The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, power steering and braking functionality before the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast into a parking lot. The contact did not notice any warning lights being illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to her residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the drive belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had become difficult to turn with the occasional recurring loss of power steering functionality. The contact related the steering failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V039000 (Steering). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to her residence. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with needing a power steering line to be replaced. The local mechanic repaired the vehicle however, the failure recurred. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 05V039000 (Steering) however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. SUBARU/HONDA DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE SECONDARY SAFETY RECALL FOR FUEL PUMP MODULE, POSSIBLE FIRE AND EXPLOSION. ($710.31 REPAIR ESTIMATE) DEALERSHIP INSPECTION SHOWED ADDITIONAL SAFETY ISSUES/REPAIRS NEEDED TO STEERING AND AXLES THAT EXCEEDED $6,000.00 IN REPAIRS. VEHICLE PURCHASED AND SOLD WITH NO CONCERN FOR SAFETY OR DEPENDABILITY. ALL TRUST VIOLATED, WE CAN NOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP WITH REPAIR OR SERVICE OF OUR VEHICLES. DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE EVEN AFTER INVESTIGATION BY THE OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL. WE REQUESTED AN INVESTIGATION AS TO HOW A VEHICLE WITH SO MANY SAFETY AND REPAIR ISSUES WAS SOLD TO US AS A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WITH NO ISSUES. PREVIOUS REPAIRS EXCEEDED $8,000.00. ALL DOCUMENTATION IS WITH THE OAG.

AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKAGE AND CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN MANEUVERING VEHICLE.
PURCHASED MY VAN USED IN 2012. IT HAD A STEERING ISSUE BUT I WAS NEW TO THE FEEL OF HONDA HANDLING AND THOUGHT IT WAS OK AND NORMAL. I HAVE HAD INCREASING ISSUES WITH MY CAPABILITY TO STEER. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RESERVOIR BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF MY VAN DID NOT HAVE IT SERVICED. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID IT IS PASSED WARRANTY AND CANNOT ABSORB THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I SAY, THAT SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, IT SHOULD BE FIXED NOW BECAUSE HONDA NEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHILE THE TIME FRAME STILL OBLIGATED THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE SHOOK EXCESSIVELY EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE PERFORMED EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A SPECIFIC REMEDY TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DRIVING THROUGH A LOCAL PARK WITH 3 SPEED TABLES, AFTER CROSSING THE 3RD TABLE I HEARD A CLUNK FROM THE ENGINE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, LOST THE POWER STEERING AND THE CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO KEEP DRIVING AS THERE WAS NO SAFE PLACE TO STOP. I DROVE SLOWLY WITHOUT POWER STEERING, THE CLUNKING CONTUNIED UNTIL SOMETHING BROKE FREE AND I NOTED IT'S LOCATION ON THE ROAD IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK TO THE PLACE WITHIN 30 MINS SO THE PART WAS STILL THERE. IT WAS A METAL RING WITH GROOVES ON THE OUTSIDE, LOOKED LIKE A BELT WENT ON IT. I GOT IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THE HARMONIC BALANCER WAS GONE AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LOOSING STEERING IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE, AND NEEDS TO BE...

IN ADDITION, THE BOLTS FRACTURED ASSOCIATED WITH THE SUSPENSION PULLEYS MORE THAN TWICE CAUSING A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED MORE THAN ONCE AND TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A THIRD TIME, WHO REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT, THE BOLTS AND THE PULLEYS. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECKED WITH THE MANUFACTURER ON THE OEM PARTS THAT HAD BEEN ORDERED AND THEY STATED THAT THE BOLTS WERE NEWLY DESIGNED BUT PROVIDED NO RESOLUTION ON WHY THE BOLTS PREMATURELY FRACTURED THREE TIMES. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V039000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

CAR IS SOMETIMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. HAS BEEN REPORTED TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. FINALLY HAD THE STEERING PUMP REPLACED FOR $271.77, THIS AFTER THEY HAD REPLACED IT PREVIOUSLY UNDER WARRANTY. SO HAVE HAD THREE STEERING PUMPS IN THIS CAR AND SOMETIMES CANNOT MOVE THE WHEEL ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF PARKING SPOT OR GARAGE. LOCAL DEALER REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN MANEUVERING IN LOW MILEAGE AREAS, I.E. DRIVEWAYS, PARKING LOTS, MY POWER STEERING PUMP DOES NOT ASSIST WELL, IF AT ALL. THE VEHICLE MAKES A NOISE SIMILAR TO AN RC CAR WITH A DYING BATTERY AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO MOVE. IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, IT CAN TAKE ME UP TO 10 OR SO MOVES BECAUSE I CANNOT GET THE WHEEL TO TURN PROPERLY. *TR
AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE I WAS FORCED TO OBTAIN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, ETCHING AND MANY OTHER THINGS. ONE YEAR LATER I BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOORS. I INFORMED HONDA BECAUSE DOORS ARE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO DO ANY REPAIRS. SUMMER OF 2014 THERE'S A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE STUCK CLOSED THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE RECALL. HOWEVER THE SERVICE ADVISOR OPENED THE SLIDING DOORS AND STILL THEN THEY REFUSE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. I CONTACTED HONDA'S MANUFACTURER AND PER THE CASE MANAGER AT CORPORATE OFFICE," HONDA CANNOT HELP ME THE RECALL." I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT ON SEPTEMBER OF 2011 THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE STEERING. I INFORMED THE CASE MANAGER THAT I NEVER RECEIVED SUCH NOTICE. HER RESPONSE WAS "PERHAPS THE NOTICE WAS MAILED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER, BECAUSE...
POWER STEERING VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN COLD WEATHER. CAUSED CAR TO COLLIDE INTO ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THE STEERING DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. *TR
I WAS NOT AWARE THAT HONDA HAD A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR. MY LOCAL DEALER (AUTOPARKS HONDA, CARY, NC) IS TELLING ME THAT THE RECALL IS OVER AND THE EXTENDED RECALL IS OVER SO THEY CANNOT FIX IT AT NO COST TO ME. STEERING SHAKING BADLY BEFORE A CAR IS COMING TO STOP (WHILE SLOW DOWN THE CAR). *TR
THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT WENT BAD CAUSING A TERRIBLE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL DUE TO THE ENGINE BANGING AROUND. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT WAS ONLY ADDED TO THIS VEHICLE AFTER HONDA DECIDED TO COME OUT WITH THE ECO FEATURE. THE VCM ENGINE CUTS OUT CYLINDERS WHEN THEY ARE NOT NEEDED CAUSING THE ENGINE TO VIBRATE SO A REAR MOTOR MOUNT WAS ADDED TO DECREASE THE VIBRATION. THE MOTOR MOUNT IS AROUND $500 PLUS THE COST OF LABOR TO REPAIR. I DON'T HAVE THE $700 NEEDED TO REPAIR MY VAN SO I WILL BE DOUBLE FISTING THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL THE REMAINING MOUNTS FAIL CAUSING MY ENGINE TO FALL OUT. HOPEFULLY NO ONE WILL BE INJURED DURING THIS INCIDENT BECAUSE IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE ACCORDING TO AMERICAN HONDA. *TR
OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW YEARS THE STEERING PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES AND ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PRIOR OWNER. 4 STEERING PUMPS AND ONCE AGAIN THE PUMP IS FAILING. THE CAR HAS LESS THEN 100000 MILES ON IT AND YET HONDA IS FAILING TO FIX THE STEERING PUMP THAT THEY SAID THEY WERE EXTENDING A 100000 MILE WARRANTY ON. THE PUMPS ARE ALL LEMONS AND JUST CONTINUE TO FAIL ONE AFTER ANOTHER. ITS RIDICULOUS THAT 4 PUMPS HAVE FAILED ON THE SAME CAR OVER A FEW YEARS. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING MORE TO THIS THEN A STEERING PUMP. *TR

TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO SAME SHOP, ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING RE-DONE; HOWEVER, PROBLEM PERSISTED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DIFFERENT SHOP--PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES, AND HAD ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING PERFORMED ONCE AGAIN; HOWEVER, PROBLEM PERSISTED. HAD TIRES REPLACED AND ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING PERFORMED YET AGAIN; HOWEVER, PROBLEM PERSISTS. AFTER ALIGNMENT THE TRACKING WAS ONLY MORE PRONOUNCED. WHILE PASSING A VEHICLE THE TRACKING ALMOST PULLED MY CAR INTO VEHICLE I WAS PASSING. *TR

PER SERVICE PERSON, THEY REPLACED THE CAPS OF BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. DRIVING BACK HOME @ 70 MILES, FELT LIKE THE STEERING LOOSING CONTROL, STOPPED AT THE NEAR BY CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER: THEY DIDN'T FELT ANY MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE STEERING BUT FELT LIKE THE SERVICE WASN'T DONE AS THEY SAID.
