The contact owned a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and shuddered. Additionally, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact restarted and parked the vehicle at the residence. An independent mechanic went to the residence and diagnosed the vehicle with a failed transmission. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ONCE THE ENGINE REACHES OPERATING TEMPERATURE THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE AND SHIFT GEARS. I MASH THE GAS PEDAL AND THE RPM GAUGE GOES UP BUT THE VEHICLE DOESN'T MOVE. I LET THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COOL DOWN AND SOMETIMES IT WILL OPERATE PROPERLY AGAIN UNTIL EVERYTHING WARMS UP. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IM SITTING AT A LIGHT OR IN ACTUAL MOTION GOING DOWN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE CEASES TO CONTINUE MOVING. I HAVE BEEN GOING 60 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR LOSES ALL MOVEMENT BUT THE CAR IS STILL REVING UP AND I CAN CHANGE GEARS BUT IT STOPS ME DEAD IN MY TRACKS. I CALLED THE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TELL ME ITS A VERY COMMON ISSUE BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE PINPOINTED

WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT FEELS LIKE MY TRANSMISSION IS DOWNSHIFTING LIKE A MANUAL. THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN IM SLOWING DOWN / COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. *TR
VEHICLE HAS A APPROXIMATELY 140,000 MI. WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH.TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKUP MALFUNCTIONED AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL. HAD TO COAST ACROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO EXIT. WHEN SPEED PERMITTED SHIFT DOWN TO WND AND QSTACKS GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP INTO A PARKIN* LOT. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION FACILITY. PULLED THE TRANSMISSION DIP STICK AND SMELLED THE FLUID WHICH EMITTED A VERY PUNGENT SMELL. THE FLUID WAS NOT BLACK. THE FLUID HAD BEEN CHANGED 15- 20,000 MI EARLIER. WHEN TALKING TO MECHANIC HE TOLD ME ALMOST EXACTLY HOW MANY M8LES HE THOUGHT THE CAR HAD BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN SO MANY HONDA'S WITH EXACTLY THIS SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT HONDA DID NOT DESIGN THIS TRANSMISSION PROPERLY TO LAST WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE AND FLUID CHANGES.
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING FREEZING UP ON SLOW TURNS AND THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH IS STUCK MAKING THE CAR TRANSMISSION HEAT UP AND QUIT UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN, I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD 4X FOR THIS. ONCE WITH MY 97 YR OLD BROTHER IN LAW AND 79 YR OLD SISTER.THEY WANT $4000 TO FIX THIS. THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CABLE BROKE ALSO.I HAD THE RUN FLAT PAX TIRES ON IT WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED, I WAS NOT TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE AT LEAST 100 TO 200 MILES TO GET THEM CHANGED OUT AS THEY NEED A SPECIAL MACHINE TO FIX THEM. I HAD TO BUY NEW RIMS AND TIRES FOR $1500. I HAVE 125,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND A HONDA TO ANYONE.

FOR STARTERS I HAD TRANSMISSION REBUIT AND ITS NEEDS REPLACED AGAIN THIS IS AT 120000 MILES THEN AT 135000 MILES. I HAVENT GOT IT REPLACED YET, BUT MY MECHANIC GAVE ME THE WARNING. ALSO SAID ALL ODYSSEYS TRANSMISSIONS FAIL.LIKE ITS A ONGOING PROBLEM. NUMBER 2. MY PASSENGERFRONT DOOR GETS STUCK AND YOU CANT OPEN OT EVEN THOUGH ITS UNLOCKED. 3..THE MIDDLE SEAT SECOND ROW THE SMALL SEAT THAT UNLATCHES, UNLATCHES WHILE DRIVING.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 100,065 MILES. ORIGINAL OWNER WITH ALL SERVICE CHECKS DONE AT DEALER. RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A FAR TOO COMMON PROBLEM IN HONDA ODYSSEYS. COST TO REPAIR OVER $4,000. FEEL THE DEAL SHOULD REPLACE FOR FREE OR SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED RATE.
I DROVE MY HONDA MINIVAN FOR 10 YEARS AND ONE DAY I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT WORK AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED SO FAST THAT IT HIT THE WALL AND SET OFF THE AIR BAG. I BOUGHT MY 06 ODYSSEY TOURING EDITION IN 2015. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND IT ONLY HAD 115,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT FIRST AND THEN SOON AFTER STARTED HAVING A SHUTTERING PROBLEM AROUND 45 MPH. I HAD A SATURN VUE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD THE SAME MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION AS MY HONDA. CHEVROLET DID A RECALL ON IT I BROUGHT IT IN THE REPROGRAMMED AND RECALIBRATED IT NO PROBLEMS AFTER THAT. SO WHEN MY HONDA STARTED I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THEY SAID NOT ON MY VIN. SO I ASKED HOW MUCH TO REPROGRAM AND RECALIBRATE AND THE TOLD ME THAT IF IT DOES NOT HAVE A NEW UPDATE THEN THEY COULD NOT DO IT (WHICH I KNOW IS BULL SINCE WE OWN A MECHANIC SHOP AND DEAL WITH THINGS LIKE THIS ALL THE...

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,400.

I TOOK MY VAN IN TO WILDE HONDA ON 9/17/14 FOR A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP NODULE. THE DAY I PICKED IT UP, I NOTICED A VERY LOUD SOUND FROM MY ENGINE. I HAD A FRIEND DRIVE THE CAR THE AFTERNOON OF 9/26/14 TO SEE IF HE COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. WHEN HE GOT IN TO DRIVE IT, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, MY D LIGHT WAS BLINKING AND THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID SMELLS LIKE IT IS BURNING. MY ODYSSEY NEEDS A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL, AND WILL COST MORE THAN $3,000.00. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT JAPANESE VEHICLES ARE DURABLE, RELIABLE, AND LONG-LASTING, WITH TOYOTA BEING ONE OF THE BEST, BUT HONDA BEING THE BEST OF THE BEST. NOW, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA. I AM HOPING FOR HONDA TO RECALL THE TRANSMISSION FOR THE ODYSSEY. I HAVE 4 FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR OWN ODYSSEYS. I WAS BACKING UP IN MY HONDA WHEN I STOPPED TO SEE IF I WAS GOING TO HIT SOMETHING. I NOTICED AN OIL LEAK ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC HE FOUND THAT THE SPOOL VALVE IS LEAKING. THE HONDA DEALER INFORMED US THAT THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE. ON MY WAY TO WORK ON JANUARY 14, 2014, AS I WAS GETTING UP TO SPEED (FROM 0 TO 20), THE ENGINE REVVED AROUND 2000 RPM, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE 2ND GEAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED AN INTERNAL ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. I HAD TO HAVE THE VAN TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP IN VERMONT TO GET FIXED. THE SHOP HAD TO DO A TRANSMISSION REBUILD. THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT COST ME THREE THOUSAND AND FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE DOLLARS ($3463.00). I SPOKE WITH THE OWNER OF THE AUTO SHOP AND HE ADVISED ME THAT HONDA ODYSSEY'S ARE KNOWN TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I ALSO VERIFIED THIS INFORMATION ON-LINE. *TR
DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. MY VAN SUDDENLY GAVE A LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND AND THE CABIN FILLED UP WITH SMOKE AND I COULD NOT BREATHE OR SEE PROPERLY. MY ODYSSEY LOST POWER/WOULDN'T ACCELERATE/WOULDN'T SHIFT AS WE APPROACHED THE TOP OF A 7% GRADE. WE PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED FLUIDS ETC.. EVERYTHING WAS FINE. WE TRIED TO GET GOING AGAIN AND THE VAN WOULDN'T GO. WE SAT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND TRIED AGAIN, AND THE VAN GOT GOING AGAIN PERFECTLY FINE. WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO HONDA WHEN IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN. HONDA DIAGNOSED IT WITH A BAD TRANSMISSION/TORQUE CONVERTER. THE ATF FLUID WAS BURNT (MY ODYSSEY HAS THE ATF FLUID COOLER TOO). THE TECH SAID THE VCM (ECO MODE, VARIABLE CYLINDER MANAGEMENT) INCREASES THE LOAD/STRESS ON THE VEHICLE AND IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR OF THE BREAK DOWN. MY ODYSSEY HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AT HONDA Y HONDA SPECS/RECOMMENDATIONS. I HAD NO PREVIOUS INDICATION MY TRANS WAS GOING OUT (NO GEAR SLIPPING ANYTHING. IT DROVE FINE UP UNTIL IT BROKE DOWN) I CALLED...
THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE BECAUSE OF AN INHERENT DESIGN PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION. BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP STOPS WORKING CORRECTLY INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, THE PRESSURE IS TOO LOW AND THE TRANSMISSION GRINDS ITSELF UP. THE CAR WILL SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND STOP MOVING. THERE IS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE ABOUT IT IN PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $4000 OR MORE. BASED ON A REPORT TODAY THAT HONDA IS RECALLING 2003/2004 HONDA ODYSSEY WHERE THE ISSUE INVOLVES THE IGNITION INTERLOCK, A DEVICE INTENDED TO ENSURE THAT THE KEY CAN ONLY BE REMOVED WHEN A VEHICLE IS FIRMLY SHIFTED INTO PARK. I HAVE A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AND HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE IN 2010 WHERE AFTER PARKING AND REMOVING MY KEYS AND I GOT DOWN, THE VAN MOVED BACKWARDS AND THE MY FRONT DOOR HIT ANOTHER CAR IN THE PARKING LOT DAMAGING BOTH CARS, AND I HAD TO FILE A CLAIM WITH UNITRIN DIRECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87.039.

TRAVELLING ON VACTION ON FREEWAY AT 100KM ( 60 MPH ) WHEN MY TRANSMISSION WENT ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY. SMOKE FROM UNDER HOOD, ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP AND TACOMETER REVED UP BASCIALLY ENOUGH FUNCTION TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF FREEWAY. WE HAD TOWED TO HONDA WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE THAT I HAVENT EVEN OWNED FOR 5YRS AT THE TIME AND ONLY 120000KM (75000MILES) THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND WOULD COST ME $5000 TO REPAIR. WE HAD OUR VAN TOWED BACK TO OUR LOCAL DEALER (2HRS AWAY AND ACROSS US BOARDER BACK TO CANADA) WHERE THEY CHARGED US $3700 DO TO US KEEPING UP WITH ALL SERVICES.
