TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES FAILED INTERMITTENTLY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. ORLANDO DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 4101 WEST COLONIAL DR. ORLANDO, FL 32808 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TAKATA RECALL AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE FOUR LANE MY CAR STARTED TO HAVE WHITE RUBBER SMELLING SMOKE FILL THE CAR AND ALL MY DASH LIGHTS WENT CRAZY, MY RADIO KICKED OFF AND MY SPEAKERS AND MY TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING. I STARTED TO PANIC AND STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR SO I FIRST REMOVED MY CHILDREN THEN TRIED TO FIND THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF SMOKE N IT LIKE AS IF IT WAS BURNING DOWN. MY WIRING IN THE CARS PASSENGER SIDE REAR FLOOR BOARD HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE ! THE FIRE BURNT THROUGH MY FLOOR AND MY FLOOR MATS. I ALMOST CHOKED TO DEATH ON THE SMOKE AND HAD TO TAKE THE BATTERY OUT OF THE CAR TO KILL THE POWER AND DUMP WATER ON THE FLOOR.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE CENTRAL FLORIDA GREENEWAY, MY SUNROOF AND BRACKET BLEW FROM THE CAR. ESTIMATED SPEED - 65 MPH. THE ELECTRIC SUNROOF WAS IN THE CLOSED POSITION. SUDDENLY, THE GLASS SUNROOF BLEW FROM THE CAR AND HALF THE BRACKET CAME UNASSEMBLED.
THE BACK PASSENGER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE. I FEEL IS IT UNREASONABLE TO HAVE A WORKING HANDLE TO EXIT A VEHICLE. NOW SINCE MY SON IS OLDER, I AM CONCERNED WITH HIS ABILITY TO EXIT OUT SAFELY IN AN EMERGENCY. THE POOR DESIGN CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OWNERS AND THEIR PASSENGERS.
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CASING CRACKED AND COMPLETELY CRUMBLED. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE BECAUSE OF THIS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT IT IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM AND NOT AN ISSUE CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS HAZARD IF THE DRIVER NEEDS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE QUICKLY AND CANNOT ACCESS ANOTHER DOOR OR ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE.
THE DOOR HANDLES OF MY JEEP COMMANDER 2006 HAVE SNAPPED. THR VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. FIRST IT WAS THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR, THEN BEFORE I COULD SCHEDULE TO GET THAT ONE FIXED, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE SNAPPED. I ACCEPTED THAT IT MAY BE COINCIDENCE, UNTIL ONE MONTH LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY DIVERS SIDE DOOR! IT CAN'T BE COINCIDENCE AND NOW I HAVE DIFFICULTY GETTING OUT OF MY VEHICLE. IT DEFINITELY POSES A SAFETY ISSUE.
EVERY SINGLE DOOR HANDLE IN THE JEEP BROKE UNDER NORMAL USE SOMEWHAT ABLE TO OPEN FROM INSIDE, BUT A VERY BIG SAFTY HAZARDS WHEN MY KIDS OR PASSENGERS CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. KINDA SCARY WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT. SLIGHTLY AFTER REVIEVING MY USED JEEP ONE DOOR HANDLE AFTER THE OTHER BREAKS UPON BUMPING INTO HANDLE.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND CAR SHUT DOWN AS TURNING RIGHT AT STREET LIGHT. HAD TO RESTART CAR. DRIVER SIDE DOOR INTERIOR HANDLE IS BROKEN. CANNOT OPEN DOOR. DASH LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, RADIO VOLUME GOES UP AS YOU ARE TURNING THE CONTROLS DOWN. FRAME IS RUSTED...TOLD WOULD BE RUSTED THROUGH IN ANOTHER YEAR. CAR HAS 125,000 MILES ON IT. I'M THE ONLY OWNER. NORMAL DRIVING, NO OFF ROAD TRAVEL.
ALL DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN AND HAVE BECOME IN OPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO WHEN STARTING THE JEEP IT WILL RUN FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN SHUT OFF. AFTER STARTING YOU CAN SHIFT TO DRIVE AND IT PUTS YOU IN DRIVE 3 THEM IT WILL QUIT. WHEN U START AND IT SHIFT INTO DRIVE THE JEEP WILL REMAIN RUNNING.
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES CRACK AND BREAK: THIS IS SAFETY HAZARD TRAP FOR MANY CONSUMER BECAUSE YOU CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE IF IN AN ACCIDENT OR IN AN EMERGENCY. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS COMPLAINT SINCE THIS VEHICLE CAME OUT ON THE MARKET SEVERAL HUNDRED AND SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. ONLY HAVING THE CONSUMER FIX IT THEIR SELF WHICH IS VERY COSTLY TO FIX. MY DEALER SHOP QUOTED ME 500.00 PER DOOR AND I HAVE 2 THAT ARE BADLY CRACKED AND BROKEN : PLEASE CONSIDER A RECALL ON THE DOOR HANDLES AND THINK OF THE SAFELY OF ADULTS AND CHILDREN . THIS HAPPENS BY JUST OPENING A DOOR DUE TO POOR PRODUCT SELECT ON THE MANUFACTURER.

CHECKING THE WEB FOR CONSUMER'S THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE JEEP COMMANDER DOOR HANDLES BREAKING AND FINDING OUT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT A COUPLE THOUSAND THAT HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME BREAKAGE OF THE DOOR HANDLE OPERATING MECHANISM. IF YOU TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALER FOR REPAIR, THEY WANT $600.00 - $800.00 PER DOOR TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY IN EXITING THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE PAINT IS "SPIDERING" AND CRACKING ON THE HOOD. YOU WOULDN'T THINK THIS COULD HAPPEN SINCE IT SAT IN A GARAGE FOR ALMOST A YEAR WHILE I WAS DEPLOYED, I WAX IT RELIGIOUSLY AND IT IS USED VERY LITTLE. WHEN THE FIRST HANDLE CAVED IN I THOUGHT MY DAUGHTER PUSHED TO HARD TO OPEN THE DOOR AND THAT IT COULD BE REPAIRED BY SIMPLY REPLACING THE HANDLE. AS THE MONTHS AND YEARS HAVE GONE ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES HAVE CAVED IN. AND I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE PANEL MUST BE REPLACED FOR EACH TO REPAIR. I AM APPALLED AND SHOCKED THAT JEEP HAS NOT RECALLED THESE DOORS. THIS IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS SO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AS WELL. I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULDN'T CHARGE THEIR CUSTOMERS TO REPAIR ANYTHING. 2. DOOR HANDLES. THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER TO THE HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND THE INTERIOR SOME LIGHTS WILL TURN THEMSELVES ON WITHOUT CAUSE OR WARNING. IN THE MOST RECENT EVENT, VEHICULAR DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY NEARLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING IN THE DARK, ALMOST STRIKING A UTILITY POLE. ALSO, THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW CONTROL WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN TRYING TO ROLL UP THE WINDOW ITSELF. IT WILL STOP HALFWAY AND BRING ITSELF BACK DOWN. IT USUALLY TAKES 3-4 TIMES TO ROLL THE WINDOW UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES, SO MANY THAT I CAN'T KEEP TRACK. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CANNOT PINPOINT THE ISSUE AND THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES FROM HOME, ON A DAY WITH THE TEMPERATURE WELL BELOW ZERO DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, WE ROLLED OUR FRONT WINDOWS DOWN TO TALK TO OUR NEIGHBORS, WHO WERE SHOPPING AT THE SAME MALL AS US. AFTER VISITING WITH THEM, OUR WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL BACK UP. OUR FAMILY HAD TO DRIVE IN FREEZING WEATHER BACK HOME, ON A SUNDAY, WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN. ON THE WAY, BY RAPIDLY DEPRESSING THE WINDOWS LOCK BUTTON, WHILE MY WIFE REPEATEDLY PULLED UP ON THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW SWITCH, WE GOT HER WINDOW TO ROLL UP. WE NEVER COULD GET THE DRIVERS FRONT WINDOW TO ROLL UP. I REPLACED THE MASTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVERS DOOR PANEL, BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I PROBABLY HAVE MULTIPLE BROKEN WIRES IN THE WIRE BUNDLE IN THE DOOR HINGE AREA. JEEP HAS NOT, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM...
THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CASING CRACKED CAUSING THE DOOR BEING UNABLE TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE SAME ISSUE CAME ABOUT WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR; HOWEVER I AM ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR IF I ANGLE IT CORRECTLY AND WITH SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AS, IN MY OPINION, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF AN EMERGENCY WERE TO HAPPEN, MY CHILDREN OR MYSELF WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BEFORE ENTERING THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE WINDOWS WERE FOGGY AS IF MOISTURE HAD BEEN INSIDE. IN ADDITION, THE CARPET WAS FOUND TO BE WET AND PUDDLES OF WATER WERE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRAINS NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO A DEALER WHERE THE DRAINS WERE CLEANED AGAIN. THE FAILURE RECURRED OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,821.
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HOUSINGS ON ALL 4 DOORS ARE BROKEN. AS A RESULT, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR HANDLES FROM THE INSIDE. IN ORDER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, ONE MUST USE THE EXTERIOR HANDLES. JEEP INDICATED REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL IS REQUIRED TO FIX AT A COST OF $800 PER PANEL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PREVENTING QUICK EGRESS FROM THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT AND IS A COMMON, KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE HOUSING BROKE, THE SHARP PLASTIC CUT MY HAND, CAUSING IT TO BLEED. SUBSEQUENTLY, I HAVE CUT MY HAND AGAIN MORE THAN ONCE ON THE SHARP, BROKEN PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE HOUSING. *TR

ALL OF THE DOOR HANDLES ON THE VEHICLE ARE COMING LOOSE FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THEY ARE SO LOOSE THAT THEY COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE IF ANYONE NEEDED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. APPARENTLY THERE IS/WAS A DEFECT IN EITHER THE DESIGN OR PRODUCTION OF THE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY IN THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDERS. THE PLASTIC HOUSING WHICH CONTAINS THE DOOR OPENING MECHANISM BECOMES TOO BRITTLE AND CRACKS RENDERING THE OPENING MECHANISM INOPERABLE. ON MY COMMANDER ALL BUT ONE DOOR IS AFFECTED. AT THE MOMENT, ONLY TWO OUT OF THE FOUR DOORS WORK, THE FRONT-SIDE PASSENGER AND THE DRIVER-SIDE REAR. IF THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THERE WAS A NEED TO EXIT QUICKLY (FIRE OR WATER), THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY WOULD BE IN EXTREME JEOPARDY. MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER ALONG WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING CRACKING OF THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL WHICH HOUSES THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. THIS RESULTS IN THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BREAKING OFF, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND JEEP IS TOTALLY NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING. THEIR SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL AT A COST OF AROUND $750 PER DOOR. THE PLASTIC USED AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE IS VERY THIN AND OBVIOUSLY A POOR DESIGN. JEEP COMMANDERS SHARE A FAULTY INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. THE SHAPE OF THE HANDLE MAY BE DIFFERENT IN EACH MODEL, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE INCORRECT RESIN MIX WHICH RESULTS IN A BRITTLE AND CRUMBLING MATERIAL CAUSING FAILURE JUST THE SAME. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER?S DEFECT, HOWEVER IT?S A FAULT THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER JEEP?S WARRANTY. THERE?S NO RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN. UNTIL RECENTLY, THE ONLY FIX WAS REPLACING THE ENTIRE DOOR PANELS. CHRYSLER DESIGNED THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ON THE JEEP COMMANDER IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL HAD TO BE REPLACED RATHER THAN JUST THE DOOR HANDLE. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS PLASTIC WELDED AT CERTAIN POINTS FROM THE BACKSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL. *TR
