NHTSA RECALL #04V!76000 CAR WAS EVALUATED OIL JET KIT INSTALLED. NO PROOF THAT THE GEARS WERE ACTUALLY DISCOLORED; WHICH WOULD HAVE REQUIRED A REPLACEMENT TRANNY. QUITE A MONEY SAVER.FOR HONDA. TRANSMISSIONS ARE EXPENSIVE. HONDA REPLACED THE TRANNY COST TO ME 2,100. I STILL HAVE CAR; RUNNING FINE AT 88,000 OIL JET KIT WAS INSTALLED 4/2004. THE FAILURE AT 62,000 MILES, WITH THE FIX IS STILL PRE-MATURE TRANNY FAILURE. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE REPAIRS AND SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, THE TIMING BELT, SERPENTINE BELT, WATER PUMP, TRANSMISSION, HEATER VALVE, TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, POWER STEERING PUMP, DASH AND STEERING LINKS WERE ALL REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP GEARS AND THEN FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME IN OPERATION AFTER WAITING FOR ONE HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO INTERNAL DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,892. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST THE CONSUMER WITH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, BECAUSE SHE WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. UPDATED 03/21/13
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED FROM ~3RD-4TH GEAR WHILE DRIVING AT A CONSTANT 40 MILES PER HOUR IN TRAFFIC TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING VERY RAPID DE ACCELERATION (SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE ITEMS ON REAR DECK TO FLY FORWARD, SEAT BELTS TO LOCK, AND DRIVER TO HIT STEERING WHEEL) AND CAUSING OTHER DRIVERS TO BRAKE TO AVOID COLLISION. DRY PAVEMENT PREVENTED LOSS OF CONTROL. ACTION BY TRAILING DRIVERS (SPACING AND BRAKING) PREVENTED COLLISION. FOLLOWING INCIDENT, TRANSMISSION REMAINED LOCKED IN FIRST GEAR. TRANSMISSION FIRST LOCKED INTO FIRST GEAR (AS ABOVE) ON AUGUST 18, 2012. ON AUGUST 21, 2012 THE DEALER RETURNED THE VEHICLE AFTER ASSERTED THE TRANSMISSION HAD NOT FAILED AND REQUIRED ONLY FLUSHING AND CHANGING TRANSMISSION FLUID (TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD BEEN FLUSHED AND CHANGED IN 2010 AS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE LESS THAN 12,000 MILES OF THIS FAILURE). DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES AN HOUR IN 45 MPH ZONE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO 45 MPH, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. VEHICLE CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. I HAD TURN OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED ENGINE AND CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO 30 MPH AND DROVE 2 MILES HOME. NEXT DAY I DROVE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALER. VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR TWICE, EACH TIME WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHER SPEED LIMITS. HONDA DEALER HAS CALLED TO TELL ME IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. 2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION *TGW IN APRIL 2004, A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY PERFORMED A REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS NOW A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND NOT GOING INTO GEAR. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE GOING INTO 2ND GEAR WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS FOR IN 2004. THE TRANSMISSION PERIODICALLY FAILS TO SHIFT PROPERLY AND FAILED TO PROPEL THE CAR SUDDENLY ON THE INTERSTATE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGH SPEED. WAS FORCED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A VERY UNSAFE MANNER. TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR. SHIFTS ROUGHLY. WON'T GO INTO GEAR. DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING ON DASH. HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE FROM TRANSMISSION. CLUNKING INTO GEAR. YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE TRANSMISSION RECALL (NHTSA 04V176000). UPON REPAIR, IN SEPTEMBER 2004, I DID NOT NOTICE REPAIR IMPROVEMENT, AND CONTINUED TO DETECT THE ROUGH GRIND OF TRANSMISSION SHIFT AND A WHINING SOUND. IN 2009 I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE TO WHICH I HAD SOUGHT REPAIR. IN DECEMBER 2010 I EXPERIENCED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE JUST NOW EXPERIENCED MY 3RD TRANSMISSION FAILURE, JULY 2011. MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD ALWAYS HAD A FAINT WHINE, BUT HONDA SERVICES NEVER IDENTIFIED IT AS CONCERNING. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE UNTIL HONDA FINALLY SUGGESTED A REPAIR, BUT INFORMED ME THAT THE COMPONENT WAS THEN OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD BE A COSTLY REPAIR. I DECIDED TO DELAY REPAIR UNTIL JUNE 2011. AC PROBLEMS MANIFESTED IN...
FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON HIGHWAY AND TOOK THE OFF RAMP TO GO HOME. I STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT NEAR HOME AND PROCEEDED TO GO ON THE GREEN LIGHT. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 40MPH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE LIKE USUAL. AT THE NEXT RED LIGHT I COULD NOT GO OVER 5MPH. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TRANSMISSION SHIFT LIGHT FLASHED GREEN. I BARELY GOT HOME. DEALERSHIP SAID THE TRANSMISSION DIED WITH ONLY 79K MILES ON IT. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS INDICATION THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BAD. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE ACCELERATING FURTHER. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL ACCELERATION AFTER A BRIEF HESITATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO BE INFORMED IF THE VEHICLE WAS OR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,400.
ALL WAS NORMAL WHEN SUDDENLY MY TRANSMISSION LOST ITS GEAR. THE REV COUNT WENT ALL THE WAY UP AND MY CAR WASN'T MOVING. THE ONLY WAY THE CAR WILL SLIP BACK INTO GEAR IS I TURN OFF THE CAR AND START IT BACK UP. THEN IT STILL LOSES GEAR RANDOMLY~ *TR
AT NORMAL ACCELERATION AND AT RANDOM, VIOLENT GEAR SHIFT FROM LOW TO HIGH. SOMETIMES FROM 2 TO 3, OTHER TIMES FROM 3 AND UP. TRANSMISSION REMAINS IN SAME GEAR (2 OR 3) CLOSE TO (6000RPM) THEN VIOLENTLY SLAMS INTO NEXT GEAR!! SEEM SOME SCARY MOMENTS. EFFECTS STARTED AT 110K MILES; GOT TO DANGEROUS AT 122K MILES. AUTO REPAIR SHOP DECLARED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. REPLACED TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY CAR STARTED JERKING SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND TOOK IT INTO OUR TRUSTED AUTO MECHANIC AND THEY DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WITH THIS YEAR OF HONDA AND TO TAKE IT TO A HONDA DEALER SINCE COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT TRANSMISSION HAS DEFECTIVE PARTS. THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER CARE. THE MECHANICS WHO WORK ON MY CAR WERE ORIGINALLY HONDA CERTIFIED REPAIR TECH'S. DID ALL OF THAT STARTING ON MAY 24, 2011 AND AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF WAITING HONDA SAID IT WOULD COST AROUND $3700 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION OF WHICH I MUST PAY AROUND $2200. I HAVE APPEALED AGAIN BECAUSE EVERYONE, INCLUDING THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, HAS ADMITTED IT IS DEFECTIVE PARTS. PLUS I MADE SOME CALLS TO SEVERAL TRANSMISSION REBUILD OUTFITS AND THE GENERAL CONSENSUS IT WOULD COST ME $2100 FOR A COMPLETE REBUILD AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ABOUT DEFECTIVE HONDA...
THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND THAN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE SAFELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE CAR DROPPED FROM 75 TO 35 IN JUST A FEW SECONDS. *TR

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON MY WIFE'S 2003 HONDA ACCORD FAILED ON 6-17-11 AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED ON ITS OWN AND THE CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATED ON THE INTERSTATE WITH TRAFFIC APPROACHING FROM THE REAR THAT HAD TO CHANGE LANES TO AVOID COLLISION.
