The vehicle started to Make loud clinking sound coming from engine. Went to dealership for diagnostic and high pressure fuel pump failed. Was quote 2000$ .
Turned car on and it was making a very loud sound coming from what sounded like the engine. Very loud when accelerating or stepping on the gas. Driving at lower speed was also loud. Unknown if it was safe to drive. Took to mechanic and was told it was the high pressure fuel pump. There were no warning lights or warnings.
In August 2022, with approx. 92,000 miles, my 2017 Honda Pilot received fuel injector replacement and a PCM update under Honda TSB 20-100, performed by Schaumburg Honda. This Technical Service Bulletin is known to have downstream impacts on emissions systems if the root cause is not fully corrected. On August 13, 2025, at 134,045 miles, the vehicle triggered a P0430 code (“Bank 2 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold”). Schaumburg Honda again replaced the injectors. Less than a month later, on September 8, 2025, at 135,101 miles, the vehicle triggered a second emissions code, P0420 (“Bank 1 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold”). Schaumburg Honda informed me that both catalytic converters had now failed and quoted over $5,800 in replacement costs. This sequence of events strongly suggests a long-term emissions defect potentially caused by unresolved impacts from TSB 20-100. American Honda denied goodwill assistance based on mileage, despite the clear connection to prior manufacturer-directed...
Honda has a 2 TSBs for all Pilots on all VINs having a transmission juddering issue. They are making us pay out of pocket for a known issue on all 2017 VINs. I was quoted a minimum of $700 due to the labor involved. We, as customers, shouldn't have to pay for a known issue with all VINs of 2017 Honda Pilots. It caused issues with cruise control and keeping speed on the road especially uphill. Sometimes it will shift extremely hard. It happens at all speeds when partially on the accelerator. It has been reproduced at Honda dealerships but they will not fix it unless the vehicle produces a code. I fear driving this in the wintertime with the pulsating accelerations possibly causing me to slide. It is unknown if the manufacturer has looked at this actual park on this vehicle. But they do know about it on all 2017...
I drive a 2017 Honda Pilot Touring 9-speed and I’ve been dealing with some frustrating issues for last 3 years. The car has sudden loss of power, jerking, harsh shifting, and acceleration problems. I’ve done all the dealer-recommended maintenance (timing belt + water pump, spark plugs, valve adjustment, fuel injector cleaning, regular oil and transmission fluid changes), but the problem still hasn’t gone away. I feel unsafe to drive the car on freeway due to sudden loss of power and then sudden acceleration. Sometimes it feels like the gears don’t shift when they should, I am not a mechanic and not sure if it’s an engine issue or a transmission issue. I checked for recalls but didn’t find any. First I thought it has to do with driving on ECO mode but it seems like it does not matter which mode I drive. It still gives me the same issue.
Emission Code P0430. Changed everything related using OEM Parts and still showing the same code. O2s Sensors changed, Fuel Injectors by the dealer under warranty and Catalytic Converter change and still P0430 Permanent Code.
Noisy Fuel pump and difficulty to start the car.
Failure occurred at highway speed. A host is warning light came on and the car lost power. Lights that came on included emissions, traction control, power steering, all wheel drive and towing (I wasn’t towing anything). No lights were on before the incident. The vehicle lost power and could not maintain any speed. I was able to roll into the breakdown lane. The vehicle was brought to a local Honda dealer who preformed the diagnosis and determined the issue to be a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. Seems this has been the source of several recalls including the 2017 pilot but not my vin. It seems like the recall my need to be expanded
I feel the engine is failing
2017 FWD Honda Pilot, Current miles 67k. In June 2025, Morning start, car makes whining noice when idle and gets louder while driving. Pilot then loses power, poor acceleration, starts to stall and steering wheel jerk. NO WARNING LIGHT / CHECK ENGINE ON DASHBOARD. (Common for light not to come on) Not putting my family and others at risk Pilot was taken to nearby dealer for diagnostics. I was told high pressure fuel pump needs fail / need replacement. Advisor at dealer sent out Goodwill request for replacement and was denied any repair. This is known problem on "2017-2020 Acura and Honda vehicles" Part #16790-RLV-305 - PUPM ASSY IS COVERED under Emission Warranty 84month / 70k miles. Why did Honda denied repair(?) Called American Honda Motor co., Inc. recall line Center and submit another request for repair. waiting for call back.
The car began making a grinding noise, shimmied and surged. Independent mechanic found documentation online that Honda reported that if this occurred in 2017 Honda Pilots the problem could be the Fuel Pump Direct Injection High Pressure part. To correct problem this part must be replaced. Mechanic did replace this part which corrected the problems.
At times, when I attempt to accelerate, the fuel pump malfunctions, causing the vehicle to stall. This has almost caused accidents in the middle of intersections on multiple locations. When I attempt to cross intersections with other cars, my car is almost hit when it suddenly stops. The car has been inspected by a Mossy Honda of Lemon Grove and the fuel pump problem has been confirmed. There are no warnings or indications that this will happen. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen every day. I am available at any time for an inspection.
My 2017 pilot 6speeds gave a really bas gas smell then my it started to sound like an exhaust leak but after going my regular mechanic it was confirmed that my high pressure fuel pump was bad. I cant afford the cost and labor so now im hoping my car would also come included with the fuel pump warranty. I keep up with regular maintenance and currently only has 72k miles on it. Plss get it resolved as i see alot of ppl on honda pioneers threads talking about the same exact issue.
When the Idle Stop feature is activated, the car idles at a redlight or prolonged stop as when stuck in traffic. The car engine stalls once the brake pedal is released and must be restart in order to move the vehicle. The condition is dangerous as it has happened in busy traffic. It happens approximately 1 out of every 10 times the idle stop is activated.
To whom it may concern, I own a 2017 Honda Pilot which recently stalled while I was driving on the highway, forcing me to pull over. There was no indication that anything was wrong with the vehicle at the time - no check engine lights, no warning indicators, no alerts - this happened suddenly and unexpectedly. My car felt like it lost power, the steering wheel became jerky, and I was concerned for my safety. All the warning lights on the dashboard then lit up, and I believe the car entered limp mode. Had I not been on an empty highway, I believe that it could have easily led to an accident. Fortunately, I was able to slowly drive towards a Honda Service Center nearby, who ran diagnostics and told me that the fuel pump had failed. The error code that their diagnostics reported was p0087: fuel rail pressure too...
Vehicle stalls when trying to accelerate and then jerks when it eventually does. RPM needle bounces when trying to accelerate after having to slow down.
Recall notice received February 2024. Contacted dealership in September 2024 for appointment to have recall completed. I was told no parts would be available in January 2025. Called in January 2025 and cannot get an appointment until May 2025 at two different local Honda dealerships. Outrageous safety neglect!
All of the warning lights come on the dashboard, the D for Drive flashes. While driving the vehicle downshifts and stalls and loses power and 75% of the time when you come to a complete stop the car completely stalls, loses power and you have to manually turn the engine off and restart the vehicle.
My 2017 Honda Pilot in 4/2023 I was driving the belt way my hood was bouncing as if it was going to fly off an kill us all and who was behind us in rush hour traffic. I called made appointment with dealer. My son went on line there was a recall for 2017 Pilot for hood problem, but not my Vin # I was very very upset. I was told it was fixed when I was there last. I told the dealer if they didn't fix it put it in writing. So my family will know what happen to us if that hood came off. Now my Pilot has been jerking sputtering when I take off it's been going on about a year. I keep putting it off until. I was almost hit in the back trying to get on the beltway, everyone screaming. So I check the recall...
The vehicle has stalled and had poor acceleration since we purchased it in 2018. The fuel injectors were replaced within the first two years, but continued to have the same problem with stalling and poor acceleration. Additionally, the catalytic converter starting giving error codes. Honda finally attributed the problems to faulty fuel injectors and fuel pump. The fuel injectors have been replaced for the second time and after waiting over a year for a fuel pump, parts have finally become available, and it is scheduled to be replaced next week. In the meantime, the catalytic converter has had to be replaced. I have heard that others have had similar issues with catalytic converters going bad earlier than they should and have had mechanics say that these fuel injector/fuel pump problems could be causing the issue, or possibly that the catalytic converters are faulty.
Late 2023 our Honda Pilot Touring had all lights and dash display systems come on while driving in town. The vehicle became extremely jerky and wouldn’t drive more than 15mph. Major engine vibration and systems failures. Had this happened while on the freeway it could have been a catastrophic accident. There were no symptoms prior to this issue happending. We towed the vehicle to Honda and they told us the cam shaft had worn out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had just over 100k miles. Cam shaft and the cover were replaced as Honda admitted to poor tolerances in the manufacturing and this being a know issue. They never recalled only made the issue a service notice to dealerships. Well, about a year later and our Honda Pilot experiences the same issue. We have it towed to Honda and they say the engine is a complete loss. Needs...
I purchased my 2017 Pilot new from Honda. Around 10,000 miles a code appeared and said Emissions problem and a picture of my engine. I immediately called Honda and took in to service dept. They said my fuel injectors need to be replaced and gave me an extended 150,000 warranty on injectors. Everything ok for awhile…until I hit around 60,000 to 80,000. The emissions engine light came on suddenly then after a few drives/ turning off then on engine it went away. I talked to Honda about this concern they said if light not staying on could be nothing more than a misfire or need to do a tune up. I did the required tuneup …. Emissions engine light still appearing off and on. Now the emissions engine light hardly goes off and has been doing this since around 117,000 miles and I just recently having issues with key faub...
My car for a long time has had the errors/emissions engine light on and when Honda has performed the diagnostic testing they say it could be the oxygen sensor or catalytic converter or fuel injectors or many other things...I've replaced the oxygen sensor recently and the light still on and doesn't go off. I think my car issue needs to be investigated and a recall performed. I see other recalls for my year and make of vehicle but when I enter my VIN its not saying no recall at this time. I feel like Honda doesn't know what is wrong with my car and of course at this point my car's is not under warranty and the fuel injectors they had replaced when I had around 10,000 or 20,000 miles on my car that also is now not covered on any warranty. Please help , all I want is my...
We are going through gas at a very accelerated rate. We were told in September that there was a recall for a fuel related part. We were told this by AutoFair Honda in Manchester, New Hampshire, where we purchased the vehicle. We were then told that appointments for the recall repairs would be made in November. Upon calling today, They are claiming there's never been such a recall. I was told by three different representatives over the course of the past two months that they're still awaiting appointment times because they don't have the parts in to do the recall repair. It's a 17.5 gallon tank and we have to fill it twice a week and don't do a lot of driving- enough is enough.
Car shut down while driving on highway. After 10 Seconds, restarted but engine was sputtering along.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Our call has stalled 3 times within a month. I looked online to see what could be the issue. It states there is a recall for a fuel pump issue but I looked online and it is saying our VIN isn't effected? I don't see how that would be the case if we are having the issue many others have noted. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - It has stalled while trying to pull out of a parking lot and shuts off. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Not yet. It is random. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - I have an appointment with them in a couple...
engine misfires, rough idling, decreased fuel economy, and a check engine light due to potential clogging or wear within the injectors, sometimes caused by debris from the high-pressure fuel pump
The car engine was revving up intermittently, with rough shifting of gears, poor acceleration and 3 of the dashboard malfunction indicator lights activating - emission system, transmission system, and blind spot information system. Car still at dealer.
High pressure fuel pump failed at 57,500 miles.
I have a recall for fuel pump malfunction that was announced in December 2023. The first time I was notified was in February 2024 and today we are at the end of October 2024 (240 days) and there has been no update. My car failed to start twice and the battery was in good shape in May and July. The car constantly hesitates when trying to accelerate. Every time, I call a Honda dealer they tell me that the replacement for the item is not available. Upon checking for some affects that might be caused as a result of this recall, the fuel filter might get bad due to bad fuel pump, it might also affect the function of the fuel injectors, valves, and the whole fuel system. Honda wants to charge me just to take a look into this incident. I feel unsafe driving on highways or even in...
To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding Honda's refusal to address a known issue with my 2017 Honda Pilot Touring AWD, despite the existence of a service bulletin. My vehicle has been consistently experiencing error code P0430, which pertains to the catalytic converter and emissions system. This error happens while driving several times. Honda has issued a service bulletin (NHTSA ID: 10187006) to address this very issue, accessible in the attachement. I scheduled an appoitnment at Honda to request the repair outlined in the bulletin. Unfortunately, they have refused to perform the necessary repairs due to my vehicle having a salvage title. I want to emphasize that although my vehicle has a salvage title, there has never been any engine or mechanical damage that would affect the emissions system or components causing this error code. Additionally, I am not alone in experiencing this...
After driving for over 30 minutes, mixed highway and road, at a stop light, the autostart failed, engine turned off, and went into neutral, w/ a warning the autostart failed. Put into park and restart engine. Cars honking, got the car started after 30 seconds or so. Did not immediately go into park when pushed!
car hesitates when accelerating at both low and high speed, check engine light is also on now. It started several years back, but problem has became worsen.
I have had a problem with my vehicle throwing the same codes for over a year and my mechanic and I could not figure out the problem. Finally he ran a report and showed me that these codes match recalls that should have been done on my vehicle but have not been done. I don't know who put it in the system that they had done it but my vehicle is not safe or okay and the dealership won't address my problems because their system shows that it was already fixed.
This vehicle has continued to have faulty fuel injectors. Upon investigation I found that American Honda Motor Inc. submitted a recall and that it was covered under warranty. I am a department of State employee overseas with this American made vehicle which has faulty fuel injectors. I asked that the Honda American company provide the fuel injector parts to the Mexican Honda company so my vehicle could be fixed and they refused. According to their customer service representatives “the warranty does not extend past the United States” and therefore they are not responsible for the faulty fuel injectors.
Very loud noise coming from high pressure fuel pump and intake hose (connector) is vibration rapidly. Had to replace high pressure fuel pump. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. was contacted and no help. Case #14731590
Had an “Emission system” problem in Jan. 2024. The Honda services replaced fuel injector and other parts relating to the problem. However, 1,000 miles after the same problem showed up again and was told on 6/10/24 by the Honda services that problem is the same again after running a test. I tried contacting American Honda to check any recall and found out that anything relating to fuel injector has extended warranty. Today, 6/11/24, after I demand for free car loaner Honda services called to tell us that this time it was the catalityc converter fails. I’m very concern whether telling me the truth or not.
After owning 2017 pilot (brand new) for 3 to 4 years, started experiencing intermittent stalling at stops when auto idle engaged. Similar to many other complaints, car would stall out, entering into an accessory mode. At times takes several attempts to restart the car. Have replaced battery and had the software update related to the issue done at the dealer. However, the issue persists and we now much remember to turn off the auto idle feature every time we start the car, or else we will end up stalled after a stop - usually creating a very dangerous situation and infuriating the drivers around us.
Emission system problem light continues to come on and car doesn’t run the way it’s supposed to. Code reads something to do with fuel
When I turned on the engine for me 2017 Honda Pilot, check engine light and every system in the car had a problem. "AWD system problem", "Emissions system problem", "Steering problem" and many more. Went to the local honda dealer and they diagnosed it as a high pressure fuel pump problem. There is a recall for this fuel pump for te 2017-2020 Honda Pilot, but for the VIN # for my Pilot, there is no recall. That does not make any sense. Now I have to spend almost $2,000 to replace the fuel pump, which should be recalled.
It is the fuel pump recall I am in need of replacement. I have went to Honda and tried to have them look at it and they gave me a complete run around. My car begins to jerk and when I go to speed up the car doesn’t like to go. Honda said it wasn’t the fuel pump but I have had it looked else where and it is the pump. I drive everyday with my kids in the car. I feel like this is causing me anxiety and my safety for me and my kids.
I was driving in 80 mph traffic in and my car instantly lost all power while alarms starting blaring while I was changing lanes. I was unable to brake or to accelerate and had to coast — over 6 lanes of 5:00 traffic to a stop and was lucky we weren’t killed. According to the dealer, it’s a known issue with the fuel injectors and Honda is planning to repair it at their cost, but have no idea when they can do it because the parts are not available. We absolutely are lucky we weren’t killed.
There is a significant power loss while driving and power up all of a sudden!! This is a major safety concern. Last time nearly missed the hit by behind vehicle due to sudden power loss. today I was taking left turn and suddenly accelerated and it went out of my control. I think it’s due to a fuel pump issue. And from last month in the dashboard “EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM “ light pop up twice. First time took to service in Aberdeen SD at Harr motors service center and he adjusted the program I guess. Please take an immediate action regarding this. Thanks, [XXX] Cell [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Regular issues with Fuel injection system, had to change the fuel injectors multiple times. Severe vibrations in the car between 2nd and 3rd gear, had changes transmission fluid including full flush but made no change. Several complaints online on this model. NHTSA/DOT need to investigate the lemon issues. [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2017 Honda Pilot has a jerking issue when accelerating slowly or fast. It lags to accelerate. You can see the RPM gauge bounce when this happens. The "bucking" or "jerking" can be felt by the driver and sometimes the passenger but its not super noticeable. My vehicle has less than 60,000 miles on it currently. I have not changed the transmission fluid but this issue has only just started recently. My transmission fluid currently does not look brown or smell burnt. It looks the normal red color. There is no warning lights have appeared on the dashboard.
When I turned on the engine, heard abnormal noise and shaking from the engine compartment, when accelerating, the noise come up even louder and acceleration is not smooth as usual. The Honda dealer shop had replaced the high pressure fule pump due to it was defective, I paid $1449.47 for the repair.
Honda dealership Visalia, Ca 93257 has unable to provide a remedy for this recall.
My engine light came on with the words engine emission problem on my 2017 Honda Pilot. Upon research, there is a Honda Warranty Extension on 2017-2019 pilots if you receive error code P0420. I took my vehicle in for service and was told that is indeed the error code, but unfortunately, the fuel injector and connector are on back order and could not be immediately repaired. There have been several complaints online of the fuel pump injector kits on back ordered and people are not able to get their vehicle fixed.
I was at a stoplight at a busy intersection (car previously running well) & when I went to accelerate as the light turned green, my car leaped/jerked forward & would only accelerate to 5-8 mph. All of the warning lights on the dash lit up at the same time. I SLOWLY got out of the traffic & onto the side of the road. I turned the car off & back on. All the warning lights were still on. The car went into drive, but would not accelerate past 25 mph & was jerking. Honda evaluated the car & determined that it was the camshaft that wasn't manufactured correctly. Honda stated that this is a known Honda defect & already had parts packaged to fix the problem. I have all of the paperwork provided to me when the repairs were made. However, this is not acceptable. A known HONDA issue like...
I am getting the 'Emissions System Failure" notification on the dashboard. It comes at random times and sometimes it goes away. I am not sure what the problem is as the vehicle is well maintained and there is no other issue. I read that it is in the recall list of 2019 vehicle so I guess this is the same issue for 2017 as well.
