Owner Complaints for the 2016 CHRYSLER 200

584 complaints have been filed with NHTSA for the 2016 CHRYSLER 200. Below is a breakdown by vehicle component.

Most Recent Complaints

#11707905 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | | N/A miles
While driving, my 2016 Chrysler 200 (3.6L V6) experienced a sudden and complete electrical failure. All systems shut down simultaneously, including the dashboard, engine, power steering assist, and electrical accessories. The vehicle coasted to a stop and would not restart—no crank, no dash lights, no response. After allowing the vehicle to cool for approximately 30–45 minutes, electrical power returned and the vehicle restarted normally. This failure mode is identical to the Power Distribution Center (PDC) connector defect that resulted in a recall for the 2015 Chrysler 200. My vehicle is the same platform with the same component architecture, yet no recall exists for the 2016 model year. This is a serious safety defect that creates a risk of crash, loss of steering assist, and loss of vehicle control while driving.
#11707530 | ENGINE | | N/A miles
During acceleration, thick white smoke began to come out tail pipe. Car instantly turns off in the middle of the street in rush hour traffic while I had my 4 year old daughter in the car. Police threatened to impound car if not moved immediately. Had to pay a hefty tow fee twice to get the car to the dealership. Somehow oil and coolant had mixed together in the engine. Dealer said I’ll need a completely new engine. I’ll have to pay 1600 to get a diagnosis of the “exact” problem once they tear down the engine. At that point warranty company will come out to see IF they can help. I was quoted a possible 12,000 job. I’ve had this car for 7 months and had done all routine work since. I’m so hurt smh
#11701003 | AIR BAGS | | N/A miles
Service airbag system My car doesn’t start
#11697167 | ENGINE | | 146,000 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking erratically. There was a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle. The contact also noticed the strong fuel odor on the exterior of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the contact was informed that the engine might need to be replaced. The contact stated that an oil change was performed, and coolant was added to the coolant reservoir however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic several times, however the failure persisted. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,000.
#11693076 | AIR BAGS | | N/A miles
My airbag sensor has randomly come on and off for about 2 years, it sense cut off and stayed off up until recently in early 2025 the “service passenger airbag” sensor comes on and stays on which affects the ability to pass a state inspection in Virginia.
