While driving approximately 20mph my 2017 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel abruptly stopped/stalled on me for a second or two with no warning indications before or after. I was driving with my wife and two kids and am always very aware of driving cautiously and being aware of my surroundings. Fortunately, there were no vehicles behind us at the moment the truck stalled. The truck has not been inspected by the dealership but I have called my local Ram dealership to explain this to them and they informed me of a recall that I already knew about (22V-406). I've been placed on a list in the 80's for when the part arrive.
How did NHTSA miss this one? Engine exhaust manifold bolts broken leading to exhaust gases unknowingly getting into the cabin while driving which has also may be impacting my lungs. (I have a CT scan from MAYO to prove it.) This went on for at least 3 months. During long, 2 hours trips with the windows closed led to drowsiness. The problem was not only confirmed by the local Ram dealer but also confirmed this is a problem for all Ram vehicles using the 5.8 liter engine. These exhaust manifold bolts and gaskets should be replaced after so many miles or time. I had 95,000 miles on my truck when I brought it in for a tuneup. The service department then found the problem during their overall inspection. Frankly, ALL service departments should be doing the overall inspection first BEFORE any other scheduled maintenence. The only symptom was ticking on...
While idling in line at a fuel station, my vehicle suddenly started shuddering and quickly followed up with a strange squeak that sounded like metal on metal contact from the lower portion of the engine. This happened on June 5th 2023 around noon timeframe. I was able to pull the vehicle into a parking spot where I turned the engine off and called for a tow truck. There were no visible lights or codes stored during this period. After getting the vehicle home, I removed the oil filter and discovered metal flakes throughout the filter and oil system. The vehicle has just under 70k miles on it and has been maintained regularly with quality lubricants and filters. Thankfully I was not on the highway with my family to include two children under the age of 5. Chrysler/Fiat has been aware of engine failure issues on this particular engine and continues...
Currently there is an open and unresolved high pressure fuel pump recall that can leave me stranded on the highway and cause an accident. The length of time until a remedy can be had is unacceptable. Also there is a new recall to reprogram the ECU to "band-aid" a potential failure of the timing reluctor ring. It still has the potential to leave me broken down on the road and cause an accident. The delamination problem of the reluctor ring is another part that should be covered under a recall instead of a software program.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power but was able to continue to operate at slower speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed and found failures with the EGR and intake manifold. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V757000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
RAM ENGINE FAILURE May 7, 2023 SUBJECT: Engine failure RAM 2017 ECO Diesel TO: whom it may concern: Tuesday April 25, 2023 while driving to Riverside California with my wife, daughter and two grandchildren in my 2017 ECO diesel, it began to overheat leading to my engine oil pressure immediately dropping to zero. The loss in performance and lack of drivability forced me to hastily veer off highway 91, on to Adams Street/Auto Center Drive. I immediately pulled to the side of the road and shut off my truck’s engine. After the panic subsided I called Redlands Dodge Redland and was redirected to MOSS BROS. Riverside, California. The history regarding my purchase of RAM eco diesel: I’m a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran who utilizes a service trained mobility dog. This was the primary reason for the purchase a RAM full size pickup truck that is licensed with military disability veteran...
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The low oil and fuel pressure warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that as a result of the failure, the vehicle swerved as the contact maneuvered the vehicle to safely avoid a crash. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact the stated that he requested that additional diagnostic tests be performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 64,322. The contact stated that the manufacturer has yet to state whether or not if...
This is my second Ram truck with this issue. My first truck was a 2014 1500 Big Horn and now I own a 2017 1500 Sport. The 2014 was in the shop 3 times for a manifold bolt breakage and the 2017 has been in the shop 2 times now for a manifold bolt break. This issue causes an annoying engine ticking sound that gets louder over time and causes a serious health risk to the passengers of the vehicle. Even the newly designed bolts that Mopar has been using still break. This has been ongoing for many years with the Hemi engines and should have a repair that will not fail by now.
The plastic fan exploded and cut through the transmission lines causing the truck to stop moving and thousands of dollars in damage. While towing a 6500lb trailer, the fan was spinning at a high rate of speed when the plastic failed and broke apart in the engine bay causing damage to the paint, heat shield, and transmission lines. It was unknown that this occurred until the vehicle started to hesitate with the gas pedal until it no longer would drive. The vehicle and trailer were towed to Brandon Dodge on Broadway in Littleton Colorado where the service associate then told me the driver caused the fan to break!? Seems very unlikely that you could run over something that could fit up into the engine area and go into a high rate fan that blows into the engine bay and anything that did fit into that small opening would damage a...
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the crankshaft sensor and the ECU were replaced. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
Dodge has failed to recognize an issue that is extremely prevelant in Americas Number one selling truck. The 2015-2020 models are all experiencing exhaust Manifold deformities/ Warpage that are causing the manifold bolts to snap at the engine resulting in the vehicle spewing untreated exhaust fumes both into the environment as well as the passenger compartment. They have redesigned the components but have not issued a recall. This is both an environmental issue as well as a health issue for the drivers. This is the number 1 selling truck in America so I cant imagine how much unfiltered exhaust is entering our environment from these vehicles. A simple google search of 5.7 hemi exhaust leak will show you how prevalent this issue is. Dodge's redesign of the manifolds is a clear indication that they admit the issue was a design flaw. It is both seriously detrimental to the environment as...
Shortly after starting the engine it suddenly shut off. This has happened on three occasions, and each time I noticed the key fob was between the ON and ACC positions. I think the key fob sometimes returns too far after I release it from the start position. The first two times I had to turn it to the off position, remove the key fob, then restart the engine. This time nothing happened when I tried to restart the engine. I removed the key fob and opened and closed the driver door, then was able to restart the engine.
On the 5.7liter Hemi engines the exhaust manifold bolts break into the block of the engine causing exhaust leak which can potentially get in the cab and cause injury or death. As well the heat shield bolts that cover the exhaust manifold break.
Ram 5.7 hemi engine exhaust manifold leak ticking sound if it’s not fix or the bolt snap the smoke coming from the exhaust can be suck on the vent and can have a carbon monoxide poisoning inside the truck please I just found out that it’sbeen a known problem for dodge ram trucks and nothing is being done by the company to recall or fix such problem than you
I was filling antifreeze up every couple days then about 2 weeks later I was driving it just shut down, now won't start brought it to a garage said the engine locked up I see there's a recall, but it says not on this one, and it won't start the truck only has 64,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor detected through the vents. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the fuel filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I just purchased my truck in November 2022 and noticed an audible ticking noise coming from the engine immediately after start-up. After having the vehicle inspected by an ASE mechanic, it was discovered that the manifold bolts had broken on each warped manifold which was likely causing the ticking sound. Because of the defective manifold bolts, this exhaust leak created a dangerous situation while the Hemi engine was running and possibly resulted in a failed emissions test required to obtain a license plate in metro Atlanta, GA.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he was informed that oil was leaking from the oil cooler. The dealer was notified of the failure and provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Lifters failed due to mds ram needs to be liable for this problem will be going to a lawyer...... truck knocks badly poor running condition oild and maintenence always done
My 2017 Ram ecodiesel fuel pump went out on the road. Completely died, had no steering nor brakes. The truck was stalled in the middle of the road due to the high pressure fuel pump and I had to get towed.
Mid-year 2022 began noticing a ticking sound coming from the truck’s engine bay. The sound seems to lessen or stop after the engine has warmed up. Have not had the vehicle inspected at dealer but local mechanic believes these issues are related to the manifold bolts due to this being a recurring problem on RAM models with the Hemi engine.
When the truck is started, the engine knocks on the right side of the motor more.
There is a known issue called the hemi tick that is the result of broken bolts on the exhaust manifold. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/dodge-ram-1500-hemi-tick-recalls-worth-worrying This is a dangerous exhaust leaks that happens on almost every Ram and nothing has been recalled. To make a safe vehicle people are paying thousands to fix this and Dodge knows it is an issue! Exhaust fumes in the engine compartment flow in to the air intake and into the truck. This issue has been reproduced thousands of times.
I was driving on interstate and my vehicle was running fine. Without any warning, my check engine light came on and "Service ETC" flashed. Vehicle went into limp mode and would not go over 10 miles an hour. Had it towed to dealer, a gasket on the EGR was bad, had been leaking oil into my turbo for "quite some time" according to the dodge dealership. My turbo was blown and manifold melted. This is a diesel and I only had 108,000 miles on it. Always have done the maintenance. The cost of the repair was $11,971.62. There is no reason why this vehicle should have been fine one second and have a catastrophic failure the next. I am aware of the class action lawsuit for models up to 2016 and my truck is a 2017. I believe that this is the same problem. It was 10:00 pm when this...
My Engine light turned on and vehicle kept overheating. Coolant levels we’re getting very high. Coolant was not cycling through the engine properly & needs new head gasket. The dealership I took it too said they have 5 other trucks with the same issue
See first uploaded file. File #2 has additional information regarding problem that can become a safety issue.
On Saturday, July 16th, I was passing a vehicle at approximately 65mph on a two lane road with no shoulder when my engine stalled. Fortunately I was on a straight stretch of the road and was able to coast to a safe location to attempt to restart my engine. After I stopped, I attempted numerous times to restart my engine without success. This stall caused me to be on the side of the road with no shoulder partially sticking out into the roadway. I eventually had to be towed to my mechanic. Once at my mechanic, he found two recalls that had similar symptoms concerning Dodge RAM Ecodiesels- recall W58 and W68 along with TSB 14-007-21. I contacted RAM and was informed that my VIN number was not included in this recall and that they would not fix my vehicle under this recall without me paying in full and their...
On start up makes a ticking noise. Upon further investigation noticed broken studs on exhaust manifold bolts. This causes an exhaust leak which may lead to possible fire.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was not able to restart. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle previously had the throttle position sensor, fuel system, water pump, and engine replaced at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.
Exhaust manifolds warp leading to broken mounting bolts/ studs resulting in exhaust leak/ ticking
Engine blew up with no warning indicators on the dash. Engine oil was full and from what the dealer found it was a bearing either the crankshaft or rod. I've been without my truck for over 2 months and fiat chrysler doesn't know when a motor will be available.
Two right rear exhaust manifold bolts broke causing a potential exhaust leak into the cabin.
There is a known problem with the 5.7l hemi engines having the exhaust manifold bolts break. This happened to me where the manifold separated from the engine and caused untreated exhaust gases to escape into the engine bay. These gases were then being sucked into the cabin through hvac system due to the close proximity of the cabin air intake vent and the gases escaping in the engine bay and seeping from underneath the hood when at low speed or idling with the hvac system on.
It’s the oil filter housing it’s made out of plastic and the heat of the engine cause the seals to leak oil mechanic said to upgrade it with an aluminum housing instead
When the engine was started a ticking sound is heard, this has been happening for approximately 6 months. The ticking would go away after the engine was run for approximately 10 minutes. The truck now has 82639 miles on it and the ticking had gotten worse. I took the truck to the dealer, Dallas Dodge they reported that several of the exhaust bolts/studs have broken (confirmed 6) and the gaskets and the bolts needed to be replaced. My concern with this issue is with an exhaust leak I am worried that this could allow carbon monoxide into the vehicle.
Chrysler (RAM) truck 2017 3.6 pentstar enjine 3.6L Oil Filter Housing Leak - vehicle has 50 k miles on it. vehicle oil has pumped out of the engine due to this faulty oil filter housing.
Air bag light comes on from time to time wiggle some wires under the seat and light goes away,so I think it disables the airbags cause it says they need to be serviced, also engine knocks when start up the. Goes into a little knock after warm up, continues through driving all day some days worst then ever , weather it be fresh oil or 509 mike's down the rd , to 2000 miles down the rd, I think it's a manufacturer error
WHILE DRIVING ON FWY ENGINE JUST TURN OFF AT 65MPH AND STARTED AGAIN?
3 bolts holding DPF and SCR together are known to fail and cause issues to the DEF wiring harness. All three bolts have failed on my truck which could cause the exhaust to fall apart while driving. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent center. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. The "check engine light" displayed and shortly there after a message popped up that vehicle would not restart in 200 miles. Still waiting to hear back from 1 of 4 dealerships about this issue and have since opened a case with FCA/RAM and have not heard from them either. Truck has not been drivable for 4 days now.
The bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the engine are breaking leading to a loud "tick" and exhaust gasses being released in the engine compartment. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous while the vehicle is occupied especially when idling. This has been an ongoing issue with the HEMI engine in RAM trucks as evidenced by multiple NHTSA complaints spanning over a decade. Ram has yet to correct the issue and continues to produce vehicles with the same problem. Mechanics talk about it being common, many forums are filled with complaints and websites are dedicated to the issue. My particular truck was inspected by the dealership and I was told it was "a common occurrence with those engines". I'm fine with having to pay the $500 repair bill to correct it, but I feel it should be a recall due to the commonality of the problem and the possibility of a...
On 7/16/2021 I was driving my truck when with no warning at all it completely shut off and would not restart and would not let me take the key out. I had to call for a tow truck to pull me out of the drive thru I was stuck at and my truck is currently at my mechanics shop. I was fortunate that this incident took place while moving at a slow speed while in a drive thru at a restaurant. If this had taken place while driving on the freeway or in traffic, I believe I would most likely be dead right now, this was a total shutdown of my truck with absolutely no warning. I called the dealer to advise of the incident and ask if there were any known issues and they were quick to say that only 2018 dodge ram 1500 trucks had this issue and...
Vehicular hesitated to select gear and to accelerate. This has concerned me when in traffic when you expect it to accelerate This is an on going issue no
The vehicle worked fine one day. When I went outside the next morning to go to work, all power came on but the vehicle would not start, will not turn over, will not click. Tried to jump start and the same thing happens. I am Active Duty Army and deploying soon. We have a special needs daughter and my wife needs the vehicle to take my daughter to her therapies. The battery is in excellent working condition. Battery terminals are without corrosion and appear brand new.
The exhaust manifold bolt on the passenger side have broken off after 50,000 miles after normal wear and tear. Such has highway and city driving. This vehicle has never towed a trailer or overheated. This has caused exhaust fumes to enter the cab when vehicle in on and stopped at stop lights or other times when stopped and on. There is wiring close to the exhaust manifold and I’m afraid the hot exhaust may cause the wiring to catch fire or melt while driving causing a catastrophic failure while driving. I’m afraid for my life and others who have this issue.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. WENT TO PUT THE KEY IN IGNITION AND TURN ON. TRUCK WOULD NOT START, NOT EVEN TURN. TRIED JUMPING IT AND NOTHING WORKED. HAVING TO GET A WHOLE NEW KEY IGNITION ASSEMBLY DONE ON IT. HAVE READ UP ON IT AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. THE TRUCK WON'T LOCK OR RUN. THERE ARE 83,000 MILES ON IT AND NOTHING PRIOR TO THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE WHEEL WILL NOT TURN OR GO INTO NEUTRAL. THE LIGHTS INSIDE DO WORK SO IT IS NOT THE BATTERY. HAVING TO SEND TO A MECHANIC AND ALL PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED AS THEY IDENTIFIED IT WAS THE IGNITION MODULE THAT WENT OUT. HE SAID IT HAPPENS A LOT TO DODGES.
THE PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING. IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY RAM TRUCK OWNERS AND TO SOME PEOPLE IT IS HAPPENING MORE THAN 3 TIMES. SO WHEN YOU START YOUR VERY EXPENSIVE TRUCK IT MAKES AN AWFUL LOUD TICKING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE DUE TO EXHAUST BOLTS BEING BROKEN ON THE MANIFOLD AND HOT EXHAUST LEAKING OUT. THIS NOISE USUALLY HAPPENS WITH THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. BUT AS MORE BOLTS CONTINUE TO BREAK THE NOISE IS THERE MORE AND MORE.
THIS RELATES TO VB1/NHTSA 19V-757. I WAS ADVISED OF THIS RECALL MONTHS AGO BY RAM, AND REPEATEDLY SO, EACH TIME BEING TOLD TO PROMPTLY CONTACT RAM AND/OR DEALER TO HANDLE THIS "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL" AND THAT IT WAS "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO TAKE STEPS NOW TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF YOU AND YOUR PASSENGERS." I CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTHS (GOING BACK WELL INTO SUMMER IF NOT PRIOR) AND WAS ADVISED THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. I CALLED ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO TO TRY AGAIN AS MY REGISTRATION IS DUE AND IN CALIFORNIA THERE IS REQUIREMENT TO SHOW THIS TYPE OF RECALL IS FIXED IN ORDER TO REREGISTER. I SET UP APPOINTMENT (THROUGH RAM AND CONFIRMED WITH DEALER) AND WAS JUST ADVISED THAT PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS EVIDENT THAT RAM (FCA) IS NOT TAKING THIS RECALL SERIOUSLY OR AT...
TRYING TO OBTAIN A FIX FOR THE SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE DIESEL EGR COOLER VB1 FROM OCTOBER 2019 THAT HAS TAKEN WAY TOO LONG. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT MULTIPLE RAM DEALERSHIPS AND THE THERE IS A WAIT LIST FOR THE PART. MEANWHILE I CONTINUE TO DRIVE A TRUCK THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL RISK OF FIRE TO THE OCCUPANTS IN MY TRUCK OR MY HOME. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I ASK THAT THE NTMVSA PUSH RAM TO MAKE THIS PART AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY OR HAVE THEM RECALL THE TRUCK ENTIRELY.
THE ENGINE THE LIFTERS SOUND AND CANCEL THE CYLINDERS AND THE RADIO DOES NOT TURN ON AND DOES NOT WORK, THE AIR CONDITIONING, WINDOWS, LIGHTS ETC
I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK AND BROUGHT IT HOME AND WAS GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING AND FOUND OUT THAT THE OIL DIDNT EVEN REACH THE DIPSTICK AND IT TOOK 4 QUARTS TO FILL IT UP. I THEN CHECKED EVERYTHING ELSE AND MADE SURE IT WAS FINE. I DROVE THE TRUCK FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS ON AND OFF THE INTERSTATE AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GO TO MY DR.S OFFICE IN CARTERSVILLE, GA. AND I WAS GOING ABOUT 55 MPH DOWN THE ROAD AND SUDDENLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE LIMPED ITS WAY TO A PARKING LOT TO WHICH I SHUT IT OFF AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT SEEMED GOOD ENOUGH TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE AND THEY PULLED CODES AND SAID THAT THE OIL PUMP ISNT GETTING ENOUGH OIL AND IT WAS LESS THAN A QUART. IT USED UP 4...
