TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THEY DROVE THEIR VEHICLE TO THE STORE AND THEN BACK TO THEIR RESIDENCE. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE CONTACTS NEPHEW CAME INTO THE RESIDENCE AND STATED THEY SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THEIR VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONTACT WENT BACK OUTSIDE THEY SAW SMOKE AND FIRE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LIFT THE FRONT HOOD OF THE VEHICLE AND WITH A WATER GARDEN HOSE WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. NO ONE WAS INJURED, THERE WAS NO FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

EJECTED OR BLOWN SPARK PLUG WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HERD A LOUD POP AND THEN THE TRUCK STARTED DRIVING REALLY ROUGH. GOT IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED AFTER I GAVE AN EXPLANATION OF WHAT I HEARD AND EXPERIENCED.
MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN A STRAIGHT LINE WITH A S SPEED OF 30 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND AND LOSS OF POWER, ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT EXTREMELY ROUGH. I TURNED INTO A LOT WITHIN THE NEXT 75 YARDS AND PARKED, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND A IGNITION COIL AND AN INTACT SPARK PLUG FROM CYLINDER #3 SITTING ON TOP OF THE VALVE COVER.

I HAD BEEN AT MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE FOR OVER 1 1/2 HOURS. WE HEARD A LOUD BOOM THAT SHOOK THE TRAILER WE RAN OUTSIDE AND DISCOVERED THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO THE FIRE. THE ENTIRE HOOD WAS MELTING DOWN ONTO THE MOTOR . I WAS DRIVEN AND THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. *DT
WE HAVE A FORD F150 CREW CAB WITH A 5.4 TRITON MOTOR. I WAS PUTTING IT IN REVERSE TO DRIVE AWAY AND THERE WAS A STRANGE POPPING SOUND. I INSTANTLY SHUT IT OFF AND OPENED THE HOOD. MY FATHER EXAMINED IT FOR ME AND STATED THE NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG HAD EJECTED ITSELF, CRACKING THE COIL AS WELL. WE HAD TO HAVE A HELICOIL KIT INSTALLED IN ORDER TO HAVE THREADS FOR THE NEW PLUG. THE TRUCK STILL IS NOT RUNNING PROPERLY. THIS HAS COST APPROXIMATELY $300 SO FAR, AND THERE IS MORE WORK THAT WILL HAVE TO BE DONE SINCE IT STILL SPUTTERS AND RUNS ROUGH. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AS I HAVE RESEARCHED IT ON THE INTERNET BUT FORD REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POORLY MANUFACTURED TRITON MOTOR. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD F-150'S BLOWING SPARK PLUGS. I HAVE BLOWN 2 SO FAR AND READ ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES OF MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. BOTH TIMES I HAVE PULLED OVER AND DISCONNECTED THE IGNITION COIL. IF I WOULD NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS THE BLOWN PLUG COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. I WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON I-95 WHEN THE DRIVER OF AN ADJACENT VEHICLE ALERTED ME THAT THERE WAS FIRE SHOOTING OUT FROM THE AREA OF THE FUEL FILLER DOOR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER ONTO THE HIGHWAY MEDIAN AND JUMPED OUT. THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES, AND THE CAB WAS ON FIRE. I BURNED MYSELF ON THE MELTING STEERING WHEEL AND WAS SINGED BY MELTING PLASTIC. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 164,800.
I KEEP HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY TRUCK EJECTING SPARK PLUGS FROM THE ENGINE WHICH IS BREAKING NOT ONLY MY SPARK PLUGS BUT MY COIL PACK AS WELL. THIS IS REDICULIOUS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT A LIGHT AT A DEAD STOP WHEN I HEAR A LOUD BANGING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING EXPLODED THEN MY TRUCK STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED. IT STRANDED US 45 MINUTES FROM HOME. THE SECOND TIME WAS TWO DAYS AGO ON MARCH 18 I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A DRIVE THRU AGAIN AT A DEAD STOP AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. AGAIN MY SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED AND COIL PACK BROKEN. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN CYLINDER 1 AND WAS REPAIRED THEN ONE MONTH LATER THE NEXT TIME CYLINDER 2 EJECTED. 5 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED AND HAD NEW PLUG AND COIL PACK IT AGAIN EJECTED....
AS I WAS LEAVING A STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED AND A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF IT'S HOLE AND WILL NOT GO BACK IN. THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATHS TO UNKNOWING FORD OWNERS. FORD SHOULD RECALL ASAP. *JB
THE TRUCK STARTED ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY HOURS AFTER BEING PARKED. BY THE TIME WE REALIZED IT WAS ON FIRE, IT WAS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL AND THE TRUCK WELL BEYOND SAVING. IT BURNED SO HOT IT MELTED THE TIRES, THE SIDING OF THE HOUSE AND DESTROYED PART OF A PRIVACY FENCE. WE KEPT WATER ON THE FIRE UNTIL IT WENT OUT ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER. THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD AND THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE TRUCK IS ALMOST UNRECOGNIZABLE. THE OWNER ( [XXX] ) IS AN AUTO MECHANIC AND HAS BEEN FOR FORTY PLUS YEARS. WE RUN AN AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS. WE HAD HEARD VAGUE THINGS ABOUT FORDS AND FIRES BUT DID NOT LOOK INTO IT UNTIL AFTER THE INCIDENT. WE PURCHASED THE TRUCK THIS WINTER AND NEVER GOT ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH PROBLEM. THE PRIOR OWNER...
