MY COMMANDER IS STALLING WHILE DRIVING. AND AT TIMES JUST WILL NOT START. SEVERAL INCIDENTS DATING BACK TO YEARS. . I BOUGHT THIS COMMANDER NEW, NO MILES. ONE INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING GOING OVER 50 MPH AND ALL DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND IT JUST STALLED. ANOTHER TIME STALLED SITTING AT RED LIGHT AND ALL DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND IT STALLED. AND OVER 10 TIMES IT JUST WON'T START. RIGHT NOW IT IS BROKE DOWN, JUST WON'T START. OVER THE YEARS I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE STARTER IT WAS REPLACE 8/3/2010 (I HAD TO PAY FOR STARTER, LABOR AND TOWING) THEN NEXT TIME I REPLACED THE BATTERY. AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEMS. PROBLEMS BEGAN 1 DAY AFTER COMMANDER WENT IN TO DEALER FOR THE REGULAR 3,000MILE OIL CHANGE, THAT CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AFTER THAT OIL CHANGE, AS 'GOOD TO GO'; W/IN 24 HOURS OF THAT OIL CHANGE, THE COMMANDER WOULD NOT START AND REQUIRED A NEW STARTER (30K MILES). AFTER THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, THE COMMANDER WAS STALLING IF - IN THE MIDDLE OF A SLIGHT INCLINE IT HAD TO BRAKE AND THEN RESUME - AT THE RESUME IT WOULD STALL. ALSO, AFTER STARTER REPLACED DASHBOARD LIGHTS BLINKING; TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES LEAKING, POWER STEERING LINE FROM PUMP TO COOLER LEAKING, AND FRONT AND BACK BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED (42K MILES) 60K MILES, THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNS ON BY ITSELF AND THE REAR PARK ASSIST TURNS OFF BY ITSELF; THE WATER LEAK INTO FRONT PASSENGER WELL. I FILED A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT REGARDING MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 5.7 L HEMI REGARDING THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE HESITATION YOU GET WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PCM SENSOR NEEDED REPLACED AND IT HAS BEEN BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. WE HAVE HAD THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED TWICE, THE GAS FILTER REPLACED, TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGED, MY JEEP HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON SOME VISITS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF MY JEEP WERE TO STALL FROM HESITATION THIS COULD CAUSE A DEADLY ACCIDENT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO GO FROM HERE BUT I WILL KEEP ON GOING UNTIL I GET SOMEONE TO LISTEN AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM OR TAKE THESE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. *KB
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ABOUT TO GO OVER A BRIDGE WHEN THE DASHBOARD LIGHT STARTING BLINKING ON AND OFF. THE CAR THEN STALLED AND I LOST ALL FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO PULL OVER WITH OUT INCIDENT. THE CAR THEN DID START RIGHT BACK UP. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND COMPONENTS TO BLINK 2 OTHER TIMES SINCE (TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING IS THE MOST RECENT TIME). LUCKILY THE CAR DID NOT STALL THESE OTHER TIMES. HOWEVER, WHEN IT BEGINS TO HAPPEN I CANNOT START FREAKING OUT THAT MY CAR IS GOING TO ALL OF A SUDDEN SHUT DOWN. *TR
I HAVE A 06 JEEP COMMANDER THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE RPMS GO UP OVER 3 AND 4 AND THE GEARS SHIFTS FROM HIGH TO LOW. AND ALSO MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. *TT
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN ALL THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS CAME ON. I THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED! WHEN I LOOKED DOWN, THE OB DATA SCREEN SAID AWD SYSTEM FAILED. I PUT IT IN PARK TURNED OFF THE KEY AND TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT WOULD NOT. THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED UP AND NOTICED A LOT OF WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR! WITHIN A SECOND IT TURNED TO BLACK SMOKE! I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I HURRIED UP AND GOT MY SON AND I OUT OF THE JEEP AND BACKED AWAY, AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THERE WAS A POP AND THE JEEP ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. WE CALLED 911. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN FLASHING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES FOR A PERIOD OF 5 MINUTES. THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT STAYED ON AFTERWARDS: TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM AND BSP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH BECAUSE I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE MALFUNCTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER, HEATER AND INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ACTIVATE SPORADICALLY WHEN ENGAGED. THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AND THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEAT WOULD SHUT OFF AND ON. WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AS WELL AND THE ONLY WARNING WAS THAT THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT 55MPH WITH MY NEW BORN CHILD, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THE ELECTIRC SHUT OFF AND THE POWER STERRING QUIT. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST SMASHED INTO ME. THE JEEP CAME TO A STOP AND THEN I TURNED THE KEY AND IT TURNED BACK ON. PLEASE HELP ME! *TR

HAD DEALER REPLACE TRANSMISSION AND NOW AT 102,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WILL LOOSE DRIVE WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION. YOU THEN HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN BACK IN DRIVE TO REGAIN DRIVE. TRANSMISSION ALSO "SURGES" UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE CONDITIONS AT LOW SPEEDS(10-20MPH). SINCE THE FIRST FEW MONTHS THAT I OWNED THIS 2006 JEEP COMMANDER IT HAS RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN WHILE I AM DRIVING. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN IN THE SUMMER. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN IN AND HAD PCM REPROGRAMMING, PARTS REPLACED, AND OTHER WORK. AT THE TIME WE PURCHASED IT MY HUSBAND WAS THE GM AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECH'S TRIED EVERYTHING. SINCE THEN THE DEALERSHIP HAS SWITCHED TO ANOTHER AUTOMOTIVE GROUP. I HAVE CONTACTED SEVERAL JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND MANY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAVE NO SOLUTIONS OTHER THAN WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. I DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS WITH MY TWO CHILDREN OFTEN AND SEVERAL TIMES IT HAS CUT OFF WHEN SPEED LIMITS WHERE 65+ MPH. I DO NOT WANT TO PASS THIS PROBLEM ALONG TO ANOTHER OWNER. AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH DASHBOARD LIGHTS GOING ALL ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING TWO YEARS AGO, NOW MY TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AND THE COMPUTER HAS GONE OUT OF THE CAR. I WAS GETTING OFF ON AN EXIT WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE. I HAD MY FOOT SLIGHTLY ON THE BREAK TO DECELERATE. THE CAR JERKED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON. THE ROADS WERE DRY. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS TO TURN ON. THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. IT FELT AS IF SOMEONE PUT THEIR FOOT ON THE BREAKS QUICKLY. AFTER I ARRIVED AT MY LOCATION I TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. I CONTACTED MY SERVICE CENTER. THEY HAD ME BRING IN THE CAR. THEY RE-FLASHED TO CORRECT THE CODES. *TT

THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALSO FAILED INCLUDING THE SPEEDOMETER AND RADIO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,048.
A/C BLOWER ONLY WORKS ON HIGH, NOT ANY OTHER SETTING. I'VE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ON AVERAGE OF 3X PER YEAR (@ $32 FROM DEALER). THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD BY AUTO MECHANICS AND THE CHRYSLER DEALER SERVICE DEPT. IS WRONG WITH THE A/C SYSTEM....AND THAT "IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM." WHEN THE RESISTOR IS REPLACED, THE A/C WILL WORK PROPERLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN REPEAT THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS SOMETHING CAUSING THIS PART TO SHORT/MALFUNCTION. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TOPIC (ONLINE/INTERNET), I'VE FOUND MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, IT IS THE GUAGE OF WIRING CHRYSLER HAS USED TO INSTALL THE SYSTEM. THE WIRING CAN NOT HANDLE THE AMPS RUNNING THROUGH IT, AND THE CONNECTION/WIRING ACTUALLY MELTS. THIS IS THE CASE WITH MY VEHICLE, THE CONNECTION AT THE BLOWER RESISTOR IS MELTED. THE...

THE INTERIOR LIGHTING AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING BEGAN TO FLICKER ERRATICALLY, AND A WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED A MESSAGE INDICATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE BATTERY IN FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

IN ADDITION TO THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT A GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE BRAKES WHENEVER THEY WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED PURCHASED BRAND NEW DEC 2006 FROM MCCUNE CHRYSLER AND JEEP, NATIONAL CITY CALIFORNIA. PURCHASED EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT MAX 6/70, COVERING MY CAR TO 70,000. CAR CURRENTLY HAS 63,000 MILES (EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT). NEVER HAD AN PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE AT ALL. TOOK CAR TO PURCHASING LOCATION FOR REPAIRS JAN 2011. WHILE THERE, SERVICE ADVISOR SAID I NEEDED A NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND IT WAS COVERED UNDER SERVICE CONTRACT. SINCE THEN, MY CAR HAS CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC CAUSING ME TO ALMOST LOOSE MY LIFE BY BEING HIT BY TRAFFIC, ALL LIGHTS ON MY DASH PANEL LIGHTS UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE, CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS PEDAL PUSHED,,, AND I AM TOLD THAT MY CAR HAS A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. OUR 2006 JEEP COMMANDER INTERMITTENTLY STALLS WHILE DRIVING. USUALLY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS GO CRAZY, ALL THE LIGHTS FLASHING ON AND OFF, AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLS. THIS HAPPENS AT ANYTIME, AND HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY! THIS ISSUE LEAVES NO FAULTS ON THE COMPUTER WHEN CHECKED BY A DEALER. DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION LOCK, BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE NO MORE SUGGESTIONS. THE INTERNET IS FILLED WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THIS AND OTHER JEEP VEHICLES THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SERIOUS ISSUE. I PURCHASED THE 2006 COMMANDER IN JUNE 2010. THE FIRST 6 WEEKS I HAD THE VEHICLE I LOVED IT. THE FIRST INCIDENT I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE WAS THE SERVICE PARK ASSIST WARNING CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR TWO DAYS, THEN WENT OFF ON ITS OWN PRIOR TO GETTING AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE NEXT INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IDLING IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT. EVERY INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STALL BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY STALL OUT. MARCH OF 2009 WE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH OUR 2006 JEEP COMMANDER WITH THE ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. WE TOOK IT INTO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED US THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE SHIFTER MODULE AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. WELL $2500 LATER AND MISSING PARTS WE REQUESTED TO KEEP OUR VEHICLE WAS BACK IN OUR POSSESSION WITH THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING.
