Consumer Description

2017 Ford Edge Titanium (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered catastrophic engine failure at 81,571 miles in September 2025 due to coolant intrusion into cylinders caused by cracked intake manifold - a known Ford manufacturing defect. Total repair cost: $9,034.66 for complete long-block engine replacement at Crain Buick GMC, Conway, AR. KNOWN DEFECT: Ford documented this problem in TSBs 19-2208, 19-2346, and 22-2229 (dated 2019-2022) affecting 2015-2018 Edge with 2.0L EcoBoost engines. Design flaw in engine block sealing surface allows coolant to leak into cylinders, causing misfires, white smoke, and complete engine failure. Ford redesigned engine for later models, confirming the defect. FORD PROVIDED ASSISTANCE FOR IDENTICAL DEFECT IN OTHER ENGINES: Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12 providing 7 years/84,000 miles no-cost repairs for 1.5L engines with identical coolant intrusion problem, but provided NO assistance for 2.0L engines. TIMING: My warranty expired February 2025. Engine failed September 2025 (only 7 months later) at 81,571 miles due to Ford's manufacturing defect, not wear and tear. I received no notification from Ford despite their documented knowledge since 2019. SAFETY RISKS: Engine fire risk, sudden loss of power while driving, potential loss of vehicle control, stranding in dangerous locations. WIDESPREAD PROBLEM: Service shops report multiple Edge vehicles per week with identical failure. Hundreds of documented cases online. Ford only issues TSBs for systematic problems affecting numerous vehicles. SMITH FORD DEALER CONWAY, AR DECLINED TO HELP: Despite knowing this is a documented Ford defect covered by TSBs. REQUEST: NHTSA investigate and mandate safety recall for 2015-2018 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost engines. Require Ford to notify owners, provide no-cost repairs, and reimburse customers who already paid. This defect affects thousands of vehicles and has cost owners $6,000-$10,000+ each for Ford's design flaw. SEE INVOICE REPAIR: $9034.66 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
