At 86k miles, the engine lost all power and abruptly slowed the vehicle with fast moving cars behind. Vehicle eventually stalled in the middle of the intersection. The car has always made a slight ticking noise, but on this drive, it rapidly worsened before stalling. Cars traveling behind could have crashed into the rear of the vehicle, or we could have been broad sided while stuck in the intersection. The dealership inspected the car and said the crankshaft bearing is bad and the whole engine needs to be replaced. They determined this purely by sound. They did not do any other inspection of the engine or oil. This leads me to believe this is a known and common problem that put my family in danger. I now have a used engine installed, and will likely be experiencing this same situation in the near future after reading so many others with...

**Description of the Problem:** I am experiencing significant engine issues with my 2016 Honda Pilot that seem consistent with the problems described in the recent connecting rod bearing recall, yet my vehicle is not included in the current recall. **Component/System Failed:** - The component that appears to have failed is the connecting rod bearings within the engine. - The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. **Safety Risk:** - Persistent rattling and knocking noises from the engine area indicate potential connecting rod bearing wear, posing a significant safety risk. If the connecting rod bearing fails, it can cause the engine to seize, leading to a sudden loss of power while driving, which could result in an accident. **Reproduction/Confirmation:** - I have reported these issues to the Honda dealership multiple times. Despite my concerns and detailed descriptions of the symptoms, the dealership has been unable to diagnose the problem definitively. -...

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. While the contact's daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

2016 Honda Pilot EX with 131,000 miles - Connector Rod Issue On [XXX] while driving (40 mph) I heard a loud noise in the engine. The engine then proceeded to smoke profusely that I thought it was on fire. I immediately pulled the car over to the side of the road and shut the engine off while smoke filled the area. After a quick investigation with police who stopped to assist I realized ALL the engine oil leaked all over the road. The car was then towed to Clinton Honda in Annandale, New Jersey where after their mechanics performed a diagnostic it was determined the "Connector Rod" broke and went through the engine block. Clinton Honda informed me it would require a new motor ($5k) and labor ($4.5k) to resolve the issue. Since it was no longer under normal / extended warranty Clinton Honda was unwilling to repair the vehicle...

On July 11, my engine failed on my 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. My car has 95,000 miles. I had no warning lights or messages prior to complete failure. While driving, out of the blue, the engine started to make rattling noises and sounded horrible. When I was trying to accelerate and merge onto the interstate there was no get up and go. It was very scary for my daughter and I. I immediately got off the highway as soon as I could and approximately 10 minutes later the car stalled out on the side of the road. I had it towed to the Valley Honda dealership where I bought it and have done ALL my regular and recommended maintenance. They diagnosed that the rod bearing broke in cylinder 6. My car is still currently at the Valley Honda dealership.

With no prior warning while driving on the freeway, two warning messages appeared, Emission systems malfunction and transmission system malfunction.” At the same time the D started to blink. We started to lose power to the wheels. Luckily we made it to an off ramp. If this had happened someplace else it could have caused a major accident. We had to have it towed to the Honda dealer. It was caused by a rear bank spool valve failure.

July 2022, my wife was in a parking space. She placed the vehicle in reverse and backed out of the parking space. She braked to stop, placed the vehicle in drive and pressed the accelerator. Immediately the car shut off in the middle of the parking lot and the engine light came on. Some strangers helped her push the car out of the way of traffic. She thought the battery died so called USAA and they sent out roadside assistance who tried to jumpstart the battery but it didn't work. The car was towed to the closest Honda dealership and after 30 minutes told us the engine seized. When we asked how that happened, they said they didn't know. Then they tried to buy the car from us , gave us a preprinted buyback flyer and tried to hard sell us into buying a new car. We left and towed...

I have an active recall on my honda, the fuel pump. I have had symptoms of this problem over the past year even prior to the recall. Bradenton Honda is refusing to do the recall now, stating my car hasn't stalled and there is no light on. They are waiting until FALL to do the recall but there is a long list. They said they can only do recalls on cars that stall. My car has intermittent losses of power when accelerating. I have issues where all the lights on the dash would just turn on and then it disappeared. Now the alternator is dead and a faulty fuel pump can cause this. I don't want to pay twice for a faulty alternator if Honda won't honor the recall. Honda is stating the recall is not really needed and they feel Honda is making customers nervous. I would like you...

Internal failure, the bearings on the crankshaft failed. If an engine fails, the vehicle may lose motive power, increasing the risk of crash, fire and resulting injury. Yes, this appears to be a very common issue with 2016 Honda Pilots. They have a safety recall for a very limited number of VINS associated with this issue. Safety Recall 23-097: Safety Recall: 2016–19 Multi-Model Connecting Rod Bearing Stop Sale No warning lights or indicators prior to the issue.

Auto-Engine Idle Restart issue. This is the fifth occurrence of this event over several years. After coming to a full stop at a busy intersection with the Auto Engine Idle function engaged, my vehicle's engine automatically stopped as expected but did not re-start as expected after the light turned green. As a result, traffic behind my vehicle was forced to pull out into other lanes (in several instances crossing into on-coming traffic lanes) to proceed through the intersection. Mechanics and dealers have not been able to replicate or diagnose the issue, and there were no warnings or other problems with my vehicle at the times these events occurred.

THE ENGINE FAILED IN JULY OF 2023. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE FREEWAY AND LOST COMPLETE POWER. NEW DRIVER WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL AT NIGHT GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL VEHICLE LOST POWER. LIGHTS AND RINGING SOUNDS THEN OCCURED. VEHCILE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. CONFIRMED ENGINE SEIZED AND COULD NOT CONFIRM AS TO WHY THIS OCCURED. VEHICLE HAD COOLANT, GAS AND OIL. NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE IN OTHER PARTS. RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE ENGINGE. HONDA CORPORATION REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH REPLACING ENGINE. NOVEMBER 12, 2023 RECALL 23V751000 WAS ISSUED FOR ENGINES INDICATING ROD BEARING MAY WEAR AND SEIZE THE ENGINE FOR CERTAIN 2016 HONDA PILOTS. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND HONDA REFUSES TO ASSIST WITH REIMBURSEMENT AS STATES IN THE RECALL.

Honda pilot has multiple warning lights problem. I am an extremely normal and safe driver. However, the warning sign turns on and off again and again. parking collision Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Emissions System Problem This happens frequently when turning on the engine or while driving. Even there have been no accidents, no electrical changes, and even the battery was recently replaced. so I went to an auto shop and had it repaired. The car shop also said that there are too many Honda cars with this symptom. However, even after several days, the same symptoms are recurring. Sometimes it's on and sometimes it's off and it's a mess. It's all directly related to safety, so I feel very stressed every time I drive. If a safety warning light comes on while driving, the driver becomes anxious and doubts safety. I google the forum...

My 2016 Honda pilot with 3.5 engine has known issues for rod bearing failure campaign # 24-001 has failed. In speaking with the Honda Dealership they stated that I needed to call American Honda to get my vin added to the campaign since I have had this issue. American Honda refused to do this and expects me to pay for an engine replacement and possibly get reimbursed later. This is unacceptable. I see many complaints online with the same circumstances. I bought a Honda for reliability but yet this has been a known issue for years and American Honda is not addressing it. I can't afford a new motor. Because this is a manufacturer defect Honda needs to take responsibility. Please help!

1.Engine connecting rod bearing failed causing engine to seize. 2.Push button start will not work most of time so cannot start car or shut it off at times Safety: Engine locked up while driving down a 2 lane road with no shoulder. Causing an issues with cars traveling in both directions till i could get vehicle towed. Starting/ shutting off issue is on going. Connecting rod bearing failure was confirmed by dealer, but Honda says my Vin is not part of the recall and will do nothing about it. Had to pay for repairs 7K+ out of my own pocket. I got engine replaced and 6 months later start/ stop button issue is happening and they had a recall for this also that they say my Vin is not included. When engine bearing seized happened suddenly. All lights on dash come on and engine stopped. When tried to restart engine...

The vehicle has had so many problems since it was new. We are the only owners this vehicle has always been unsafe. Auto idle has always turned car off and left me stuck in traffic. The engine just failed. Multiple malfunction indicators lights came on flashing D (drive) light, engine light, emissions light. Vehicle was shuddering under acceleration. Vehicle stopped as unsafe and had it towed.

Mechanic looked at it and said their is internal engine failure, also known as "Rod Knock". He then advised me to take it to a Honda dealer because of the known recall.

This is a 9 year old vehicle that should not be stalling and shutting down. I had to be towed twice and have the fuel pumps replaced. Honda feels like they are not responsible. The fuel pump on the 2016 Honda pilot is no good. I should not have to replace the fuel pumps in a 9 year old car. Honda should reimburse myself and several others. Please make this a recall or a warranty extension. I almost crashed and rear ended because the vehicle stop working on the highway. Please help all of us 2016 Honda Pilot owners.

We noticed the engine making an unusual sound, so we took the vehicle into the Honda dealership service department. The engine tech used a borescope which showed damage to the cam shaft. The tech then determined the knocking sound was caused by a rod knock. The service advisor recommended replacing the engine with a remanufactured engine. The cause of this issue is unknown, although we are suspecting 23V-751. There have been no lights or codes that indicated any engine issues. This vehicle has 125,000 miles on it, and has been meticulously maintained at the local Honda dealership for that entire time.

My spouse was stopped at a traffic light, when the light turned green she accelerated but immediately lost power and the vehicle was stalled in the middle of the intersection. She tried to start it but would not restart. We had to leave the car in the intersection while waiting for the police and towing. She worried that a vehicle would collide with our vehicle and until she was able to exit the vehicle and move to a nearby sidewalk.. Luckily she made it safely and no-one collided with the car. We had it towed to our local mechanic. The inspected the car and found that the bearing had seized up the crankshaft. I connected with Honda and they told me to take it to a local dealer to have it inspected by them. The dealer had the vehicle for two weeks and came up with the same conclusion. After a...

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to veer to the exit, the vehicle failed to accelerate and suddenly lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

Engine is making a knocking noise at startup, continues when accelerating. This was confirmed by the dealer who cited "engine has lower end rod knock. These are the same symptoms as NHTSA Recall #23v-751. I opened a case with Honda but they said because my VIN was not included in the recall, they would not cover the cost of the repair. This is a known problem with the 2016 Honda Pilot and Honda is trying to get away with limiting the number of vehicles it will cover or wait until people's mileage is too high. It's just wait us out with this company.

A connecting rod bearing in the engine of my 2016 Honda Pilot seized while driving on the highway during acceleration while passing a vehicle, causing a complete failure of my engine. The vehicle began to de-accelerate as I was returning to the right lane and the engine light started flashing. I was able to make it onto the shoulder of the highway before all ability to accelerate was gone. The engine was making a kind of clanky sound as I turned the engine off. The vehicle is available for inspection and I would be happy to let it be looked at. Considering the vehicle had a complete engine failure on a fast moving major highway, this put myself and other drivers at risk of a major crash and possible fatalities. I was only able to avoid this due to a large shoulder being available on the stretch of highway I...

On [XXX] I noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine of my 2016 Honda Pilot so I made an appointment with Pacific Honda in San Diego the next day for a diagnostics test. The following day they called me and said that the technician was able to replicate the issue and it was a rod knock and I would need a new engine. I was quoted $10,725.04 for the repair. I declined the service because I could not afford an almost $11,000 bill all while still making payments on the car. I was still able to drive it home and after a little bit more research I found an open recall for 2016 Honda Pilots describing the same exact issue my car was diagnosed with as well as other years and similar model vehicles (Ridgeline & Odyssey). I read the potential dangers of this issue and finding out that...

On [XXX] 2023 our 2016 Honda Pilot experienced a total engine failure while we were driving on [XXX] in Maryland just south of the Delaware border. The only warning was a clicking noise that lasted for a few minutes and then an engine warning light. We had just had the car serviced by Sheehy Honda in Alexandria, VA on November [XXX] (which is the only place we have it serviced) and the vehicle only had 65,000 miles on it. We were stranded beside the highway and had to get the vehicle towed to the nearest Honda station (Martin) in Delaware where they said that pieces of metal had broken off inside the motor requiring total engine replacement. Martin showed us photos and video of the metal pieces. After getting the engine replaced by Martin Honda, I did some online research and found Service Bulletin 23-097 dated November 9, 2023 posted...

My vehicle has been loosing power when accelerating. This has been an ongoing issue for approximately six months or so. I' have taken it to two different mechanic shops locally and both have stated that some of the fuel injectors are not working properly and 5 cylinders are misfiring. That is the reason the vehicle is loosing power. But they don't understand why the engine light or any other light are not coming up on the cluster board. Vechicle continues to jerk and shudder everytime we stop and only happens on 2 and 3 gear to the point we have to stay two cars back everytime it is in use to avoid rear ending any other vehicles. Feels like it looses power to the point of turning off then begans to pull. The RPM needle jumps up and down when the shuddering begins. It is a great concern such that...

I am writing about my 2016 Honda Pilot (VIN [XXX] ). The car broke down in the middle of the road on [XXX], with the engine seizing and not able to start again. The car has only 134k miles and has had all of the recommended maintenances since we bought the vehicle Certified Used from Honda in 2017. There were no lights, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The car had an oil change the week prior to this incident at a Honda dealership, and the car's inspection came back showing no repair needs or problems. We have all of the service records for this vehicle. The car has been towed to the Honda dealership in Thousand Oaks, CA. The dealership has indicated the engine requires replacement due to the number 2 piston not being able to move likely due to the crankshaft failing. This...

We bought the car online from a Honda dealer located about 450 miles away in Arkansas and on [XXX] we met them in Dallas near the halfway point and they delivered the car It was a one owner with just under 29000 miles, had a clean carfax, title, etc. Over the next 10 days, we put about 300-350 miles on the car, including the 220 miles home from Dallas. On [XXX] we were driving at about 45-50 miles an hour when we heard a sort of "ping" noise, sort of like a tin can dropping, the car began to run rough and a number of message lights flashed on the dash. We had it towed to our local mechanic who drained the oil and cut open the filter and he found metal fragments and diagnosed a thrown rod bearing. We then had it towed to the local Honda dealer who...

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle oil light illuminated. The contact added oil and resumed driving. The contact stated after the vehicle was restarted, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact moved over to the shoulder to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with connecting rod bearing failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Dealership involved is Lamacchia Honda at 932 Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13204. They have the failed engine and vehicle currently. The engine failed rapidly, and could have caused a unexpected stall and made the vehicle hard to control, had it not happened while the vehicle was parked. The issue was noticed in early March, approximately 116,200 miles on the odometer, with a small knocking noise not noticeable under all conditions. Once the knock noise was discovered, the vehicle was driven approximately 100 miles to return home. The next morning the car was started, in order to identify the noise. The engine was running for 4-5 seconds before the knock became rapidly worse, and a low oil level warning was displayed. I immediately shut down the car, and confirmed that the engine oil level was full. After this, I drained 1 liter of engine oil for analysis (from Blackstone Laboratories), and...

Meticulously maintained 2026 Honda Pilot with less than 90,000 miles experienced a catastrophic engine failure while driving on highway. Dealership diagnostic found code P0305 and commented, "the engine bearing failed resulting in a catastrophic failure. Cut open oil filter and found bearing material inside. Recommending a used or new engine." This same vehicle / year has a NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-751- 2016 & 2018-2019 Pilot Conn Rod Inspect Recall- there is a manufacturing defect of the engine crankshaft, the connecting rod bearing can prematurely wear and seize. The issue is my vehicles VIN# is NOT included in the recall, event though the failure code and bearing material found in oil filter indicates a high degree of similar root cause as the recall. There are other public forums and social media platforms with owners of 2016 Honda Pilots that are describing exactly same experience- well maintained, engine failure that are NOT...

Our Honda pilot has always had its routine maintenance and been kept in a garage. One day as we started it, the car made a weird noise and before we could get it back home the engine light was flashing red. We immediately shut it off and upon getting it towed to the dealership they took it apart to find the problem, didn’t really give us a conclusive answer and was told it now seized up completely and needs a new motor. I'm wondering if this is a common problem since I've had multiple Hondas in the past and ran them each for over 200,000 miles without anything close to this happening.

Through diagnostic at Honda Dealership, the #5 bearing failed causing engine damage (crank shaft and connecting rod). This pilot year is included in the current Part 573 Safety Recall Report, however this particular VIN is not currently included.

Brought my 2016 Honda Pilot (71k miles) to dealer due to loud knocking noise and dealer confirmed rod bearing failure on cylinder 6 caused the issue and ruined the connecting rod and also the crankshaft. Dealer said the VIN wasn't part of the recall however the car's production date is [XXX] which falls under the Production dates listed in here: [XXX] Have to pay for a replacement engine to be put in. Honda should absolutely cover this due to the defect and recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Rod bearing and crankshaft failure. Whole engine needs to be replaced. There is a recall on 2016 Honda Pilot engines but apparently this car with this VIN is not covered. Honda is lying. I only have 70000 miles and obviously, my engine developed the same exact problem as the recalled 2016 pilots.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnostic test, and it was discovered that the crank bearing lock had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was unable to repair the vehicle due to a staffing shortage. The vehicle was repaired by a local mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, however informed the contact the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

The Honda stop-start system in this vehicle has a flaw. On this day the engine shut down as normal at a light, but failed to start when the foot was removed from the brake. The engine sputtered and shut back off. This should be a problem if a restart could have been attempted but this failure was so severe that the car had to be put in park and shut off completely. Almost like a reboot of the computer. Once the car was shut off and then powered up again the car could be started and move under it's own power. Even thought I was quick to turn on hazard flashers, cars behind me became angry at the inconvenience, honking and swerving to get around me when the light was green. Honda needs to make a way to attempt to restart after an unsuccessful attempt by the auto start system....

2016 Honda Pilot EX-L Connecting Rod Bearing Failure. I am the original owner of this vehicle, which has around 98,000 miles on it and now has a serious rod knock. My vin is not covered by the current recall, but I believe it should be. It is unacceptable that a manufacturer fault should not be addressed. Since my car is out of warranty I am on the hook for many thousands of dollars, not to mention the diminished value of a poorly built vehicle.
#11577761 |
Connecting rod bearing failed and caused engine failure. Car began inoperable on the highway. Honda has issued recalls on this exact failure but has failed to recall my vehicle. Honda needs to be held liable to investigate my vehicle. This is a rare failure that is ONLY caused my manufacturer defects. This is the third inquiry I am sending and no one has done anything to demand that Honda issues recalls for ALL affected vehicle for the manufacturing defect. Please do your part so I don't have to hire an attorney. Thank you

Message is showing in instrumental panel KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. I checked on line found Honda have found this problem with 2016 Honda Pilots. When I called Honda Woodbridge, VA dealer about it she (Customer Service agent) took my Vin and said no there is no recall. On line I found Honda Service Bulletin they do have recall. I am including Pic of vehicle and also Service Bulletin about it. Honda Dealers Should have this information.

Car engine started knocking a few days ago and yesterday the engine light came on and the car started loosing power even stalling at one point driving. Looks like a connecting rod bearing on bank 2 can be heard clearly. I understand a service bulletin just came out yesterday for this same issue on my year vehicle but I don't see the vin on the list and it should be added to list having the same exact problem. Thank you

The car just stopped while being driven in the freeway around December 2022. It was towed to the dealership and they said that the engine "seized." We wrote a letter to Honda and they said that it was our fault (car has very little miles- it's a family car). The engine light was never resolved even after engine was replaced. Honda then came out with a recall for 2016 Honda Pilot for engine seizing but they said my VIN did not qualify although this was the exact same issue. I tried reaching out with them to no avail. I am afraid to transport my children in this vehicle and I have already spend over 10k fixing it. It also feels unethical to sell the vehicle knowing it's defective. If possible, please look into the VIN's that are part of the recall since I am afraid there are a lot more...
