The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop sign the vehicle stalled. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to move. The driver pulled over and noticed steam emerging from vehicle. There was a loud clicking noise. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who requested the vehicle service records. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine) however, the part was not yet available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,600.
My car was towed to the dealership because the oil light came on. There was no oil in the vehicle, even though I adhered to the oil change schedule recommended by Hyundai. I then had two series of oil consumption tests completed and it was determined that my car was burning approximately 1 quart to 1.5 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. Hyundai advised me on several occasions that this was normal consumption and even advised this on today's date, even though there is an active recall for this issue.

My motor died. All oil changes were made and still the motor died. No lights were present before the motor died. Car started ticking then died en route to dealership for observation ultimately had to be towed.
Hi how are you. I recieved a email about the recall for engine that stalls out. I believe you doing this because of the 100 emails i sent complaining about it and the 20 times i took my suv to the shop for it and they could not fix it. I contacted the dealership and they told me there is no recall and they cant help me. When i take off my SUV will stall in middle of intersection which they though it was the Duel Clutch and now you figured it was the engine. How can we get this fixed or add my VIN to the recall list. Stopped at a traffic light or corner waiting to turn, when I push the gas peddle to accelerate, the car will begin to accelerate and then hesitate and stop. When this has happened, I've pushed my foot pedal down to the floor. The vehicle jerks forward with a 20 second delay. Hello. I recently took my car to the authorized mechanic and had them check on an issue I am experiencing. For some reason, my car frequently hesitates when I go from a complete stop/slow roll to accelerate. For example, if I am stopped waiting to turn, often when I push the gas to accelerate, the car will begin to accelerate and then basically stop. When this has happened, I've pushed my foot down to the floor on the pedal before to make it go and it refused to go for about 20 or so seconds. Additionally, if I am in slow moving traffic and traffic begins to speed up, my car will hesitate to go forward when I try to accelerate. This is a huge safety concern. My vehicle had just over 69,000 miles and the engine seized while I was driving. The engine had to be replaced. This notification is a FYI, since Hyundai (from my understanding) is having motor problems in other models.
My car was purchased brand new in November of 2017. It has 71k mikes on it and has been regularly maintained. I began To notice around 50k miles that the oil was brining at an accelerated amount. My car required oil before the designated 5k miles and it would begin “clicking” which alerted me to this issue. September 17, 2021 I was Driving and my vehicle failed to accelerate and began making noises that resembled the oil issue. My car had a full synthetic oil change less than 3k miles ago and by the time I pulled Into my driveway the car stalled. Checked oil and it was low. Added 3 quarts of oil on 9/17/21 and left it to sit. 9/18/21 car started and was driven to car wash and was sitting idle for approximately 45 minutes and on drive home, stalled and had to have oil added again....
Catalyctic converter failed at 101,000 miles. It is out of warranty at 100,000 miles.
Dangerous acceleration issues... my car hesitates for almost 10 seconds when accelerating from a complete stop, at a stop light or turning into oncoming traffic and sometimes changing lanes at low speeds. This has caused near accidents on several occasions. I have even experienced the vehicle completely shutting off while idling and moving at low speeds in heavy traffic or going thru a drive thru restaurant. The Drive Clute Transmission (DCT) description that came with my vehicle when I purchased it mentioned "a direct driving feeling which may fee different" ... "more noticeable when starting from a stop or low vehicle speed"... what it failed to mention is that the car would delay or hesitate for near 10 seconds then leap forward or even completely shut off putting my safety and the safety of other drivers at risk for injury or worse fatality. The DCT is a major safety concern...
Driving east on I90 the Hyundai began to loose power going up Bozeman pass and burst into flames, smoke and flames shot foul from the car that came to rest on the shoulder. My friend and i were able to grab our dogs from the back seat get away from the car before it became engulfed in flames destroying the front half of the vehicle and the interior completely.

The vehicle was losing power going up a mountain. The contact was able to slowly move the vehicle over to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact asked another motorist to call the police to have the vehicle towed from the location. The police arrived and had a tow truck tow the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic was able to inspect the vehicle and noticed there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer for the diagnosis and repair. The vehicle was not repaired....
Engine failure at highway speed. Put family/children and myself at risk on an interstate when engine failed with no warning no CEL..after previously making complaints to Hyundai dealership for multiple engine problems burning excessive oil, excessive back pressure, oil leaks..dealer assured us no issues even after informing them we would be driving the vehicle on an extended trip. Left us stranded 5 hours from home..
We bought our 2017 Tucson with about 40000 miles in 2019. We have had some issues that are to be covered by the warranty. The last was the engine going. I was extremely religious about regular maintenance and always took it to the dealership to have the oil changed and other work every 3000. 2 of the last 4 oil changes cost me over $400 and $600 due to what I thought was work required to maintain the warranty, finding out later that this was false and the service people lied. In the last 4 oil changed I reported excessive oil consumption, 1 qt per 1000 miles at least. They told me this was normal and to be expected. I was 4 hours in to a 8 hour drive when the engine failed. I had checked and filled the oil before I left, in 4 hours it consumed over 3qts....
UNKNOWN. I bought my 2017 Hyundai Tuscon brand new in 2016. This car was not owned by anyone prior to me and had 11 miles on the dashboard. I maintained this car as I should have and got oil changes before the suggested time provided by the dealer. Now fast forward to 2020/2021 and my car is louder, making noises, not driving smoothly, and having trouble accelerating sometimes. I tell the dealer and they say nothing is wrong with my car but these problems persist. Eventually while driving to work early this year (spring 2021) my car completely stalls and will hardly drive faster than 5mph. I took the car to a mechanic (not Hyundai because they never have answers) that told me my catalytic converter was completely clogged and that it was an unusual thing to see in such a new car with only 100,000 miles on it. bought 2017 Tucson sport new. Within a few months i notice the acceleration was diminished and the vehicle paused when pressing down on gas pedal. Dealer assured me it was related to the dual clutch. Fast forward to April 2019 and the issue never resolved itself and ultimately resulted in a thrown rod. Engine was replaced. Dec 2020 car shakes violently on highway brought back to the shop dealer claims nothing is wrong. June 4th have oil changed per schedule by jun9 i am smelling smoke upon exiting car. Check oil and it is on low. drop off at dealer they claim nothing is wrong. Force me to pay for another oil change and perform a 500 mile oil consumption test which will involve me driving this car on the highway with an engine that can seize at any moment potentially killing me or others on the road. I bought my 2017 Hyundai Tuscon with 38,905 miles on it. My engine blew up at 70,806 miles while I was on my way to work.My husband was changing the oil and when he pulled the oil plug from the oil pan, NOTHING came out of the pan. We assumed the dealer just didn't put oil back in it or not enough. The mileage on the Tuscon the last time we took it to the dealer was at 54,988. We put a 7,500-mile oil change in it and the next oil change, it was dry again. No oil light, no engine light, no oil spots on the ground or the engine. No evidence of it leaking anywhere. Fast forward a few oil changes, sooner than suggested, we changed the oil at around 68,000 miles with no issues (only because we were changing the oil every 3,500 miles or so). Then...
HYUNDAI TUCSON 2.0L (NU GDI) IS LEAKING ENGINE OIL BETWEEN ENGINE AND TRANSMISION. VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD THE SAME CONDITION AND IT WAS SENT TO DEALERSHIP AROUND NOVEMBER 2019, THEY REMOVED THE TRANSMISSION AND INSTALLED A NEW CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL. I FELT A SLIGHT LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, AT WHICH POINT, I BEGAN MAKING MY WAY FROM THE HOV LANE TO EXIT. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MILES PER HOUR MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND SMOKE STARTED TO APPEAR FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND FROM THE TAIL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER NEARLY BEING HIT BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND MINE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND EXIT THE VEHICLE I OBSERVED FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE FLAMES LUCKILY EXTINGUISHED ON THEIR OWN. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND THAT A PISTON HAD GONE THROUGH THE ENGINE WALL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HYUNDAI WITH THESE YEAR VEHICLE AND ENGINE TYPE SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING ON HEY DO 70 CAR MADE A NOISE DROPPED TO 65 PPL WAS HONKING AT ME I LOOKED IN REAR VIEW MIRROR I SEE SPARKS COMING FROM BOTTOM OF CAR. I IMMEDIATELY MERGED TO THE RIGHT TURN CAR OFF AND IT STARTED SMOKING. I HAVE NO WARNING ⚠️ INDICATORS ON IN CAR TO SAY SOMETHING IS WRONG.
MADE APPOINTMENT TO CORRECT RECALL AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEN 1 WEEK LATER THEY SAID THERE IS CURRENTLY NO REMEDY TO FIX THE RECALL. THEY DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE, BUT WILL CONTACT ME TO MAKE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT ONCE THEY FIND A REMEDY. THE PROBLEM IF THIS RECALL IS NOT FIXED IT CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE. AT THIS TIME, I WAS ADVISED TO ONLY PARK OUTSIDE TO PREVENT A INTERNAL COMBUSTION IN THE ENGINE.
I PURCHASED 2017 TUCSON BRAND NEW AT ROUGHLY 22K MY ENGINE SEIZED AND THE 3RD CONNECTING ROD FAILED. AFTER ENGINE REPLACEMENT I CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY GOING OUT, BULB IS NOT OUT BUT WIRING SCORCHED AND BULB SOMEHOW CONTINUOUSLY BECOMES LOOSE. I HAVE REPLACED FRONT HEADLIGHTS REPEATEDLY WITH THE DRIVER FRONT SHATTERING IN HOUSING. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED CALIPERS AND HAVE GONE THROUGH 7 SETS OF ROTORS. AT ROUGHLY 60000 I NOTICED I WAS RUNNING OUT OF OIL IN BETWEEN EVERY 3000 MILE OIL CHANGE. CONTINUED TO BRING BACK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR S . I HAVE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES ABOUT HESITATION WHEN PULLING OUT FROM STOP AND ENGINE KNOCKING. MULTIPLE OIL PAN RESEAL GASKETS REPLACED FUEL PUMP REPLACED, OIL ALWAYS ALL OVER ENGINE. AT 110K MY ENGINE FAILED A SECOND TIME WITH HYUNDAI DENYING ALL CLAIMS. ORIGINALLY SAID THEY WOULD REIMBURSE ME...

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE AND TOLD THE CONTACT TO CONTACT A DEALERSHIP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000.
UNABLE TO START VEHICLE, VEHICLE HAS A SMART KEY KEYLESS SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE DOESN'T START THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ROCK SOLID, THE CAR PUTS IN ACC AND ON BUT WILL NOT START THE ENGINE. DRIVER MUST SEEK HELP TO PUSH THE PEDAL TO BE ABLE TO START THE CAR. AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN STARTED THE BRAKE FOOT PEDAL BECOMES NORMAL. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN OFF FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETECT THE CONDITION.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, DRIVER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN NUDGE AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO SHOW. ONCE PULLED OVER, DRIVER NOTICED THE CAR IS LEAKING. THE IGNITION WOULD NOT GO. IT WAS EXAMINED AND SHOWED THAT THE ROD PUNCTURED THE ENGINE AS WELL AS THE OIL FILTER, TRAILING OIL FOR MORE THAN A MILE. THE OIL WAS BURNING IN THE PUNCTURED ENGINE AND CAUSED THE SMOKE. THE CRANK SHAFT BROKE IN HALF NOT ALLOWING STARTER TO GO AS WELL.
MY 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSON CONSUMES MORE THAN 3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN FILTER CHANGES. I NOTICED THE OIL CONSUMPTION AROUND 36K MILES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SOUTHTOWN HYUNDAI (RIVERDALE, GA) MANY TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER DID 3 OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, ALL FAILED. I WAS TOLD NOTHING CAN BE DONE AT THE MOMENT. I EVEN REACHED OUT TO CORPORATE, WITH NO RESPONSE BACK. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 75K MILES ON THE ENGINE. PLEASE HELP.
WHEN ON ANY HILL (REVERSING OR FORWARD), IN HEAVY BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, AND IN SOME INTERMITTENT SITUATIONS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF POWER. THE SCARIEST PART OF THIS IS THAT THE CAR JOLTS QUICKLY ONCE IT FINALLY "FINDS A GEAR" AND DECIDES TO GO. I HAVE DONE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE HYUNDAI TUCSON HAS THREE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THAT CAUSE THE ISSUES WITH THE STALLING/LOW POWER ON TAKEOFF. I BELIEVE THAT PART OF IT MIGHT BE THE TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGING PROPERLY IN 1ST GEAR AND THAT SHOULD BE SOMETHING THEY CAN FIX WITH A COMPUTER UPDATE. THE SECOND FROM WHAT I'VE READ IS THAT THE FUEL TANK HAS A MATERIAL FLAKING OFF ON THE INSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK CAUSING THE FUEL FILTER TO BE DAMAGED/CLOGGED. THE THIRD AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THE REASON SOME OF THE TUCSONS FAIL IS A BAD CRANK SHAFT. MY GUESS IS THAT THE BAD CRANK SHAFT HAPPENS OVER TIME AND THAT THE PROBLEMS START WITH THE FUEL CLOGS. NHTSA #20V543000 RECALL NUMBER 195 STILL HAS NO REMEDY FOR THIS YEAR MODEL. THE DEALER I JUST BOUGHT MY VEHICLE FROM HAS 13/14 CERTIFIED PRE OWNED WITH OPEN RECALLS OF THIS NATURE. I PURCHASED AND THEN WAS TOLD I COULD NOT TAKE IT UNTIL THE RECALL WAS FIXED. UNDERSTANDABLE AND APPRECIATED. THE NEXT DAY NOBODY WOULD ANSWER MY TEXTS OR MESSAGES. UPON RESEARCHING I SEE WHY. THE SYMPTOMS CAME ON SUDDENLY, WITHOUT CHECK ENGINE CODES OR WARNINGS. THE FACTORY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY, SAYING THE WARRANTEE EXPIRED. I AM NOT CLAIMING WARRANTEE COVERAGE, BUT THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO RECENT RECALL AND SAFETY RECALL ISSUES FOR WHICH NHTSA FINED HYUNDAI FOR NEGLIGENCE. NJ
HYUNDAI TUCSON 1.6L TURBO ENGINE BURNS OIL INTERNALLY BEFORE 3,000 MILE OIL EXCHANGE. STARTED AROUND 75K MILES. THE TRUCK HESITATES AND WANTS TO STALL. I HAVE TO ADD QUART OF OIL EVERY 2K MILES BEFORE OIL EXCHANGE. THERE IS NO VISIBLE OIL LEAKS. IGNITION COIL ERROR CODE DIAGNOSTICS POINT TO MIS-FIRING OF CYLINDER 2. REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND SWITCH KNOWN GOOD IGNITION COIL BUT SAME ERROR CODE AND ENGINE LIGHT. THIS TRUCK MAKE, YEAR AND MODEL IS WELL KNOWN AT OIL EXCHANGE SERVICE CENTERS FOR RUNNING LOW ON OIL BECAUSE IT BURNS OIL UNKNOWINGLY TO IT'S VEHICLE OWNERS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT-OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN. THE VEHICLE COASTED ACROSS THE STREET TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO HIS DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GERALD HYUNDAI (209 HANSEN BOULEVARD, NORTH AURORA, IL 60542, (877) 781-4106) WHERE THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS POSSIBLY CAUSED BY THE DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
ENGINE FAILURE AT 121K MILES. I DRIVE LONG DISTANCES FOR WORK SO THE MILES ARE SUPER EASY NOT STOP AND GO. I NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE AT CERTAIN THROTTLE PEDAL POSITIONS, I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS BARELY TOUCHING THE DIP STICK SO I BOUGHT A QUART OF OIL AND THIS PUT THE LEVEL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACCEPTABLE RANGE ON THE DIP STICK. I PROCEEDED TO GET SOMEWHERE CLOSER TO MY HOME. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED BLINKING SO I GOT OFF ONTO THE EXIT AND AT THE TOP THE MOTOR MADE A HARD NOISE AND STOPPED AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH AND SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE CAR. THERE WAS OIL ON THE GROUND SO I ASSUME THE OIL PAN HAD A HOLE FROM A ROD FAILURE....
TRAVELING ON AN EXIT RAMP OFF THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE FAILED COMPLETELY. I HAD TO CASH IT DOWN AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. PROCEEDING ON THE NEXT HIGHWAY THE CAR CONTINUALLY STALLED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES BEFORE FINDING A SAFE PULLOVER; PUTTING MYSELF AND OTHER LIVES AT RISK. I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF MY VEHICLE FOLLOWING ALL MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES TO KEEP A HAPPY AND HEALTHY VEHICLE. AFTER LENGTHY PROCESS WITH HYUNDAI CORP AND DEALERSHIP, I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE NEW ENGINE SINCE THEY CLAIM MY INCIDENT DOES NOT FALL UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO "OUTSIDE INFLUENCES" SINCE HYUNDAI DID NOT WANT TO OWN UP TO A DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS NOW RESULTED IN A RECALL OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES. NEW ENGINE STILL STALLS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, BUT HAS NOT LEFT ME STRANDED YET. THIS WILL BE MY LAST HYUNDAI FROM SEVERAL INTERACTIONS REGARDING THIS INCIDENT. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THESE SAFETY ISSUES IN ALL THEIR ENGINES ACROSS ALL YEARS. THE 2016 AND 2017 TUSCON'S ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS THE 2014, 2015, 2018, AND 2016 MODELS.

BACKING UP ON A HILL IS VERY DIFFICULT - NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL IT SUDDENLY JUMPS. HOLDING AND INCHING FORWARD ON A HILL IS SIMILARLY A CHALLENGE. THE DEALER OF COURSE SAYS THERE'S NOTHING WRONG. THE THIRD TIME I COMPLAINED THEY FINALLY SAID IT WAS A DESIGN ISSUE AND THERE'S NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. OTHER THAN THAT, THE CAR IS QUITE WELL DESIGNED. I REALLY LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.
