I purchased a 2022 Volkswagen Taos from TOM‘s VW, Union, New Jersey on Sep 23, 2023. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had approximately 19000 miles. Unfortunately, I experienced the engine light illuminating after starting the car at the end of October 2024. I brought this issue to Tom's VW's attention in Nov, 2024 - 1) I made an appointment with Tom's VW, and the first time I went to the dealership was on Nov 2, 2024. Since then, we have come to Tom's VW dealership to fix the same issue at least 6 times, the latest one was on May 15, 2025. 2) The car has been kept in the dealership's shop since it was drop off at the dealership on May 15, 2025. It's still kept in the dealership's shop now. 3) Several times we were told the problem was resolved and we could pick up the...
I am reporting a repeated safety-related defect involving exhaust intrusion into the cabin of my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle experienced loss of power, coolant loss, and engine warning indicators, and was serviced twice by Volkswagen Southtowne in Sandy, Utah. First Incident – Vehicle Returned as “Safe to Drive” During the first repair visit, the dealer diagnosed issues involving the manifold/exhaust area, head gasket, coolant system, and catalytic converter. After keeping the vehicle for an extended period, the dealership informed me the vehicle was “safe to drive,” although the repair was not fully completed. I relied on this representation. After the vehicle was returned to me, I began experiencing significant physical symptoms only while driving the vehicle, including nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. These symptoms occurred repeatedly during operation and would subside after leaving the vehicle. At the time, I did not understand that these symptoms were caused by exhaust entering...
2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5T (DNKA engine, <60,000 miles, <5 years old) developed internal coolant leak from cylinder head gasket. On 11/03/2025 Smith Volkswagen, Wilmington, DE (RO 692953/1) performed coolant system pressure test and confirmed leak coming from cylinder head gasket area at rear of engine below turbo (exactly as shown in Figures 1 & 2 of VW TSB 15-23-01). Dealer noted possible related engine damage that may require complete engine replacement in addition to head gasket. Vehicle available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: loss of coolant can cause sudden engine overheating, power loss, or seizure while driving, creating risk of crash, stranding, or fire. Symptoms began November 2025 with “Check Coolant” warning; reservoir was below MIN. Added coolant once; warning has not returned, but pressure test proved ongoing internal leak. No visible external drips. This exact failure is a known manufacturing defect per Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletin 15-23-01...
My head gasket is leaking and I saw that VW had other complaints about the engine code DNKA for year 2022 and after July 2023 the company had made a decision to redesign the head gasket and coatings. I don’t understand how this isn’t a recall just yet especially knowing that Taos 2022, has many problems than an average car. The dealership says I’m responsible for paying it but yet I have proof that the design of the gasket of my vehicle was a manufactured defect. Please please do something about this or help us that have purchased. I’ve invested 20k into this car and for me taking it in 3,4 times a year isn’t realistic and reliable.
I've been having issues with my car since I bought it. I've taken the car in for the Power Train System, and the codes that come up are P0456 and P2421. This car has a mind of its own. I've driven it and it started lagging, and I went into limp mode just crossing a 2 way stop with ongoing traffic. I don't understand how VW doesn't address this problem when I know that if anyone were in my shoes, they wouldn't have dealt with this, going to the dealership 3,4 times a year when I should only be going in frequently for oil changes. The dealership says after my warranty is over, I have to pay out of pocket, but I don't see why, when it's been an ongoing issue and VW needs to have an extended warranty, because I know I am not the only one with issues....
Vehicle lost power control due to engine malfunction. This was caused by a leak in the coolant head gasket. This is an issue that Volkswagen has already identified with these cars, but has neglected to recall.
Stepping in the gas, the car takes about 4-5 seconds before it speeds up after each stop. When pulling out of a drive, the car sputtered and the check engine light was flashing and the Start/stop error came on. The delayed driving happens every time I drive the car. Only have about 44k miles on it. I have had multiple people almost rear end me. I have had the car for about 3 weeks now.
Went into Volkswagen dealership as my low coolant light came on. I called early June, they couldn't get me in until June 17th, when I was then told my warranty was barely a week expired. My head gasket needs replaced and Volkswagen is refusing to cover this, knowing full well this has been an issue on thousands of these vehicles.
Light came on for leak detection pump failure upon starting car. Drove to dealer directly immediately upon looking up indicator light. Felt as if care was misfiring Deal found fuel pump in need of recall repair. Dealer also found coolant leak and recommended engine teardown. Diagnostic found block deck warp over permissible range 0.05m. Requiring full engine replacement. No previous indication of issue, leaking, or over heating. No cause of warp known or can be given. 60K miles on car.
Car was purchased in August 2021. In August 2022 it was taken in for service at Onion Creek VW in Austin for multiple occurrences of alerts for low coolant level. The dealership topped off the coolant reservoir and said there are no visible leaks and refused to further diagnose. Then in June 2025 with 22,000+ miles the same occurred again. Took it to Vanguard VW in Austin and they diagnosed a bad head gasket.
When taking the vehicle in for service at Safford Brown Volkswagen to replace a faulty EVAP module, we were notified that the cylinder head gasket was leaking and would need to be replaced. This leaking coolant and crack in the head gasket can lead to early engine failure. This seems to be a consistent issue due to a faulty part specific to this vehicle year and make. Volkswagen has released a TSB on the issue but is not offering any recalls or free service to fix the faulty part they produced. The TSB was released on 17th of August 2023.
The engine head gasket failed and started leaking coolant has been a common issue after only a few thousand miles. My dealer has three VW Taos’s in for head gasket repairs today alone.
My EPC warning light has come on for the second time in last year. I reported this to VW less than year ago and car just stalled out in middle of very busy intersection so going back to VW again tomorrow
- The head gasket failed twice in less than one year on my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle also experienced a fuel pump failure, rear brake pad wear down to metal-on-metal, and the underbody panel detached while driving due to being improperly secured after a dealership repair. Yes, the components may be available for inspection upon request through the dealership. - The second head gasket failure resulted in coolant loss, which can lead to engine overheating and potential failure while driving. The underbody panel detached while I was on the freeway, posing a serious safety hazard to me and other drivers. The brake system issues, including vibration and scraping noises, raise concern about brake reliability and stopping ability. - Yes, all issues were confirmed and addressed by authorized Volkswagen dealerships: DeMontrond Volkswagen (Conroe, TX) and Momentum Volkswagen (Houston, TX). - The vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times by...
A vehicle randomly shuts off when stopped in a red light and you have to start it back
Car dies/stalls while in drive when adaptive is engaged. Entertainment / navigation system has quit working despite multiple times I’ve reset. Acceleration is dangerous at times and accelerates too quickly. Also seems to be sluggish due to fuel injector issues requiring me to press gas pedal harder to maintain speed. Windows don’t always respond to button and seem to stall. Check engine light keeps coming on despite being cleared . I only have 28,000 miles.
Multiple times while driving the check engine light has come on, followed by some shaking then the car shuts off. Taking it into the dealership for service is of no help as they claim the car is fine, but this keeps happening. Very dangerous and if you read online and complaints on this board this is not an isolated event.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 MPH, the check engine and ECM warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated and would only operate in LIMP Mode. During the failure, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally, and it was difficult for the driver to control the steering. The vehicle was driven directly to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with a cylinder #3 misfire. The cause of the misfire was not determined. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 38,000.
It’s happened 2x in owning the 22 Vw Taos. The car will start be good for about 5 seconds, then car shakes like the engines misfiring, check engine light flashes, steering does become locked a little and difficult. Once you start up again it’s fine. Happened in Nov 2024 and today 3/8/2024
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed above 10 MPH, with the check engine and the EPC warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The mechanic linked the failure to failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V214000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), 21V651000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), and Technical Service Bulletin 1523/01. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not covered under recall and that the vehicle had exceeded the mileage for coverage. The failure mileage was 67,168.
The radiator was broken due to a rock hitting it while simply driving down the road out of town and wasn’t covered by warranty. My engine started overheating and has been overheating every now and then ever since now due to coolant leaking because of a head gasket leak. Oh and that’s not covered by warranty now either.
Purchased 2022 VW Taos SEL new from dealer. Vehicle began using coolent triggering the coolent warning light. Engine light activated and dealer states coolent is leaking from the rear of the head gasket and is affecting the air flow system. Safety risk of engine over heating causing damage or failure. Research shows this is a common problem and a faulty head gasket was used in production. Vehicle is no longer in warranty and no recalls have been issued.
Engine has ceased at 67000 miles a mechanics has searched my VIN id number and 3 recalls have come back but Volkswagen says they are not applicable to my vehicle. I’d like to confirm this if possible
Since I have bought my car, I’ve had continuous problems. The car has stalled multiple times the most recent time that it stalled. It was in the middle of the highway leaving me in a very unsafe situation and after that happened, I took it to the dealer ship and only then were they able to identify that there was a problem with the starter, even though the previous two times that I took the car to the dealership since it stalled they weren’t able to find a problem I’ve had a valve replaced on the car I’ve had tires replaced on the car i’ve had the brakes changed multiple times even though I’ve only had the car for three years my windshield wipers have been randomly going off on the car for the full three years of me having it and the service center at Volkswagen has not been...
I own a 2022 VW Taos SE (Purchased New), it has been using up coolant, roughly every 2 months I needed to fill it. Took it to the dealership and they said there is a small leak in the head gasket, which they advised is common for the Taos and advised that VW is aware of this issue. However, when I contacted VW, they are unware of the issue with the Taos. I have a scheduled date to replace the head gaskets, however with VW unaware of the issue my worry is that it will happen again when my car is out of warranty. My safety worry is that my head gaskets will go, ruining my engine, breaking down on the highway with my infant on board. The smoke that would appear from a blown head gasket would impair other drivers visibility possibly causing an accident. What component or system...
Head gasket leak. Went from zero issues with coolant whatsoever to the car smelling like it was burning after being turned on and being deemed unsafe to drive requiring a tow to the dealership for repair. Once there, head gasket replacement deemed necessary. Seems to have been a very an abrupt change. Luckily in this instance the car was parked and did not actually catch fire but I am concerned for my safety if this would have happened while the vehicle was in motion.
We received a warning light stating to check coolant system. The dealership stated it was a leak at the head gasket. Our mechanic told us to not drive the car due to the risk of this condition.
The radio system constantly blanks out and will not come back on for hours even after trying to turn it off and back on. There are major issues that point to the recalls that are known for the 2022 VE Taos however, there are no recalls for my specific vehicle. The vehicle check engine light is constantly on and there is constantly an issue with the fuel system. The Taos has issues with acceleration and shifting into other gears. The Taos now has a ticking sound and is at the mile range of (50,000- 60,000) which others who have complained about engine failures. This has been a current and ongoing problem with this vehicle and has cause a headache.
I recently started experiencing a delay in acceleration after my car has stopped at a light or stop sign. The car doesn’t immediately accelerate when the gas pedal is used but then it catches and takes off lunging forward very quickly. The has caused many close calls especially with left hand turns. I have almost been hit multiple times due to the car not going and oncoming traffic continuing. I have also almost rear ended other drivers due to the surge of acceleration when the car finally takes off. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and brought this to their attention. They told me it was a known issue, particularly with the Volkswagen Taos. They said they had several vehicles come in for inspection citing the same problem. So I assumed they would have a solution since it is a known issue, but I was...
Always running low on coolant Must have head gasket issues, dealer been saying no issues but been having to top off coolant
I purchased this vehicle new in Jan 2022. I have had multiple issues with sensors needing to be replaced, auto start/stop not working properly, coolant light flashing on and off intermittently Feb 2023 recall - owner manual insert April 2023 recall - software update Oct 2023 check engine light coming on - needed N80 valve Dec 2023 auto start not working - dealer states no fault codes Dec 28, 2023 auto start still not working, pushed for more thorough evaluation - found a P019600 fault (engine oil temp sensor), they had a tech service bulletin for ECM software 2024 - intermittent and sporadic issues with different warning lights July/Aug 2024 coolant light coming on again after cold start after sitting all night -dealer says nothing wrong Aug 2024 - I requested service dept to check head gasket - they did and found it to be leaking. was told part would...
I went for my 30K mile warranty check. As I was as driving to the appointment the red engine light came on. It was the engine coolant. There is an issue with the head gasket on this model. I asked for it to be checked. The Service department said there is no leak and they replenished the coolant. I have read about this with many other VW Taos owners. I was also told I need new brakes. The brakes were replaced 16,000 miles ago. The brakes are substandard. This is the second time I've needed brakes on my car. I only have 29K miles on the car.
2022 VW Taos 18k miles leaking coolant - coolant light is coming on 1x per month with minimal driving and mild conditions. I have had it diagnosed 3x at the dealership and they find “no leaks” and their directive is keep an eye on the reservoir. VW forums are full of similar stories where the head gasket needs to be replaced.
Periodically, when trying to accelerate, the car stutters as if it's not getting any fuel and the check engine light will flash on briefly, then go off, and keep flashing on when pressing the gas pedal. It will continue to do this until you stop, turn the car off, open then close the door, let it set for about a minute, start the car again, and you HAVE to turn off the Automatic start/stop. Once you do that, and continue to keep turning off the auto start/stop every time you start the car for a few days to a week, it will resolve the issue for about a few months (or shorter if you drive frequently to where the auto start/stop is activated more frequently). -Engine? -Fuel Injection? -Automatic Start/Stop The car stuttered and acted like it was going to shut off while driving down the road. This could have...
I purchase a 2022 VW Taos in February of 2022. Right after I purchase I got a coolant warning light. Took it to dealer and they added coolant. This stated happening a couple of time with the same fix by dealer. In March of 2023 they tested the cooling system and found nothing wrong and said the reason the car was loosing coolant was because the cap was not installed correctly and the coolant evaporated. The car still continues to loose coolant. Took the car back a few more times again the same fix, add coolant. Last week the check engine light came on and took the car to dealer. Now they tell me the car needs a new head cover gasket and since I have 58,000 miles it is no longer under warranty. I have taken the car to the dealership numerous times for the coolant being low and...
First it wouldn’t start, then all these issues All of these including the TPS Adaptive Cruise Control Automatic Emergency Braking Blind Spot Warning Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Parking Collision Warning Rear Cross Traffic Warning and the windows would sometimes roll down and not back up or would not roll down at all.
Constantly having to add coolant. Dealer denies issue and says it’s normal. 2022 with 20,000 miles.
In the two years I have had this car it has gone into limp home mode stating “start/stop error” while I am drivig the vehicle. I have taken it to my dealership and they will not do anything to fix the problem. The vehicle has also cut off twice while I am driving it with no warning lights which has caused other Volkswagen models to be recalled
This complaint is related to a coolant leak. The issue started around the 13,000 mile mark when warning lamps came on at the instrument cluster. The warning was for low coolant. The vehicle was brought into the dealership and they replaced the cap to the reservoir and could not find additional issues. Off and on the coolant warning was triggered and was advised by the dealer to top off the coolant as this is just something that happens with these models due to the air pressure. At 56,000 miles, the coolant ran low again and under a pressure test, it was noticed that it was a leak at the cylinder head and the engine would need to be fixed upwards of 4,000 dollars. This is an issue not only financially but for the safety of those within the vehicle. This is due to the vehicles capability of overheating and no...
In April 2024, the VW Taos leaked coolant due to a faulty gasket. Upon being fixed, an EPC light came on and leaked oil. This caused us to have it towed to the dealership for repairs to the oil cap lining. After the car was returned, the light was cleared and no longer leaked oil. In May 2024, the EPC light reappeared and cause a significant reduction when accelerating at 50 mph. When the light came on the vehicle had errors stating that the max rpms are exceeded and the car reduced power. We took the car to VW State College who was unable to find an issue with the car and cleared the light. We were able to drive the vehicle at slow speeds back to Moon Township for diagnostic and testing. The vehicle has remained with VW since late may and as of 6/11/2024, Volkswagen is unable to...
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, his daughter attempted to start the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
From the start, car regularly needed coolant topped off. Dealer said there was no issue. At 68,000 miles other mechanic noticed a major oil leak. Took it to dealer and needed cylinder head gasket replaced. Apparently there are many many people with a similar issue. I however did not discover it until I was out of warranty. They should not be getting away with this. This is a near $4,000 repair I have to come with out of pocket (plus interest) which is due to manufacturing defect and not simple wear and tear.
2022, Volkswagen Taos VIN: [XXX] Dealer Servicing:Nailey Volkswagen, 1550 Mansell Road, Alpharetta, GA 3009 We have owned this vehicle since [XXX]/2022 and I’m starting to regret buying it. We have had a ton of random things gone wrong with this vehicle, like Fluids Leak, Faulty Cylinder Head Gasket, Coolant Leak, Check Engine Light ON doesn’t function sometimes. This Car stayed with Dealer Service Center more than in my drive way. We are completely fed up with this car., and we are totally concerned and scared as my son drives this car., with all the mechanical issues I am seeing, it’s really getting worried of his security with this car. Overall, the car was with the DEALER is 7+ Months in the last 21 Months I own this car. I’m super annoyed with this whole situation. Today I dropped it off again, after receiving the car just 5 days ago from...
Leaking head gasket, vehicle had 25,000 miles on the engine
1. car is unsafe starting from a stop and after slowing down to accelerate out of a turn. in both instances there is a significant lack of response w/ the accelerator where it won't actually respond until there's about 2-3k RPMs. this makes it extremely dangerous at intersections because you can't trust that it will accelerate in a responsive manner. many times, the car will respond as if you've dropped the clutch on a manual transmission - jerking around like a 15YO learning to drive a stick. The problem has not been confirmed by dealer - they were supposed to review at our 1st year maintenance but didn't then wanted to charge me to come back. It has not been inspected by others. There are no warning lights. 2. The coolant level on car consistently drops despite low mileage (1st time was around 9k) and less than a year old....
Engine stalled while operating the vehicle. Engine would not start after stalling. Vehicle had to be towed.
Had car for less than one year. Have had coolant level warning twice. First time was eight months after getting the car and the second was three months later.
Within weeks of leading car, EPC light flashing, check engine light, limp mode from 55 to about 30. I bought it to dealer said fixed. A few months later again, brought it to another dealer fixed it, said don’t use eco mode and high tier gas. It was fine for a few months did it again two days ago. I shut the engine off and turned it on was fine. VW HQ said no new car. They will keep trying to fix it. Dealer won’t change it. Dealer wants me to bring it in again….They will try something else. I explained to dealer and VWHQ this is very dangerous. Previous incident 11/2023, previous incident shortly after leasing the car. Each time told it was fixed and not.
my taos is been on the shop several times for a check engine light and it works for a couple of months and the light comes back on according to the dealer ship it is an evap sensor that keeps failing the power train it not at 100% it can cause an accident I was traying to do a buy back but the company said that NO my car it been on the shop at least 5 times for the same problem. Please HELP.
Failing head gasket that needs to be replaced. Appears to be a common issue. Parts are backordered so have been waiting on the repair for over a month now. Issue identified in the shop on 1/25/24, but was leaking coolant before that.
