MY ODYSSEY'S MOTOR MOUNT FAILED LAST YEAR BEFORE I HIT 100,000. I WAS RECENTLY TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE OTHER THREE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, AND HONDA SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLES FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT MY FRONT ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT HAS GONE BAD. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT REPLACED HOWEVER THEY ARE CHARGING MY $800.00 FOR IT. AFTER READING THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT HONDA 2005'S AND ABOVE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEM BREAKING MORE OFTEN THEN WHAT THEY SHOULD BE SINCE THE ACTUAL UNIT IS TUCKED UP RIGHT NEAR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE RUBBER WEARS OUT QUICKLY. I HAVE NEVER EVER EXPERIENCED A CAR WHERE YOU HAD TO REPLACE THE MOUNT UNDER 100K MILES. *TR
OUR VAN HAS TWO BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS. MOST OF OUR CAR'S MILEAGE IS HIGHWAY AND EASY DRIVING. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO GOOD REASON FOR WHY THEY ARE BROKEN. JUDGING FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF OTHERS ON-LINE, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE DESIGN IS POOR AND THE COST TO REPAIR THEM (REPLACE) IS EXTREMELY HIGH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,026.

FAILURE OF EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELDS COULD CAUSE VEHICLE FIRE. CONSUMER HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE SAFETY SHIELDS ARE NO LONGER IN PLACE. DEALER INDICATED EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELDS WERE LOOSE AND MISSING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. DEALER INDICATED FAILURE TO REPLACE COULD RESULT IN MELTING OF INSULATION ON ELECTRICAL WIRES. I FEEL THE HEAT SHIELDS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED USING STAINLESS STEEL TO PREVENT CORROSION AND LOSS OF THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. AT $615 TO REPLACE, IT IS UNLIKELY MANY PEOPLE WILL HAVE THIS WORK PERFORMED, ESPECIALLY AS THE VEHICLE AGES. THERE ARE NORMAL/EXPECTED SAFETY FEATURES THAT CAR OWNERS EXPECT TO REPLACE (TIRES, WIPER BLADES AND BULBS). THE CONSUMER HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THE SAFETY SHIELDS HAVE FALLEN FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS, I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE HONDA ODYSSEY THAT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THE VARIABLE CYLINDER ENGINE, WHICH CUTS OUT 2 CYLINDERS WHEN THEY ARE NOT NEEDED AND THUS SAVES GAS MILEAGE ON THESE CARS. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT ON THESE CARS WAS DESIGNED TO HELP DAMPEN ANY VIBRATION CAUSED WHEN THE 2 CYLINDERS WERE NOT IN USE AND HAS BEEN WEARING OUT BEFORE ITS REGULAR LIFE (SOME AT 50,000 MILES). MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSY MINIVAN HAS HAD ALL 4 MOTOR MOUNTS FAIL; I AM INFORMED THAT HIS COULD RESULT IN IN A HAZARDOUS CONDITION, INCLUDING A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. A/C SWITCH BECOMES HARD TO PRESS IN WINTER/FALL DRIVING CONDITIONS. IN SUMMER NO ISSUE AT ALL. FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. LOCAL FIRE INSPECTOR INVESTIGATED AND ADVISE THE SOURCE OF IGNITION WAS IN THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN THE AREA OF THE REAR A/C UNIT AND PBC. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY RESPONDED THAT "IF YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY DOES NOT SUBROGATE, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO." THE RECENT SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE WAS AN OIL CHANGE AND NEW TIRES APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH PRIOR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MORE THAN FIVE TIMES, TWICE WHILE MAKING A TURN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. HE HAD AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,000. UPDATED 03/04/09. *LJ THE FUEL PUMP RELAY WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 03/04/09. *JB
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER DAMAGED BY ROAD DEBRIS AND REQUIRED REPLACING THE CONDENSER. DEALER STATED DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY ROAD HAZARD/DEBRIS AND SO WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE CONDENSER IS VERY EXPOSED ON FRONT BOTTOM OF VEHICLE WITH NO PROTECTION FROM FLYING DEBRIS. SIMILAR EVENT HAS OCCURRED TO MANY OWNERS OF 2006 ODYSSEYS. HONDA SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE/RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE A PRODUCT TO PROTECT THE CONDENSER ON THIS MODEL. THE 2008 ODYSSEY COMES WITH A GRILL COVERING THE CONDENSER. SO IT IS OBVIOUS THEY ARE AWARE OF THE OLD BAD DESIGN. *TR
LESS THAN 48K MILES ON OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY AND THE CRANK SHAFT HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND A MOTOR MOUNT. THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS OVER $1,000. THESE TYPES OF FAILURES SHOULD NOT BE SEEN ON A VEHICLE THIS NEW. HONDA JUST SAYS "SORRY." *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY PURCHASE NEW - APPROX. 20,000 MILES AT TIME - $600 TO REPLACE AIR CONDENSER. SOMETHING FLEW UP FROM THE ROAD AND PUT A HOLE IN MY AIR CONDENSER. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY COMMENTED THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND THE GRILL DID NOT PROPERLY PROTECT THE CONDENSER BUT THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. DEALER COST FOR REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN $800. I PAID A LOCAL MECHANIC $600. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY FOR ONE YEAR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE REFRIGERANT LEAKED OUT DUE TO A SMALL HOLE IN THE CONDENSER COIL. THE HOLE CAME FROM A SMALL ROCK OR OTHER OBJECT THAT WAS KICKED UP WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE COIL IS UP FRONT, BELOW THE FRONT LICENSE PLATE, AND FULLY EXPOSED TO ROAD HAZARDS. THE DESIGN DEFECT HAS CAUSED PROBLEMS FOR HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION ON VARIOUS WEB SITES. THE DEALER ADVISED IT WILL COST $700 TO REPAIR AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SUGGESTED I CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH AMERICAN HONDA (CASE# N012007-08-2400679) BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THE DEALERS SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMS TO HAVE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AS WELL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED. *TR
PURCHASED HONDA ODYSSEY FROM LEITH HONDA, RALEIGH, NC JUNE 2006. FROM THE BEGINNING, EXPERIENCED A VIBRATION (MOTOR) AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM WHEN UNDER LOAD, AT ANY SPEED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM INDICATED IN THE COMPUTER AND THAT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.(PREVIOUSLY REPORTED 12/26/06) *JB
