EVERYTHING APPEARED FINE AFTER INSPECTION. CONTINUED TRIP WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS, I JUST KEPT IT AT 55 THE REST OF TRIP. NO MODS TO THE TRUCK, ALL FACTORY. *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 50-70MPH DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE OR BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT. USUALLY IF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HITS FIRST IT SENDS THE TRUCK INTO AN EXTREMELY VIOLENT SHAKING WITH LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE TIRES START BOUNCING SO HARD THAT THEY LEAVE THE PAVEMENT. IT WILL YANK THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF YOUR HAND IF YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN CONTROL IS TO BRAKE HARD DOWN TO ABOUT 30MPH. THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY DANGEROUS IN SO MANY WAYS. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THIS. WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE FRONT END SHIMMIES VIOLENTLY WHEN A BUMP OR IRREGULARITY IS HIT IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE ALMOST HAS TO COME TO A STOP BEFORE THE SHIMMY WILL GO AWAY. MY 17 YR OLD SON HAS AN '06 FORD F-250 SD CC LARIAT 4X4 TRUCK, WHICH I PURCHASED 12/09. HE BEGAN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS FRONT END "DEATH WOBBLE" EVERYONE ELSE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH COST $210. BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, MY SON COMPLAINED AGAIN A WEEK LATER AND HIS NEW TIRES PURCHASED FALL 2010 WERE BASICALLY BARE. SO I DROVE THE TRUCK THROUGH DOWNTOWN ATLANTA ON I-85, WHEN I HIT A BUMP IN THE HOV LANE AT 58 MPH IN A CURVE. THE FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING SO VIOLENTLY I COULD BARELY MAINTAIN MY LANE AND HAD CARS BESIDE, FRONT & REAR OF ME. 2006 F250 SD DIESEL SHAKES EXTREMELY VIOLENTLY WHEN CRUISING AT 55MPH+ AND HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. TRUCK IS UNCONTROLLABLE, DIFFICULT TO AVOID OTHER CARS. SLOWING TO ABOUT 35 MPH WILL RESOLVE THE SITUATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN 11 MONTHS, BOTH TOWING TRAILERS, EMPTY, ETC. TIRE PRESSURE, JOINTS, BEARINGS, DAMPENER, ALIGNMENT ETC ARE ALL FINE. I HAVE A 2006 F250 SUPERDUTY XLT, THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY SHAKES IN THE FRONT END WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ANYTHING OVER 50 MPH, SO BAD THAT I THINK MY DOORS ARE GOING TO POP OPEN. I DO LOSE BRIEF CONTROL, AND LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO GAIN CONTROL WITHOUT BRAKING. I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING THIS ISSUE STATING TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE. I HAVE COMPLIED WITH THIS BUT STILL IS A FACTOR REGARDLESS. I DO NOT HAVE THE EXTRA MONEY TO DO ANY EXPENSIVE UPGRADES OR REPAIRS. THIS IS A FORD ISSUE! I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 FORD SD SINCE DECEMBER 2008. SHORTLY AFTER WINTER DURING HIGH WAY DRIVING I EXPERIENCED VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING A POT WHOLE. I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD HAS CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD EXPLAINING THAT I NEED TO KEEP THE TIRE PRESSURE AT THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL OR IT WOULD CAUSE THE SHAKING. BUT THE AIR PRESSURE DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I ALSO PURCHASED THE PREMIER LEVEL EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED BY FORD. SHORTLY AFTER MY PURCHASE I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT FROM WENT SHIMMY THAT WAS FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED TRACK BAR. TRUCK WAS ALIGNED AND TIRES ROTATED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A VIOLENT FRONT END WOBBLE THAT IS PRECIPITATED BY RUNNING OVER ANY SIGNIFICANT ROAD IMPERFECTION AT ANY SPEED BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH. THE WOBBLE BECOMES SO SEVERE THAT CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE BECOMES NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS THE SPEED IS REDUCED TO APPROXIMATELY 25MPH, AT WHICH TIME THE WOBBLE STOPS. FORD HAS ISSUED A LETTER TO OWNERS STATING TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE AND THAT AS LONG AS FACTORY TIRE SIZES ARE ADHERED TO AND PROPER PRESSURE MAINTAINED THERE IS NO PROBLEM. IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CORRECTED IT WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE DEATHS. I HAVE THE OLD COIL SPRINGS IF THEY ARE NEEDED FOR THE INVESTIGATION. I HAVE A 2006 FORD F250 2 WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK WITH 41,500 MILES ON IT. WHILE ON A TRIP, THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS SEIZED UP REQUIRING IT TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. THE INNER RACE OF THE BEARING WAS GALLED (WELDED) ONTO THE SPINDLE REQUIRING NOT ONLY REPLACEMENT OF THE BEARINGS BUT REPLACEMENT OF THE SPINDLE. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE ALSO CHECKED FOR DAMAGE AND FOUND TO BE ALSO DEFECTIVE AND WERE REPLACED. NORMALLY, FRONT BEARINGS LAST IN EXCESS OF 100,000 MILES WITHOUT SERVICE. IF I WERE TO KEEP DRIVING ON THE SEIZED BEARING, I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY KILLED SOMEONE. ON 8/3/2009 AT 1730 AND 2045 HOURS I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 F250 SUPERDUTY 4X4 ON I-10 EASTBOUND AND DROVE OVER A BRIDGE/CULVERT SEAM IN THE ROADWAY.
