TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASED AS THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND, UPON OPENING THE HOOD, NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ALSO, WHEN IT RAINED, WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE ROOF. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, ALL THE DOORS SHOOK AS IF THEY WOULD OPEN. THE DEALER (ECONOMIC AUTO SALES, 2715 MARTIN LUTHER KING JR PKWY, DES MOINES, IA 50314, 515-279-0325) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 'AS IS'. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE....
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NECK AND BACK INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD FRACTURED, THE SEAT BELTS FAILED, AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE BODY DAMAGE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V313000 AND 16V352000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE VIN TOOL CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE SUBFRAME AND ENGINE CRADLE WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP, AND WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $1905.98. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000. UPDATED 08/16/16.*JB
WHILE DRIVING ON MORE THAT ONE OCCASION MY KNEE ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED THE IGNITION KEY AND TURNED THE CAR WHILE MOVING I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT INCIDENTS. I CONTACT CHRYSLER TWICE REGARDING THIS MATTER TO GIVE THE A HEADS UP BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM ABOUT RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 2006. *TR
THE PINK PLASTIC SHIFT INTERLOCK LATCH BROKE. THE PLASTIC BREAKS FROM CONTINUAL FORESEEABLE USE. FAILURE CAUSES THE INABILITY TO MOVE THE SHIFTING MECHANISM OUT OF PARK AND THUS DRIVE THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO YOUTUBE.COM [HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=8UAMY_M7TTK], THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR ON 2006 AND 2007 MODELS. I AM NOT CERTAIN, BUT 2008 AND NEWER MODELS HAVE A PART THAT IS GREEN AND DOES NOT SEEM AS LIKELY TO BREAK. FURTHERMORE, MILEAGE OR AGE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR. MINE BROKE BEFORE 75,000 MILES AND SLIGHTLY AFTER 6 YEARS. DORMAN MAKES AN METAL ALUMINUM REPLACEMENT PART RANGING FROM $22 TO $40 DEPENDING ON THE RETAILER. ONLINE IS LESS EXPENSIVE. THE FACT THAT THERE IS A METAL, DURABLE REPLACEMENT PART IS EVIDENCE THAT THIS IS AN INCREASING PROBLEM. MOREOVER, IT IS BELIEVED THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS FAILED TO RECALL ITS VEHICLES. FURTHERMORE, AFTER CALLING CHRYSLER 800 CUSTOMER SERVICE...
TOOK CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TO HAVE FRONT END SHAKING CHECKED OUT. WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT TIE ROD WAS DEFECTIVE. SINCE I HAD AN EXTENDED CHRYSLER WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND FOUND THAT IT NEEDED REPLACEMENT BUT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A 2006 VEHICLE WITH UNDER 50,000 MILES. NEVER HAD A TIE ROD GO BAD IN ANYTHING ELSE I'VE OWNED--AND IT LOOKS LIKE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. *TR
