The service engine lamp came on. When the mechanic investigated, it was determined that the problem is identical to the Warranty Bulletin titled Cummins 6.7L Turbocharger Actuator - X99 Warranty Extension that pertains to the 2015 RAM 2500 pickup. My vehicle is a 2016 and there is no warranty extension, even though it is an identical problem. The vehicle was not drivable as is and I had to replace the Turbocharger Actuator. I am assuming that this is a known problem to Cummins and to RAM. There should be a Warranty Bulletin for the 2016 also.

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH, the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline and the contact felt the vehicle losing power. In addition, the contact noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle, and no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact placed a rubber line on the fuel line because he noticed the fuel line was rubbing against the frame of the vehicle causing the fuel line to wear. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 87,000.

MY VEHICLE HAS WAS HAS BEEN COINED AS "DEAD PEDAL" THE TRUCK WILL HESITATE FOR A SECOND WHILE ACCELERATING. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED BY MANY OTHER RAM DIESEL TRUCK OWNERS. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR CROSSING A STREET AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.

NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THIS BUT FIGURED IT WAS A START. I HAVE A 2016 RAM 2500 WITH THE CUMMINS DIESEL. EVERY SO OFTEN THE TRUCK LEAKS FUMES INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE READ ON MANY FORUMS ONLINE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH THE 1500 ECO TRUCK BUT WITH THE BIGGER 2500,3500 TRUCKS. RAM SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEMS FROM WHAT I HAVE READ BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!! ONE GUY POSTED THAT RAM JUST TOLD HIM TO USE THE RECIRCULATE BUTTON TO STOP THE SMELL. THAT'S FINE AND DANDY BUT WHEN YOU DO THAT YOU CAN NOT USE THE DEFROST WITCH IS A PROBLEM IN THE RIGHT WEATHER CONDITIONS BECAUSE THE WINDOWS WILL FOG UP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 RAM 2500. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SLOWED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TEN MORE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO RESET THE REGENERATION SYSTEM TO CLEAN THE DIESEL PARTICULATE SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING. HOWEVER, THE RESET WAS FAILING AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW AND STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AS MANY TIMES AS NECESSARY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 10 IN TRAFFIC I WENT TO ACCELERATE TO CHANGE LANES AND MY 2016 2500 THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD POP AND LOST ALL ENGINE POWER. AND DIDN'T REGAIN ENGINE POWER FOR 3 SECONDS. IT HAS DONE IT SEVERAL TIME SINCE. IT IS A VERY SCARY FEELING WHEN YOUR DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I DO NOT GET ANY CODES OR LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WAS TOLD BY DEALER SERVICE MANAGER THAT WITHOUT ANY CODES COMING UP THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM.

I WOULD BE DRIVING AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. THE TRUCK WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION AND SOMETIMES THE TRUCK WOULD ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN AND COULD DRIVE ITSELF ON THE ROAD (SOMETIMES SURGING). I HAVE HAD IT TOT THE DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES SO FAR. THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID IT WAS A BENT CLIP ON THE THROTTLE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE THROTTLE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO OTHER TIMES SINCE IT WAS LAST FIXED ON 8/30/2016, BUT IF YOU LET THE TRUCK SIT OVERNIGHT, THE NEXT MORNING EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN. MY 2016 RAM HAS MAJOR THROTTLE DELAY. IT BECOMES A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN I'M PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND GET BACK ON IT AND IT WAITS 1.5 TO 2 SECONDS BEFORE THE COMPUTER RECEIVES THE COMMAND TO GIVE THROTTLE. I HAVE HAD ONE INSTANCE WHERE I WAS PROCEEDING TO CHANGE LANES ON THE INTERSTATE AND GIVE IT THROTTLE BUT IT DIDN'T RESPOND AND THEN I WAS A SITTING DUCK BECAUSE MY BRAND NEW TRUCK DIDN'T WANT TO WAKE UP AND GO. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT IS VERY WELL COMPLAINED ABOUT BY MANY RAM OWNERS AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS WILL GET SOMEONE EITHER HURT OR KILLED AS A RESULT.

PURCHASED A NEW RAM 2500 DIESEL. AFTER 1200 MILES, THE DIESEL EMISSION FLUID (DEF) GAUGE BECAME ERRATIC AND GAVE ME A MESSAGE THAT AFTER 200 MILES THE TRUCK'S MAXIMUM SPEED WOULD BE 5 MILES/HOUR. THE AM DEALER IN OLYMPIA, WA TRACED THE PROBLEM TO A COMPUTER MODULE. THIS MODULE IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH NO DELIVERY DATE IN SIGHT. I AM ON MY WAY TO ALASKA, AND AM STUCK IN OLYMPIA, WA FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG. THE TRUCK IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER, EXCEPT THAT IT IS PROGRAMMED TO STOP (OR GO 5MPH) AFTER 200 MILES UNLESS THE DEF PROBLEM IS FIXED.
