AT ACCELERATION SUDDENLY BOGGED OUT. TURNS OUT TO BE THE 02 SENSOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER OVER HEATED, BURNT OUT NEWLY REPLACED SPARK PLUGS. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF O2 SENSORS REPLACED. MASTER MECHANIC SAYS ALL DUE OVER HEATING FROM EXHAUST.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 KIA SOUL IN THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND LACKED ON ACCELERATION AND DROPPED SPEED FROM 70 MPH TO 40 MPH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON SO I PULLED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT IT'S AN ENGINE ISSUE AND NEED TO BE REPLACE.
ONE DAY IT WAS FINE, DROVE TO LOUISVILLE KY FROM LEXINGTON KY AND NOTICED SPORADIC, WEIRD SHIFTING WHICH SEEMED VERY OFF, SHIFTING AT THE WRONG TIME I HAD GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO FOR THE PREVIOUS 6 YEARS ON THE WAY BACK HOME CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 55-60 MPH AND TO TRY AND FORCE IT TO DOWNSHIFT ONLY MADE THE ENGINE REV EXTREMELY HIGH AND NOISY WITH NO FORWARD MOTION, CAR ACTED AS THOUGH IT WANTED TO JUST QUIT ALTOGETHER, AND FROM THAT POINT ON ITS BEEN BOGGING DOWN LIKE A GIANT SAT ON THE HOOD UPON PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR TO GET MORE SPEED, AND UPON BACKING OFF 9F THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE LOUD REVVING NOISE EASED UP AND CAR SEEMED TO RECOVER SOMEWHAT UNTIL THE NEXT ACCELERATION...THE CAR HAS HESITATED, ENGINE IDLE IS, FOR THE MOST PART, OK, BUT 55-60 IS AS FAST AS IT WILL GO UNLESS GOING DOWNHILL,...
THERE IS A 1.6 LTR ENGINE IN THIS VEHICLE, 2014 KIA SOUL. I FIND THIS VEHICLE USING .5QT OF OIL BETWEEN 1000 AND 1500 MILES. IS THIS NORMAL? I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON COMPLAINING ABOUT KIA ENGINES USING OIL. BY COMPARISON I ALSO HAVE A HYUNDAI 2008 HYUNDAI ACCENT WITH A 1.6LT ENGINE BOTH VEHICLES HAVE ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE THE ACCENT DOESN'T USE ANY OIL IN 3000 MILES, WHAT GIVES? SEEMS LIKE AN AWFUL LOT OF OIL USAGE FOR A 1.6LTR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000.
TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH...HAD CRUISE CONTROL ON AND STARTED TO HEAR A LOUD RATTLING NOISE THEN A POP RESULTING IN VEHICLE BECOMING IMMOBILIZED WITH OIL ALL OVER THE GROUND. VEHICLE TOWED HOME. ENGINE HAD THROW A ROD RESULTING IN HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND DRAIN PAN - HAS 102,000 MILES WELL MAINTAINED
2014 KIA SOUL. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FAILURE. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER AND FELT AS IF IT WAS MISFIRING UPON ACCELERATION. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CATALYTIC CONVETER NEEDED TO E REPLACED AS WELL AS THE SPARK PLUGS. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED BUT, THE CONVERTER WAS NOT. EVENTUALLY, THE ENGINE FAILED. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL 19V12000 AND STATED 2014 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES SHOULD BE APART OF THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR. *JS
ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2020, WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, WE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LEAKAGE OF ENGINE OIL AND SIGNIFICANT SMOKING FROM THE VEHICLE. OVER 3 QTS OF OIL HAD LEAKED FOR THE ENGINE INTO THE PAN UNDERLYING THE ENGINE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. KIA HAS JUST ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE PRESUMABLY BECAUSE OF THIS WELL KNOWN ENGINE FIRE ISSUE AND RELATED CLASS ACTIONS, HOWEVER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE UNTIL THY SEND LETTERS OUT IN OVER 60 DAYS.
SINCE FIRST OIL CHANGE DONE WITH DELRAY FLORIDA KIA I COMPLAUOF KICKING SOUNDS IN ENGINE LOSS OF POWER OIL BURNING SMELLS OCCASIONALLY. I WAS TOLD EACH TIME THEY PUT ON COMPUTER N NOTHING WRONG. COMPLETE OIL LOSE, DIAGNOSTIC INDICATES ENGINE FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A BUSY INTERSTATE 93 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.. OIL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND POWER LOSE DEVELOPED. NAVIGATING THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT AND COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED AS THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE

WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL, I WAS COMING UP AN INCLINE WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO DECELERATE. I TRIED TO INCREASE MY SPEED BY APPLYING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE RPMS INCREASED WITHOUT AN INCREASE IN ACCELERATION. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY HAZARDS ON AS I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH CARS FLYING BY ME AND ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ENGINE FAILED DURING REGULAR DAILY DRIVING. SPUN ROD BEARING WAS THE DIAGNOSIS. ENGINE WAS LESS THAN 1 QUART LOW, NOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE ENGINE SEIZURE
I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 NORTH IN MARIETTA, GA WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER IN FRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE OFF THE NEXT EXIT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS LIT ON MY DASH AND THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY LIT PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. JUNE 2020 MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL #SC176. ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS POINT TOWARDS ENGINE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR.
NOVEMBER 25TH ON MY WAY TO WORK I STARTED HEARING A RATTLE WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 30. ABOUT A MILE FROM MY HOUSE. THE NOISE DIDN'T SEAM TO BE PRESENT WHILE RPM WAS UNDER 3,000RPM SO I DECIDED TO BE CAUTIOUS OF RPM AND NOT PUSH MY CAR TOO MUCH THAT MORNING. AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT THE ENGINE STOPPED, AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED. I STARTED THE CAR AND PARKED IT. AFTER WORK THE CAR STARTED FINE BUT AS I PULLED INTO THE ROAD I HEARD THE RATTLE AGAIN SO I WENT TO THE NEAREST PLACE I COULD TO BUY OIL. BEFORE CHECKING I PURCHASED A QUART AND FOUND OUT I HAD ENOUGH OIL IN THE CAR. THE RATTLE WAS STILL PRESENT SO I PURCHASED OIL, FILTER AND DECIDED NO HARM WOULD COME FROM REFRESHING THE OIL IN THE CAR. I KEPT MY RPM UNDER 3,000 ON...

IN MAY 2019 I HAD A REPAIR DONE DUE TO A RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN OCTOBER 2020 BARELY 1 1/2 YEARS LATER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT AGAIN. AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY 1YR IT WASN'T COVERED. I HAD IT REPLACED AT MY COST A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED 10PLUS YEARS ONLY TO HAVE MY CAR STALL AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER. I HAD IT TOWED DIRECTLY TO KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS STILL CURRENTLY. THEY SAID THE ENGINE IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. KIA STATES THAT GOOD WILL DOESN'T EXTEND THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL IN AN ABNORMAL RATE. IT BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING OF 2020. I ALWAYS TOOK MY CAR FOR RECOMMEND MAINTENANCE TO THE KIA OF CARSON IN CALIFORNIA. NOW ABOUT EVERY MONTH I HAVE TO TOP OFF THE OIL. AN ESTIMATE OF LESS THAN 600 MILES PER MONTH. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM AT A LIGHT THE CAR WILL SHAKE A BIT. ALSO IF I USE THE AC THE CAR WILL SHAKE A BIT AS WELL IT DID NOT DO THAT BEFORE. IF AM DRIVING I DON'T FEEL THAT SHAKES. THE FIRST TIME THAT I NOTICED SOMETHING WAS GOING ON I WAS AT STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR SHAKED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO TURN OFF. AFTER THAT IT SHAKES IF AM TOO LONG AT A LIGHT BUT NOT TOO HARD.
I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE TIMES AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF THE CAR CAN BE FIXED BACK TO THE WAY THE CAR ORIGINAL WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION BESIDES NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I AM CAPABLE OF FIXING MY CAR IF IT'S MY FAULT BUT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE A SECOND HAND SPECIALIST ASSIST IN THIS MATTER.

ROD BEARING FAILURE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING SIGNS, AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE'S OIL/ENGINE CHANGED OR FILTERED AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF TIMES. SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING BETWEEN 80K-120K MILES ON AVERAGE. WHEN ENGINE SEIZED THE SOUL DROVE AS NORMAL, BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE AND SECONDS LATER IT SHUT OFF.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO WHAT I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED. THERE IS CURRENTLY ONLY A RECALL FOR THE BASE MODEL OF THE KIA SOUL BUT THIS IS AFFECTING THE + AND ! MODELS OF THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AND 19V120000 RECALL DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO COVER ALL ENGINES IN ALL MODELS OF THIS VEHICLE, THE 2.0L GDI. AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED IN MY PRIOR COMPLAINT, MY VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND WHILE DRIVING MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. NO WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED ON MY VEHICLE. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ROD HAD PIERCED THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING THE OIL TO LEAK. THIS IS URGENT THAT THIS RECALL IS EXTENDED TO THE 2.0L ENGINE.
THE ENGINE BLEW, LEAKING OIL. APPARENTLY A LIFTER WAS MAKING A TAPPING NOISE, WE WERE TOLD THE ENGINE WAS UNREPAIRABLE.

I WAS DRIVING. I CAME TO A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WENT. I PUSHED ON GAS. THE PERSON N FRONT OF ME HIT BRAKES. I HIT MY BRAKES, FELT A HUGE JOLT. I HAVE CONTACTED YOU PREVIOUSLY STATING MY VEHICLE HAD ISSUES THAT WERE A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP CHECKING FOR MY VIN TO GET ADDED TO A RECALL LIST. NOW THIS HAS HAPPENED. WHEN I WAS DRIVING TODAY DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK WHILE I PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK CONTINUOUSLY. I GET HOME SAFELY AND THE CAR IS STILL SHAKING. SO I TAKE IT FOR AN ENGINE TESTING AND COME TO FIND OUT CYLINDER 3 IS MISFIRING AND NOW THE CAR WON'T EVEN PULL THE HILL.
TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO MY LOCAL KIA DEALER FOR A LETTER TITLED "PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN" SENT FROM "CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS" TO PERFORM A "SOFTWARE UPDATE ON 2014-2016 GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION (GDI) ENGINE TO PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM EXCESSIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING DAMAGE. CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS REPLACING, CLOGGED AND BROKEN. WENT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE SAID CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHOULD NOT BREAK/CLOG LIKE THIS FOR YEARS. CAR HAS WEAK ACCELERATION, AND MAY EVEN SEIZE AND STOP ACCELERATION WHILE THE GAS IS BEING APPLIED.
