FRONT-END SHIMMY AFTER CROSSING UNEVEN OR SLIGHT ROUGH PAVEMENT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. PURCHASED TRUCK WITH 6500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AT THIS TIME, SHIMMY SEEMED TO BE INDUCED BY ROUGH PAVEMENT AT SPEEDS FROM 62 TO 75 MPH. RECEIVED A "RECALL" THAT STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH TIRE PRESSURE. I CHECKED MY TIRES AND FOUND MY PRESSURE TO BE 65 PSI. AS TRUCK MILEAGE HAS INCREASED, THE SHIMMY NOW STARTS AT 50 MPH ON ROUGHER PAVEMENT. THE FRONT TIRES ARE WORN EXCESSIVELY ON THE OUTSIDE EDGES BUT NOT THE INSIDE EDGES INDICATING THIS IS NOT A PRESSURE PROBLEM. THE SIPES ON THE SIDE OF THE PIRELLI SCORPIONS IS ALMOST GONE INDICATING OVER A QUARTER INCHED DIFFERENCE IN THE INSIDE VERSUS THE OUTSIDE EDGES. THE SHIMMY CAN BE SO BAD THAT MY ARMS HURT AFTER IT OCCURS. I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE MY TRUCK AND HAVE LIMITED MY DRIVING...

I BOUGHT MY 2006 FORD F250, 4X4, CREW CAB DIESEL TRUCK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2005. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL I REACHED ABOUT 23K MILES. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WHEN I WENT OVER SOME SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE FRONT END STARTED SHAKING SO VIOLENTLY THAT I HAD A HARD TIME HOLDING ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP OFF THE ROAD, I LOOKED FOR OBVIOUS SUSPENSION PROBLEMS BUT FOUND NONE. I DID SOME INTERNET SEARCHING AND FOUND THE "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT IS COMMON WITH THIS TRUCK. I SAW THE B.S. ABOUT TIRE PRESSURE BUT THAT WASN'T IT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FRONT END SPECIALIST IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 40 YEARS. HE SAID THAT IT WAS THE STEERING DAMPENER AND HE HAD REPLACED SEVERAL ON THE FORDS. HE REPLACED MINE AND I HAVEN'T HAD A...
WHILE DRIVING A 2006 F250 SUPER DUTY XL 4X4 ON I-40 THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AT 70 MPH. THIS OCCURRED AFTER DRIVING OVER A BRIDGE. THE VEHICLE SHOOK SO VIOLENTLY IT WAS HARD TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND BRING IT TO A STOP. AFTER THIS INCIDENT IT ALSO OCCURRED THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. APPARENTLY THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT IS A COMPANY OWNED VEHICLE. AND SEVERAL DEALERS HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. *TR
I OWN A 2006 FORD F-250 EXT CAB TRUCK AND I AM EXPERIENCING A HYPER-SHAKE IN THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING UN EVEN SURFACES. THE HYPER-SHAKE MAINLY HAPPENS WHEN GOING SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH. I LIVE ON A DIRT RODE WITH LOTS OF POT HOLES AND EVEN WHEN DRIVING SLOW THE FRONT END BOUNCES ALL OVER THE RODE.I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY FOUND AND REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. IT HAD A SLIGHT BEND IN IT. IT HELPED A LITTLE BUT TRUCK STILL SHAKING WHEN HITTING ANY BUMPS. THE SHAKE IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. WHILE EXPERIENCING THE HYPER-SHAKE YOUR BRAKES DO NOT SLOW IT DOWN QUICK ENOUGH AND I VEERED INTO ANOTHER LANE WHILE GOING 65MPH. *TR

I REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER AS INSTRUCTED TO BUT THE OUTCOME HAS NOT CHANGED. I HAVE CALLED FORD NUMEROUS TIMES,BOTH THE DEALER AND FORD MANUFACTURER. PURCHASED A 2006 F250 SUPER DUTY 8-08 USED WITH 56,000 MILES. 5 TIMES SINCE THEN TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER A SMALL BUMP WILL GO OUT OF CONTROL STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VERY BAD AND TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO REGAIN CONTROL. LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED TRUCK SWERVED OVER 2 LANES AND ON TO SHOULDER BEFORE RE GAINING CONTROL. OTHERS HAVE HAD SAME EXPERIENCE IN SAME TRUCK. REPLACED TIRES DID NOT CURE PROBLEM. WAS A FORD MECHANIC AT A DEALERSHIP FOR 5YRS. INSPECTED TRUCK MY SELF ALL SUSPENSION PARTS AND STEERING COMPONENTS ARE TIGHT AND IN GOOD SHAPE. WONT LET MY WIFE AND CHILD RIDE OR DRIVE THIS VEHICLE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD THAT STATED IMPROPER TIRE PRESSURE IS THE PROBLEM, I WILL ASSURE YOU THAT IT IS NOT!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK AND MADE A RATTLING NOISE. THE CONTACT HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE STEERING WHEEL. IN ORDER TO STOP THE SHAKING, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SLOWED DOWN TO A MINIMUM SPEED OF 50 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES CAUSED THE SHAKING. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER, WHICH STATED THAT HIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. FORD IS AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. OUR COMPANY RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY ADDRESSING AN ISSUE WITH F-SUPER DUTY 250/350 4X4. IT EXPLAINS HOW A SEVERE SHIMMY COMING FROM THE FRONT END CAN BE A PROBLEM. IT OFFERS A SOLUTION OF USING THE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE. WE ARE A COUNTY OFFICE, UPKEEP AND MAINTENANCE IS FIRST PRIORITY AND TIRE PRESSURE IS CHECK WEEKLY AND ALWAYS MEETS MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDATION. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. THE SHAKING IS SO VIOLENT THAT IT CAUSES YOU TO TEMPORARILY LOOSE CONTROL UNTIL YOU GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. HOWEVER, IT REQUIRES SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER. AFTER REPLACING THE DAMPENER ON THE FRONT END IT QUIT. THE SHAKING IS STARTING AGAIN AFTER ONLY 10,000 MILES. YOU REALLY FEEL LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK AND CRASH. *TR

AT SPEED ABOVE 55 MPH IF I HIT A BUMP, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START TO OSCILLATED ABOUT 4" INCHES IN EITHER DIRECTION AND WILL NOT STOP UNTIL I SLOW DOWN. AT HIGHER SPEEDS, IE 65-70 MPH THE FRONT END FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO FALL OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I HAVE TRIED USING CONTINUOUS WHEEL BALANCERS. AND WAS ABOUT TO REPLACE THE TIE ROD AND DRAG LINK ENDS UNTIL I LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM (POSSIBLE DESIGN ISSUE). I HAVE NO DESIRE TO PAY A $1000 ON A REPAIR THAT MAY NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THIS TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN LIFTED. *TR

I SPENT OVER 37000 FOR THIS TRUCK AND NOW WHAT. I FEEL UNSAFE IN IT AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE THING BREAKS THE WAY IT IS SHAKING. IT WILL PROBABLE TAKE ME WRECKING TO GET IT FIXED. *TR
TRAVELING APPROX 60 MPH, TOWING A 7,000 LB 30 FT TRAVEL TRAILER. SLOWED TO MAKE AN EXIT AND AS I STARTED THE TURN, THERE WES NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. MANUAL STEERING WAS STILL WORKING (WITH EXTREMELY HIGH EFFORT). NORMALLY, I WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE A PUMP FAILURE, BUT THE PUMP WAS STILL FINE.... THE VALVE IN THE STEERING GEAR BOX FAILED. THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS SEVERELY CONTAMINATED WITH THE GROUND-UP REMNANTS OF THE STEERING GEAR INTERNALS. I HAVE AN '06 FORD F-250. EVERYTIME I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR FREEWAY THE FRONT END DOES WHAT'S KNOWN AS THE "DEATH SHAKE" ACCORDING TO RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET. MANY OF PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME EXPERIENCE THE MORE I DID RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER. MINE ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO SLOW DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP FOR THE FRONT END TO STOP SHAKING OR IT WILL SEND YOU INTO THE ONCOMING LANE AND ALL HAVE HAD VERY CLOSE CALLS. FORD DEALER SHIPS TO MY KNOWLEDGE ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER SHIP (SUNLAND FORD) IN VICTORVILLE DOESN'T KNOW THE FIX. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY STEERING DAMPENER. NOPE!! THE TRUCK SHOWED NO SIGNS OF TROUBLE LEADING UP TO THE EVENT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MILES AN HOUR AND HEADING AROUND A RIGHT HAND CORNER IN THE ROAD THE TRUCK HIT AN INDENTATION IN THE ROAD SURFACE WHICH CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY AND DRIFT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE CAUSING THE TRUCKS MIRROR TO HIT A BOX TRUCK AND SMASH INTO THE INTERIOR OF MY TRUCK. WHEN THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN TO BELOW 35, I REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE BOX TRUCK, APPARENTLY NOT REALIZING WHAT HAD HAPPENED, CONTINUED ON WITHOUT STOPPING. WHEEL VIBRATION, STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATION AFTER GOING OVER ROUGH OR UNEVEN SURFACE,CAUSING LACK OF CONTROL AND SOMETIMES LANE SHIFT,THIS HAPPENS AROUND 50/55 MPH AND HIGHER AND MAINLY IN A SLIGHT LEFT HAND CURVE,DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. TRUCK HAS BEEN SEEN AT DEALER FROM ALMOST NEW,TRIED BALANCING TIRES QUITE A FEW TIMES, CHANGE RIM, FORCED BALANCE TIRES,PUT STEERING DAMPER ON TRUCK. DAMPER HELPED BUT DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM, HAVE COME CLOSE 4 TIMES TO LOSING CONTROL OF VEH AND WRECKING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-250 SD. WHILE DRIVING 55-70 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND THE VEHICLE MOVED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS AND THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING DAMPER CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE DEALER MADE THE REPLACEMENT. AS OF NOVEMBER 26, 2007, THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,120.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A FAIRLY SMOOTH HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH. MY 2006 FORD F250 SD POWERSTROKE STARTED SHAKING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTING MOVING BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY. MY 2006, 5.3 GAS ENGINE, 4 WHEEL DRIVE, F250 SUPER DUTY HAS HAD EXCESSIVE WHEEL HOP, BOUNCING, VIBRATION, AND SOMETIMES, VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, WHEN GOING OVER EXPANSION JOINTS, BUMPS AND ROAD DEFECTS SINCE IT WAS NEARLY NEW. THIS TRUCK HAS DONE THIS SINCE DAY ONE AND WITH THE FACTORY TIRES AND THE NEW TIRES THAT I HAVE ON IT NOW. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT RESULTING FROM THE DEFECT IN DESIGN.

ALL ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALER 6/28/06 AND ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED. STABILIZER WAS REPLACED DUE TO LEAKING FLUID SHOWING COMPONENT HAD FAILED UNDER CONDITIONS PRESENTED TO VEHICLE. *JB
