2015 JEEP RENEGADE Engine Problems

I am driving down the road and the vehicle goes into neutral and the engine turns off. I then have to stop the vehicle and restart it. When I hit the starter button. It sputters and then starts. This has been happening irregularly 1-3 times a week since it started in December of 2025.With last time happening being on 2/16/2026.

Low oil pressure indication light came on and then off. Vehicle taken to Jeep, they informed us that the 2.4L engine was consuming oil which led to internal damage to engine. Service associate claims Jeep had a recall on this specific problem with this specific engine.

I purchased in 2015 (Jeep Renegade). The dealership promised a “lifetime warranty” for the duration of my ownership, but despite repeated service visits over the past 10 years for persistent electrical problems, they have refused to honor this warranty. It has come to my recent attention that the two major reasons jeep has stopped making the Renegade was due to electrical and engine issues. I was driving my vehicle and all of the sudden it just turned off and said vehicle shift to P to select gear, and I kept pressing the gas and it wouldn’t move , I have nothing on my dash no lights or anything.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. While the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. The contact stated several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact's husband attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle eventually started. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed shift solenoid number 5 control circuit range performance. The contact was informed that the shift solenoid number 5 circuit range performance needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,300.

When starting the car and letting it warm up for 2 minutes. The vehicle shifts hard or takes it time to shift into next gear, and while idling for less than 5 minutes, the car warms up 32 degrees. Which I do not believe the fan motor is working properly. Also took car to dealership blown trans and engine mounts.

Complaint Summary: I brought my 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk (VIN: [XXX] ) to AutoNation CDJR Roseville on May 17, 2025, for the U90 emissions recall. The catalytic converter was replaced, and the PCM software was updated. However, the U0402 diagnostic trouble code (implausible data received from TCM) remains stored. This code has been persistent and prevents the vehicle from passing California emissions, which is required for my registration as the car was transferred from out-of-state. The service advisor initially stated that the TCM was updated, but later corrected himself and admitted the TCM already had the latest version and was not reprogrammed. I have not been given written confirmation that the TCM software or wiring was verified or addressed. I am concerned the dealership is refusing to properly resolve this under recall and is instead recommending a full transmission replacement without supporting mechanical codes or verifying the emissions system software/communication...

The 2015 Jeep Renegade has had a vibrating sensation since I purchased it used in 2021 from an auto dealership. The vibrations got stronger as time went on. The issue was finally determined what caused the vibrations in May, 2025 and confirmed by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was inspected by a Jeep dealer previously. The vehicle was not inspected by the police or insurance representatives. The auto needed a new Engine Motor Mount. A new one was installed on the front right side, engine mount. The auto is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk because a failed mount leads to excessive engine movement, which can damage other components, affect handling, and lead to accidents.

The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP system), including components such as the charcoal canister, purge valve, and/or fuel tank venting system, appears to be malfunctioning. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. After refueling the vehicle completely, it will stall or shut off unexpectedly while driving, which could cause a collision, particularly in traffic or at highway speeds. This sudden loss of power places myself, my passengers, and other drivers at significant risk. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent mechanic, but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No warning lights, error messages, or advance symptoms were present prior to the vehicle stalling. The issue first occurred around 2022.

The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle decelerated to 15 MPH and failed to accelerate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that a multi-air actuator replacement was needed. The part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that DTC: P0304, P106B, and P1064 were retrieved and were related to the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. I have a U90 recall on my vehicle. I have contacted Jeep dealerships and the Jeep Corp Regarding this issue. I have been told that the parts are on back order and it will be months possibly a year to complete this recall. This is my daily driver and dmv won’t re register the vehicle without the recall being repaired. This is unacceptable. This is my daily driver and has passed smog no issues.

While return home from trip motor started running rough. Took to Dodge dealership they confirmed no compression on #3 cylinder and low compression on #4. The motor was replaced on 7/19/23. Invoice cost of $8946.18.

Vehicle overheating due to non functioning radiator fan. There was a recall on same model, but none listed for my specific vin. unknown as to when symptoms first appeared. vehicle overheats more when car is stopped/in idle.

Car randomly stalls in park, when reversing, when in drive but brake is being applied, or when first accelerating after putting into drive. Several times now it has stalled when I'm at stop lights. One time it stalled after just tapping the brake while approaching a stop light. That was terrifying because the car was still in motion. Also, car randomly jerks hard when shifting gears. Recently, car doesn't want to shift while accelerating up hills, and RPM's can get up to 4.5 or 5. No engine light or other warnings lights ever come on. Motor mounts were damaged and car would shake excessively. got them replaced and they were broken again 3 months later. i have seen several people with the same issue on reddit in jeep renegades models 2015-2016. I was in a fender bender on 8/4/2023 and car was fine for a few days and then it started throwing the engine around again. I had issues that I thought were the transmission but after experiencing this repeatedly I took it in to the dealer where I bought it they said they couldn’t find a problem next time it was software updates and fixed then next time still cutting out said motor mounts were broken $1,300 fixed it I finally understood that it was ACTUALLY stopping!! I bought a 2015 Jeep Renegade in October of 2021 (last year) and have experienced the vehicle stalling TWICE in the middle of traffic. I was informed of the recall by Carmax after the deal was drawn up and the vehicle delivered to me on October 4, 2021. I took the vehicle to Class Jeep in Arlington, Texas, (see attached documents) who refused to replace the engine of the vehicle – the reason for the Recall. I have done all that I can do and exhausted every means necessary to have the recall completed and the vehicle replaced or repaired to bring up to operating standard. I currently owe $21,000.00 on a vehicle that is non-operable. Carvana delivered the car with a rotted battery (paperwork attached); and, a faulty brake job (where new brakes had been put on top of bad rotors) which they felt $200.00 should cover the cost...

Transmission when driving it sticks in 9 gear. Loss power. Two years ago the value body was replaced, then 2-3 months ago it started the same loss of power dealer checked found nothing said to drive it see if it happens again.Two week ago took it back in to the dealer and they replaced the valve body for a 2nd time. Left the shop a few hours later the same thing happened again. Driving the highway and no power. Took it right back to the dealer on Saturday. Have not heard anything from them yet.The transmission service light goes on and the check engine light.

Vehicle throttle lags from a take off causing dangerous conditions while merging on to highway and turning on busy city streets.

The vehicle engine has been shaking moderately since we purchased it. The dealer told us that is just the way the vehicle sounds and feels. Recently it has begun to shake more while stopped in traffic or at a light. The dealer told us the engine mount was broken. The vehicle has only 33,354 miles. This is a safety issue as the engine could become dislodged and cause an accident as well as the fluids would be a hazardous materials exposure endangering potential wildlife. Jeep originally told me it was covered under warranty and then later changed their mind. Either way it is a defective part of the power train and dangerous.

excess moisture causing condensation freezing in the muffler assembly and not allowing engine to start. Was stranded for 2 days. Had Jeep towed to dealership after a few hours dealership was able to contact a certified jeep dealer and diagnose the problem. No warning lights on the dash came on at all not even the check engine light. In doing research and talking with dealership this is a very well known issue as well as there are service bulletins on this issue. as well as speaking with lots of people online they have had this issue as well. why is there no campagin or recall on this issue.

Outside Temperature Sensor fail in temperature under 31 degrees which causes check engine light to come on and disables four wheel drive to engage while driving in snowy conditions. Took Jeep to dealership repair cost $600 for a vehicle I’ve only owned for 25 days with 51,000 miles, they informed me that later down the road I will have to repeat this process again because this is a very common expensive problem in Jeep forum.

ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON LIGHTING ON AND OFF. I WENT TO MECHANIC AND IT'S THE COOLANT THERMOSTAT. WHICH MIGHT BE AFFECTING MY INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE. MY CAR'S RADIATOR FAN STARTED RATTLING AND AFTER LOOKING FURTHER INTO THE ISSUE, I FOUND ENDLESS SOURCES OF OWNERS OF THE SAME CAR AS ME THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. IF NOT DILIGENTLY ACKNOWLEDGED AND FIXED, THE RADIATOR FAN MOTOR WILL EVENTUALLY GO OUT. THIS HAS CAUSED SMOKING AND FLAMES AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE. MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY 3 TIMES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS VERY JERKY. IT HAS LED TO THE ENGINE MOUNTS BECOMING WORN, CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT TO BE WORN AT ONLY 71,213 MILES, AND THE DRIVE SHAFT BECOMING BROKEN. THIS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY A REPAIR SHOP AND A JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER SAYS THAT THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE AND ATTRIBUTE IT TO THE TIRE BEING IMPROPERLY MOUNTED BY THE FACTORY. THIS IS ALSO A KNOWN ISSUE DOCUMENTED IN VIDEOS AND ONLINE FORUMS. THIS IS A MATTER OF SAFETY AND COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE DEALERSHIP RAN INTO A VIN ERROR THAT WE WERE TOLD WAS FIXED, BUT IT NEVER WAS BECAUSE WE REMAIN HAVING ISSUES WITH INSURANCE. I WORK IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LOOKED UP NHTSA DOCUMENTATION THAT SAYS THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER UPON FINDING A DISCREPANCY AND APPARENTLY THIS WAS NEVER DONE. I AM REPLACING MY COOLANT FAN FOR THE THIRD TIME! I AM REPLACING MY DAY RUNNING LIGHT FOR THE SEVENTH TIME. THE COOLANT FAN STOP RUNNING AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS. THE LIGHT HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES .

THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 1.4 TURBO ENGINE IN MY 2015 JEEP RENEGADE LATITUDE BURNING ENGINE OIL UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING ON THE DIPSTICK. I USUALLY GET AN INDICATION ON MY DASH THAT I HAVE LOW OIL PRESSURE, THEN I GO TO THE STORE AND BUY THE EURO SYNTHETIC OIL TO TOP OFF THE OUL UNTIL I CAN GET TO A SERVICE STATION OR THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE OIL CHANGE NEEDS TO BE DONE EVEY 3,000 MILES OR SO, OR I WILL BE OUT OF OIL. THE DEALER HAS RUN SOME TESTS AND ISN'T ABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. IT JUST BURNS OIL AND IT IS, OF COURSE, NO LONGER UNDER A WARRANTY. BESIDES THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS OTHER WEIRD PROBLEMS THAT HAPPEN AND CAN NOT BE IDENTIFIED. I THINK THIS 2015 JEEP RENEGADE IS A LEMON. I BOUGHT IT USED AND IT WAS...

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RANDOMLY COMES ON AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY AND THEN GOES BACK OFF. LAST TIME IT WAS ON, WENT TO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD IT HOOKED UP TO THE DIALYSIS MACHINE AND IT STATED THAT THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED REPLACING. BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER STAYS ON. AFTER I STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT, IT'S OFF. IT ALSO RANDOMLY LURCHES FORWARD OR SHAKES WHILE IN DRIVE OR PARKED. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR FAN WHICH KEPT BLOWING FUSES DUE TO THE FAN GOING OFF TRACK AND GETTING STUCK. I THOUGHT THAT FIXED THE JUMPING, BUT IT STILL OCCURS. JUST LESS OFTEN. MY MYSKY PANEL ENGINE IS ALSO BROKEN AND WILL NOT OPEN. STARTS TO OPEN, THEN CLOSES OR STOPS COMPLETELY AFTER ONLY AN INCH OR TWO OF OPENING.

IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS MY JEEP HAS STALLED THREE TIMES. EACH TIME I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR EASILY AND THEN START DRIVING ONCE I SLOWED DOWN TO STOP SIGN OR TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. IN ONE INSTANCE I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSH OFF TO THE SIDE OF THOSE QUICKLY TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY. BUT IN ANOTHER I WAS IMPEATING TRAFFIC AND IT WAS VERY UNSAFE. I'VE HAD DIFFICULTY IN JUMPSTARTING THE ENGINE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE.I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR AND CHECKING THE REST OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WHICH SEEMS FINE BUT THIS ISSUE KEEPS COMING UP AND THE CAR KEEPS STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC.

I HAVE A HARD TIME PUTTING GAS IN THE CAR THOUGH IT WAS THE PUMP BUT IT'S EVERYWHERE I GO AND IT EATS UP A LOT OF GAS. THE ELECTRICAL MESSED UP SOMETIMES IT WON'T START I GOT A NEW BATTERY AND EVERYTHING BUT THE SERVICE PEOPLE SAID IT HAS TO BE ELECTRICAL MY KEYS NEVER WORK I HAVE TO MANUALLY USE KEY AND LOCK THE DOOR FROM INSIDE MY GEARS THE ENGINE IDEALS HIGH AND CAR JERKS SOMETIMES WHEN I'M TAKING OFF

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP RENEGADE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RIEDMAN MOTORS CO INC, LOCATED AT 610 N GRAND AVE, CONNERSVILLE, IN 47331, FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE RESET HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ISSUE CAUSED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.

MY JEEP RENEGADE STALLS WHEN I MAKE A SLOW SPEED TURN. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN TO GET ON THE ON RAMP TO A LAH, THE CAR DIES. I ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND BY PEOPLE TRYING TO GO UP THE ON -RAMP BEHIND ME. THE CAR DIES WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN CROSSING TRAFFIC & I ALMOST GOT KILLED. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT BLINKS. THESE INCIDENTS TAKE PLACE ON DRY PAVEMENT. I NOW SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES ARE POSTING COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ON A JEEP FORUM. WHY HAS JEEP / FCA NOT ADDRESSED THIS ? THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE CAR DIES FOR NO REASON AND YOU CAN NOT MOVE THE CAR. THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL ON THIS. THERE ARE DOCUMENTED PROBLEMS WITH THIS & NOTHING IS BEING DONE! MY CAR SHUTS DOWN FOR NO REASON.

THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON TOO LONG WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OFF CAUSING A DEAD BATTERY. NO BIG DEAL I THOUGHT... I JUMPSTART THE CAR PER OWNERS MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS (IT HAS A COMPLEX BATTERY SO EVEN THOUGH I'VE JUMP STARTED MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLES I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THERE WEREN'T SPECIAL PROCEDURES, IT ENDED UP BEING PRETTY STANDARD). WHEN IT DIED IT WAS IN A GARAGE SO I HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE GEAR SELECTOR TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT INTO POSITION FOR A JUMP CONNECTION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND LET THE BATTERY CHARGE UP A WHILE. ONCE THE CAR CHARGED UP ENOUGH, IT STARTED RIGHT UP. AT THIS POINT I THOUGHT I WAS IN THE CLEAR, THAT'S WHEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING FINE, TRANSMISSION WAS FINE BEFORE THE BATTERY DIED. NOT ONLY THAT,...

THIS HAS BEEN AN ON AND OFF GOING ISSUE. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN THE CAR WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR STREETS. A WARNING APPEARS ON MY DASHBOARD SAYING TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK IN ORDER TO SWITCH GEARS. SOMETIMES IT PUTS ME IN NEUTRAL WHEN I'M AT A STREET LIGHT. I'D HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO DRIVE AGAIN BUT IT KEEPS HAPPENING. SEVERAL TIMES I TRY TO TAKE MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF AND IT WOULD CONTINUE TO WORK LIKE NORMAL UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE. IT'S BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND WORSE NOW.

I HAD THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON IN MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST ON IT. THE THERMOSTAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOT EVEN 9 MONTHS LATER, THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING AGAIN. THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON, IT WAS CHECKED, AND NOW MY THERMOSTAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
