THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X MODEL BEGAN VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT END AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE SHAKING STARTED MILDLY THEN BECAME VIOLENT. I SLOWED DOWN AND THE SHAKING SUBSIDED BUT THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN THE TRAFFIC FLOW IS MOVING AT FASTER RATES. AN ON-LINE SEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS COMMON IN THIS MODEL. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING AT 45 MPH I MADE A SLIGHT LEFT TURN IN THE ROAD AND WENT OVER A LONG SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD MAYBE FROM A ROAD SEAM THAT WAS FILLED IN. BOTH WHEELS HIT IT AT THE SAME TIME AND THE JEEP SLOWLY STARTED SHAKING UNTIL IT BECAME VERY VIOLENT INSIDE THE JEEP. I HAD TO SLOW MY SPEED DOWN TO APPROX 10 MPH TO GET IT TO STOP. I HAPPENED TO HAVE A COWORKER BEHIND ME WHO SAW THE WHOLE THING FROM BEHIND AND SAID THE CAR WAS SHAKING BACK AND FORTH SO MUCH THAT IT LOOKED LIKE MY RIMS WERE ALMOST TOUCHING THE ROAD SINCE MY TIRE TREADS STAYED STRAIGHT. IT FELT LIKE I HAD 4 FLATS. I CHANGED THE STEERING DAMPENER AND THE SHOCKS TO RANCHO BRAND WHICH ARE LARGER THAN THE OEM BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT NOT NEARLY AS BAD SINCE I NOW...

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING ON 4 LANE NON-INTERSTATE ROAD IN THE RAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE THAT SEEMED TO AFFECT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE ONLY AND THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS THOUGH SOMETHING HAD CAME LOOSE. THERE WAS A STRONG PULL TO THE LEFT ALSO. I'M THINKING I WILL HAVE TO GET THE FRONT END CHECKED OUT, STOPPED AT A GROCERY STORE FOR A FEW THINGS AND WHEN HEADED HOME THE SHAKE IS STILL THERE, BUT NOT SO VIOLENT. PARKED AT HOME OVERNIGHT AND HEADED OUT THE NEXT DAY TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND THERE IS NO SHAKE WHATSOEVER, VEHICLE DRIVES LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I SEE A PROBLEM OTHERS SEEM TO BE HAVING EXACTLY LIKE MINE AND IT'S BEING CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". IT HAS NOT DONE THIS SINCE THIS ONE TIME BUT IT HAS ME WORRIED...
I BOUGHT A NEW 2007 JEEP WRANGLER DEATH WOBBLE STARTED AT 70,000 MILES MARK MITSUBISHI IN PHOENIX AZ HAS NOT HELPED ME OUT AT ALL IT GOES EVERY 10,000 MILES ON ME AND THEY JUST REPLACED MY TIRES. DEATH WOBBLE OCCURRED THE DAY AFTER AND BEFORE. HOW DO WE ALL GET TOGETHER WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND GET JEEP TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A DEFECTIVE FRONT END. STEERING COLUMN SHAKES VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING SMALL BUMPS, USUALLY IN A TURN. VERY CLOSE TO CAUSING ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE NEED TO BRAKE QUICKLY TO SLOW DOWN AND ELIMINATE THE SHAKING. ON THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. STOCK 2007 WITH FAIRLY NEW ORIGINAL SIZE TIRES WRANGLER WITH "DEATH WOBBLE" AT 55 MILES AN HOURS THE JEEP BEGIN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND I HAD TO SLOW BELOW 45 FOR THE WOBBLE TO STOP. AFTER I HAD THE RECOMMENDED UPGRADE TO THE STEERING DAMPENER I WAS TRAVELING THROUGH A CANYON ON I-70 AND WENT OVER AN EXPANSION JOINT. I TOOK MY WIFE'S 2007 JEEP WRANGLER JK (4 DOOR AUTOMATIC) TO COURTHOUSE SHELL HERE LOCALLY TO GET THE STATE INSPECTION DONE (MY FIRST TIME FOR THIS SINCE PURCHASING IT ON JULY 1ST 2012 FROM CHECKERED FLAG TOYOTA IN GREENBRIER). THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORST TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT MY JEEP USED IN OCT OF 2011 THAT IT DID THIS HORRIBLE SHAKING BETWEEN 55-60 MPH. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN EXCESS OF 70MPH WHEN I HIT A VERY MINOR IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO SHAKE/HOP AND STEERING BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE I NEARLY CAUSED A MAJOR PILE UP ON I-35. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND I'VE OWNED THE CAR VERY LITTLE TIME. UNCONTROLLABLE WOBBLE IN FRONT END ON HIGHWAY CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE (REFERRED TO AS THE DEATH WOBBLE)
EXPERIENCED JEEP WRANGLER'S DEATH WOBBLE...MY VEHICLE SHOOK SO BAD I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE WRANGLER'S I HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH EST. WHILE ON INTERSTATE 80 IN NEW JERSEY ALMOST CAUSING A MULTIPLY VEHICLES CRASH. JUST LEFT DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY MY CONCERNS. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON 11/1/12 DRIVING AT 60 MPH. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF NO WHERE THE JEEP'S FRONT END STARTED SHAKING OUT OF CONTROL. IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT END WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF.. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE JEEP AT THIS POINT SO I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE TO ABOUT 20 MPH BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPPED. TODAY I TOOK IT IN TO A LOCAL ALIGNMENT SHOP SO THEY CAN DIAGNOSE IT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WHOLE FRONT STEERING ASSEMBLY IS ABOUT SHOT! THEY SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT THE MOST WEAR WAS ON THE TIE RODS AND FRONT TRACK BAR IN WHICH WILL CAUSE THE GEOMETRY OF THE STEERING TO BE THROWN OFF. THEY CALLED IT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND THAT IT WAS COMMON IN THESE JEEPS. I TRULY THINK THAT JEEP NEEDS TO OPEN A RECALL FOR THESE PARTS...
MY JEEP HAS THE DEATH WOBBLE, HAS NOW FOR YEARS. AS ADVISED IHAVE REPLACED TIRES AND HAD AN ALLIGNMENT, FIXED IT FOR A WHILE, NOW ITS BACK, REPLACED TIRES AND ALLIGNMENT ALSO BALANCED AND NOW REPLACING THE STEERING DAMPER. THERE ARE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. EVERY MECHANIC I CALLED HAD HEARD OF IT OR EXPERIENCED IT. THERE HAVE BEEN NEWS PIECES DONE ABOUT IT AND NOW CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN BLAMING IT ON EVERYONE ELSE BUT THEIR POOR DESIGN. THEY SHOULD E HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I HAVE NOT LIFTED MY JEEP AND NOTHING BESIDES TIRES AND NOW THIS STEERING DAMPER HAS BEEN REPLACED - SO ALL STOCK. THEY NEED TO BE FORCED TO GET TO THE ROOT OF THIS AND REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND LABOR TIME IT TAKES TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THIS. IT MAY NOT IN AND OF ITSELF...
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 40 MPH, JEEP STRUCK A SMALL (VERY SHALLOW) POTHOLE. FRONT END OF JEEP BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OTHER OCCASSIONS IN THE LAST MONTH, ALL BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH. EACH TIME THE JEEP HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. JEEP IS STOCK, NO LIFTS, NO OFF ROAD USE, ORIGINAL FACTORY TIRES: GOODYEAR WRANGLER P255/75R17, PROPERLY INLFATED TO FACTORY SPECS, LOW MILEAGE 27394. THE WOBBLE DOESN'T STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED DRASTICALLY, STEERING IS DIFFICULT WHILE THE WOBBLE IS OCCURING. IS THIS A RECALL ITEM? MANUFACTURE REIMBURSEMENT? I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA FOR THE PAST YEAR NOW. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED I REPLACED THE TIRES AND IT APPEARED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR 8-9 MONTHS. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE BUT COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE I FOUND OUT THAT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE KNOWN AS A "DEATH WOBBLE." I WAS LUCKY IN THAT I WAS DRIVING ON A RARELY TRAVELED BACK ROAD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY I COULD SEE THIS AS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
DEATH WOBBLE - I CAN DRIVE THE JEEP DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE IT HITS ABOVE 45 MILES AN HOUR IT WILL START TO SHAKE EXTENSIVELY. I HAVE TO START PUTTING ON THE BREAK IMMEDIATELY TO STOP THE JEEP FROM SHAKING AND REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WITH THE SPEED LIMITS ON THE HIGHWAYS 60 - 75 MILES AN HOUR THE VEHICLE PROBLEM MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TAKE MANY HIGHWAYS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 40-45MPH MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A BUMP. WHEN THAT HAPPENED THE ENTIRE FRONT END BEGAN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. THE ONLY THING THAT CURED THE ISSUE WAS TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE. ONCE IT GOT DOWN TO ABOUT 15MPH IT FINALLY STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS JEEP. THIS JEEP IS A DEATH TRAP AND A MONEY TRAP. MY FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED FEB 16TH, 2011 AND COST 600.00. NEEDED A NEW STEERING DAMPNER WHICH THEY REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER SAME THING HAPPENS AND THEY REPLACE THE SAME PIECE WITH THE NEWER STEERING DAMPNER. I HAD IT ALIGNED & THE WHEELS BALANCED, WHICH HELPED A LITTLE, BUT IT WAS STILL SHAKING. TWO MONTHS LATER I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY'RE REPLACING ALL THE BALL JOINTS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HUB ON THE FRONT AXLE. I HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE UPPER BALL JOINTS PREVIOUSLY. *JS
