The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stopped driving the vehicle due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

I brought my car to the dealership not even 2 years ago. They said they fixed my ABS moduler and the EPC updated the software and replaced the ABS moduler if they did then why is my car shutting down and causing me trouble and having issues. I just need this car fixed the correct way. They didnt fix it due to the way they went about it. I need my car fix due to my 8 year old daughter I take yo school and also taking my fiance to PT due to a terrible accident. I need answer or someone to answer why my car is acting up if they fixed it.. Thank You Dawn
My car been fine and went to take my daughter to school and shut the car off and get back in to go home and wouldn't start and the Abs light came on and Check Engine light as well. I am concerned because I think since I have done the ABS no longer then 2 years. I feel like there is a problem and dont think VW fix it the first time when I took it in.. My fiance had a terrible accident 12 month ago and no income and I dont know how we are going to fix it if we have too thats what I am worried about as well.. Thank you, Dawn
I was driving in Clio alabama on state highway 10, when all of a sudden the EPC light came on my 2009 Volkswagen jetta s 2.5 5cyl..... about 2 miles later down the road; the engine cuts off unexpectedly while I am going 62mph down the highway, with an 18 wheeler directly behind me at the same speed. The car just quits, won't do anything, so I swerved over the side the road so I wouldn't get hit by the 18wheeler and tried to restart the car and it wouldn't do anything. I've had to tow it back to my home and I've had multiple mechanics look at it and try to discover the problem but every time they hook up a diagnostic scanner , and it throws a code, I've purchased the parts that shouldve fixed said dtc code, and rescan the car and that fault code will be...
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65MPH, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATED STOP! OIL PRESSURE ENGINE OFF! AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP. WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF EXIT. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED FROM HIGHWAY TO REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAILURE IN THE HEX DRIVE BIT FROM THE BALANCE SHAFT MODULE TO THE OIL PUMP. ALSO CAUSED TURBOCHARGER FAILURE DUE TO LACK OF OIL FLOW. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED TO REQUIRED SCHEDULE AND HAD NO PRIOR INDICATIONS OF IMMINENT FAILURE.
THE CARS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK IT TO GET CHECKED AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DONE . I HAD JUST GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP A WEEK BEFORE AND HAD THE BACK BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED FOR $500 DOLLARS AND THE OIL CHANGED FOR ANOTHER $100. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO TURN OFF ENGINE - SO WE WERE NOT ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF.
HAD DROVE THE CAR LITTLE WHILE, THEN MADE A STOP, CRANKED THE CAR TO LEAVE AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS LOW ON OIL, THAT KIND OF. TAPPING SOUND. OIL WAS FINE. BUT THE SOUND STILL THERE THE NEXT DAY. AFTER DRIVING IT A MILE OR TWO. IT GOT LOUDER, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED AT THE CLOSEST PART STORE ABOUT 5 MIN AFTER THE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY CHECKED IT WITH THE SCANNER. SAID IT WAS A KNOCK SENSOR CODE. P0328, BANK 1.TOOK IT TO VW. TO GET A DIAGNOSITS DONE. AND THE MAN SAID IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL. THE PROBLEM I WAS HEARING, AND THE CODE. WAS FROM THE RECALLED PART. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND EPC INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF THE DIAGNOSIS. 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBURG 2.0TSI TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. AT 109K MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT START IN THE AM TO GO TO WORK. THIS HAPPENED ON 12/23/16. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER HAD FAILED. THE ENGINE WILL NEED BETWEEN $3600 AND $5500 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COMPONENTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH TO CALL VW CUSTOMER CARE BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY MAY HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. VW TOLD ME THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A MECHANIC THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED BY VW AND HE VERIFIED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR IS STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. ENGINE REAR MAIN SEAL FAILED ON 80,000 MILES. ENGINE OIL LEAKING.
OIL SEALS LEAKING OIL ALL OVER ENGINE, MAJOR CARBON BUILD UP FAILING AXLES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND THE CAR MADE A MAJOR THUD AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO DEALER NEXT DAY AND THEY FOUND ALL SEALS ON THE ENGINE ARE LEAKING OIL AND WATER PUMP HAS FAILED AND MAJOR CARBON BUILD UP IN ENGINE. FOUND OIL ON GROUND OF MY GARAGE. FRONT SUSPENSION KNOWN TO MAKE CRUNCHING SOUNDS WHEN GOING OVER MAJOR BUMPS WHEN COLD.

CAR'S ABS AND BRAKE SYSTEM HAS BEEN FAILING ONCE A WHILE CAUSING CAR TO LOSE CONTROL OF STABILITY. RANDOM "ENGINE WORKSHOP FAILURE" MANY TIMES WHILE STARTING UP THE CAR AND CAR PERFORMANCE GETS VERY LIMITED.
WIFE WENT OUTSIDE TO START HER TDI AND AFTER SITTING AND MAKING NO PROGRESS IN WARMING AND SMELLING A LOT OF UN-BURNT DIESEL SHE DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF. AFTER SHE CAME INSIDE AND TOLD ME IT WAS NOT WARMING UP AND IT SEEMED TO BE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL VERY QUICKLY I WENT OUTSIDE TO CHECK IT OUT. I COULD SEE THAT DIESEL HAD LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND, SO I OPENED THE HOOD AND FUEL WAS DRIPPING FROM THE ENGINE MOUNTED FUEL PUMP. I LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AT THIS POINT TO MAKE SURE NO FIRES WHERE STARTED. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK IT APART TO FIND OUT WHAT THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AND AFTER REMOVING THE PUMP, ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL, AND RUBBER LINES I SAW THE END OF THE PUMP HAD POPPED OUT OF ITS CRIMPED ALUMINUM CASE. THIS WAS ALLOWING DIESEL TO LEAK PAST THE RUNNING ELECTRIC PUMP...
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT IDLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD AT UNKNOWN LOCATION. INITIAL SMELL OF "SOMETHING HOT" WAS FOLLOWED BY SMOKE THROUGH VENTS. NOTICED SMOKE BETWEEN HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. PAINT ON HOOD BUBBLED IN APPROXIMATE LOCATION ABOVE OIL CAP / DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND EXITED THE VEHICLE.
I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. I STARTED MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE ENGINE MADE A METALLIC RATTLING SOUND AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON UNTIL REACHING THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING "JUMPED TIME" DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. UPON PICKING UP THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS LATER AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THE METAL RING HOLDING THE TENSIONER LATCH IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF; ALLOWING THE TINY ADJUSTABLE LATCH TO FALL OUT, AND THAT BOTH PIECES WERE LYING, LOOSE, IN THE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN APART. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 15-12-01. A WEB SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS PROBLEM...

ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE SHIFTING LIGHTS WILL ALL LIGHT UP PRNDS, SOMETIMES THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER. ALSO ONE OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHT SEEMS TO HAVE MELTED DUE TO A HIGH HEAT SOURCE OF SOME KIND.

THE ABS MODULE NEEDS TO BE RESTORE OR REPLACE. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT COMES ON INCLUDES ENGINE, BRAKES,STEERING, ABS, AND E.T.C.(ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL).WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT COMES ON IS IT HARD TO STEER,ACCELERATION GOES SLOW, BEEPING HEARING TEST NOISE FREQUENTS , GAS GAUGE GOES TO E, AND SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AND DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ROAD OR HIGHWAY I'M WHAT MAKES IT MORE DANGEROUS WHEN ITS HARD TO STEEL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY FLASHING.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTED WITH THE EPC LIGHT COMING ON SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, BUT THE LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CONSISTENCY TO THE OCCURRENCES. HOWEVER, NOW, THE CAR WILL STAY RUNNING FOR LONG AND STALLS OUT SHORTLY AFTER STARTING. THE EPC COMES ON SOMETIMES, BUT NOT EVERY TIME THAT IS STALLS OUT. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR FOR A DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK, AS SOON AS I GOT IT BACK HOME, IT STALLED OUT. FROM THAT POINT ON THE CAR WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A FREE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP 2 MONTHS AGO. WE HAVEN'T EVEN PUT 2,000 MILE ON THE CAR YET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HE TOLD ME THESE CARS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR MAF SENSOR FAILURES AND THAT IT IS NOT AN EASY FIX. THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION BROKE CAUSING THE CHAIN TO BREAK OFF AND BEND SEVERAL VALUES CAUSING EXTENSION DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. MOST CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH TIMING BELTS BUT VW WENT TO THE TIMING CHAIN IN RETURN THE TENSIONER WHICH THEY LATER REVISED IS FAULTY AND BREAKS CAUSING THE CHAIN TO DESTROY SEVERAL IMPORTANT PARTS. VW IS UNWILLING TO HELP US WITH THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE THEY LATER CORRECTED IN THE LATER MODELS. I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE BUT BECAUSE THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AT 60,000 IS EXPIRED THEY WILL DO NOTHING. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A 120,000 MILE SERVICE AND DIAGNOSE THE DASH ENGINE LIGHT AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP I SMELLED DIESEL. I DROVE IT 13 MILES, WHEN I GOT HOME I SMELLED DIESEL AGAIN. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS DIESEL ALL OVER THE LEFT ENGINE SIDE. THERE WAS A WET, SPLIT FUEL LINE, LEAKING FLUID IN THE PARKING LOT, A BLUE PLASTIC SET SMALL RINGS (LIKE THE OLYMPIC SYMBOL) SAT NEAR THE SPLIT HOSE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, AND OTHER CARS TO BE IN DANGER FROM SLICK ROAD, AMONG OTHER THINGS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WHEN A LOUD BEEPING AND THE RED ABS FAILURE + EVERY LIGHT ON DASHBOARD LIT UP. EVERY GAUGE STOPPED WORKING (THE GAS GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER, ETC) I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND CAREFULLY PROCEEDED TO THE HOUSE. AFTER A HALF MILE THE CAR STALLED AND THE ENGINE DIED. STOPPED AND LEFT THE LINE AT A GREEN LIGHT WHEN OUR 2009 JETTA TDI SPUTTERED AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP AND GIVEN AN INVOICE FOR $5500 FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, WHICH IS IDENTIFIED A KNOWN ISSUE BY VW UNDER A SELF-IMPOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT NEVER UNDER A RECALL. AS I WAS TOLD BY VW CUSTOMER SERVICE, SINCE THERE WAS NEVER A CATASTROPHIC ISSUE TO OUR VEHICLE PRIOR TO 120K MILES, INSTEAD AT 124K MILES, THE SAFETY ITEMS WERE NOT IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY DIES, LEAVING ME NO POWER TO ESCAPE A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT, BRAKES ARE HARD TO USE, STUCK IN A TRAFFIC LANE WITH CARS COMING UP ON ME AT 35 TO 45 MPH, TURNS OUT THE HPFP EXPLODED SENDING METAL THRU OUT THE FUEL SYSTEM CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STARVE FOR FUEL AND STALL OUT, WITH NO FUEL GETTING TO THE ENGINE THE MOTOR WONT RESTART CAUSING A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION
STARTED THE CAR AND AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF BUT ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS APPEAR TO BE WORKING. NO TROUBLE/ INDICATOR LIGHTS COME ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING 70, ON A SIDE STREET TRAVELING 35, AND SITTING IDLE AT A STOP LIGHT. EVERY TIME, THE CAR WILL RUN FOR BETWEEN 5-7 MINUTES THAN NOT RESTART FOR 5-7 MINUTES. AT ATTEMPTS TO RESTART INSIDE THAT 5 MINUTE WINDOW AFTER THE ENGINE STALLS, THERE IS NO TURNING OVER, NO CLICKING OR ANYTHING. THERE IS NO TEMP ISSUES, OR LOW FUEL ISSUES. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A FULL TANK AND A HALF TANK ALSO. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING ITSELF DOWN. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE RPM INDICATOR WENT UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SPEED UP PAST 45 MPH AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VERY HARD THE REST OF THE WAY. WHEN I TOOK IT FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR, THE CODES P2431 AND P2432 INDICATED A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR. I WAS TOLD THAT VOLKSWAGON WAS AWARE OF THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM, WHICH HAS OCCURRED IN A HIGH NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND THEY IN FACT RECOMMENDED AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE INJECTION HOSE AND SENSOR. THIS WAS A $350 REPAIR ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND ACCORDING TO VOLKSWAGON A COMMON REPAIR. I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT CONSUMERS SHOULD ABSORB THE COST OF THIS TYPE OF REPAIR.
