Consumer Description
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the engine started to overheat. There was an abnormal odor of coolant being distributed through the vents. The contact was able to pull over and noticed that the temperature gauge was past high. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was like Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2346 and 19-2208. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined related the failure to DTC: P0302 - Cylinder #2 misfire was detected. The spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into the engine, and an engine replacement was recommended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 55,908.
