The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The contact stated that upon adding coolant to the vehicle, the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption. The contact related the failure to an unknown Customer Satisfaction Program; however the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The contact used a vehicle scanner and retrieved diagnostic trouble codes indicating that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
