THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF THE ALIGNMENT WAS BAD. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. TURNING WAS PARTICULAR;Y DIFFICULT. IT SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL ON THE TOE LINKS STATED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE KNUCKLES WERE BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED AND THAT IT HAPPENS TO EVERY 2013 FORD EXPLORER FOR SOME REASON.
VEHICLE HAS 74,200 MILES ON IT. POWER STEERING IS FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT UNDER MINOR STEERING MOVEMENTS (LANE CHANGES OR MINOR CURVATURE IN ROAD) I UNDERSTEER DUE TO INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND. WHEN POWER STEERING COMES BACK OVERSTEER AND END UP SWERVING VIGOROUSLY DUE TO ASSIST RETURNING. IT HAS CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION MANY TIMES IN THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS CAN EASILY CREATE COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE AT SPEED.
POWER STEERING FAILURE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE DROVE THE VEHICLE, USING MANUAL STEERING, TO ROWE FORD WESTBROOK (800-872-7693, LOCATED AT 91 MAIN ST, WESTBROOK, ME 04092). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN, BUT UNCOMMON, ISSUE. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR BOX. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
CRANKED UP EXPLORER AND RECEIVED POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. CALLED DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON RECALL OR SEE WHAT THIS WAS ABOUT. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND BY TURNING THE EXPLORER OFF AND ON AGAIN USUALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM THIS DID AT THAT TIME. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER AND DID WHAT THEY SAID BECAUSE THEY TOLD US IT WAS NOT COMMUNICATING CORRECTLY. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN FOR A WHILE UNTIL TODAY WHEN TRYING TO DO THAT FIVE TIMES IT DID NOT COMMUNICATE BUT THIS TIME IT GAVE THE SAME POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND A SERVICE ADVANCETRAC MESSAGE. LUCKY THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE NOT IN THE CAR. HAD TO HAUL THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARKING LOT TO MY HOUSE FOR THE TIME BEING UNTIL I CAN GET...

WITHIN TWO BUSINESS DAYS, THE EPS INDICATOR FLASHED AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED, WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE SAFELY DRIVEN. ASTORG FORD LINCOLN OF PARKERSBURG (2028 7TH ST, PARKERSBURG, WV 26101, 304-485-8585) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. OUR POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON OUR 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY HE DIDN'T CRASH THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE IT IMMEDIATELY MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO USE HIS STEERING. THE STEERING IS COMPLETELY OUT AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I CHECKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND HIS CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE THE MANUFACTURE DATE FOR THE RECALL THAT WAS DONE IN 2014 ON 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORERS. WE ARE NOW OUT OF POCKET OVER $2000 BECAUSE WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION. ALSO, WHEN I CALLED FORD REGARDING THIS PROBLEM I WAS TOLD IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PART IN THE FUTURE I WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED AND SHOULD WAIT TO HAVE IT FIXED UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED MAKING MY CAR VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS I WAS STARTING TO TURN. I WAS LETTING OFF THE BRAKE AND BARELY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND AS I STARTED TO TURN THE WHEEL, A WARNING MESSAGE POPPED UP STATING THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAD FAILED. I COULD STILL TURN THE WHEEL (WITH QUITE A BIT OF EFFORT) , SO I COMPLETED MY TURN VERY SLOWLY AND MOVED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN. AFTER THAT, THE POWER STEERING FAILED 5 TIMES WHILE I WAS BACKING UP. EACH TIME I TURNED ON THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, THEN AS I WOULD LET OFF THE BRAKE AND JUST TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL AND START TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SEIZE UP AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE NOTICE WOULD POP UP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE WARRANTY PROVIDED COVERAGE UP TO 150,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,246.
WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. THE POWER STEELING AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON WITH A WARNING. THE POWER STEERING FAILURE NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A CITY STREET AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE TURNING.
POWER STEERING FAILED AND REVERTED TO MANUAL STEERING WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET. "POWER STEERING FAULT" MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CENTER. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION, ALTHOUGH IT WAS QUITE DIFFICULT. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE UNDER THE THESE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HARD FOR HER TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN ACCIDENT. ALSO, WE HAVE SMALL CHILDREN THAT COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN ON-BOARD WHICH MAKES THIS ISSUE ALL THE MORE CONCERNING, SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS MAINLY USED TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. AFTER DRIVING TO A PARKING LOT, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING RE-ENGAGED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SAFELY WITHOUT ANY FURTHER ISSUES. 2013 FORD EXPLORER PARKED IN A PARKING LOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER BEING DRIVEN 2 MILES AT 9:30 A.M. ON FIRST START ON A 95-DEGREE DAY. ON STARTING ONE HOUR LATER, 10:30 A.M., THE CAR STARTED, IT WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, BUT ON HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A SLIGHT TURN WHILE BACKING UP FROM THE PARKING SPACE TO LEAVE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY FROZEN AND WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. HI I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 67,000 MILES ON IT. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS NOT WORKING AND I HAVE NO STEERING AT ALL. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE BUT UPON CALLING A FORD DEALER, THEY SAID MY VEHICLE VIN# IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY CAR SPECIFICALLY IS NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL WHEN I HAVE READ ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AND THEIR VEHICLE IS IN RECALL. I WAS DRIVING ON SUNDAY, MAY 19TH. MY STEERING WAS FINE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY DASH STARTED TO LIGHT UP. POWER STEERING LOSS AND THEN IT SAID ADVANCED TRACTION FAULT. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. SO I TRIED TO PULL OVER AND NOTICED I COULDN'T EVEN MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL IS WAS SO HARD TO TURN. SO HE GAVE ME THE RECALL NUMBER AND I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT'S NOT PART OF THE RECALL! EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE FALLS WITHIN THE DATE RANGE...

MY CAR EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. THE POWER STEERING MODULE DID NOT ALLOW MANUAL INPUT AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. I STOPPED FOR GAS AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR IT SAID "SERVICE POWER STEERING" THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER SAID "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". BEFORE ALL OF THIS HAPPENED THERE WERE NO ERROR MESSAGES OR SERVICE MESSAGES DISPLAYED. THE FORD DEALER IN TOPEKA, KS IDENTIFIED THE RACK AND PINION AND WORM GEAR AS THE FAULT AND NONE OF THE TECHNICIANS KNOW WHY NO MANUAL INPUT WAS BEING ACCEPTED...
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND "SERVICE POWER ASSIST" LIGHT ALONG WITH ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT. BUILT IN JUNE, I'M NOT COVERED BY RECALL #14S06.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THERE TELLING ME MY VIN IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR 2011 TO 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHICH IT IS EXPERIENCEING THE SAME PROBLEM...

THE FORD EXPLORER COMES WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. MINE IS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AND QUITS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SLOW TURNS. FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND ITS RECALL.
STEERING GEARBOX FAULTY AND CAN FAIL IN MOTION, BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHES, THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THERE ARE RECALLS FOR SOME 2013-2014 VEHICLES. LIKELY SHOULD BE EXTENDED. GEARBOX ISSUES ARE OCCURING NOW, WILL PROBABLY REPLACE BEFORE THERE IS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY POWER STEERING SENSOR FLASHED ON THE DASH SAYING TO SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER I FOUND MYSELF BATTLING TO CHANGE LANES AND TURN ALL TOGETHER. MY POWER COMPLETELY CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOING SPEEDS OF UP TO 50 MPH. IVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE OR EVEN A WARNING BEFOREHAND. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO MY MAKE AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED 30 DAYS SHORT OF THE RECALL.

ON 18 APRIL 2019 FILED COMPLAINT NUMBER: 11197130. POWER STEERING WAS JUST BECOMING DIFFICULT TO TURN. CALLED FORD FOR EXISTING RECALL ON POWER STEERING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V286000). FORD STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. ON 20 APRIL 2019 THE POWER STEERING FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30PM IN NEWBURYPORT MA. WIFE WAS DRIVING. ALMOST CRASHED INTO POL. STOPPED AT THE LAST SECOND. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF A YOUNG DRIVER WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL.
DRIVING ON STRAIGHTAWAY DOING ABOUT 45MPH AND COMING TO A STOP. SERVICE LIGHTS & BELLS POPPED ON AND POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE STEERING INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS UP FOR ABOUT A SECOND. AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF STEERING LOCKS FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WHILE YOUNG DRIVER (DAUGHTER) IS BEHIND THE WHEEL. SOMETIMES WHEEL LOCKS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. FORD SAYS THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER "LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST" RECALL. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND A SAFETY ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,342.

WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT A RECALL I WAS TOLD MY CAR DID NOT FALL UNDER THE SPECIFICATIONS, SO I HAD TO PAY TO GET THE POWER STEERING REPLACED (ROUGHLY $1,400). NINE MONTHS LATER MY POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN, THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT. WHILE DRIVE 55 MPH THE STEERING WENT OUT THE CAR CROSSED CENTER LINE ALMOST HITTING AN ONCOMING CAR. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE. FORD HAS A RECALL ON THE SAME VEHICLE MODEL YEARS AS MINE 2011-2013 RECALL L#14S06. THIS CAR WAS MADE AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME PLANT IN CHICAGO, YET THEY WILL NOT FIX THIS $2,000 PROBLEM.
STEERING STICKS AS YOUR TURNING, IN ANY DIRECTION OR SPEED INCLUDING STATIONARY. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO STEER SMOOTHLY AND FREQUENTLY CAUSES IT TO CROSS THE CENTERLINE AND OFF ROAD! NOT SAFE!
POWER STEERING DOWN. WARNING MASSAGE SAID 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' 'SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC' 'TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT'. IT IS TOO HARD TO STEER. CONTROL MODULE INTERNAL FAILURE, CODES U3000-49, U3000-96, U3000-71.
FAILURE OF STEERING GEAR. STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT AND ATTEMPTS TO HANG AFTER A TURN. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2013 EXPLORERS FOR SIMILAR REASONS, BUT ONLY CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ON LINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY FORD DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND HAS REFUSED TO EXTEND THE RECALL. REPAIR COST $1850.
WHEN I START MY VEHICLE I GET A WARNING THAT SAYS, "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND I CAN NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WHATSOEVER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED ALTHOUGH THIS TIME THE VEHICLE IS NOT ABLE TO TURN AT ALL ANYMORE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND AFTER 3-5 ATTEMPTS OF STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE TO LEAVE, AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE WHEELS WOULDN'T TURN AND MY VEHICLE WENT STRAIGHT BACKWARDS. AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS THE ISSUE WAS SELF RESOLVED. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED WHICH WAS THE MOST RECENT I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND GOT THE WARNING AGAIN AND CHECKED THE...
