TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED A MESSAGE TO PLACE GEAR SHIFTER IN PROPER GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHWEST CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (19616 NORTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77065) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE PICKED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 23,000. *LN*JB
'SERVICE SHIFTER' IS DISPLAYED, MEANING I CANNOT USE ANY OF THE IN VEHICLE CONTROLS OR USE THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION FEATURE OR SEE WHAT GEAR I AM IN. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC BUT HAS THE MANUAL OPTION. I'VE SEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE EFFECTED BY THIS, NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ASAP OR GROUNDS FOR A CLASS ACTION IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN. *TR
THIS JEEP HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. WHEN WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT I DIDN'T THINK THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO THE LACK OF ACCELERATION AND POOR TRANSMISSION OPERATION. AS THE LAST 2 YEARS HAVE GONE SINCE THE ACCIDENT, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS A CLEAR RESULT TO THE POWERTRAIN FAILING. WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE OR COUGH BEFORE IT MOVES. ONCE IT DOES THE RPMS SHOOT TO HIGH. WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC THE CAR SHAKES AS IT STAYS IN GEAR TO LONG, OR DOESN'T SHIFT TO THE PROPER GEAR AT THE PROPER TIME MAKING THE RIDE VERY WHIP LASH LIKE. ASIDE FROM THAT THE VEHICLE BURNS OIL SO FAST I CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 2000 MILES. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 39K MILES AND I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS CAR. WHILE DRIVING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I GOT A "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" MESSAGE. I WENT AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED AT AUTOZONE. IT CAME BACK WITH ERROR CODE P0887- TCM POWER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH. THE LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF BUT I AM NOTICING A DECREASE IN THE ACCELERATION POWER AND AT TIMES THE VEHICLE ACTS AS IF IT IS IN NEUTRAL, I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN DRIVE AND IT SLOWLY STARTED DRIVING. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC SUDDENLY LOST POWER. LIGHT ON DASHBOARD INDICATED SOMETHING WITH TRANSMISSION. DEALER INSPECTED AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG MECHANICALLY. IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE NOT BEEN REAR ENDED. IF NOTHING WAS WRONG MECHANICALLY, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE LOST POWER. A NOTIFICATION WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SUITABLE. CARCOMPLAINTS WEBSITE HAS 50 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2016 CHEROKEE DYING OR LOSING POWER FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN THE COMPUTER. EVERYONE OF THEM STATES HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS WHILE IN TRAFFIC.
PURCHASED MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE IN FEBRUARY OF 2017 BRAND NEW WITH 3 MILES. STARTED HAVING SERVICE SHIFTER CODES AT APPROXIMATELY 30K. WOULD BE REPAIRED & AFTER ABOUT 8 WKS IT WOULD THROW THE SAME CODE. REPEATED THE SAME CYCLE 2 ADTL TIMES. TOOK A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES TILL THE ENTIRE SHIFTER, MODULE & WIRING WERE REPLACED. AT 40K MILES MY JEEP DIED ON ME GOING DOWN A HILL. HAD TO COAST DOWN HILL & FIND A HALFWAY SAFE AREA OFF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD NO ABILITY TO START THE VEHICLE. THE ELECTRONICS WOULD COME ON WHEN I TURNED THE KEY BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER WOULD BE SOLID & THE SERVICE SHIFTER ALERT CAME ON. IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE ADVISER WALKED ME THRU HOW TO RESET THE CAR. WAIT FOR 5 MINUTES. TURN THE KEY ON & LET IT CYCLE. TURN THE KEY OFF. REPEAT THE PROCESS 3 X'S TILL IT STARTS. TOOK...

MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE-LATITUDE HAS 89000+ MILES ON IT. A FEW MONTHS AGO I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND BOUGHT FLUID FOR IT. COULDN'T FIND AN ACCESS POINT, SO I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP. GUY TOLD ME IT WAS A "CLOSED TRANSMISSION". TOOK IT IN THE BACK AND CLAIMED TO DO AN UPDATE. AFTER THAT, AN ERROR MSG BEGAN POPPING UP SAYING "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFT PANEL WERE RED. AFTER THIS BEGAN HAPPENING MORE I CALLED THE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE WHERE THEY HINTED IT MAY BE A RECALL. NOW DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $375 TO FIX IT. I'M READING FROM OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE THAT JEEP HAS NO FIX, BUT KEEPS CHARGING PEOPLE. ONE GUY SAID HIS ACTUALLY STOPPED ON HIM ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AN ERROR CODE CAME ON THE SCREEN THAT STATED 'SERVICE SHIFTER' AND AT THE SAME TIME ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER WERE LIT UP ALL RED. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF AND THEN TURNED ON A FEW MINUTES LATER WITH THE SAME CODE ON THE SCREEN AND LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE SHIFTER.

APPLYING THROTTLE INCREASES ENGINE RPM BUT AS NO EFFECT ON FORWARD PROPULSION. THE 'D' NORMALLY ILLUMINATED ON SHIFTER CHANGES FROM SOLID TO FLASHING AND A MESSAGE MAY APPEAR IN THE DASH CONSOLE. ONE RECENT MESSAGE READ SOMETHING LIKE ' REDUCE SPEED TO 0 AND SHIFT INTO PARK'. THESE SPONTANEOUS EVENTS OCCUR UNDER A WIDE VARIETY OF DIVING CONDITIONS; FORM ROLLING SLOWLY THROUGH A PARKING LOT OR CITY STREET DRIVING, TO FULL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE CAN GO DAYS OR WEEKS BETWEEN EVENTS OR PRESENT SEVERAL IN THE SAME DAY. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION I'VE HAD TO SUDDENLY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC FROM HIGHWAY DRIVING LANES TO A SHOULDER WHERE I COULD STOP AND CYCLE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER FROM D...
AT ABOUT 20K MILES, A WARNING ON THE DISPLAY POPPED UP THAT SAYS, "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND ALL OF THE GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS ALL LIT UP. THIS HAPPENED TWO TIMES, ONCE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ONCE WHILE IT WAS PARKED. AFTER THOSE TWO TIMES, IT STOPPED AND DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL NOW. THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED AT 45K MILES AND IS HAPPENING A LOT. WHEN IT HAPPENS WHILE I'M MOVING, THE ENGINE REVS UP REALLY HIGH. WHEN I'M PARKED AND IT HAPPENS, I HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON BEFORE I CAN SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT PROVIDED A SOLUTION.

IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN RANDOMLY. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH JEEP AND SHOULD BE A RECALL.

AT ANY GIVEN TIME, WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND USUALLY WHEN SWITCHING GEARS, THE SHIFTER MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING AN INTERRUPTION IN MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, I HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY!
WE HAVE TAKEN OUR JEEP IN COUNTLESS TIMES SINCE OBTAINING IT BRAND NEW IN 2016 FOR A SERVICE SHIFT ISSUE. THEY REPLACED OUR THERMOSTAT THE FIRST TIME THEN WIRING HARNESS TO THE TRANSMISSION/BCM THE SECOND TIME SINCE THEN THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED WITH OUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THIS ISSUE. EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS OUR JEEP HEATS UP PAST 220 DEGREES AND STARTS TO RUN ROUGH.
TRANSMISSION SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND IT WENT AWAY. HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. HAD THE SHIFTER AND WIRING HARNESS REPLACED ONCE BEFORE. THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND TIME THE SHIFTER AND HARNESS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. FIRST TIME HAPPENED AT 17,330 MILES. SECOND TIME AT 21,000 MILES.
APRIL 2019 SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE KEPT GOING ON AND OFF TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS CHARGED TO REPLACE SHIFTER BEZEL KIT AND JUMPER WIRING. THEN IN JANUARY 2020 THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE CAME ON AND OFF AGAIN AND WAS NOW CHARGED TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE ELECTRONIC SHIFTER.. MESSAGE ALWAYS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND WENT OFF WHEN TURNED ENGINE OFF. I SE AS ARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.
"SERVICE SHIFTER" WARNING COMES ON WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, THEN AGAIN ON STREET. THE "PRND" LIGHTS ALL LIGHT UP AS WELL. VEHICLE RETURNS TO NORMAL AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT, AND IF LIGHT/WARNING IS NOT ON THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE.
BACK ON JULY 2019 MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE WAS BROUGHT TO ALLEN MELLO SERVICE DEPARTMENT DUE NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND IT WAS SHAKING. AFTER THEY DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE (THEY REPLACED OIL FILTER HOUSING, DRAINED & REFILLED OIL AND ADJUSTED COOLANT LEVER, "ROCKER ARM/LIFTER NOISE PRESENT AT IDLE. REPLACE RIGHT BANK AND LEFT BANK INTAKE & EXHAUSE CAMSHAFTS, LIFTGERS, AND ROCKER ARMS) I SPENT $3,301.05 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER MY WARRANTY OR CHRYSTER SHOULD HAVE PAID 1/2 OF THE BILLED. SHOULD SOMETHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALLED OR WAS THIS VEHICLE MISSED TO BE ON RECALL SAFETY LIST. THIS WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE LIKELY IT WAS FIXED. BUT I FEEL I SHOULD BE COMPENSAED FOR ALL OR HALF OF THE BILLED. SEE INVOICE ATTACHED.

A MESSAGE STATING "SERVICE SHIFT" APPEARED IN THE MESSAGE BOARD AND RED LIGHTS CAME ON NEXT TO ALL SHIFTS, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY ON MY DRIVE TO WORK.
VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND STALLS SHOWING SERVICE TRANSMISSION WARNING MESSAGE.
"SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE WITH SOLID RED LIGHTS ON SHIFTER PANEL(P-R-D, ETC.). MESSAGE DISAPPEARS WHEN VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS SITUATION OCCURS RANDOMLY AND HAS APPEARED APPROXIMATELY 6-8 TIMES IN LAST SIX MONTHS. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IN IN MOTION AND AT NON HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
KEEP GETTING A NOTIFICATION THAT SAYS "SERVICE SHIFTER" DASH LIGHT COMES ON ALONG WITH ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER THAT LIGHT UP RED P,R,N,D. CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT IS NOT A RECALL. I'VE DONE SOME HOMEWORK TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS IN FACT A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH JEEP AND HAS BEEN ONGOING. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT! AT FIRST THIS THE SERVICE SHIFTER WOULD APPEAR AFTER MY JEEP WAS STARTED AND GO AWAY ONCE I RESTARTED IT AND WOULD NOT APPEAR AGAIN. NOW THE "SERVICED SHIFTER " IS STAYING ON AND NOT ALLOWING ME TO SEE ANYTHING ON MY DASH. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOTIFIED ME TO GET IT TO COME OFF I MUST PAY A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE PART. 2 OTHERS WHERE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME ISSUE AT THE SAME TIME...
ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR CHIMED AND THE MESSAGE "SERVICE SHIFTER" APPEARED ON THE SCREEN ALONG WITH ALL LIGHTS NEXT TO SHIFTER TO LIGHT UP RED. THE VEHICLE HAS TO TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO RESET. NOW THE SAME THING KEEPS HAPPENING. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THE OVER THE AIR UPDATE. EXTREMELY IRRITATING AND SCARY THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THANK GOD I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE OTHER REPORTS HAVE NOTED. JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE AND FIX IT!!!

SIMILAR TO OTHER JEEP CHEROKEE YEAR MODELS, MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE SLIPS OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING, EITHER BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND GEAR OR 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS RIDE WITH MY 2 CHILDREN IN BACK AND THE CAR BASICALLY STOPS WORKING AND CARS IN BACK OF ME HAVE TO SLAM THEIR BRAKES SO TO NOT RUN INTO ME. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, WHETHER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 10 MINUTES OR JUST STARTED.
APPROX. 68,000 MILES, OWNED FOR 3 YEARS, REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION. VEHICLE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS TURNS TO NEUTRAL AFTER THE FIRST FEW RIGHT TURNS. GEAR SHIFTER AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL AFTER THE CAR'S WARNING SYSTEM READS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION. TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER MUST PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT, HOWEVER THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASHES. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN AS MANY WEEKS, ALL WHILE IN TRAFFIC. WHEN TAKEN TO JEEP DEALERSHIP MECHANIC, NO CODE SHOWS UP ON OBD. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH, MANY OWNERS OF JEEP WRANGLERS, (AS WELL AS LATITUDES) HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP. CODE SHOWS THERMOSTAT STUCK OPEN. AT ~40,000 MILES. REPAIR WAS OVER $700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 7 MONTH AGO. I TOOK A TRIP TO DALLAS TEXAS IN IT, ON THE DRIVE THERE THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND ALL WAS WELL. I HAVE CONTINUALLY HAVING THE PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COME ON, AND HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO BE SERVICE AND THEY CAN FIND A PROBLEM. JUST IN THE LAST 5 DAYS THE SERVICE SHIFTER INDICATOR HAD COME ON 12 TIME.
MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE OCCURRING WHILE DRIVING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER DEPARTURE. MUST PLACE CAR IN PARK AND TURN OFF VEHICLE. RESTART VEHICLE NO FURTHER ISSUES. DOES NOT TYPICALLY REOCCUR WITHIN A FEW DAYS. 1-6 WEEKS BETWEEN OCCURRENCE. NO ERROR MESSAGE, NO ISSUES NOTED BY MECHANIC. CONCERNING FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT.
EVENT 1 (NOV 2019) WAS PASSING A CAR, GOING 68 ON FREEWAY, GOT INTO RIGHT LANE BACKED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO SLOW A BIT AND THE CAR STAYED IN "PASSING GEAR" REVVED UP HIGH ON THE TACH. AND WOULD NOT COME BACK DOWN UNTIL I TOOK MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS. EVENT 2 (NOV 18, 2019) STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, APPLIED GAS TO GO AND IT WENT NOWHERE. THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING FAST, BUT I WAS NOT IN GEAR. I HAD TO TAKE MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITH TWO QUICK HOPS A COUPLE OF TIMES THEN WENT INTO GEAR. EVENT 3 (NOV 20, 2019) GOING SLOW IN A PARKING LOT THE CAR JUST DIED ON ME. NO REASON. THIS JEEP HAS ONLY 28,000 MILES ON IT. IT SHIFTS HARD!! ACTUALLY GOES INTO GEAR AT TIMES SO ROUGH...
