VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THE CAR DIED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS SHOWING CODE P2111 FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR SHUTS OFF AND COMES TO A SLOW STOP. YOUR ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON FIRST. I STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF, WAIT ABOUT 10SEC AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. IT STARTS FINE. I TRAVEL ABOUT 6 MILES AND THE CAR STOPS AGAIN, THIS TIME JERKING BACK AND FORTH A LITTLE AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I STOP THE CAR AND FOLLOW THE SAME STEPS ON TURNING IT BACK ON. I AM STILL ABLE TO BREAK AND STEER OFF OF ROADS. HOWEVER, NOT WITH MUCH TIME BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPS. I TOOK IT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND GOT THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE CODE WAS P2112/THROTTLE ACTUATOR PER THE REPRESENTATIVE. THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY OR ANY BUSY ROADWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC EVERYDAY TO AND FROM WORK. *TR
ON SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2013, I DROVE 2.5 HOURS NORTH FOR ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDINGS. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR LOST POWER. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE WITH A SEMI BEHIND ME. LUCKILY THE SEMI DRIVER WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO THE RIGHT LANE BEFORE REAR-ENDING ME. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE AND COME TO A STOP. AS I DID, MY ESCAPE ACTED AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO DIE BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY. I NOTICED AN OPEN-ENDED WRENCH IN THE BOTTOM LEFT OF MY INSTRUMENT PANEL AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LOOKED THROUGH THE MANUAL TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT MEANT. IT SAID THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN. I WAS RUNNING LATE TO BEGIN WITH SO I...
ON SEVERAL INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS BEGINNING ON JUNE 15, 2013 MY FORD ESCAPE WOULD JERK FORWARD AND LOSE POWER (EVEN ON THE FREEWAY). SOMETIMES I AM ABLE TO MOVE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OTHERS IT DIES BEFORE I CAN MOVE IT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION OR STREET. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH ILLUMINATES. THIS PROBLEM IS SPONTANEOUS AND CAN DRIVE FOR SEVERAL MILES WITHOUT AN INCIDENT AND THEN OCCURS OUT OF NOWHERE AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC HE INFORMED ME THAT THE CODE P2112 SHOWED THAT MY THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS GETTING STUCK CLOSED. I HAVE HEARD THAT SEVERAL OTHER FORD VEHICLES ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED ASAP. AFTER SPENDING $370 TO FIX THE PROBLEM...
DRIVING AROUND 65MPH AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, LOSS OF ALL POWER ALL I COULD DO WAS TRY TO MAKE MY WAY FROM THE FAST LANE OVER TO THE SHOULDER, DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND DROVE FINE ALL THE WAY HOME, A FEW DAYS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING, CUT OFF WHILE DOING AROUND 60MPH AGAIN IN THE FAST LANE I HAD TO TRY AND GET OVER THROUGH 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH CARS BLOWING BY ME AT OVER 80MPH TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, THIS IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED. I WILL BE DRIVING ALONG AND THE ENGINE ACTS AS IF IT DIDN'T GET ENOUGH GAS AND AIR MIXTURE SO IT KICKS OUT OF SHIFTING AND JUST SLOWS DOWN THEN IT STARTS HOPPING. IT GIVES ME A SYMBOL ON THE DASHBOARD OF A WRENCH. I LOOKED IT UP AND IT SAYS IT THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAD A MECHANIC COME WITH HIS HANDHELD COMPUTER AND READ THE CODE AND IT SAYS THROTTLE AVIATOR STUCK OPEN, THEN HE ERASES THE COMPUTER CODE ND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE NEXT TOME IT HAPPENS. WHICH IT HAS HAPPEN EVERYDAY NOW SINCE JUNE 12TH. FORD HAS SAID THAT THE PART IS BEING REVAMPED AND NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAS REPLACED MANY OF THESE. LEAVING HOME CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THROTTLE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING AND WOULD ALLOW ME TO GIVE IT ANY GAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND COULD NOT BE RESTATED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, SHE SUDDENLY FELT THE VEHICLE LOOSE POWER EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH.
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING CAR AND BARELY HAD ENOUGH RPMS TO GET OFF ROAD. HAD TO PULL BATTERY CABLE OFF TO GET CAR TO MOVE. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO GET THE CAR 20 MILES TO HOME THEN TRAILERED TO FORD DEALER. SAID IT WAS A BAD TB. THE CAR HAS ALSO STALLED AT 0MPH AND SOMETIMES SURGES. ON JUNE 23, 2013 DRIVING ON STREET ABOUT 25 M.P.H. WHEN CAR SUDDENLY DROPPED IN SPEED TO ALMOST AN IDLE. AFTER PULLING TO SIDE OF ROAD, WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND RETURN HOME AT ABOUT 1 M.P.H. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO VEHICLES BEHIND ME, OTHERWISE, BECAUSE OF THE ABRUPT STOPPING OF THE VEHICLE A REAR END ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. WORSE YET, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED, SERVICE COULD GIVE NO DATE WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE, AS IT WAS ON NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER AND COULD BE SEVERAL WEEKS OR MORE BEFORE THE...
THE VEHICLE JUST DIES AS THOUGH IT RAN OUT OF GAS. THE VEHICLE STAYS RUNNING, DOES NOT LOOSE THE POWER TO RADIO OR LIGHTS ETC, BUT DIES AS IF OUT OF GAS. I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT IDLES VERY ROUGH. PLACE IN PARK, TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND RESTART NO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE NOW DOES IT ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 80 MILES PER HOUR. THERE OBVIOUSLY IS SOME THING WRONG WITH THIS....A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
FIRST TIME I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IT STARTED TO SURGE AT A STOP LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. THEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX. 65 MPH THE CAR STALLED OUT AND HAD TO PULL OVER. TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTED CAR AND DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CHECKED CODES AND SAID THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILED. PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN! *TR
DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY WHEN FORD ESCAPE BUCKED, SLOWED, DID NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS WAS APPLIED. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD WHERE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND DIED. RESTARTED TRUCK, DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES WHEN SAME OCCURRED. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. I ASSUMED I HAD BOUGHT GAS WITH WATER IN IT "BAD GAS". SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE USED A PRODUCT TO REMOVE WATER FROM THE GAS, THIS ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD ON JULY 5TH, I BELIEVE ITS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE IN MY SUV. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM LOUISVILLE HEADED BACK TO CINCINNATI MY DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED OUR VEHICLE STALLING OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. SHE WAS ABLE TO WORK HER WAY OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE EACH TIME. HOWEVER THIS WAS VERY SCARY AS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND SPEED CAUSED TRAFFIC TO ALMOST REAR END HER VEHICLE ON TWO OF THE THREE OCCASIONS. WHEN I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER UPON SAFELY RETURNING HOME THEY MADE IT SOUND LIKE IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY MY SON THAT I NEEDED TO REPORT THIS BECAUSE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. HE DID A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THE INVESTIGATION INTO THIS ISSUE. TWICE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE COMPLETE WITH WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE ENGINE DROPPED AND WOULD NOT COME ABOVE 1000 RPM, AND WOULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD AT NO MORE THAN 15-20 MILES PER HOUR. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/24 AT AN INTERSECTION, UPON THE LIGHT TURNING GREEN. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE REVS UP AND LOSSES POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION AS IF IT WAS OUT OF GEAR. IT ALSO HAS HAPPENED AND STANDING, I NEED TO SHUT OFF THE MOTOR AND RESET IT AS TO SPEAK. THE FORD DEALER HAS SAID THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, BUT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT DOWN THE HIGHWAY FOR FEAR THAT I MAY BE REAR ENDED. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL ONTO A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET AND PULL OVER. I EVENTUALLY CHANCED A DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND MADE IT THERE WITHOUT THE VEHICLE FAILING. I WAS LATER TOLD THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER FOR 1-2 WEEKS. I SAW THAT THE 2005-2012 ESCAPES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY...
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70 MPH. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT NOTICE THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND DEPRESSING ACCELERATED DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE CAR CONTINUED TO IDLE ROUGHLY WITH THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT ON. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. I STARTED THE CAR AND ENGINE RAN SOMEWHAT NORMALLY. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED ON RETURN TRIP A FEW HOURS LATER. TOOK TO FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED AS NEEDED THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD PROBABLY TAKE 4 WEEKS TO GET IT. THIS ISSUE COULD RESULT IN VERY SERIOUS INJURY IF IT OCCURS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. *TR

HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART WITH IT BEING IN PARK BEFORE STARTS TO RUN AND WRENCH LIGHT TURNS OFF. DROVE TO THE DEALER AFTER THAT LAST INCIDENT ON 6/21, CODE 2111 WAS FOUND TO BE PENDING WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF, FOUND IT TO BE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. FOR A CAR THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD AND 40K MILES, IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE THIS DEFECT AS IF IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY YOU ARE STUCK WITH A CHANCE FOR A SEMI-TRUCK TO REAR END YOU. PLEASE ALLOW THIS RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. *TR

AT ONE POINT I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS HAPPENING TO MANY OTHER FORD ESCAPES AS WELL AS FORD FUSIONS. AT THIS POINT THEY TOLD ME THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED FOR 2-3 WEEKS. THEY TOLD ME MOST PEOPLE WERE JUST ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE RANDOM STALLING OUT UNTIL THE PARTS CAME IN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WHEN MY CAR STOPPED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WRENCH ICON ALSO CAME ON AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE CAR. *TR
THE VEHICLE EITHER STALLED OR WENT INTO SAFE OR LIMP HOME MODE WHILE TRAVELING AROUND 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS HAPPENED DURING A BUSY TRAFFIC TIME CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WERE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY UNTIL SOMEONE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK HOME FOR ME. IT WAS A SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. VEHICLE (2010 FORD ESCAPE) TRAVELING AT APPX. 20MPH ON FREEWAY WHEN IT STARTED BUCKING, LOST SOME BUT NOT ALL POWER. PULLED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF FREEWAY, SHUT OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED 30 SECONDS LATER. RESTART WAS DIFFICULT BUT SUCCESSFUL. SUCCESSFULLY DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER CLAIMS THIS IS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. CANNOT REPAIR UNTIL PART ARRIVES IN APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. VERY SIMILAR BEHAVIOR FROM CAR IN TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS LAST WEEK - BOTH HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY UPON START UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. WHILE GETTING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN AND ALMOST STALLED OUT (THIS OCCURRED TWICE). I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, 60 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE WARNING INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN CAME ON. I TURNED THE MOTOR OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE LIGHT WENT OFF, AND I PROCEEDED TO WORK WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. ON THE SAME DAY, ON THE DRIVE FROM HOME FROM WORK, THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED, BUT THIS TIME AT ABOUT 35 MPH IN TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS RIGHT ON MY BUMPER AT THE TIME. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT JUST SUDDENLY LOSES POWER. *TR

WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY ESCAPE WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN START TO SHUTTER. THE RPM WILL GO DOWN TO 1 AND THEN FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 1 AND 2. THE GAS PEDDLE WILL NOT RESPOND. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND SMALL WRENCH LIGHT APPEAR ON THE DASH. I HAVE TO PULL OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. SOMETIMES IT WOULD CRANK BACK UP WITH NO MORE PROBLEMS FOR A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS. BUT OTHER TIMES THE CAR WILL ONLY TRAVEL A FEW YARDS BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH A LIGHT ON. FINALLY IT HAPPENED ONE DAY WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID MY THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. THEY CHARGED ME $406 TO "CLEAN" IT. THE NEXT DAY AFTER PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT...
