I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey. About 6 months ago the drivers side sliding door fell off the tracks. This happened while we were trying to close the door but it would not slide at all. We were out at a restaurant and it was imperative that the door had to be shut because it was not safe to drive in that condition. We were able to somewhat put it back on but it can not be used at all at this time. When the door fell off, it gouged the side of the van, damaged the gas filler door, and the rear door is hard to close. THE DOOR WAS NOT OPEINING PROPERLY SO I WHENT TO OPEN MANUALLY ANTHE HEAVY DOOR CAME OFF THE VAN SCRACHED THE HELL OUT OF MY VAN AND HURT ME TRYING TO HOLD IT AS NOT TO SCRACH THE VAN I WAS ALONE AND THERE WAS NO ONE TO HELP ME THIS IS VERY DANGERIOUS AND IVE READ IT HAPPENS OFTEN I CAN NO LONGER USE THE DOOR AS IT KEEPS HAPPINING
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. MY DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR FELL OFF AND WAS HANGING BY THE CABLE USED TO SHUT IT. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED TO ME ON BOTH OCCASIONS AS THE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE STATING THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM. I AM FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF ONE SAID PERSON TO GET SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT
THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE LATCH EVEN THOUGH UNLOCKED AS THE DOOR LOCK KNOB WAS UP. THIS PROBLEM WAS OBSERVED ABOUT MID DECEMBER 2019. TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER, SOUTH TACOMA HONDA, AND THEY COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR EITHER. THEY SAID THE INTERIOR PANEL WOULD NEED TO BE DESTROYED TO ACCESS THE MECHANISMS AND REPAIR. HAD THE REPAIR DONE BY SOUTH TACOMA HONDA WHO REPLACED THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL BECAUSE THEY HAD TO TEAR IT OUT, LATCH AND ACTUATOR FOR $1,092.56. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHY THE ACTUATOR AND LATCH FAILED. I'M CONCERNED THIS COULD OCCUR WITH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR TOO. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE DOOR(S) WON'T OPEN.

THE PAINT IS CHIPPED OFF THE CAR SLOWLY , AND THE ELECTRONIC PART OF THE CAR ACTING WEIRD, THE DAISY DOOR SOME TIMES WORK AUTOMATICALLY AND SOME TIMES NOT
SLIDE DOOR CAME OFF IT'S TRACK AND FELL OFF COMPLETELY. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LEFT OUR FAMILY STRANDED. WE WERE STATIONARY AND SIMPLY OPENING THE DOOR TO LEAVE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY HOOD FLEW UP AND SHATTERED MY WINDSHIELD. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE HOOD LATCH MECHANISM HAD SCREWS MISSING AND ONE SCREW VERY LOOSE LEFT IN PLACE. THE HOOD LATCH MECHANISM FREELY MOVED AROUND WHICH IS APPARENTLY HOW THE HOOD BECAME UNLATCHED AND BROKE THE WINDSHIELD. ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 50MPH ON THE MARQUETTE INTERCHANGE THIS CREATED AN UNSAFE CONDITION BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO SEE ANYTHING ONCE THE HOOD WAS UP AND HAD TO BRAKE IMMEDIATELY TO KEEP FROM CRASHING INTO ANYTHING POSSIBLY IN FRONT OF ME. THIS ALSO COULD HAVE CAUSED SOMEONE ELSE TO CRASH INTO ME. I ALSO COULDN'T SEE DUE TO THE HOOD. 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY '-THE SLIDING DOORS FELL OFF !!!!!!. I RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED A NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOORS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR NEWER MODELS AND THEY TOO HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES. THE PROBLEMS RANGE FROM A GRINDING NOISE , AUTO DOORS NOT OPENING COMPLETELY THAN CLOSING. TO THE BACK OF THE DOOR SLIGHTLY OPENING THEN THE BEEPING INDICATOR IS CONSTANTLY ON WHILE DRIVING. THE BATTERY IS BEING DRAINED BECAUSE THE DOORS NEVER CLOSE COMPLETELY. THE CENTER ROLLERS ARE CHEAP PLASTIC WHICH I BELIEVE CAUSES THE GRINDING NOISE. ONCE THEY WEAR OUT IT GETS WORSE. THESE ARE NOT SOME ISOLATED COMPLAINTS!! THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHERS WITH EVERY YEAR OF THE ODYSSEY THAT HAVE THESE ISSUES !! AND NOW I FINALLY SEE A RECALL. ALL THESES ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED DURING DIFFERENT TIMES. SOME WHILE STATIONARY. PASSENGER SLIDING REAR DOOR FELL OFF TRACK AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS CLOSING BOTH AUTOMATICALLY AND MANUALLY. PLASTIC ROLLERS SEEM TO HAVE FALLEN APART. DRIVERS SLIDING DOOR MAKES WEIRD NOISES & DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY IN EITHER AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE DOOR FELL OFF THE TRACK & WAS HANGING BY THE CABLE.
WE WERE OUT IF TOWN WHEN OUR VAN'S DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULDN'T CLOSE AND IT CAME OFF THE TRACK AND I CAUGHT IT LUCKILY. WE HAD TO RIG IT UP AND DRIVE IT HOME. ONLY TO FIND OUT IT'S A COMMON ISSUE.

1) I HAVE OCCASIONAL "CHECK AIRBAGS" MESSAGE POPPING UP ON THE DASHBOARD, WHICH DISAPPEAR AFTER TURNING OFF/BACK ON. IT MAY HAPPEN WHILE I AM RIDING OR WHEN SETTING THE GEAR TO PARK AND UNPLUGGING THE SEATBELT. CONSUMER REPORTS SHOWS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL DECLARED ON AIRBAGS BACK ON AUGUST 1, 2005 SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON MAY, 2005. AMERICAN HONDA SAID THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON AIRBAGS. I WOULD STILL DRIVE THIS CAR AND BY THAT REASON DECIDED CONTACT NHTDS. 2) RUST ON THE BODY OF THE CAR ABOVE THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL IS GETTING DEEPER. I HAVE SEEN EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT RUSTED ON OTHER ODYSSEYS MADE IN 2005 OR LATER, WHEN DRIVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO OPEN AND CLOSE, AND FELL OFF THE TRACK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,577.
WHILE STATIONARY, LIGHT APPEARS ON DASHBOARD INDICATING PROBLEM WITH PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN OR CLOSE USING ANY METHOD. MESSAGE STAYS ON DASHBOARD PREVENTING ME FROM SEEING OTHER IMPORTANT MESSAGES UNTIL A RESET IS DONE, I RESET BY REMOVING A FUSE, TURNING THE KEY TWICE WITHOUT TURNING THE CAR ON AND PUTTING THE FUSE BACK IN. THAT'S A TEMPORARY FIX BECAUSE THE PROBLEM RETURNS AFTER OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR A COUPLE OF TIMES. MANY HONDA OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO HONDA AND INDICATED ONLINE THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH INVOLVED COSTLY REPAIRS THAT SOMETIMES DOESN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AND HAS HAPPENED TO ENOUGH OWNERS OF HONDA MINIVANS THAT A RECALL IS NECESSARY.

WE HAVE OWNED OUT DARK BLUE 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS. RECENTLY, I AM FINDING THAT THE PAINT ALONG THE ROOF AND SIDE/FRONT TRIM PANELS IS CHIPPING AWAY. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO SAND SOME OF THE BED SPOTS AND PAINT /PROTECT AGAIN, BUT IT IS NO USE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WITH THE BASE LAYER BELOW THE BLUE PAINT. I HAVE SEEN WHERE THIS WAS IDENTIFIED, BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO GO FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS DEFECT THE SECOND AREA OF CONCERN IS IN THE WIRING FOR THE RADIO AND TEMPERATURE CONTROL. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOOSE WIRE OR CONNECTION BEHIND THE PANELS. THE BACK-LIGHTS FOR THE RADIO AND TEMPERATURE CONTROL WILL TURN ON OR OFF WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATION AS TO WHY. THE SYSTEMS THEMSELVES WORK FINE, IT'S ONLY THE VISIBLE LIGHTS THAT FLICKER, OR TURN OFF AND ON WITH NO...
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR COMPLETELY LOCKED IN THE OPEN POSITION SATURDAY EVENING WHILE OUT WITH MY GRANDKIDS. MY DAUGHTER'S AND I HAD TO BREAK THE DOOR OFF JUST TO GET HOME IN THE DARK BY SECURING THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR WITH THE SEATBELT LEAVING ONE GRANDCHILD CAR SEAT UNSECURED. NOW THE VAN IS PARKED WITH THE DOOR AS IS IN THE RAIN. I CAN'T DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT TOWED THERE MUCH LESS PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. SAFETY IS A SERIOUS ISSUE DRIVING WITHOUT A SECURE DOOR.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR CLOSES, LATCHES AND THEN 5 SECONDS LATER UNLATCHES ITSELF ELECTRONICALLY. THE DOOR REFUSES TO CLOSE COMPLETELY AND CAN EASILY OPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION ESPECIALLY IF PASSENGERS ARE IN THE SECOND SEATING ROW. THIS HAPPENED BY ITSELF OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE - I CANNOT PIN AN EXACT ACTION THAT MADE THIS OCCUR OTHER THAN REPEATED USAGE. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE DOOR FROM REOPENING, I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE (#7) THAT CONTROLS THE POWER SLIDING DOORS. NOW ONLY THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR IS USED AND MUST BE OPERATED MANUALLY. ALSO REMOTE POWER LOCKS HAVE BEEN DISABLED BECAUSE OF REMOVAL OF THE FUSE. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY VIBRATES, ESPECIALLY AROUND 35-45 MPH. HONDA TOLD US THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS HAVE BROKEN AND THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THEY ARE NOT A CHEAP FIX. ENGINE MOUNTS, THE LAST THING THAT YOU WOULD THINK WOULD GO OUT ON A VEHICLE! YET, WHEN YOU GO ONLINE, THIS APPARENTLY SEEMS TO BE A MASSIVE PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS. HONDA HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR ENGINE MOUNTS BRAKING AND THIS SEEMS TO BE OK WITH THEM. THIS IS NOT OK. THEY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAILURE. WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROUGH HAVING TO REPLACE MANY OTHER FAILURES FROM HONDA THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, INCLUDING REPLACING THE FUEL CAP BEFORE THEY RECALLED IT. WE WILL NO LONGER BE PURCHASING HONDA VEHICLES.

ON NOVEMBER 2015 WE WERE TRAVELING BACK FROM VACATION. AS WE STOPPED FOR A BATHROOM BREAK WE OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE BACK. . IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS TO GET THE DOOR BACK ON TRACK IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE SHUT. THE DOOR THEN DID NOT OPEN, CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY I COULD BOT USE THE DOOR TO GET MY CHILDREN OUT. THE END OF FEBRUARY 2016, WHILE DROPPING THE CHILDREN OFF AT A BABYSITTER, THE DRIVER REAR PASSENGER DOOR OPENED AND AGAIN WOULD NOT CLOSE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP WHERE I HAD TO REPLACE THE CABLE, THE MOTOR AND OTHER COMPONENTS. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE.

AROUND 10:30 AM ON WEDNESDAY, 1/13/16, DRIVER-SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD KEEP OPENING UP "COMPLETELY VOLUNTARILY" WHEN THE VEHICLE (2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX) WAS IN MOTION AND BEING OPERATED ON A LOCAL FREEWAY. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE THE DOOR EITHER USING THE REMOTE/AUTOMATIC DOOR-CLOSING SWITCH BY THE STEERING WHEEL OR MANUALLY (UPON STOPPING THE VEHICLE ON THE ROADSIDE) WOULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE SLIDING DOOR KEPT OPENING UP "VOLUNTARILY" ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PUT BACK IN MOTION / DRIVE MODE (ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE). THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN BACK HOME, ITS NORMAL PARKING LOCATION, WITH THE SLIDING DOOR OPEN DURING THE DRIVE (APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES FROM HOME).
HONDA'S HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH PAINT PEELING ON BLUE CARS HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BY TWO YEARS FOR MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY I WAS NOT AWARE THAT HONDA WAS COVERING THE PAINT ISSUE I WAS NOT AWARE THAT HONDA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY I AM FAIRLY SURE THAT THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM WAS AWARE THAT I PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT POTENTIALLY HAD A PAINT ISSUE AND THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HONDA OF LISLE (ILLINOIS) SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE PROACTIVE IN SEEKING OUT AND COVERING THIS ISSUE
WAS PARKED AT GROCERY STORE WHEN A CABLE SNAPPED ON OUR DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR. POWER WAS LOST TO THE DOOR AND UPON ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE MANUALLY THE DOOR FELL OFF AND COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY INJURED SOMEONE AS THE BACK OF THE DOORS CORNER HIT THE GROUND WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CRUSH IF NOT SEVER A FOOT. THIS LEFT OUR VEHICLE DISABLED AND LEFT US STRANDED.

ON THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2015 WHILE OPENING IT THE ENTIRE DOOR FELL OFF AND SMASHED MY FOOT. BRUISING AND SWELLING ON MY BIG TOE BUT NOTHING TO GO TO ER OVER. ICED IT AND STILL HURTING A FEW DAYS LATER. CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. MY RESPONSIBILITY. OUT OF WARRANTY. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. DOORS FALLING OFF THEIR VANS! SEEMS RIDICULOUS AND TIME FOR A RECALL. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAID THAT IT WAS MY CAR AND THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR IT. I SAID THAT COINCIDENTALLY I JUST HAD MY VAN IN FOR A RECALL (FUEL PUMP - WAS SMELLING GAS WHILE DRIVING IT) SO THAT'S NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. SOME THINGS THEY DO...

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCIDENT, DENTS, OR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT IMPACT THE FUNCTION OF THE DOORS. SINCE THEN, BOTH PASSENGER AUTO SLIDING DOORS NOW HAVE TROUBLE CLOSING, AND WILL OFTEN CLOSE ON A PASSENGER, WITH THE PASSENGER'S BODY BEING THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES THE DOOR STOP CLOSING. SUMMARY: BOTH SLIDING DOORS EITHER DO NOT CLOSE PROPERLY (STOP SHORT AND HAVE TO BE RESTARTED SEVERAL TIMES, OFTEN FORCED TO CLOSE); OR THEY CLOSE BACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER OPENING AND SCARE OR SQUISH THE PASSENGER WHO IS GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE. SUMMER OF 2014 THERE'S A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE STUCK CLOSED THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE RECALL. HOWEVER THE SERVICE ADVISOR OPENED THE SLIDING DOORS AND STILL THEN THEY REFUSE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. I CONTACTED HONDA'S MANUFACTURER AND PER THE CASE MANAGER AT CORPORATE OFFICE," HONDA CANNOT HELP ME THE RECALL." OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY LX IS HAVING MASSIVE PAINT PEELING ISSUES. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED FOR THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAS SINCE EXPIRED, BUT AT THE TIME OF THE WARRANTY WE DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM. IT NOW HAS 60% PAINT LOSS ON THE ROOF AND PATCHES AS LARGE AS A HAND ON THE BODY ARE PEELING. VAN IS GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED. AFTER CONTACTING THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE VAN WAS PURCHASED, WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO HONDA REPS IN OUR AREA TO INSPECT VAN AND THEY DON'T EXPECT ONE UNTIL NEXT MONTH OR SO. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN TO WAIT UNTIL THE REP IS AVAILABLE TO INSPECT VAN. I HAVE A NAVY BLUE COLOR HONDA ODYSSEY 2005. NOW, THAT CAR IS BECOMING A JUNK BECAUSE OF THE PAINT DEFECT. AND IT START CHANGING WITH RUST. PAINT PEELING BECOMES SERIOUS DAY AFTER DAY, ALMOST EVERYWHERE THE TOP OF THE CAR, AND PAINT START TO PEEL BONNET TOO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WERE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE MOTOR FUNCTION TO SECURE THE DOORS BECAME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IN THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
LARGE PATCHES OF PAINT HAVE COME OFF THE HOOD, ROOF AND ABOVE THE PASSENGER-SIDE SLIDING DOOR. WASHING THE CAR WITH A STANDARD GARDEN HOSE NOZZLE RESULTS IN PAINT ACTUALLY FLYING OFF THESE BODY PANELS AS IF IT WERE BEING SAND BLASTED. THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS (OCTOBER 2012) WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (DEALING WITH THIS PRECISE PROBLEM) RAN OUT. UP UNTIL THIS TIME, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT SO IT WOULDN'T HAVE OCCURRED TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER TO AVAIL HIMSELF OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR

OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME. WE WERE AT A STOPLIGHT WHEN WE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WE QUICKLY DROVE IT A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY FROM ANYONE, JUMPED OUT AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. ROLLING SIDE DOORS - AND REAR HATCH STRUTS MASSIVE PROBLEMS. BOUGHT CAR IN JAN 2006, NEW. IN 2007 ONE OF THE SIDE DOORS QUIT ROLLING. HAD TO HAVE THE ROLLER REPLACED - COST OVER $700. THEN A YEAR LATER, THE OTHER SIDE ROLLING DOOR WENT OUT. THEN, THE REAR HATCH STRUTS TOTALLY GAVE WAY AND THE REAR HATCH CAME SLAMMING DOWN ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM MY 7 YEAR OLDS HEAD. I CALLED DEALER - HONDA CARLAND IN ROSWELL - THEY COULD CARE LESS. UNTIL I HAD TO RAISED THE ROOF WITH HONDA CORPORATE BEFORE ANYBODY WOULD OFFER TO COVER THE COST TO REPLACE STRUTS. POWER SLIDING DOOR ON 05' HONDA ODYSSEY FELL OFF WHEN UNLOADING MY CHILDREN FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MIDDLE BRACKET/STRUT THAT HOLDS THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE CENTER RAIL ALONG THE SIDE OF THE VAN TOTALLY FAILED. I WAS AT THE BUS STOP WITH MY CHILDREN AND THE DOOR FELL OFF AS I OPENED THE DOOR TO HELP MY CHILD OUT. I WAS MORTIFIED AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A SENSOR OR POSSIBLY A MOTOR ISSUE....
DRIVERS SIDE REAR PASSENGER 'POWER SLIDING DOOR' (PSD) FAILED TO CLOSE, REQUIRING WIFE AND CHILDREN TO DRIVE TO GARAGE WITH OPEN DOOR, AND DOOR ALARM SOUNDING. DOOR CLOSED NORMALLY AT GARAGE, AND NEITHER THAT MECHANIC NOR THE HONDA DEALER COULD FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH DOOR. PROBLEM REPEATED SPORADICALLY THROUGH THE YEARS, AND DEALER COULD NEVER RESOLVE PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD MANUALLY ASSIST THE DOOR TO CLOSE AND, WITH SEVERAL TRIES, GET IT CLOSED. BECAUSE OF THE HAZARDS IN HAVING TO DRIVE TO A MECHANIC WITH CHILDREN AND AN OPEN PASSENGER DOOR & SCREAMING ALARM, OUR SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR, BUT OCCASIONALLY A PASSENGER HAS UNKNOWINGLY OPENED IT, CAUSING DIFFICULTY CLOSING IT. WHILE ON VACATION, THE ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED MORE THAN A FEW INCHES. WE WERE STILL ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WAY TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE ELECTRIC OPENING MECHANISM WHERE IT WAS STUCK, SO THE DOOR COULD NOT BE USED. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ALSO FAILED. IN THIS CASE, THE DOOR WAS STUCK HALF OPEN AND COULD NOT BE MOVED EITHER TO FULLY OPEN IT OR CLOSE IT. THE DOOR WAS STUCK OPEN UNTIL WE COULD GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DOORS SHOULD BE DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ALLOWS EASY MANUAL OPERATION OF THE DOORS IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND OPENING MECHANISM. *TR
