Radio/Screen/Back-up camera do not turn on or turn off randomly and unexpectedly when driving. Usually receive a crackling sound and a MOST off network message before black screen. Upon initial start up of vehicle, a driver sets car to reverse relying and expecting a functional view of rear camera on screen. This issue makes backing up safety features unreliable.
while driving the instrument panel went off for several seconds there is a recall for 2019 Passports for this issue but not my VIN
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH on the interstate, the instrument cluster briefly went blank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the instrument cluster and cable needed to be replaced. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000 (Back Over Prevention, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
My vehicle has experienced multiple dangerous incidents where it shuts down or shifts into neutral while driving. This has happened on highways, tunnels, busy on-ramps and main streets. The car loses power and requires restarting, which takes about 30 seconds. On a busy highway or street, this is enough time for a serious accident to occur if other vehicles cannot switch lanes on time. This has happened multiple times with my child in the car, and me being currently pregnant. The vehicle has never given me a warning prior. The issue appears to be related to the Auto start/stop system and/or electrical drivetrain controls. the vehicle is unsafe to operate because the driver can forget to disable auto start/stop and the car can suddenly lose power in traffic. There was also a separate incident (in between the multiple incidents above) where I was on the highway, my car accelerated, brakes...
Forward collision, Adaptive cruise control and all enhanced safety features related to the camera and front of vehicle sensor stopped working. Vehicle warning lights and messages do light up for every start. Only option has been to have a $2,500 repair bill for a 6 year old vehicle to install a new camera system by the dealer. This a well known manufacturer issue among owners. Infotainment system is losing network connections and completely going black. The system is only available for brief stretches after restarting the vehicle and will go black while driving. There is a known recall for the coaxial cable (MOST connection loss) but apparently my vehicle is not part of this recall. Again this is a well known manufacturer issue with this year and model vehicle. Appears to be a wiring harness issue or improper wiring installation by manufactuer.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the warning lights on the instrument panel were illuminated and blinking. The lights had to be manually turned off. The message that the camera was obstructed was displayed. The maintenance past due, road departure litigation, ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), and LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) were displayed. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000 (Back Over Prevention, Electrical System). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brakes and camera were faulty. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who informed the contact about replacing the battery and performing a scan. The battery was replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again, where it was diagnosed with a loss of communication with the cruise control, a...
First issue was I was in need of a transmission while only having the car for 1.5 years. I reached out to Honda corporate and I was unable to receive any help with goodwill. Secondly I am now experiencing issues with my alarm going off suddenly, and frequently. The dash board lights up and flickers. Upon doing research I have found that 2019 Honda passport has had major issues with transmissions, keyless modules controls and electronic issues. In addition my radio keeps going off and it says connection is lost. This has also been a very known and common issues upon doing research on the 2019 Honda passport There’s different dates for events. I will be able to email my invoice for my transmission
On multiple occasions Lost connection on screen display and scre goes black preventing me from using back up camera.
The Auto Idle stop, turned off the car at a busy intersection, I was able to restart the car and took it in to the dealer. They installed a new battery, which has been working for about a year, then yesterday the AIS caused the car to stop again at a stop light and again today when I was waiting to make a left turn. Each time it has stopped it has taken longer to get the car to restart. This is a very scary situation when driving in traffic with my grandchild in the car. It seems unlikely that I need another new battery. The car only has 55,000 miles. I will be taking the car in again, but doing my research on this issue I find it is a very big problem with this model of car, so I wanted to add my issues to the count, so...
Hello, I have put 3 batteries in this vehicle so far and it is a 2019 model year. In April, the car died while my wife was stopped at a light in the middle of town. I could not do anything...put it in gear..nothing...could not even open the door locks. I had to crawl into the back of the vehicle over the seats to get to the booster cable in very rear of the car. I was able to boost the battery and get it started after watching 100's of cars drive directly by me and around me while the car was stuck. It was a little dangerous. An automotive shop replaced the battery. the manufacture date on the battery is 2/25. My wife went the start the vehicle today...6-19-25 and the battery was dead again. There is something wrong here! I looked at the website for recalls and the...
[XXX] Start/Stop system failed when stopped in Starbucks drive thru. Unable to restart, or move vehicle. Honda Passport had to be towed. Problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer. Honda dealership deep charged battery and battery tested good? I was charged a Diagnostic fee for Starting & Charging Systems & Battery. Test name was GR8 diagnostic test by Honda. Vehicle was inspected by local Honda dealer. Diagnosed parasitic drain on battery? A new battery had been purchased 9/16/2024 @ a Honda dealership in Va. New battery is just 6 months old. Never had a problem with the new battery or Start/Stop system until [XXX] when failure occurred. There was never a warning lamp, message, or other symptoms prior to the failure. Original Start/Stop recall repair done 5/2/2023 at Honda dealership. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My Auto Start/Stop repeatedly fails to start after engaging during a traffic stop (stop sign, red light, etc.). The engine cuts off and will not start again, causing safety issues as the car is idle and “stalled” when traffic begins moving. Things an ongoing problem that I have reported to the dealer several times. The below questions ask for dates and mileage of incident, but this has been an ongoing incident for several thousand miles. I have completed the info using approximate dates and mileage of first of many occurrences.
Description: I have a concern that I will follow-up with a letter via USPS. Imagine driving your 2019 Honda Passport on an Interstate, Speed Limit is set at 70; your speed is 75; you're in the middle of the three lanes of travel; and your vehicle suddenly decelerates and every warning the vehicle is equipped with start giving alerts in rapid succession. This is what happened to me on [XXX] at approximately [XXX]. What is concerning is that this exact same thing happened April 2023 and I was told it was the Idle Control Sensor. The dealership that sold me the vehicle was gracious enough to let me bring it to them for repair, without charging the full cost of the part but, labor cost I incurred. When a consumer purchases a vehicle, the second most expensive purchase in one's lifetime, it is implied that outside of normal and routine...
Traveling up a hill of 5-degree incline. 20 MPH speed limit. Came to complete stop, pushed reverse button. Back over prevention camera did not activate. Did not depress gas pedal. Vehicle rolled backward 35 feet before coming to rest partially in traffic and partially in private driveway. Instrument panel indicated vehicle P for park throughout the entire event. After coming to rest: (partially in traffic) Vehicle would not shift out of park. Error messages on Instrument Panel stated: "Stop Driving When Safe. Transmission Problem. See Manual." Check Engine was not illuminated. Turned off car and back on. Same error message was still present. Gear selector buttons would not respond and vehicle remained in Park, partially stuck in traffic. Repeatedly attempted to get vehicle to shift out of park. Eventually the Battery Positive Terminal was removed and reapplied and tightened Vehicle started, error message no longer present. Vehicle shifted out of...
Rear camera is malfunctioning. The view is blurry and frequently distorts to a green saturation removing visibility to the rear of the vehicle. This is a major safety hazard as the visibility is unpredictable and is obstructs the critical view behind the vehicle. Previously there was no issue. The issue only started occurring after a recall replacement was performed in December ‘23 for a similar issue. Previous recall info: RECALL 23-047 FAKRA CABLE INSPECTION Cause: FAKRA CONNECTORS UPDATE Correction: FAKRA CONNECTORS UPDATE OP CODE # 0101T0 1.70 - The replacement from recall or camera is faulty and needs replacement. Honda is stating they will not take action without a diagnosis which they are stating will cost $200 to the consumer. Please help protect the consumer here as it appears Honda is well aware of the issue persisting beyond the previous recall and purposefully not taking action.
When engaging the accelerator after auto-stop the entire vehicle stalled. Nothing was displayed on the dash or media console, the vehicle cut off, no steering, and no acceleration. When attempting to restart the vehicle it failed multiple attempts until about 45-60 seconds later. Thankfully this occurred at a redlight, but it was a single lane and other drivers behind me were not pleased. This has happened twice now.
The rear view camera is all red and blurry..
Car will at times not start and require to be jump started. Battery has been replaced and the issue persist. The car will randomly say collision warning when no cars are on the road
The idle stop start stalled the suv at intersection while waiting at light. This has happened multiple times already over the last couple of months. The latest took several repeat attempts to get it started again
The vehicle was unable to restart after the auto idle stop engaged at a stoplight, shutting the engine off. Upon release of the brake, the engine did not restart and the car was left stranded for several hours in the middle of a large intersection putting the driver at risk. The car was unable to be restarted and stranded for over two hours until police were able to clear a safe path and have the car towed to the nearest service center. There were no warning indicators or service lights prior to this occurrence. The authorized Honda service center found that the battery was drained and the auto idle stop had engaged while the car battery was low, leaving the car stranded and unable to be restarted.
Since I purchased this car in 2020, I have regularly experienced my car stalling out because of the auto idle function. The car shuts off when I brake and then does not turn back on, leaving me stranded in traffic until I can manually shut off my car and turn it back on. This is a major safety hazard that Honda has yet to properly address. Honda had a recall to "fix" this, which was just a software update. This was conducted 5/12/2023 on my car. Unfortunately, today (5/20/2023) my car stalled out again at a traffic light due to the auto idle function. Honda needs to address this issue, and if they cannot, then they need to provide those with defective models a path to upgrade their car.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the fuel saving feature activated; however, the vehicle would not restart after releasing the brake pedal. The contact manually restarted the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,400.
This has been happening from the beginning of ownership. There was a recent recall but it DID NOT fix the problem. I come to a stop, and then start to go and my car stalls out for a second and then restart. Every time I took it in to the service center, they said they can't recreate it and there's nothing wrong. As it stalls, the "collision mitigation system" warning light comes on. I have almost been rear-ended many times and it's really scary. You can see all the complaints online for this same problem but Honda is not acknowledging the problem. Someone is going to get seriously hurt. The contact stated that Honda told them to get a video of the failure happening but the failure occurs unexpectantly and while driving.
On 01/24/2023 with IdleStop engaged car stalled on busy intersection during rush hour and couldn't be restarted. Since Honda vehicles don't have a shift interlock anymore we couldn't move vehicle since it automatically went into "Park". Car is currently at the dealer who is unable to do repairs due to lack of ECU modules.
With auto stop/start disabled as this feature regularly fails, stopped to turn left and car shifted itself into neutral, could not be shifted into drive or restarted for a few minutes despite multiple attempts. If car had auto stop start feature engaged, this often happens, which has been reported, but this time it happened without that feature on. Luckily we were turning from a parking lot so did not hold up traffic or have risk of being hit.
Vehicle fails to start intermittently after short stops. Needed jump start after it goes into accessory mode. Battery and charging system are good (12.6/14.1 volts). Battery is new, was replaced 10/2022.
On several occasions engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged. Car shifts itself into Neutral and cannot be restarted by pressing Start button. It required jump was required for the vehicle to restart once. Usual work around posted by Honda is to put car in Park and then attempt to press Start button. Crash was avoided once in heavy traffic.
At a stop light, the auto engine idle kicked in. When the light turned green, and I took my foot off the brake pedal, the engine did not stop. I put the car in park and tried to restart. It would not restart at all. I was there for at least 15 minutes trying to turn the car back on and off. It finally did start but caused lots of traffic and was dangerous for everyone. This should not be happening to a new car.
Several times, the car shuts off at stop lights or stop signs. It has a feature that is supposed to save gas and put it into low power mode. But sometimes, especially if I take my foot off the break and press on the gas too quickly, the car completely shuts off and goes into neutral. This is VERY dangerous. Once I was on a hill when this happened and the car began rolling down and I nearly hit another vehicle. I have seen hundreds of other such complaints on the Honda Pilot. This is it's cousin, the Honda Passport and likely has the same power failure. Honda needs to recall these immediately before someone gets hurt. (It may also be related to the distance calculator being incorrect on my car. It often says I have over 1,000 miles left on my single tank.) There is for sure something wrong.
The auto stop/start feature has on multiple occasions failed to restart once the foot is taken off of the brake. The Passport's engine will stall, and the vehicle goes into neutral. The engine is completely dead and will not immediately restart. This has happened multiple times in traffic and is a safety concern. I have had the Passport looked at by a Honda Dealership. They advise that there are no error codes and advised me to replace the battery, but could not guarantee that a new battery would eliminate the issue. I am concerned about my family driving this vehicle due to this issue.
With less than 1,000 miles this car had to go in multiple times for a radio electrical issue, floor harness, IP harness etc replaced. Now at 60,000 I’m getting transmission failure faults where my car will stall out and not engage. HUGE safety issue. Now I’m waiting 2 weeks to get into a dealership
When the auto engine idle is engaged (Which is the default setting), when you stop, the engine idle works as advertised, then after a few moments the car will totally shut off and place itself in neutral. After several failed attempts, the only way to restart it, is to press and hold the start button and holding the brake pedal. This cars maintenance has been completed on time and solely by the dealership. This is a very scary issue because it can cause serious harm to the passengers in the vehicle as well as other vehicles on the road. This will most definitely cause an accident. we were in stop and go traffic on the HIGHWAY in the fast lane and the whole car shut off and as traffic began to move, my car wouldn't go there was a moment of panic as I quickly tried to get the car...
I was in a stop and go situation at a stop light when I decided to turn the auto stop/start off. The car froze up on me in the middle of traffic. It turned off, could not turn it back on, the brakes locked up and a lot of lights turned on my dash. After a couple of minutes I was able to turn the car back on.
When the auto engine idle is engaged (Which is the default setting), when you stop, the engine idle works as advertised, then after a few moments the car will totally shut off and place itself in neutral. After several failed attempts, the only way to restart it, is to place the keyfob against the start button hold it there while pressing the start button and holding the brake pedal. This cars maintenance has been completed on time and solely by the purchasing dealership. A battery replacement finally in december of '21 put the problem at bay for approximately 8 months and here we go again. Honda is also not being honest with the dealerships, this is a known issue just check the blogs. The dealer is the one that went onto google and started researching the issue. As for an accident, it's only a matter of time before this causes...
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated the Auto START/STOP feature intermittently failed to operate as needed without warning. The contact stated that upon release of the brake pedal, the vehicle stalled, causing the contact to manually restart the vehicle. One night, this Auto START/STOP failure led to the contact being stuck in rush hour traffic when the vehicle ultimately would not turn back on. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact had the battery replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Problem with the Auto Start/Stop. Auto Start/Stop caused the car to completely shut off at a stoplight and the car would not restart. I tried applying the break and re-starting the car using the Start button, but the car did not respond. The car was completely inoperable for at least 15 minutes and left us stranded at a busy intersection. The auto start/stop will often shut down the car completely at stops and it will not restart automatically. There were no warnings prior to shut down. I've only had this car a few months and it has happened twice in two months. I am forced to turn the auto start/stop feature off every time I get in the car now.
my car has an automatic stop start. I came to a full stop at a red light and the engine automatically turned off. The light turned green and i depressed the gas pedal and nothing happened, in other words the engine did not turn on. within a few minutes, I could turn the engine back on although sitting stalled at a light on a high speed expressway was dangerous.
Auto Engine Idle has an inconsistent issue with not restarting. When at a full stop, the engine goes to neutral and does not restart. This has left me temporarily stranded while I attempt a full restart. The dealer claims to not being able to duplicate the issue. The battery has consistently tested fine. I now manually shut off this option before driving.
The vehicle stalls after the auto-shutoff/idle is engaged. As I lift my foot off the break pedal to disengage it, the car shuts off and indicates that it has been placed in Park mode. I then have to turn the vehicle back on. It can take up to 25-30 seconds. I only ever have issues restarting the vehicle after it stalls as a result of the auto-shutoff being engaged.
3x in the last 6months my Passport has failed to start after the auto stop at idle has engaged. The dealership said the battery is fine and one technician just said “disable the feature “. Today when adaptive cruise control was engaged, the car increased in speed from the set 72 to over 80mph. I also emailed Honda corp and their response was to see a dealer and did not acknowledge if the auto stop/start issue was known for other vehicles.
I stopped at red-light and the auto stop idle was engaged. Once the light changed, and I removed my foot from the brake to disengage the auto idle, unexpectedly the gear just shifted to Neutral . I then had put it in park , and press the ignition start button . It took a couple times before restarting. I had to endure other drivers honking and yelling at me, because I was the 1st car at the stop light. This has happened at least 8-10 times in the past 4 months. After having my vehicle for 3 days, the dealer said they couldn't find the problem . Wih road rage what it is in these times, something like that could spark alot of frustration in other drivers. I have read blogs about other honda passport owners having the same issue. HONDA REALLY NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS...
Popping crackling noise from dashboard Screen went blank Sporadic occurrences when driving with radio On and Off Dealer says NO CODES Found?
Frequent shutdown of center display panel to a black screen with "MOST Network Failure" message posted. System repeatedly tries to reboot. Sometimes requires a restart to recover.
My Collision Mitigation Braking System activates when there is no reason to do so. I took it to my dealer and they said it is because there is dirt on the car logo that is in front of the radar so they cleaned it. It was not dirty in my opinion. When I dove it again with a very clean logo the system flashed BREAK again and shook the steering wheel. I know I can turn this “feature” off by pressing a button on the dash board but I have to do that every time I start the car - it malfunctions regularly. In addition to be inconvenient it is distracting and dangerous do deal with when driving if I forget to turn it off. If I loan my car to someone It is embarrassing and difficult to explain to them how to handle it.
On two separate occasions the vehicle has not started in extreme cold. First Occasion: February 7, 2021, attempted to remote start the vehicle, but the vehicle would not start. Attempted to start the vehicle from inside, but would not start. Called AAA roadside assistance to have the vehicle jump started and the vehicle still would not start. Second Occasion: Attempted to start the vehicle and it would not start. Attempted to use a roadside battery pack to jump the vehicle, but would not start. Hooked the battery up to a truck for 45 minutes, while the truck was running, and attempted to start the vehicle several times, but the vehicle never started. Called Honda roadside assistance and was informed that we would need to wait up to two hours for a tow truck. We waited 5 hours before the tow truck arrived. While waiting I called Dahl Honda of Onalaska...
EVERYTIME I START MY CAR IT SAYS MY HOOD IS OPEN BUT IT IS NOT, I HAVE TO GET OUT AND OPEN AND CLOSE MY HOOD. MY FANS WON'T RUN AND AC OR HEAT WON'T WORK IF THIS ERROR OCCURS.
NOTED THAT THE DASHBOARD BLANKED OUT MOMENTARILY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THE SPEEDOMETER CAME BACK, FIRST, FOLLOWED BY THE REMAINING DASHBOARD ITEMS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE (RECALL) HAD BEEN COMPLETED 3 WEEKS PREVIOUSLY AND APPROXIMATELY 1200 MILES PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE BEFORE THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR RECHECK BUT THEY DID NOT NOTE ANY SOFTWARE ERROR CODES.
I WENT TO THE STORE AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE. I NOTICED A CRACKLING SOUND WHILE TALKING ON BLUETOOTH. PARKED THE VEHICLE TO GO SHOPPING. ONCE I RETURNED THE INFOTAINMENT/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER COMPLETELY WENT DARK. INFOTAINMENT SCREEN NEVER POWERED ON. WAS UNABLE TO TURN SCREEN ON. TURNED VEHICLE ON AND OFF WITH NO SUCCESS. DROVE HOME WITH EVERYTHING COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM STARTED WORKING THE FOLLOWING DAY.
WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION I'VE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM BRAKING THE VEHICLE WHEN A VEHICLE IS COMING TOWARD ME IN THE OPPOSITE LANE (ONCOMING TRAFFIC). THIS OCCURS WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I'VE TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE ISSUE WAS NOT REPLICATED. IT DOES OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. I'VE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM TOO. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM FREEZES AND BECOMES INOPERABLE. IT DOES NOT CORRECT UNTIL VEHICLE IS PARKED, TURNED OFF, DRIVER DOOR OPENED, THEN VEHICLE RESTARTED. LASTLY, THE AUTO IDLE FEATURES CONSISTENTLY DOES NOT ENGAGE. I HAVE THE SYSTEM RANDOMLY ENGAGE WHEN I'M PARKING MY VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE. AGAIN, ALL OF THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALER PROVIDING SERVICE AND REMAIN UNRESOLVED SINCE THEY CAN NOT BE DUPLICATED AT SERVICE APPOINTMENT.
INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM FAILS, SCREEN GOES BLANK, BACKUP CAMERA AND SPEEDOMETER GOES BLANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, DEALER SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED TWO WEEKS AGO BUT PROBLEMS PERSIST.
