terribly to the point it just shut down. I took to Royal Chevrolet and they found that it had a broken Valve spring on Cyl 7. This went on and on they had this vehicle for a total of almost 7 months before they put 1 last engine in it. The 1st thing I did was drove down From Michigan to North Carolina to visit my daughter. Plenty of Mountains and a lot of driving as I drove 14 hours straight by myself. The engine that they had just put in started Chugging and choking and it stalled on the highway going through the mountains and I was hit in the rear end and...
Engine lifter turned sideways and destroyed the cam shaft. Due to 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder change
I bought the truck around [XXX] from Barkau CDJR, Freeport IL. Two hours away from the dealer the truck went completely dead in traffic. A message appeared on the info screen that said roll down the drivers window and back up to reset the system when the truck finally restarted. Got home with it and called the dealer and let the know. In the next few weeks it happened a couple of more times. It was taken to Tapper Chevrolet in Paw Paw, MI to be serviced. The tech thought it was a problem in the fuse Block and replaced that, after that on the week end the truck was returned the problem happened 3 times. Took it back to Tapper's and they checked it again, had it for 4 days and could not replicate the problem. Kept having issues and took it to 1st Choice Automotive LLC in Dowagiac,...

With only 32,000 miles the active fuel management system went out. The lifters failed and caused internal engine damage. My vehicle was well maintained using only high quality synthetic motor oil. I am on the hook for over $5000 in engine repairs. This technology was a miserable failure and the consumer should not be held responsible for poor engineering.
At low speed power steering will cut off and kick in opposite direction, radio will blank out followed by service stabilitrak warning has happened multiple times in last few wks since first of Sept 2023
I have been having problems with my vehicle cutting off and I would jump start. It often gave be a theft code on the dash. Until one day it stops starting all together. Now to find out there is a recall on the electrical system I was told by my mechanic please contact me so I can get this resolved will be with out of transportation, paying insurance and a car note thank you.
Truck shuts down, power steering quits working and forces vehicle wheel back other direction, stablitrack light comes on, ac shuts down, truck loses power, sometimes completely shuts down while turning.
A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado seemed to be running rougher after an oil change. When inspected by dealership, Litha Chevrolet located 200 East Cypress Ave in Redding CA, they identified lower end knocking and lifter ticking noise. Also identified was PO300 was randomly missing and PO324 Knock Sensor performance. The dealership recommended total engine replacement, after reviewing the report. The 2015 Silverado is currently out of commission. It is not roadway safe. The Silverado has been serviced regularly as recommended and has not been in any collisions in the past. The truck has had one owner previously, my father, who left me the truck when he perished. I relied on the truck for daily and extended transportation for myself and my children. I have maintained excellent care of the 2015 Silverado with regular maintenance and services. There is no explanation of this issue other than it was caused by faulty equipment...
AFM active fuel management caused Engine failure.
There a recall (14858) for specific problem with the fuel pump. I have the exact problem as the recall but my vin is not in the database.
Truck stalles when wheel is turned at idle or low speed. No warning just dies. No problem restarting.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The mechanic contacted an unknown dealer for parts and was advised that the parts were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 5.3 liter engine developed coolant leak. Took vehicle to Chevrolet dealer and they said the radiator was failing. According to the service advisor, this was a result of the thermostat "over cycling". They also said GM had a recall for this exact problem for the 2014 models but not for my vehicle. Cost of new radiator and replacement of the defective thermostat was over $1,200.

2015 Chevy Silverado, 62,300 miles. While driving at highway speeds. The air condition compessor locked up. Causing the engine to die and causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. I was unable to brake in a timely manner and had to swerve to avoid stopped traffic. It seems there are thousands complaining of the same issue online. There was no warning. I have contacted the dealer and they say there is no recall.
I am having issues with my transmission. When I first turn on the truck in the morning, put it in gear, and lightly accelerate the truck accelerates way too fast then cuts out the power. It is enough to throw me forward or back in my seat and it honestly is frightening. I am also having problems with the vehicle shifting incorrectly causing me to have no power or a sudden surge of power. This is usually when i have slowed down and them am trying to accelerate again. Also, When I am slowing down to stoplights, the vehicle will occasionally shift down to too low of a gear and act like i am slamming on the brakes. I have had several close calls with this truck due to this issue. Gm knows about the issue and has refused to recall the vehicles that are having these problems. They are...
steering and braking stops working during low speed. AC stops working and several components flash a warning message Trailer hitch and stabilizer and engine light appears sporadically. It shows that I do not have recalls but I believe the repairs in the past were not done correctly. old software or a electrical short from an faulty part!!!!!
Currently, the AC is no functioning properly. Mechanic states that the hose leading to the compressor that's mounted towards the radiator is cracked and he can see oil from the AC system that has leaked out over time. Parts are being ordered to replace and repair so that the AC system will work properly. Improper AC function is not acceptable during the spring/summer months, and AC is needed to be able to cool the vehicle down There were no warning lamps or messages. We determined the system was low on coolant because it was not cooling properly.
