I AM WRITING TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN REGARDING AN ENGINE PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER, THAT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL, AND ALL POWER TO SHUT DOWN AND THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. WHILE AT FIRST THIS PROBLEM WAS SIMPLY AN INCONVENIENCE, I SOON LEARNED HOW DANGEROUS THIS PROBLEM ACTUALLY IS. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY AND I WENT TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, MID-PASS MY ENGINE STALLED AND I LOST ALL POWER WITH ANOTHER CAR COMING AT ME HEAD-ON. THANKFULLY THE OTHER CAR WAS ABLE TO STOP AND WE AVOIDED A HEAD-ON COLLISION AT HIGHWAY SPEED, BUT THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. THE STALLING HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MY JEEP NOW FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS, WITH NO RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM IN SIGHT. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL SUGGESTIONS LIKE NOT HAVING A KEY CHAIN AND ONLY USING HE KEY IN MY IGNITION WITH...
ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. FEELS LIKE CAR WILL STALL OR IS SHIFTING GEARS. CODE FROM MECHANIC IS 507 IDLE SPEED, PERFORMANCE, HIGHER THEN EXPECT. *TR
SLOWING DOWN FOR STOPPING OR MAKING A TURN THE ENGINE STOPS; THE CAR DIES. IT HAS BEEN RESTARTING SO FAR. I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO BE KILLED AND/OR CAUSE OTHERS TO BE KILLED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT AS OK. THIS COST ME OVER $300. THEY CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS BUT WARNED ME THIS WAS NOT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. SURE ENOUGH IT IS STILL DYING ON ME. PLEASE HELP ME. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN A DRUNK DRIVER WHO KNOWS BEFORE HE TAKES THAT DRINK THAT HE MAY KILL SOMEONE AND AN AUTO DEALER WHO IGNORE A PROBLEM AND KILLS SOMEONE? THE ENGINE HAS STALLED ON MANY OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND OTHER ROADS. THIS HAS OCCURRED PROBABLY 20-30 TIMES OVER THE PASSED COUPLE OF YEARS. OCCASIONALLY IT WILL STALL FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN KICK BACK IN, BUT MORE OFTEN I WILL HAVE TO LET THE VEHICLE SLOW DOWN AND COAST TO A STOP IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE IF THERE IS ONE. I THEN PUT ON THE FLASHERS, PUT IT IN PARK, TURN OFF THE KEY, WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND START THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS OR IT MAY HAPPEN THE NEXT DAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SCARES MY WIFE AND MYSELF HALF TO DEATH. STALLS OUT WHILE WAITING AT RED LIGHTS STALLS OUT ON THE HIGHWAY FOR NO REASON AND MISFIRES MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGH THE DRIVE DAILY. *TR
JEEP COMMANDER STALLS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME IN LESS THAN A WEEK. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS, THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND THE CAR HAS TO BE PUT INTO PARK IN ORDER TO RESTART IT, AND IS DIFFICULT TO RESTART WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR IS MOVING WHEN IT STALLS. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE OVER HEATING ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,500.
AS I WAS DRIVING MY COMMANDER, IT STARTED TO SPUTTER AND SHIFT GEARS ERRATICALLY AND THEN DIED. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AS I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY, I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR TO CONTINUE TO WORK. AS SOON AS I PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, IT STALLED ONCE AGAIN. ON THE THIRD TRY, I WAS ABLE TO PLACE MY VEHICLE IN GEAR AND COMPLETE MY DRIVE TO WORK BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THIS SAME SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT. *JS

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

MEANWHILE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AND MAINTAINED BY GRAVA CHRYSLER JEEP SINCE NEW THE FIRST TIME WE COMPLAINED AND HAD IT SERVICED WAS JANUARY 2011 AND THE LAST REPORT WAS FEBRUARY 20,2012 AND THEY STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX..LAST YEAR WHILE DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE 93 SPEED APPROX 55 THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WE ALMOST WERE STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, WE HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK TO RESTART.WOULD NOT RESTART IN NEUTRAL. THE TECH AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT SHOULD HAVE,WELL IT DIDN'T. THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH, IT HAPPENED AGAIN,THEY REPLACED SOME MODULE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THEY CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP, IT HAPPENED AGAIN FOR...

ABOUT 9 TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS, MY JEEP COMMANDER 2007 LIMITED V8 HAS STALLED WHILE MOVING CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS INCLUDING LIGHTS, RADIO, DASHBOARD PANEL, ETC TO MOMENTARILY TURN OFF. EACH TIME, THE STALL IS ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD "CLUNKING" NOISE. IN EACH INSTANCE I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE 60+ MPH. I AM ABLE TO RESTART EVERYTIME BY EITHER PULLING OVER OR PUTTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, RESTARTING THE ENGINE, AND THEN PUTTING IT BACK INTO DRIVE WHILE MOVING. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHICH HAS NEVER OCCURRED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO BOTH OF THE PRIMARY DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS NEVER BEEN ACCIDENTALLY TURNED OFF. *TR

SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED CENSORS BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SPORADICALLY STALLS AT TAKE OFF, WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN/STOP, WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS DISENGAGED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ON HIGHWAY, HIT BRAKE TO DISENGAGE CC AND SWITCH LANES, CAR STALLED, TURNED THE KEY WITHOUT PUTTING IT IN PARK OR STOPPING AND ENGINE KICKED BACK IN. CAR WOULDN'T START ON ONE OCCASION AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED ALTERNATOR BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH BUT PROBLEM PERSISTS WITH CAR NOT STARTING. STUCK AT HIGHWAY REST STOP FOR 2 HOURS UNTIL CAR RE-STARTED. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THEN SAID THAT THEY WEREN'T GETTING THAT CODE THE NEXT TIME WE HAD PROBLEMS. HAVE REPLACED VARIOUS PARTS BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS THEY ASKED ME TO BRING IT IN FOR DIAGNOSING, BUT HESITANT BECAUSE OF ALL THE SAME KIND OF STORIES THAT I HAVE READ ON THIS ISSUE. GOING TO HAVE TO GIVE IN THOUGH, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE NOW... HAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH SOMEONE CAN CERTAINLY HAVE A DEVASTATING ACCIDENT, NOT WILLING TO TAKE THAT CHANCE... LATELY, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DEALERS AND OTHER MECHANICS SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE POWER TRAIN MODULE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO EXIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
CAR STALLS, DIES AND SUFFERS A LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE DECELERATING. THIS HAS OCCURRED 7 TIMES IN TOTAL NOW. COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, POWER BRAKES, AND STEERING. UNACCEPTABLE DANGER TO MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, SPARK PLUGS AND PERFORMED A FUEL SYSTEM FLUSH. NONE OF THE REPAIRS REMEDIED THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO GENERATE ANY FAILURE CODES FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL FLASH A WARNING SAYING SERVICE PARK ASSIST SYSTEM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE GEAR DISPLAY ON THE DASH PRND WILL ALL 4 GET CIRCLED AND FLASH AND THEN AS YOU ARE ACCELERATING YOU CAN FEEL THE VEHICLE LOSE SPEED. YOU CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD. ONCE YOU STOP AND SHIFT TO PARK THEN BACK TO DRIVE IT WILL RESET AND THEN ALLOW YOU TO ACCELERATE. I WAS GOING 65 ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED LAST AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. FOR ABOUT THE PAST 30,000-40,000 K MILES WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH IT SHIFTING PROPERLY AND EVERY TIME WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY CAN NEVER RE CREATE THE ISSUE. NOW WE ARE RECEIVING THIS WARNING AND IT ACTUALLY STOPS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND...

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER MADE UPDATES TO THE COMPUTER AND DISCOVERED A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS, WHICH WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE VEHICLE STALLING AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,500.
THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE BEING DRIVEN THE FIRST TIME THE SAME MONTH IT WAS PURCHASED. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A CODE AND SENT IT BACK TO ME. IT HAS STALLED NUMEROUS OTHER TIMES IN THE 5 MONTHS MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT INCLUDING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, MOUNTAIN ROADS AND IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. JUST SUDDENLY STOPS RUNNING. HAVE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. TURN KEY TO OFF POSITION AND RESTART. NO PROBLEMS RE-STARTING. HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWO MORE TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULT (NO CODE; NO WORK; SENT HOME). CALLED CHRYSLER WHO ALSO SAID THEY COULDN'T HELP. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE HERSELF AND STATED THAT THE ESM SENSOR WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED SUCH AS SLOWING TO STOP OR TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP THE TRUCK STALLS AND HAS TO BE PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED.
