MY 2005 IMPALA SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE ARE WORKING WHEN THEY WANT TO. I SET THE CRUISE CONTROLL AT 70 MPH AND CAR SEEMS TO DO FINE. I DONT USE THE CRUISE CONTROLL AND TRY TO HOLD THE CAR AT 70 MPH AND GOT A TICKET FOR DOING 82 IN A 65. AFTER GETTING THE TICKET ON 12 MARCH THE SPEEDOMETER AFTER EITHER 20 MINUTES OF SITTING OR DRIVING DOES NOT READ RIGHT SAYS BELOW ZERO, THEN I TURN CAR OFF AND ON TO TRY AND RESET THE GUAGES WORK ON AND OFF.
2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING. WILL NOT ALLOW CAR TO START. ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NO WAY TO RESET. FREQUENTLY LEAVES DRIVER STRANDED FOR TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES. *TR
ABOUT 1 1/2 YRS AGO I BOUGHT A 2005 IMPALA, WITHIN 4 MTHS MY SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE & RPM GAUGE ALL STARTED ACTING UP. MY GAS GAUGE GOES WAY PAST THE FULL LINE AND NEVER COMES BACK DOWN, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SAY I AM DOING OVER 200 KM WHEN I MAY BE DOING 50 KM, THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO "FIX" THIS IS BY LETTING THE CAR COOL OFF FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND THEN TURN THE KEY OFF AND ON UNTIL IT DROPS THE SPEEDOMETER BACK DOWN TO ZERO, AND MY RPM GAUGE WILL DROP TO UNDER ZERO WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY DURING COLD WEATHER, BUT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING DURING THE REST OF THE YEAR. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE RCMP AND THEY FEEL THIS IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE COMPANY...
THE SPEEDOMETER IS CONSTANTLY INCONSISTENT. SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT IT READS 40?120? 75? I NEVER KNOW WHAT SPEED IM DOING. I JUST GO WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, AND ONCE AGAIN IT READS SOMETHING LIKE 90MPH. SOMETIMES IT IS EVEN POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN. THIS HAS GOT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE RIGHT?? I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE. HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED? I HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. I'VE CHECKED NHTSA COMPLAINTS AND FIND OVER AND OVER THIS SAME COMPLAINT BUT WAS TOLD BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THIS WAS NOT A RECALL. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FILED THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BY CHEVROLET INSTEAD OF MAKING THE CONSUMER PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. IN LIGHT OF RECENT TOYOTA RECALLS I WOULD THINK CHEVROLET WOULD TAKE SIMILAR ACTION FOR THIS DEFECT IN THEIR AUTOMOBILES. *TR
ON AN ALMOST CONTINUOUS BASIS, MY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS INCAPABLE OF REPORTING ACCURATE SPEED AND GAS LEVEL.. 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES, I HAVE TO GUESS HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN THE TANK, AND HOW FAST I AM GOING. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL QUIT WORKING AND EITHER DROPS TO ZERO OR SHOWS A SLOWER SPEED THAN WHAT YOU ARE TRAVELING. IN JULY, 2009, I NOTICED THAT MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON MY 2005 IMPALA WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD AFFECT MY MILEAGE. IT WAS A COST PROHIBITIVE ISSUE, SO I ELECTED JUST TO KEEP AN EYE ON MY RADIATOR AND COOLANT. IN SEPTEMBER, MY FUEL GAUGE QUIT WORKING, AND SINCE THAT TIME, I'VE HAD TO GAUGE WHEN FUEL WAS LOW BY CLOCKING MY MILEAGE. NOW, AS OF TODAY, MY SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED, AND THIS IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW FAST I'M GOING. I'VE CHECKED SEVERAL SITES ONLINE, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHEVROLET IMPALAS, AND ONE THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH REGARD TO SPEED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 67,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.

SOMETIMES THE GAS INDICATOR WOULD REFLECT AN EMPTY GAS TANK THOUGH IT WAS NEARLY FULL. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD REFLECT 35 MILES WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND OTHER SPEEDS WHEN IN MOTION. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD TACK WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT INDICATING EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES. I TRIED TO GET THIS FIXED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT AND COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED WHEN TAKEN TO THE SHOP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS KNOWN FOR THESE ISSUES. NOW THAT I'VE HAD THE CAR A FEW MORE YEARS THE CRAZY MARKINGS ARE MORE FREQUENT. THE BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BECAUSE I CAN NOT TELL WHEN I HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN WHO DETERMINED THAT GAUGES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 400.00,...

IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED SPORADICALLY, THE REAR PASSENGER TAIL LIGHT WAS POORLY ILLUMINATED, AND THE BATTERY FAILED SPONTANEOUSLY. WHEN THE FAILURES OCCURED, SHE SMELLED A BURNING ODOR AS IF THE WIRES WERE BURNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $600 TO HAVE THE SECURITY SYSTEM RE-WIRED. SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS DOING 87 MPH WHEN CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND IN PARK. TOOK CAR TO DEALER, HAD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED. ALSO HAD THEM CHECK POP IN THE STEERING( MADE NOISE WHEN I BOUGHT IT FROM DEALER WITH LESS THAN 31,000 MILES ON IT. DEALER REPLACED INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER, STEERING SHAFT AND CRUISE CONTROL SENSOR. ( CRUISE CONTROL WOULD JUST SHUT OFF AND WORK PERIODICALLY.) IT WAS REALLY JUST AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE BRAKE SENSOR SWITCH THAT NEEDED ADJUSTMENT. HAD TO TAKE CAR BACK FOR THE ADJUSTMENT TO BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED 4-5 INTERMITTENTLY FOR OVER THREE MONTHS. WHEN THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WERE USED, THE LOW BEAMS FAILED. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE BEFORE THE LIGHTS FAILED. THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE AGAIN WHEN HE TURNED THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,961. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 45,200 MILE ON IT AND FROM DAY ONE I HAVE HAD A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OF SOME SORT EVERY TIME I AM DRIVING ALL MY LIGHTS WILL GO OUT,EVEN ALL MY PANEL LIGHTS INSIDE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-25 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGES MOVED UP AND DOWN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO NEED COOLANT. HE FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE BECAUSE THE THERMOSTAT RISES DUE TO THE VEHICLE OVERHEATING AND THE SPEEDOMETER FAILING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
THIS PAST SUMMER IN JUNE, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ 40-80 MPH WHEN STOPPED/IDLE. PROBLEM SUBSIDED AFTER A FEW WEEKS. MORE RECENTLY, WITHIN THE LAST 2 WEEKS, MY SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2005 IMPALA WOULD GRADUALLY GO DOWN GRADUALLY DURING LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL (100MI+) ON THE I-10. TO ME, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH THE CAR. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA WITH THE V-6 3800 ENGINE HAS DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER HAS CEASED TO WORK PROPERLY. IT EITHER DOES NOT REGISTER ANY SPEED AT ALL OR IT FAILS TO RETURN TO ZERO WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTINGS ON EDMONDS.COM REGARDING THIS DEFECT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY RECALL NOTICES FOR THIS DEFECT FROM GENERAL MOTORS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS DEFECT POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE MOTORISTS LIKE MYSELF ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE ACCURATELY THE SPEED AT WHICH THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED. THIS POSES A VARIETY OF POTENTIAL DANGERS TO THE MOTORISTS OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETERS, OTHER MOTORISTS ON THE ROADWAYS, PEDESTRIANS, AND FIRST RESPONDERS AT TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER READING ON OUR 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS INACCURATE/MALFUNCTIONING. SITTING STILL AT THE STOP LIGHT IT READS 100 MPH AND OTHER TIMES 30 MPH PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY IT READS 70 MPH AND AT OTHER TIMES IT POINTS STRAIGHT DOWN AT THE NEUTRAL INDICATOR WITH NO READING AT ALL. OUR VEHICLE HAS 76200 MILES ON IT AND HE CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHICH IN TURN TOLD US THAT GM WOULD PAY FOR THE PROBLEM ON VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 80000 BECAUSE IT WAS SO COMMON BUT GENERAL MOTORS HEADQUARTERS SAID SINCE THEY WERE FILLING BANKRUPTCY THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR IT AND WE WERE ON OUR OWN. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM FOR 500.00 TO 700.00 DOLLARS WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE. GM WANTS A GOVERNMENT BAILOUT AT THEIR CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE AND THEIR EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION. GAS GAUGE READS EMPTY WHEN CAR WAS JUST FUELED. SPEEDOMETER AT TIMES READS 0 WHEN I'M DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. AT TIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ 65 YET I'M ZOOMING PAST CARS SO WHO KNOWS WHAT SPEED I AM GOING. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA.. FOR PAST TWO WEEKS MY SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN READING INCORRECTLY. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 70 MPH BUT IT FELT MORE LIKE 50. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED OR REMEDIED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
