Car has a burnt cylinder from excessive oil consumption due to poor piston ring design. These engines are prone to failure to do carbon buildup on the cylinders which leads to poor PCV performance to exacerbate the problem. Audi dealership has confirmed my cylinder 3 has a burnt valve and requires a new engine.

Catastrophic Engine failure while driving on highway with family. System gave error codes DTC P054A, DTC P0301, DTC P0017. Vehicle was not drivable. Always serviced with oil and filter change at recommended service intervals at authorized Audi dealer. Never showed any signs of malfunction or warning lamps prior to this incidence. Brought it to a mechanic specializing in European cars and diagnosis was the Engine has failed completely and needs new engine.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety issue I experienced with my vehicle. Shortly after starting to drive, about 2 miles from my home, while traveling at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to shake violently and came to a complete stop at the intersection of Crescent Street and Astoria Boulevard. At that moment, I lost all control over the steering wheel—it completely locked up. The dashboard displayed the message: “Drive System Malfunction – Contact Service.” These diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) appeared: •P2179 •P025C •P0087 •P0306 This incident posed a major safety risk, as I was unable to steer or move the vehicle in a high-traffic area. I am very concerned that this could happen again or to other drivers under more dangerous conditions. Please investigate this matter as it may indicate a serious defect that could affect others.

My 2017 Audi Q7 Prestige 3.0T 6Cyl GAS CREC Supercharged has experienced repeated, serious failures involving the engine, powertrain, and fuel system. - At 72,000 miles, the vehicle developed coolant leaks under the supercharger, a failed water pump, and soaked drive belts. Repairs included multiple hoses, gaskets, and thermostat replacement. -Shortly after, repeated PCV/Oil system failures caused oil leaks, warning lights, and engine shaking. Repairs included PCV system, oil separator, valve cover gasket, breather pipes, and new spark plugs. - at 111,000 miles, the low-pressure fuel pump and relay failed, causing the vehicle to stall and lose all power while driving- a major safety risk. -Most recently, the engine developed a severe misfire in cylinder #4. Compression testing confirmed abnormally low compression (15 psi) due to a suspected cracked valve seat. The vehicle cannot be repaired without a complete engine replacement, quoted at ~$20,000. Safety Impact: - Vehicle has stalled...

The issue is related to Audi TSB 2048402/3. 2017 Audi Q7 3.0T. First the an engine light appears, then get Drive System Malfunction Warning appears, then car misfires, then car goes into limp mode causing the car to rapidly slow down (while driving on a highway!!!!!). This is is common issue on the 2017 Audi Q7, code is P05A000 Active Grill Shutter "A" Stuck on. Which then triggers the Drive System Malfunction, misfire, and limp mode. Audi will not repair due to mileage on vehicle. Concern is this is a know issue and a safety concern.

The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 40 MPH, the front end started shaking violently, with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The following messages "Drive Malfunction and Oil Consumption" were displayed. The contact immediately pulled over and had the vehicle towed to a local independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was faulty due to oil consumption and needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

The gasket seals and the seals on the cylinder are not sealed causing fuel to peak from fuel injectors
#11653749 |
According to the dealer’s diagnosis, a burnt and broken valve caused the car to shake violently while I was driving on the highway with my family, including our three children. Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights or error messages. Only after the shaking began did a “Drive System Malfunction” alert appear on the dashboard.

My engine just failed after over a year of having to put oil in. The car has 77K miles and has been regularly maintained. Audi used this as a "demo car" and after purchase we immediately had to put oil in and were told verbally this is not an issue. The excessive engine oil consumption caused this catastrophic engine failure our an independent and trusted mechanic reports the engine has failed and cylinder number five only has 30 pounds of pressure. Please advise on what I can do with Audi for repair. We also have a 2019 and are fearful this will happen to that car as well. Thank you.

2017 Audi Q7 started consuming oil at 40,000 miles. At 70,000 miles consumption increased to quart every 3,000 miles. At 100,000 miles a quart every 1,000 miles. At 110,000 miles a quart every 40p to 600 miles. This is due to a very well known and documented piston ring issue. Audi offers to do nothing and while I was in warranty they claimed a quart of oil every 1,000 miles was within expected tolerance. This is ridiculous and terrible for the environment. Audi needs to stand behind their vehicles. So may complaints in Audi forum on exact issue.

I am reporting a serious issue with the 2017 Audi Q7 involving excessive oil consumption. The vehicle burns 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles or less, requiring me to constantly add oil between regular oil changes to avoid engine damage. This is not normal and poses a serious safety risk if the engine runs dry during operation. Audi denied my buyback request without inspecting the vehicle or reviewing service records. Instead, their solution has been to provide free oil top-offs, which proves they are aware of the problem but are avoiding a permanent fix or recall. Other Audi Q7 owners, even with newer models and low mileage, report the same defect. This is a manufacturing defect that makes the vehicle unreliable and unsafe for normal driving. This can cause the vehicle to stall or stop suddenly while driving, especially at high speeds or in traffic. That’s a major safety...

My 2017 Audi Q7 3.0T with 99k miles and it consumes oil excessively. I am having to add a quart of oil about every 500-600 miles. My local german auto repair shop has told me, in my case that it is extreme & I should be worried. I’ve seen many other people with the same engine with oil consumption & I know it can cause the engine to fail. This needs to be addressed by someone due to how common this problem is with these engines.
#11648603 | Fire
The car caught fire and burnt to to the frame. The message that came on the dash board before it caught fire was camera. I told Audi and they disregard all of that. They told me they were going to check or do investigation and the only thing I was told after looking for answer was this! These people know my insurance was state minimum so everyone put aside our safety concerned… Thank you for your continued patience while allowing Volkswagen Group of America the opportunity to review the subject Audi Q7 bearing the Vehicle Identification Number, [XXX] . Inspection of the subject Audi Q7 was conducted on September 6, 2023 at Mac’s Towing in Dania Beach, FL. Our investigation found no sign or suggestion of any manufacturer defect or shortcoming present with the vehicle. While the root cause is unknown, we would see the damages as remaining an insurance...

2017 Audi Q7 Premium Plus. 85000 miles. The car runs normal and has no warning lights and has been regularly services at Audi dealership. 1. Rear driver side spring broken. This is stated as a common problem with this model as researched on Audi Forums. 2. Engine burning excessive oil. Have to add a quart every 500 miles. This is also stated as a common problem with this model as researched on Audi Forums. Both incidents have a potential safety concern as a damaged suspension and engine can be detrimental for driving

Drive system malfunction warning while driving on the highway at 75 mph and the car began sputtering, lugging, jerking and had to be manually shifted to get it safely off the highway. If we had been in traffic we would have been rear ended as the car drastically lost speed on the highway. Dealership initial diagnosis was a misfire in cylinder 4. Upon further inspection we were told that a piece of the exhaust manifold had broken off resulting in catastrophic engine failure and we needed to replace the long block at a quote of $32,000. Car had been serviced only at the Audi dealer and all Audi care maintenance had been completed. We had informed the dealer that the car was burning oil on two previous service visits and we were adding a quart every 1000 miles or so and we were told that was normal for a 2017...

2017 Audi Q7 with approximately 112K miles consuming oil at a rate of approximately 1qt per 500-700 miles. Misfire occurred on highway and then cleared overnight. Took to dealer and had them swap all coil packs and spark plugs. Approximately 500 miles later, multiple misfires in cylinders 3,5, and 6 and loss of compression while driving on highway at 70 mph. Vehicle taken to dealership where they completed diagnostics. 0 psi compression in cylinder 6, damaged cylinder walls, and broken valve. Cost of repair estimated at $25K.

Engine malfunctioned with 126,292 miles on it after always servicing it at dealer. Diagnosis was "broken valve". This was after communicating with dealer regarding excessive oil consumption and "drive system malfunction". Dealer repaired spark plugs.

Oil consumption issue began June 2021 with my 2017 Audi Q7 with the 3.0 engine, we were at 78,841 miles. Our vehicle was always serviced at the dealer on the recommended schedule. The dealer stated high oil consumption of 1 quart per 1,000-2,000 miles was normal. The high oil consumption issues continued. At 99,559 miles the car began shaking on the way home from a routine oil change. They found cylinder 3 spark plug covered in oil and replaced all spark plugs to clear misfires. At 104,002 miles the N428 oil pressure regulation valve was replaced, which seemed to improve oil consumption temporarily, but gradually got worse with frequent top offs. On 1 December 2024 at 123,616 miles the car started to shake while traveling at 70mph on the interstate, with the engine lights on. The dealer found crusted spark plugs and identified that cylinder 1 had a burnt/broken exhaust...

Driving with the family on interstate 81South when suddenly the car went from riding smoothly to a rough rumbling sensation. Then all sorts of alarms sounded and the engine light, oil light and system malfunction indicator light came on simultaneously. We pulled over immediately and turned the car off. We looked in the manual to check the severity of the indication lights. We wanted to determine if we could drive to the nearest exit. We started it back up to see if it was some sort of glitch. It remained so thankfully we were right near an exit and exited and called for roadside service. It was towed from Christiansburg, VA back to Roanoke Audi at 2006 Peterscreek Rd Roanoke, VA 24017 on Nov 9th. The dealership concluded that cylinder 1 was burned out with a possible damaged long block assy. I have had all services and taken great care...

Oil consumption issue began June 2021 with my 2017 Audi Q7 with the 3.0 engine. Dealer advised this was normal for high performance engines, and it could continue where every 1,000-1,500 miles would need a quart of oil. Vehicle was serviced at the dealer on their regular recommended schedule. With continued oil consumption issues this past year they did part 1 of their oil consumption test September of 2024. A few weeks later the car started to shake when started and the start/stop system malfunction light came on. In cylinder 3 they found oil on the spark plug and changed out the spark plug and ignition coil. A week later the car began shaking again and they performed part 2 of their oil consumption test. It showed oil consumption a 3.61 quarts per 1,000 miles. They then performed a flush of the engine, and said that cylinder 3 was burned...

The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil level warning light illuminated with a message that the engine was 1-quart low on engine oil. The contact added 1-quart of engine oil. However, after driving 1,000 miles, a message indicated that the engine was 1-quart low on engine oil. The contact became aware that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The low oil warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.

I have a 2017 Audi Q& Prestige. It started using more oil after 103,000 miles to the tune of 1 qt per 10000 miles. I checked on line and there was many complaints about this on this and different models. People have said it costs around 11,000.00 dollars to fix whatever the problem is. After a period of time, as reported by various on line complaints, the engine starts to stutter and miss. Plugs begin to foul and seat rings for plugs become unreliable and start leaking. It seems to me there should be a recall as these vehicles are very expensive and boost reliability.
#11609698 |
Oil consumption increased over time to 1qt per 400 miles causing engine misfire in cyclinder 5 then 2,3. Engine now requires exhaust valve replacement and or complete replacement or overhaul at 140k mileage. Problem started at 90k miles.

Engine oil consumption, suv requires a quart of oil in between oil changes. Also head light gives warning sign of the side marker being faulty.

I bought my 2017 Audi Q7 on November 16, 2023 (Used) and a couple of days after putting the headlights on Auto I get a message pop up "Front left side marker light defective See owner's manual". Also kept getting a low oil message. This model have no oil stick so I put about a 1/2 qt of oil in it to see if the message goes away. It goes away for a few hours. The vehicle basically stopped running leaving myself and kids on the side of the road in the winter while we wait for a tow truck. After getting it towed to Mentor Audi dealership, they gave me the bad news that the engine needed to be replaced. My engine has been replaced and documents can be sent upon request. After doing some research, I found out that these are common issues with the 2017 Audi Q7....

PCV valve and PCV solenoid failure. Covered under an Audi extended warranty for 2013-2016, but not 2017. Exactly same failure.
#11573493 |
I got the checking engine malfunction. took it to the dealer for dianogtic found code P052E001 PCV ( crankcase breather valve fault and it need to be replace because it also caused the emission issue). I found it was under extentison warranty to 10 year or 120000 miles , I contacted Audi and they said my VIN is not eligible to the warranty. I believed they should provide the extension warranty for all of their vehicles.

I was driving on the freeway at 60 MPH when pushing on the gas pedal, the Audi Q7 2017 started to de-accelerate from 60 - 30 and then went lower. The gas pedal then locked while still on a lane on the freeway and luckily I was able to quickly move to the shoulder of the freeway. From there my car proceeded to not start and kept flashing low battery, telling me to put it into drive. I could not put it into drive to start the car. There were NO WARNINGS as the car lost speed on the freeway and a mechanic has determined it is the fuel pump. This was a very scary incident as my two young children and dog were in the car and if I hadn't been able to move to the side quickly, we would have been stopped in the middle of a busy...

Cylinder 2 began to misfire at highway speeds. Diagnosed with a burnt exhaust valve in the engine. Possibly also due to the high oil consumption of greater than 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles.

Engine mounts are leaking at 118,000 mi
#11556955 |
We purchased a 2017 Q7 with low milage. At around 75k miles the engine started consuming oil every 1,200 miles, when previously it never required an oil change before the regularly scheduled service. The dealer always said "that is 'in spec'". This went on for over a year. Then, when we were driving cross-country for thanksgiving in 2022, the engine made a major concussive noise and we lost power while driving on the freeway at around 70mph. This almost caused a high speed collision. It was winter and we had the entire family in the car. we took it to the dealership, and the service tech recommended a compression test and borescope. No carbon build-up was found. Pressure was 'ok' in all cylinders. There were codes showing a fuel injector misfire, so the dealer recommended replacing all of them. The repair was done, but we've continued to have excessive oil...

Engine mounts are failing on Audi Q7's at high rates just out of warranty. This is resulting in costly repairs to owners at extremely low mileage. On mine the engine mounts were shot at 54k miles and results in clunking from the engine moving around and shifting issues in the transmission. Audi is aware of the issues and is choosing to ignore it.
#11552980 |
Start/Stop system malfunction. The vehicle gave me this warning and the vehicle almost stopped completely in the interstate while doing 65mph. The warning disappeared after couple of times of turning the car back on, but it appeared once again. It looks that their are many complaints and a class act lawsuit on Audi about this problem but no recalls. It's dangerous and really mind blowing that nothing has been done on this issue.
#11523005 |
Car issued an alert for Low Coolant, I checked next morning only to find that the coolant tank was empty. This warning could have alerted long back when the level fell below "Min" marker. Owners cannot notice this leak because the coolant doesn't drip on the floor. Took it to an independent service center who alerted me about this issue. I researched and noticed that there's been a lot of complaints on forums for 2017 Audi Q7 3.0 for coolant leak cause by the water pump, which always needs replacement. The replacement costs by AUDI are upwards of US $1300. This issue seems like a regular pattern and can cause an engine failure. AUDI should take responsibility and fix these cars.

Vehicle was parked and went out to start it and coolent was all over ground under car. Water Pump blew on Audi with only 25,000 miles on it. Currently a class action on the Q7 3T stating the water pumps keep going out on new vehicles or vehicles with low mileage. Now the malfunction light will not go out and repair shop said its an emissions issue.

Engine coolant leak due requiring a water pump and thermostat replacement. Vehicle has 53,621 miles.
#11501140 |
During a state inspection, the technician discovered that the water pump was damaged and was leaking coolant onto the engine. The coolant overflow was below minimum, but no low coolant lights appeared on the dash. The repair cost me $1200 out of pocket, and no assistance was offered as the vehicle is just out of warranty. This issue is commonly documented as highly prevalent in the 2017 Q7, among other models--poor design of the pump is resulting in premature failures. There was a class action law suit against other Audi models that is providing relief to consumers and extending warranty for this issue. With the number of failures being reported, please extend this support to Audi Q7!

REAR COIL SPRING BROKEN- BOTH SIDES WATER PUMP LEAKING AT 70K MILES
#11497389 |
Water pump failure. A very well known issue with this particular part and the same exact vehicle as mine, also with lots of other Audi models.
#11494951 |
The water pump was leaking while I was on the highway and smoke came out from the engine blocking my view. Had to make an emergency maneuver and pull over immediately.
#11494082 |
Abnormally early water pump failure. This is a known Audi-wide issue with other recalls on different engines. A substandard OEM water pump is used from the factory
#11491420 |
Water pump failure at 46k miles.

Purchased 2017 Q7 sometime back in August of 2019. the car had about 42k miles on it as it was a used CPO car. After purchase the car was driven around 8900 miles suddenly the warning sign and sound occurs to warned to add engine oil. This is not supposed to happen as the car can drive up to 10k miles in single oil change. Went to the dealer right away & they blame on the tech saying " he must have not added enough oil my mistake. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,6th time I experienced the issue I reported them and they always came back something related my driving style, or behavior that is causing the issue and nothing at their fault. They always says something to avoid to look further to the problem or to avoid/admitted their mistake ( Manufacture). I didn't even realize that they are probably trying...

The water pump, thermostat housing, thermostat, and coolant crossover pipe were replaced to address a coolant leak issue. This was a repair done outside of the warranty at a cost of $2025. The mileage on the car was 65893.

This car has been regularly serviced by Audi for it’s entire lifespan. Today during service, the Audi technician discovered that the water pump had cracked and was leaking coolant onto the engine. The repair will cost me $1500 out of pocket, and neither the dealership nor Audi will offer any assistance. This issue is commonly documented as highly prevalent in the 2017 Q7, among other models.

The contact owns a 2017 Audi Q7. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the vehicle was hesitating while driving. The vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The add oil indicator light was illuminated. The contact purchased 4 to 5 additional quarts of oil. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was working as designed and there were no leaks found. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again for an oil consumption test. The contact was informed the vehicle was consuming 1 quart of oil. The recommendation was to install a condenser breather. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
#11439173 |
At 35,400 miles, the car indicated low coolant via dash message. Audi dealer then diagnosed as a leaking water pump that requires replacement. Continued driving could have led to complete engine failure, since the engine would overheat and be destroyed by a lack of coolant. This type of water pump failure should never happen at such low mileage, yet this is a common problem with Audi models. I had to pay out of pocket for repairs.
#11438114 |
Car has 50k miles on it and was told by the dealer the water pump needs to be replaced!
