In 2022, I paid over $15,000 to an official Jeep dealership (Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM City, Greenwich CT) to replace the engine in my Jeep Wrangler. Without clear disclosure or consent, they installed a non-OEM Jasper remanufactured engine. The invoice misleadingly stated “ALL PARTS ARE NEW UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED,” with no mention of Jasper or warranty terms. The vehicle began malfunctioning almost immediately, raising multiple serious safety concerns, confirmed by written service exchanges: •“The Jeep is stopping alone! Just crazy, brakes come on alone” — 🛑 Spontaneous brake engagement poses a serious crash risk. •“It also smells strong gas when turning the car on” — 🚨 Potential fuel leak or misfire, which is a fire hazard. •“The Jeep is malfunctioning,” “check engine light came back on,” “needs a PCM”, followed by: “I’m not sure this is a computer problem, but the motor you folks placed in the car.” — ⚠️...
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE ENGINE OF MY JEEP CAUGHT FIRE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO PUT IT OUT WITHOUT SUCCESS THE ENGINE ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND THE WHOLE JEEP BURNT I CALLED THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE CAME
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD & MY MOTOR JUST CUTS OFF. HAPPENED 3 TIMES OVER THE PAST WEEKEND & HAPPENED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO.. VERY DANGEROUS & FRIGHTENING. AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK, IT ALWAYS RESTARTS. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER . THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS SMOG
LOSS OF ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. A POROUS TIMING COVER CAUSED THE BEARINGS TO WEAR OUT REQUIRING AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT ONLY 100,000 MILES. JEEP/CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF ITS POROUS TIMING COVER, AND PUBLISHED TSB 09-008-07. THE COMPANY SHOULD PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF THIS ENGINE. *TR
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE SITTING IN DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF HOME 30 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TOTAL LOSS.
THE THROTTLE CONTROL RANDOMLY GOES OUT, WHILE IT IS EASY TO RESET THE SENSOR, SO THE VEHICLE REMAINS DRIVEABLE, IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR CROSSING THE HIGHWAY WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS TURNING ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE PEOPLE ARE DOING 60MPH AND SUDDENLY MID TURN THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND DOESN'T WANT TO MOVE WHILE CARS COME SPEEDING AT YOU.
THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY MY CAR DIED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD RAN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON. I FILLED UP WITH THE GAS CAN AND THE JEEP DID NOT START. I TRIED TO JUMP IT USING CABLES AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY, THE JEEP STARTED AFTER THAT. YESTERDAY I GOT AN OIL CHANGE, THEY CHECKED MY BATTERY AND SHOWED ME THE OIL AFTER THE CHANGE, SAID EVERYTHING WAS GOLDEN. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME WHEN MY BATTERY LIGHT POPPED ON AGAIN, I KIND OF SHOOK IT OFF CONSIDERING I JUST REPLACED IT. WELL MY CAR JERKED ME FORWARD, EVERY SINGLE LIGHT TURNED ON AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGH WAY AS MUCH AS I COULD AND MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD....
MY O2 SENSORS (ALL 4) AND MY ECU CONTINUED TO COME UP FAULTY. I TOOK MY JEEP TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR MAN TOLD MY THAT MY LEFT AND RIGHT MANIFOLDS WERE CRACKED AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. ALSO HAD A BOLT THAT HAD BROKEN OFF ONE OF THE MANIFOLDS.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, INSIDE OF GARAGE WITH HIGH CEILINGS. VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER SITTING WITH ENGINE OFF FOR MORE 3 HOURS. LOOKED LIKE STARTED AT FUSE BOX AREA. *TT *TR
BOUGHT THE CAR USED. HAD PLENTY OF OIL AND BASED ON THE DATE AND MILES FROM THE PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE HAD ABOUT 600 MILES LEFT BEFORE NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE. NO LIGHT CAME ON NO GAGE INFORMED US THAT I WAS LOW ON OIL AND MY ENGINE SEIZED, I REPLACED THE ENGINE $6000.00 LATER AND NOW THE BRAKE HOSE STARTED SHOOTING OIL ALL OVER MY REAR TIRES WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND NEARLY CRASHED HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEATH TRAP. IF IT IS ME THAN I AM GOING TO ALL LOCAL NEWS STATIONS TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS HOW DANGEROUS THESE JEEPS ARE
THE SEAT BELTS IN THE BACK WHEN BUCKLING ARE LOCKED. MAKING IT HARD TO MOVE AROUND. SINCE DAY THE I BOUGHT THE CAR. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING. ONLY AFTER MY WARRANTIES WERE UP DID THEY SAY THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM IF I PAID FOR THE LABOR. THE ENGINE HAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM ALSO FROM THE FIRST DAY I BOUGHT IT, THE DEALERSHIP HAS COVERED IT UP AGAIN UNTIL THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THEY FOUND 5 LEAKY AREAS IN THE ENGINE.
JEEP VIOLENTLY POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE L. HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. FROM DOING RESEARCH ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WHO OWN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION JEEP MODEL. THIS CAN BE EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS WHEN GOING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS OR CHANGING LANES AS THE JEEP WILL POP OUT IF GEAR AND NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE DAY ONE OF ME PURCHASING IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS OUT OF OIL AND CONTAINED METAL FRAGMENTS, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. NO LEAKS WERE FOUND TO SUPPORT WHY THE ENGINE WAS OUT OF OIL. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
MY JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X HAS STALLED 3 TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND THE VEHICLE'S POWER GOES OUT FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE NO MORE THAN 2 SECONDS. THERE HAVE BEEN QUITE A FEW OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS JEEP, BUT MOST HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE LIFETIME DRIVE-TRAIN WARRANTY. RE: QUESTION #2 I CAN NOT GIVE ANY DATES, SO I PUT TODAY'S DATE. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEM 3X'S AS IT IS AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. *TR
CAR DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDDLE. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE NOVEMBER 1 2014. TWO FAULT CODES WERE FOUND THE DEALER (PAPA DODGE) REPLACED EGR AND GASKET VALVE. I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT 10 DAYS LATER AND TOLD THEM THE CAR STILL DID NOT HAVE POWER WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDDLE. THE SUPERVISOR OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOOK JEEP FOR TEST DRIVE AND SAID HE DIDN'T SEE A PROBLEM. ON DECEMBER 25 ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ON DECEMBER 26 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR AND SAW SMOKE CAME TO COMPLETED STOP. UNDER THE CAR FRONT IN THE FRONT UNDER HOOD WAS ON FIRE PASSENGER SIDE. POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED IMMEDIATELY AND PUT OUT FIRE UNDER HOOD ENGINE. CAR WAS COMPLETELY BURNED OUT. *TR

I HAVE HAD 4 ELECTRICAL/ENGINE EVENTS WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURRING IN JULY, 2014 AFTER PICKING UP MY KIDS FROM CAMP. WHILE DRIVING WESTBOUND ON THE HIGHWAY TO PARUMPH NV THE ENGINE STALLED OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. I WAS LUCKY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC GOING MY DIRECTION AND THE HIGHWAY WAY FAIRLY STRAIGHT. AND YES, COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V436000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
PURCHASED 2007 WRANGLER SAHARA NEW. MAINTAINED VEHICLE AS SUGGESTED BY MANUFACTURER. NOTICED EARLY ON THE 3.8 L V6 BURNED OIL. WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL, SO I ADDED A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES. AT 51,000 MILES NOTICED A LOUD KNOCK. IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. I HAD CHANGED THE OIL AT 50,000 MILES BUT SOMEHOW LOST ALL OF THE OIL IN 1,000 MILES. NEVER HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OIL WARNING LIGHT, NO OIL SHOWING ON THE GROUND. DEALER WANTED $7,000 TO INSTALL REMANUFACTURED LONG BLOCK. WOULD NOT CALL CHRYSLER ON MY BEHALF EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD BEEN THE ONE SERVICING THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE OUT OF WARRANTY. THREE DIFFERENT CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE ABOVE THEM AS THE DECISION (MADE IN ONE HOUR) WAS FINAL. THEY REFUSED...
WHILE DRIVING ON PAVED, CITY BOULEVARD, I HEARD A VERY SHORT, ALMOST INAUDIBLE "BEEP" WARNING, BUT SAW NO WARNING LIGHTS. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, I HEARD THE SAME VERY SHORT "BEEP", AGAIN, NO WARNING LIGHT. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, A "BEEP" ACCOMPANIED BY THE CHECK OIL LIGHT. I STOPPED CHECKED OIL. I WAS LOW. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD LOW OIL ON THIS VEHICAL, BOUGHT NEW. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK MORE OF DRIVING THE CHECK OIL LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON AND I HEARD A SUDDEN LOUD KNOCKING FROM THE ENGINE. A DIAGNOSTIC INDICATES THE ENGINE IS "SEIZED" AND NEEDS REPLACING. AT LESS THAN 5700 MILES OF EASY DRIVING, I FIND THIS INCREDULOUS.
FIRST OCCURRENCE DEC 6TH 2012, BACKING OUT OF AN INCLINED DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE SEEMED AS IF IT HAD NO POWER, STALLED, SPITTING AND SPUTTERING LIKE IT WAS STARVING FOR GAS. FINALLY GOT IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABOUT 15 MILES FROM CLOSEST JEEP DEALERSHIP IN OCALA FL, AND NURSED IT THERE, SPITTING AND SPUTTERING AND STALLING THE WHOLE TRIP. LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AND GOT A CALL THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY HAD FOUND THE PROBLEM AND A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS WRONG (UNRELATED TO THE PROBLEM) I APPROVED THE FIXES AND AFTER $677.00 LATER DROVE OFF THE LOT. THE ONLY THING I CAN SEE ON THE INVOICE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM IS A LINE THAT READS "CLEANER-FUELSYSTEM" AND HAS A $59.00 PART AND A $106.00 LABOR CHARGE. ON JANUARY 13TH 2013 IT STARTS ACTING UP AGAIN. I TAKE IT BACK TO SAME DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY...

JEEP DIED COMPLETELY - LOST POWER AND ELECTRICAL WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON A HWY. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED - EACH TIME UNDER DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE WITH JEEP UPTO JANUARY 22, 2007 MODELS. MY JEEP IS A FEBRUARY 2007 MODEL SO THEY ARE SAYING MY JEEP IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA. THE DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND AFTER 3 MONTHS AND ABOUT 1,800 MILES OF DRIVING MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP(VALVOLINE QUICK LUBE) TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY MENTIONED THE OIL PLUG WAS STRIPPED AND THAT THERE WAS SILICONE CAULK TO HELP SEAL THE OIL PLUG. AT THIS POINT I HAD THEM REPLACE THE OIL PLUG AND WAS CONTENT WITH THE SERVICE. AFTER DRIVING 500-600 MILES AFTER THE OIL CHANGE I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS LOW AS IF IT WAS DISAPPEARING. I BOUGHT THE JEEP NEW IN FEBRUARY/MARCH OF 2007. IN DECEMBER 2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 45K MILES, I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE BOTTOM END OF THE ENGINE. TOOK THE JEEP TO MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE CENTER AND THEY CONFIRMED THE KNOCKING SOUND. I THEN TOOK THE JEEP TO LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS SPUN BEARINGS AND THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL PAN. THEY PUT IN A NEW MOTOR (CHRYSLER OFFERED SOME ASSISTANCE AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING AND ARGUING ON MY SIDE, BUT IT STILL COST ME $1,500 AS IT AS OUT OF WARRANTY). NOW, IN AUGUST 2012, AT A TOTAL OF 90K MILES (APPROXIMATELY 45K ON THE NEW MOTOR), THE BEARINGS ARE SPUN AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD MOTOR IN THIS JEEP. I HAVE THE RECEIPTS FROM MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE CENTER SHOWING THAT I HAVE REGULARLY...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND ENTERING INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE AND CRASHED INTO A CULVERT. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE ARMS AND LEGS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD COME TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
