I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT JUMPED INTO 3RD GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT EXIT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND PUT IT IN DRIVE AND IT STILL GOES TO 3RD GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT FIRESTONE AND I'M WAITING TO GET A CALL ABOUT MY TRUCK. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AND IF SO, HOW WAS IT RESOLVED? *TR
MY CAR HAS A RECALL, MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER P41. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND THE MANUFACTURER STATES RECALL INCOMPLETE, REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. YET THEY SAY THIS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKING ASSIST INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND DISABLING ONE OR MORE OF THE VEHICLES SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDING THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS. I HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN OFFICIALLY NOTIFIED. I HAD ANOTHER ISSUE AND CAME ACROSS THIS. I WENT TO MY DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX IT YET, AND THEY CAN NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH AND COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE THE CAR SHUT OFF AND CARS WERE HONKING AND I HAD TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SAT THERE AND WAITED TO MAKE SURE THE CAR WAS NOT OVERHEATING OR ANYTHING ELSE BUT NO LIGHTS HAD COME ON OR ANY TYPE OF WARNING. I THEN STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND IT RAN FINE BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET FIXED AND THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE AIR FILTER BOX. I FIXED THIS AND DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND THEN THE OTHER DAY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 50 MPH THE CAR SHUTOFF. ITS VERY SCARY FOR A CAR TO SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER AND I'M SO AFRAID...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE PCV VALVE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND THE MAT SENSOR WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. *TR UPDATED 7/22/13 *CN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. IT RE-STARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION, WHEN MY COMMANDER STALLED. ITS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO MONTHS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF COMMANDER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.

THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER DOES NOT TURN ON ANY WARNING LIGHTS, IT DOES ALLOW FOR QUICK START UP. SOME DASH LIGHTS DON'T WORK AT ALL FOR MONTHS THEN LIKE MAGIC WORK FINE FOR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS WHEN ACCELERATING ALL THE TIME AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. IF I AM CROSSING OR TURINING I NEED TO MAKE SURE I HAVE LIKE 2 MILES BETWEEN ME AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN CASE IT DECIDES TO NOT WORK THAT TIME AND I GET STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION. THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS. LUCKILY THE COMPUTER WENT OUT THAT CONTROLS THE CRUISE SO I CAN'T USE IT. THE CRUISE USED TO JUST SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN. I WILL BE DRIVING ALONG...
2006 JEEP COMMANDER DOES NOT START. WE HAVE TO TRY ABOUT 30 TIMES SOMETIMES TO GET IT TO START. IT JUST MAKES A CLICKING NOISE. ALSO THE JEEP COMMANDER WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING. (VERY DANGEROUS) ESPECIALLY WITH TWO KIDS. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS IT GETS STUCK IN LOW GEAR OR 4X4 (NOT SURE WHICH). THE INTERIOR ELECTRICAL LIGHTING SYSTEMS OFTEN GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING IN BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES. THIS INCLUDES ALL SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, AND DASH LIGHTS FOR ALL CONTROLS. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN FEBRUARY 2007. AFTER FIVE YEARS, THE LED LIGHTS ILLUMINATING THE SWITCHES FOR THE FAN SPEED, TEMPERATURE CONTROL, AND HEATED SEATS. I REPORTED THIS UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOW I AM TOLD I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND THE ELECTRICAL FAULT. THE LED SWITCH BULBS CANNOT SIMPLY BE REPLACED AS THE ENTIRE UNIT FOR EACH CONTROL MUST BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A PINGING SOUND AND THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED IT WRONG 3 TIMES. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY WHEN FIRST REPORTED. MANY MONTHS LATER AFTER WARRANTY LAPSED THE DEALERSHIP'S CORRECTIVE FIX WAS REPLACING ONE SIDE OF THE ENGINE'S HYDRAULIC LIFTERS. THIS MADE THE PROBLEM A BIT BETTER BUT DID...
THE STALLING PROBLEMS WITH MY JEEP STARTED THE FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT IT. IT HAD 17,000 MILES. IT WOULD IDLE AND THEN STALL AT STOP LIGHTS OR WHEN PARKED OR JUST SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY EACH TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. OTHER PROBLEMS INCLUDE NOT STARTING SPORADICALLY. BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE, ALTERNATOR REPLACED. IN THE SHOP 5 DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. OTHER MODELS FROM THE SAME YEAR WERE RECALLED FOR SIMILAR ISSUES BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ALSO, SEAT BELT IN 2ND ROW DOES NOT LATCH. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE THERE ARE 700+ COMPLAINTS ON HERE FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG!! *TR
I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LTD. WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. DATE OF MANUFACTURER WAS 06/06. IN THE PAST YEAR MY COMMANDER HAS BEGAN STALLING OUT SPORADICALLY WHILE STOPPED COMPLETELY. IT OCCURS AT ANY TIME, NIGHT OR DAY, USUALLY ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD OR COOL. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP SIGN, STOP LIGHT, OR ANY OTHER COMPLETE STOP IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE RPM'S DROP AND THE VEHICLE STALLS OUT. PROBLEMS BEGAN 1 DAY AFTER COMMANDER WENT IN TO DEALER FOR THE REGULAR 3,000MILE OIL CHANGE, THAT CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AFTER THAT OIL CHANGE, AS 'GOOD TO GO'; W/IN 24 HOURS OF THAT OIL CHANGE, THE COMMANDER WOULD NOT START AND REQUIRED A NEW STARTER (30K MILES). AFTER THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, THE COMMANDER WAS STALLING IF - IN THE MIDDLE OF A SLIGHT INCLINE IT HAD TO BRAKE AND THEN RESUME - AT THE RESUME IT WOULD STALL. ALSO, AFTER STARTER REPLACED DASHBOARD LIGHTS BLINKING; TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES LEAKING, POWER STEERING LINE FROM PUMP TO COOLER LEAKING, AND FRONT AND BACK BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED (42K MILES) 60K MILES, THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNS ON BY ITSELF AND THE REAR PARK ASSIST TURNS OFF BY ITSELF; THE WATER LEAK INTO FRONT PASSENGER WELL. I FILED A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT REGARDING MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 5.7 L HEMI REGARDING THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE HESITATION YOU GET WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PCM SENSOR NEEDED REPLACED AND IT HAS BEEN BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. WE HAVE HAD THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED TWICE, THE GAS FILTER REPLACED, TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGED, MY JEEP HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON SOME VISITS. SINCE THEN THE DEALERSHIP HAS SWITCHED TO ANOTHER AUTOMOTIVE GROUP. I HAVE CONTACTED SEVERAL JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND MANY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAVE NO SOLUTIONS OTHER THAN WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE.
